Girl-Kissing Mashups
By DJ Useo
A reliable & talented producer of Mashup Collections is Simon Iddol. In
all likelihood you've read of his past releases here in this very
column. From the 'WHA!?' bootleg compilation series, collecting the
best new mashups to the recent 'SUMMER OF LOVE 2008' compilation
featuring late 60's tracks mashed with current chart fodder, Mr
Iddol gifts us with releases easy to enjoy. Now comes his newest
project 'We All Kissed A Girl - The Ultimate Katy Perry Mashup
Compilation', volume one in the Audio Porn Central series, 'GUILTY
PLEASURES'.
Eighteen mixers contributed 18 tracks, each giving their own spin to
the smash hit "I Kissed A Girl' by the new superstar Kate
Perry. The very popularity of the original track spawned the
initial mashups, with DJ Schmolli & Instamatic's tunes crafted
directly for this project. Since each track employs about half the
same source, it definitely is a 'guilty pleasure', but with talent
such as DJ Paul V, Divide & Kreate and Bobby Martini, the emphasis is
most assuredly on the pleasure. I would be remiss in my duties as a
columnist if I didn't give you a peek at the full artist list.
01 KenCarson - I Kissed A Barbie Girl
02 Xam - I Kissed Mr Vain
03 Ace of Clubs - Katy Got Low and Liked It
04 Lebuzz - I Kissed Your Friends
05 DJ Schmolli - I Kissed A DJ
06 LiamWalds - I Kissed a Stict Machine
07 DJ Paul V. - Jesus Kissed a Girl
08 Instamatic - I Kissed A Monster
09 Matt Hite - I Kissed a Bomb
10 Bobby Martini - I'm Worried I Kissed A Girl Called Ray
11 Divide & Kreate - Party Kisser
12 The Reborn Identity - Tainted Kiss
13 Torero BP - I Kissed A Molecule
14 DJ Gizmo - I Kissed A Girl In This Club
15 Prosac - I kissed Madonna
16 POMATIC - I Kissed A Glamorous Girl
17 neiltomo - I Kissed A Cherry Chopstick Before!
18 Dj Fac - I kiss a girl when things explode
Now that is a formidable lineup! You'll hear Kate Perry's smash hit
aligned with such various artists as Usher, Bloc Party, Flo
Rida, Depeche Mode & The Hoosiers, along with many more. The comp is
of course arranged & released under the direct supervision of Simon Iddol himself, guaranteeing a solid mashup experience. I may not know
of producers like KenCarson & Xam, but their music satisfies like
well-established, familiar names do. Whether you're a Kate Perry
fan, or or mashup appreciater, this set will delight you. I,for one,am
wondering what the next 'Guilty Pleasure' will be.

One of the most important Roman discoveries of the last fifteen years is still little known. Unearthed in northern Greece, it is the monument erected to commemorate the naval battle of Actium in 31 BC, fought between Octavian (the future emperor Augustus) on the one side and Mark Antony, with his lover and financial backer, Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt, on the other. Victory effectively handed to Octavian control of the Roman world, and ended the decade of civil wars that had followed the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Calls On Obama
Committee to Protect Journalists
A journalism watchdog called on President Barack Obama on Tuesday to halt open-ended detentions of journalists by the U.S. military, saying they encouraged similar action by repressive governments.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists also called for fuller investigations of the deaths of journalists killed by U.S. forces.
The group's chairman, Paul Steiger, told a news conference that U.S. support for journalists' right to do their work without being shot at or imprisoned had slipped in recent years under the administration of former resident and unindicted war criminal George W. Bush.
"America has always stood as a beacon for freedom of the press, and I think it would be a great time for a new administration coming in to reaffirm those principles," he said.

Help Feed Needy
U.S. Orchestras
"The Soloist," the upcoming movie about a cellist who became homeless, has struck a chord with American orchestras. They are mobilizing to help feed the hungry.
At least 163 orchestras in 45 states are expected to participate in food drives in late March, a month before the movie's release on April 24, the League of American Orchestras said Tuesday.
"The Soloist" is based on the true story about a schizophrenic Juilliard-trained cellist (portrayed by Jamie Foxx) who becomes homeless and is helped by a Los Angeles Times columnist (Robert Downey Jr.).
The food will be distributed to local assistance organizations associated with the group Feeding America, which says its network provides food to more than 25 million Americans a year.

Many Local TV Stations To Go Ahead
DTV Switch
About 40 percent of the nation's hundreds of TV stations will be broadcasting completely in digital signals next week, even after regulators delayed a mandatory nationwide switch to "DTV" by months.
The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday said 681 of the nearly 1800 television broadcast stations will have already stopped broadcasting in older, analog signals, or will by next week.
The U.S. House of Representatives last week voted to delay the mandatory change by four months -- to June 12 from February 17. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill into law shortly.
The switch is intended to free up spectrum for public safety and provide better television viewing more corporate profits..

Teetering Toward Chapter 11
Charter Communications
Is Paul Allen's foray into cable television coming to an end?
Wall Street increasingly is banking on developments that could see the software billionaire lose his Charter Communications roles as controlling shareholder, which he has held for more than 10 years, and chairman.
With a Sunday deadline looming, the cable operator has remained mum on whether its talks with debtholders are likely to yield a result other than a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Allen and Charter are represented by different legal and financial advisers in these talks.
Pali Research analyst Richard Greenfield expects such a filing. "This will come as a surprise to no one," he said. Moody's credit analyst Russell Solomon said a bankruptcy filing "is looking increasingly likely."

Preparing Bankruptcy Filing
Sirius
Sirius XM Radio Inc has been working with its advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing, the New York Times reported on its website on Tuesday, citing people close to the company.
The move could put pressure on satellite television company EchoStar Corp, which reportedly holds a substantial amount of Sirius XM debt. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that EchoStar chief Charles Ergen made an offer to take control of the satellite radio company late last year, but he was rebuffed.
Sirius officials did not respond to several telephone and email messages, and EchoStar declined comment.

What Global Warming?
Birds Shifting North
When it comes to global warming, the canary in the coal mine isn't a canary at all. It's a purple finch. As the temperature across the U.S. has gotten warmer, the purple finch has been spending its winters more than 400 miles farther north than it used to.
And it's not alone.
An Audubon Society study to be released Tuesday found that more than half of 305 birds species in North America, a hodgepodge that includes robins, gulls, chickadees and owls, are spending the winter about 35 miles farther north than they did 40 years ago.
The purple finch was the biggest northward mover. Its wintering grounds are now more along the latitude of Milwaukee, Wis., instead of Springfield, Mo.

Reveals Wealth
Body Language
A flashy handbag or Armani suit can signal a person's wealth, but so can their body language, according to a new study. People of higher socioeconomic status are more rude when conversing with others.
Psychologists Michael Kraus and Dacher Keltner of the University of California, Berkeley, videotaped pairs of undergraduate students who were strangers to one another, during one-on-one interviews. In total, 100 undergraduate students participated.
The researchers then looked for certain gestures that indicate level of interest in the other person during one-minute slices of each conversation.
They found that students whose parents were from higher socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds engaged in more of what he called "impolite" behaviors, such as grooming, doodling and fidgeting. Lower SES students showed more "I'm interested" gestures, including laughter and raising of the eyebrows

Anniversary Celebration Canceled
`Field of Dreams'
The owners of the Field of Dreams Movie Site near Dyersville in northeast Iowa have called off plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film's release.
Don and Becky Lansing say that with so many people losing their jobs, it makes no sense to spend money on a celebration.
Instead, the Lansings say they will donate $5,000 to a local food bank. They said in a statement the donation is a much better use of the money.

New Vault For Secret Recipte
KFC
Colonel Sanders' handwritten recipe for fried chicken was back in its Kentucky home Tuesday after five months in hiding while KFC upgraded security around its top corporate secret.
Nothing went afoul when the recipe was returned from an undisclosed location to KFC's headquarters late Monday in a lockbox handcuffed to the wrist of a security consultant.
KFC President Roger Eaton was visibly relieved when the door to a new electronic safe was shut with the single sheet of yellowing paper stashed inside. "Mission accomplished," he said.
The recipe lays out a mix of 11 herbs and spices that coat the chain's Original Recipe chicken, including exact amounts for each ingredient. It is written in pencil and signed by Harland Sanders.
