Summer Booty Hits Tenth Anniversary
By DJ Useo
Well, I did it again. As was the case so many times before, I had decided in advance to take a pass on creating another Summer Booty The Summer Mashup Album. Then, the incredible tracks started coming in unsolicited, & I caved. Lol. As in the past, I now was committed to weeks of extra work, including inviting enough contributors to make sure it' would be a viable release. The friendly mashup forum
AUDIOBOOTS
www.audioboots.com
would be the launching pad that rockets this project to the stars.
Beginning with a plan to somehow reach two "discs" worth of great tracks, I still chose to not decline any "great" mashups. As in most past years, this acceptance policy led to the project swelling to three "discs". All in all, I received only one mashup that didn't have the "vibe of eternal Summer" that was vital to the collections' success. It was a fine one, but without that "feeling", I declined it for inclusion. Gulp. I think Sgt Mash might still be peeved at me. Lol.
Invitations went out to those who were previous contributors, plus those that I thought could manage the requirements, & those who were currently mixing. The resulting combination of bootleggers quickly established the rock solid foundation of the supposed "last" Summer Booty. Early tracks like MP3J's "Get Digital" ( The Beatles vs Daft Punk ) & Solcofn's "History Of The Mack" ( Groove Armada vs Mark Morrison ) really got me into the full motivation required to finish this sucker.
Soon, the vibe hit hard with the invited peeps tracks & I was being blown away by more instant classics like Joan Caramba's "Can't Feel My Dinosaur" ( Was ( Not Was ) vs The Weeknd ), DRA'man's "How Deep Is Your Model" ( Calvin Harris vs Kraftwerk vs Tom Tom Club ), & Skibilibop's "Famous Family Affair" ( Mary G Blige vs Charli XCX ). The wonderful efforts done to grant us all this mashup joy, are very humbling to me. I must express gratitude & praise once more to the bootleggers who gave so freely of their skills.
Ultimately, thirty-one people give us fifty-three marvelous audio blends! Next up, AtoZ, who also gave us four tracks & four videos, provided the cover art that graces the release. Chocomang ( who made six incredible tracks ) then worked up a super hosting page for the project. DJ Petrushka, who had been intimately involved with coordination, also brought her best game with two unbelievable cuts. Still, the offerings arrived from the invited, & we thrilled to the work of Voicedude, Mumdy, DJ Spider, Mr Smuggler, & so very many more.
Lastly, on the day before the actual Summer Solstice release, the album was premiered on KOPIMI RADIO w/ Mazanga Von Badman in a far-reaching success of a live show. I marveled at the main group chat on Facebook that drew over one hundred fellow mashers. Most astonishing was the news that hundreds of thousands of listeners swelled the show into it's best numbers ever. All praise to Mazanga, who made it possible.

Just one last note to thank Rappy, who did the consummate track for this album. "Summer Booty" it is called & it contains fifteen artists on one single! Amazing it is. Rappy also brought on board some pals from Indonesia in the form of San Di, & DJ Zero, who fit in superbly. Thanks to youse mugs & everyone else who gave us enough tracks to last all Summer! Also, the previous nine volumes are all still available

A bunch of new cynics are born
So many in the media have been hyping the brave, articulate teens in Florida. These survivors of a tragedy can speak for themselves; they're active and determined to make a difference; many are turning 18 and can vote! THESE young people will accomplish gun change! They can do what we've failed to do before.
"Florida lawmakers vote down motion to take up assault rifle ban after Florida shooting"--sorry, kids, welcome to the real world. No one defeats the NRA. Not on the state level. Not on the national level. Sigh.

Marc's Guide to Curing Cancer
So far so good on beating cancer for now. I'm doing fine. At the end of the month I'll be 16 months into an 8 month mean lifespan. And yesterday I went on a 7 mile hike and managed to keep up with the hiking group I was with. So, doing something right.
Still waiting for future test results and should see things headed in the right direction. I can say that it's not likely that anything dire happens in the short term so that means that I should have time to make several more attempts at this. So even if it doesn't work the first time there are a lot of variations to try. So if there's bad news it will help me pick the next radiation target.
I have written a "how to" guide for oncologists to perform the treatment that I got. I'm convinced that I'm definitely onto something and whether it works for me or not isn't the definitive test. I know if other people tried this that it would work for some of them, and if they improve it that it will work for a lot of them.
The guide is quite detailed and any doctor reading this can understand the procedure at every level. I also go into detail as to how it works, how I figured it out, and variations and improvements that could be tried to enhance it. I also introduce new ways to look at the problem. There is a lot of room for improvement and I think that doctors reading it will see what I'm talking about and want to build on it. And it's written so that if you're not a doctor you can still follow it. It also has a personal story revealing that I'm the class clown of cancer support group. I give great interviews and I look pretty hot in a lab coat.
So, feel free to read this and see what I'm talking about. But if any of you want to help then pass this around to both doctors and cancer patients. I need some media coverage. I'm looking for as many eyeballs as possible to read these ideas. Even if this isn't the solution, it's definitely on the right track. After all, I did hike 7 miles yesterday. And this hiking group wasn't moving slow. So if this isn't working then, why am I still here?
I also see curing cancer as more of an engineering problem that a medical problem. So if you are good at solving problems and most of what you know about medicine was watching the Dr. House MD TV show, then you're at the level I was at when I started. So anyone can jump in and be part of the solution.

In The Chaos Household
Last Night
Sitting here, watching tv, and all of a sudden there were several loud bangs on the front door - followed by 'open the door, long beach police'.
2 cops demand to come in - said there was a robbery in progress in my house.
they said someone called from this address, claiming to be hiding in a closet, and whispering, that the house was being robbed.
wtf?
anyway, let them in and they wanted to know if there's any one else in the house.
said the kid was taking a nap, and they try to tell me that the kid must have called them, and that he was hiding in the closet.
again, wtf?
they don't want me to call the kid - they'll do it.
they walked through the house, fingering their holsters.
kid wakes up, requests permission to put on pants, and exits his room.
cops ask him if he called and he said no - showed them his phone was in the kitchen charging.
they ask the kid his phone number, then my phone number. finally they ask us about another number that meant nothing.
they ask again if we're the only ones here.
finally they leave, and make some crack about 'my confusion'.
they came in 2 vehicles - one was used to block the driveway, the other kitty-corner across the front walk.
sure hope the poor bastard who called them from a closet is ok, where ever he is.
or were we pranked?
but, really, wtf?
Will March
George And Amal Clooney
George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney plan to march in support of the survivors of last week's mass shooting at a Florida high school.
The couple released a joint statement on Tuesday to announce they will be in attendance at March For Our Lives on March 24 in Washington, D.C. The demonstration was organized by the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to push for an end to gun violence in schools.
"Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School," the couple said in a statement to Variety. "Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country."
"In the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we're donating $500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children's lives depend on it," they added.
Celebrities like Lady Gaga, Zendaya and Justin Bieber have already expressed their support of the march on social media with some communicating directly with the survivors.

Better Than Exercise
Living Past 90
Looking to live into your 90s? A new study suggests the answer to a long life might be found in your wine glass.
The 90+ Study, led by the University of California neurologist Claudia Kawas, says seniors drinking a moderate amount of alcohol each day lowered their risk of premature death more than seniors who exercise daily. The study has monitored over 1,600 people over the age of 90 since 2003; which researchers call the fastest-growing age group in the United States.
According to the findings Dr. Kawas presented at the 2018 American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Texas, having two glasses of wine or beer dropped the chance of premature death by 18 percent. Daily exercise for 15 to 45 minutes was found to only reduce premature death by 11 percent.
"I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity," Dr. Kawas told the AAAS conference, according to Tech Times. The 90+ Study also found that people who were overweight in their 70s lived longer than peers who were considered average or thin. "It's not bad to be skinny when you're young but it's very bad to be skinny when you're old."
Researchers added that two cups of coffee also helped maintain longevity, lowering the risk of death by 10 percent. The biggest key to a long life that Dr. Kawas' group found was having a hobby. Two hours of work a day on a hobby dropped the risk of death by 21 percent.

NRA Convention
Dallas
The National Rifle Association should move its annual convention from Dallas to somewhere else after last week's massacre at a Florida high school that left 17 students dead, a Dallas city official says.
It's not appropriate for the group to meet in Dallas in May because there's so much gun violence in the United States, Dallas City Council Member Dwaine Caraway said
Assault rifles like the one used in the Florida school shooting should be outlawed, he said Monday at a news conference, and "the NRA needs to step up to the plate and they need to show leadership."
Caraway, who is serving as mayor pro tem, meaning he fills in when the mayor is absent, said he's expressing a personal belief about the NRA and has not initiated any action in the city government to stop the convention.
"I am saying to the NRA, reconsider yourselves coming to Dallas," Caraway said. "There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas and we, Dallas, will be the ones that have to bear the cost and the responsibility and to protect the citizens."

Mayan Relics Found
Mexico
Archaeologists who have been exploring the world's largest underwater cave -- recently discovered in Mexico -- presented their findings Monday, including fossils of giant sloths and an elaborate shrine to the Mayan god of commerce.
Researchers discovered last month that two large networks of underwater caves in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, the Sac Actun and Dos Ojos networks, are in fact connected, forming the largest such structure on Earth.
Diving with SCUBA gear, they have been exploring the ancient relics left in the caves over the millenia, in a project sponsored by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
Researchers believe the water level in the caves has fluctuated over time, and that they were a source of water in times of severe drought -- a sometimes perilous one.
Some of the animals and humans who ventured inside never made it out alive. Today, their remains are a treasure trove for scientists, enabling them to piece together bits of the cave's history dating all the way back to the Pleistocene epoch (2.6 million to 11,700 years ago).

Survivors Push Back
Florida
Student survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who are taking the fight for gun control to the state and national level don't appreciate seeing their organizing efforts being labeled as a left-wing conspiracy.
"Their sorrow can very easily be hijacked by left-wing groups who have an agenda," former Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) told CNN's "New Day" on Tuesday, specifically naming billionaire and liberal activist George Soros.
"Do we really think 17-year-olds on their own are going to plan a nationwide rally?" the conservative activist continued.
Incensed students went on the air following Kingston's remarks to defend their activism.
"I think it's very despicable that he would even have the audacity to say that," said student survivor Brandon Abzug. "Especially in the wake of a tragedy we really show who we truly are. Just because we're young we can't make a difference is not right."

Senator Shouts At Students
Idaho
A Republican state senator who shouted at University of Idaho students in the Capitol to lobby for a birth control bill on Monday now faces an ethics complaint after a tweet from an account presenting as the lawmaker's directed students to discuss "killing babies" with a Democratic colleague.
State Sen. Maryanne Jordan filed the complaint against Republican state Sen. Dan Foreman.
Ethics complaints against lawmakers are typically anonymous, so while Jordan confirmed she is filing a complaint, she did not disclose many details what would be included in the complaint.
A dozen students, who had traveled nearly 300 miles (483 kilometers) from the Moscow campus, were in Boise for a scheduled meeting with Foreman to lobby for a bill that would allow women to receive up to a 12-month supply of prescribed birth control and promote better sex education on college campuses.
Foreman has also faced scrutiny over an email response to a constituent's concerns over climate change. Foreman called global warming "nonsense" and said it was a scam used by left-wing fanatics to raise taxes.

Sex Loophole
NYC
The 18-year-old woman was driving with two friends near Coney Island in September when the two plainclothes detectives pulled her over and found marijuana. The officers released the two male passengers, handcuffed the woman and told her she was under arrest, prosecutors say.
Then, investigators say, detectives Eddie Martins and Richard Hall repeatedly sexually assaulted her before releasing her. The woman went to the hospital, where prosecutors say DNA was obtained that matched both men.
But the officers have pleaded not guilty to rape and other charges, and the case has highlighted an apparent loophole in the laws of New York and many other states that may allow police to escape sexual assault charges by claiming sex acts were consensual. While New York law already bars sexual contact between corrections workers and inmates, it doesn't apply explicitly to police.
"I was shocked," Democratic state Sen. Diane Savino said of when she learned of the oversight. "It should be clear across the state for officers from every department, that when someone is in custody they do not have the ability to consent to sexual activity."
The case underscores a chronic problem that was documented in an Associated Press investigation in 2015 that found about 1,000 officers across the country had lost their badges in a six-year period for rape, sodomy and other sexual assault. That total didn't even include New York or California because those states didn't track the number of officers fired for such offenses.
Bowling Green State University criminal justice Professor Philip Stinson has studied sexual misconduct by police around the country and confirmed such loopholes exist in many state laws.

Depraved Academic
UK
A British academic who blackmailed victims into sending him increasingly depraved images which he shared on dark web forums was jailed for 32 years on Monday after admitting 137 offences which included encouraging the rape of a four-year-old boy.
Dr Matthew Falder, 29, a geophysicist employed as a researcher at Birmingham University in central England, duped victims by masquerading as a depressed female artist on forums and mainstream online advertising websites.
He fooled them into sending him naked or partially clothed images of themselves before blackmailing them into sending more humiliating images by threatening to send the original pictures to their family, friends and employers.
Using the names "evilmind" and "666devil", he then distributed the images on "hurt core" websites, hidden forums devoted to discussing rape, murder, sadism, torture, paedophilia, blackmail and degradation.
Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA), said he approached more than 300 people worldwide, with 45 victims represented in the charges against him.

Burned Bears
California
Officials tracking two bears that were badly burned in the largest wildfire in California history say the animals are settling back into their home in the wild after receiving unusual treatment for their injured paws.
Recent photos and GPS tracking data show the female bears appear to be in good health as they move through Los Padres National Forest northwest of Los Angeles, news station KABC-TV reported Friday.
The adult bears were released into the forest last month after getting care for third-degree burns they suffered in December's Thomas fire. A mountain lion cub also was treated for singed paws.
One bear was pregnant, but officials said last week that they weren't sure if the baby was born yet.
Veterinarians treating the animals had stitched fish skins to their burned paws, then wrapped them with bandages of rice paper and corn husks. Officials decided on the treatment after reading about trials on human burn victims in Brazil that placed treated skins from tilapia, a ubiquitous species of fish, on the injuries to soothe pain and promote healing.
