An Album Of Mashups That Tell Stories -
By DJ Useo
The Legend Of Mashups
Howdy, y'all. I've been working up the annual SUMMER BOOTY Summer mashup collection. It's about halfway done with well over a month till deadline. Wow, is it going great. The tracks blow my mind, and a good batch of them arrived even before I sent out invites. Meanwhile, as Super Administrator for the new AUDIOBOOTS mashup forum, I'm part of a small team working to release 80s MASHED 3, which is the third in a series we began at the now closed SoundUnsound Mashup forum. That album was started more recently than the Summer Booty one, but they're close to being tied as far as being finished. On both compilations, we're looking for two discs total.
Meanwhile, to fill in the perceived gap between mashup albums, I arranged a private project called "DJ Useo Presents THE LEGEND OF MASHUPS". It came together very quickly, and very much fulfilled my plan to feature producers who are less known nowadays, but deserve to be heard by virtue of their tunes. The names appear to be more unknown than I expected, as I've already heard from some asking if all the tracks are actually by me. Lol. Honestly, all nineteen contributors are separate distinct people.
The album is awesome, I think. Allow me to briefly describe each track.
playlist
01 - LFO Lets Go ( prolock )
( LFO vs 'unknown' )
This opening slammer beeps and pulses HARD. A floor fill, as we DJ's say.
02 - 7 Nation Rocker ( Idc )
( Alter Ego vs White Stripes )
This features the bassline that never stops, but it's highlighted by immense searing synth stomping.
03 - Everybodys Wants Du Hast ( DJ Useo )
( Tears For Fears vs Rammstein vs Nacim Ladj )
I put the two instrumental tracks together, and then searched for "the right vocal". I think this is it. It's techno metal new wave pop!
04 - Baby, You're A Pure Man ( BRAT Mix )
( The Beatles vs All Saints )
This mix contains truly beautiful music expressed through chill club and Fab Four!
05 - Class A Drugs ( Churchill )
( Babamania vs Prodigy )
Now for the best in clubbers bass with a generous sprinkling of lively hip hop vocals. Zarjaz!
06 - Brick in the Wall pt2 / Come Together (DJ DUBZ )
( Pink Floyd vs Primal Scream )
Brick in the wall becomes comfortably numb when Primal Scream meets Pink Floyd.
07 - Dub Me Baby One More Time ( ultra396 Disco Dub Platter )
( Britney vs Big Youth )
Outer space synth skanking moves an insistent beat as Britney croons irresistibly.
08 - Faint Britney ( Nowmash )
( Linkin Park vs Britney Spears )
Now to show how Britney can rock out she joins with the rapping, and hard rocking of Linkin Park.
09 - Mr Roboto vs DJ Dan ( arcade2600 )
( Styx vs DJ Dan )
Totally techno club beats propel Styx classic rock pop into unassailable appealing ness.
10 - Shake Too Hard ( Agent Lovelette )
( Peaches vs Mark One )
Sample heavy house music pairs with naughty Peaches vocals to superb effect. NSFW!
11 - No More Pressure ( MessyJames )
( David Bowie vs Annie Lennox vs No Doubt )
Pure pop joy as the "gods of music" share a gorgeous bootleg stage. This is actually Messy James first mashup! Not that you can tell !!
12 - Intergalactic Puppets ( Eddache )
( Beastie Boys vs Metallica )
Hold your lighters up for full on metal hip hop ! This type of tune is why speakers were invented. ;)
13 - Song 2 Divided By Zero ( Filthy McNasty )
( Pet Shop Boys vs Blur )
Mind possessing guitar hooks mingle with melodic emotive vocals. You won't forget this one soon.
14 - Sweet Touch, Bad Dreams ( Manriki )
( Bloodhound Gang vs Eurythmics )
The most wonderful genre clash track ever. How does it work so well ? Only Manriki knows.
15 - Voodoo Problems ( TiM G )
( Jay-Z vs Jimi Hendrix )
Guitar God meets vocal genius and magic occurs. This one's a head turner.
16 - Truly Too Close For Tears ( DJ David X )
( Tears For Fears vs Spandau Ballet )
The refined chill of Spandau Ballet heightens the appeal of TFF's Shout, plus more.
17 - Turn on the News ( DJ Nite )
( Kathy Brown vs Praxis )
BBC them gone all cool with haunting vocals. Notice the recurring them between the two.
18 - Can't Get It On ( Xerox Soundsystem )
( Moguai vs Soul Searcher )
This gem quickly insinuates into your cerebral cortex instilling a command that must be obeyed. That command is DANCE !!
19 - The Morning Glory I Love ( FaultSide )
( R.E.M. vs Oasis )
Holy SNECK is this closing track ever the best! Oasis' rocking rips you a new one, while R.E.M. delights you with pure melody.
Together, they display the finest in mashup recordings.
A lessor point still worth mentioning is I personally mastered, and engineered the album so they'd all play in the same sonic landscape. Try them LOUD for best effect! I deliberately avoided those face-ripping trebles that some artists torture you with. All praise to the featured mixers. Also, thanks to the magnificent source artists who inspired the bootleggers to bootleg these bootlegs. ( leg )

BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to
active@bartcop.com.
Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can click on this the yellow donate
button on bartcop.com
But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

Wow - what an improvement!
Sorta like the difference between a nice merlot and grape kool-aid with no sugar.
For the first time, from home, I can actually watch stuff on the you tubes and FaceBook is no longer a nightmare. Sites don't time out. And it took less than 4 minutes to upload the entire page and all the elements, instead of an hour (or two)!
Just, wow!

Released From Jail
Marissa Alexander
A Florida woman who says she fired a warning shot at her abusive husband was released from a Jacksonville jail on Tuesday under a plea deal that capped her sentence to the three years she had already served.
Marissa Alexander, 34, was initially sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2012 but her conviction was later overturned. She faced another trial on charges that could have put her behind bars for 60 years before she agreed to a plea deal in November.
Leaving the courthouse, Alexander cried as she thanked her supporters, sharing plans to continue her education in order to work as a paralegal.
Outside the Duval County courthouse, Alexander's supporters from around the nation unfurled pieces of a red quilt memorializing victims of rape and abuse.
"Self-defense is not a crime. Marissa should not be doing time," a group of about 50 people holding hands chanted upon her release, calling for her to be pardoned.

Music Festivals
When more than half a million people attend a music festival, some drug use is to be expected.
And while police were busy searching the masses for consciousness-raising contraband, scientists in one study took a different tactic, testing the rivers near a popular Taiwan music festival to gauge drug use. The results look like bad news for fish.
The theory is simple: Drugs are prevalent at music festivals, and when concertgoers ingest them, they eventually pee, which ultimately send traces of illicit pharmaceuticals into rivers and streams.
Looking at Taiwan's 2011 Spring Scream-which drew more than 600,000 people-researchers found that levels of party drugs like MDMA-ecstasy-and ketamine spiked in nearby rivers. Scientists also recorded high levels of caffeine, acetaminophen, and pseudoephedrine.
"The most interesting finding was the extraordinary increase (89.1 to 940 nanograms per liter) in the party drug MDMA (ecstasy) during the youth festival," the study authors stated. "This drug was only detected at a very low level before and after the youth festival."

Extrasolar System
Kepler-444
A newly discovered solar system - with five small rocky planets - makes ours look like a baby.
An international team of astronomers announced Tuesday that this extrasolar system is 11.2 billion years old. With the age of the universe pegged at 13.8 billion years, this is the oldest star with close-to-Earth-size planets ever found.
By comparison, our solar system is 4.5 billion years old.
The five planets are smaller than Earth, with the largest about the size of Venus and the smallest just bigger than Mercury. These planets orbit their star in less than 10 days at less than one-tenth the Earth's distance from the sun, which makes them too close for habitation, said the University of Sydney's Daniel Huber, part of the team.
NASA's Kepler planet-hunting spacecraft was used to make the observations over a four-year period. Thus, the bright sunlike star at the heart of this system is named Kepler-444. It's in the Constellation Lyre.

Gold Nuggets Stolen
Wells Fargo Museum
Thieves in a stolen SUV smashed through the glass doors of the Wells Fargo History Museum in downtown San Francisco before dawn Tuesday and made off with up to 10 ounces of historic gold nuggets worth roughly $10,000, police said.
But rare coin dealer Don Kagin says the robbers may have difficulty selling the nuggets unless they melt them down. Word of the heist was spreading through the rare coin community, Kagin said, and dealers will be on the lookout for nuggets and coins with historical significance that suddenly appear on the market.
The three masked thieves held a security guard at gunpoint, took 4 to 10 ounces of gold from an exhibit case and got away in a waiting sedan, police said. The guard wasn't injured.
With the SUV still wedged in the revolving doors Tuesday morning, people walking to work stopped to look at the aftermath of the robbery and snap pictures, while police surveyed the damage. Shattered glass crunched underneath the tires of a tow truck pulling the green 1992 Chevrolet Suburban from the building.

Pleads Not Guilty
Daniele Watts
An attorney for "Django Unchained" actress Daniele Watts and her boyfriend has entered not guilty pleas on their behalf to misdemeanor lewd conduct charges.
Attorney Lou Shapiro entered the pleas at a brief hearing Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Watts and Brian Lucas were charged in October after briefly being detained by Los Angeles police who were investigating a report of lewd conduct in a parked Mercedes the previous month.
After the incident, Watts suggested she was a victim of racial profiling. She has said she and her boyfriend were just kissing in the car.

Russia
Russia sold more than $15 billion worth of arms in 2014, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday, adding that new signed orders stood at nearly $14 billion.
Russia is the world's second-largest arms exporter after the United States. Putin also said Russia exported military equipment to more than 60 countries last year, when its ties with the West hit a rocky bottom over the conflict in Ukraine.
"Russia will expand its presence on such prospective markets and the Asia-Pacific region, Africa, Latin America and the Carribbean," Putin told a meeting at the Kremlin.
"Exports of high-tech military products is important for Russia, especially amid the difficult geopolitical situation. It is important for updating the production of the defense sector...and solving many social issues."

Bars Altar Girls
Rev. Joseph Illo
A Catholic priest who recently took charge of a San Francisco parish has said only boys can be altar servers, a move that is sparking both criticism and praise and comes amid a wider debate over conservative concerns that the Catholic Church has become too "feminized."
As media coverage of the controversy at Star of the Sea parish began to build in recent days, the Rev. Joseph Illo defended his decision in a statement issued Monday (Jan. 26), saying he decided to make the change last November, a few months after he became pastor. He cited two main reasons for the switch:
The first, he said, is that "boys usually end up losing interest (in altar service) because girls generally do a better job."
The second and more important reason, Illo said, is that "altar service is intrinsically tied to the priesthood and serve as feeder programs for the seminary."

Met With 'Devil's Daughter'
Pope Frankie
Pope Francis has met a Spanish transsexual and his fiancée at the Vatican, opening his doors to a man dubbed "the devil's daughter" by a local priest, media reports said Tuesday.
Diego Neria Lejarraga met the pontiff on Saturday after writing to him in December to complain he was being treated as an outcast in his parish in Plasencia in western Spain, according to the Spanish daily Hoy.
The 48-year old, who has undergone sexual reassignment surgery, told Francis in the letter that he was treated poorly by parishioners and one priest had even called him "the devil's daughter."
The Argentine pontiff, known for calling people unannounced, rang Lejarranga on Christmas Eve and set up the meeting, which took place on Saturday but was kept off the official calendar, the report said.
