Summer Booty 2018 The Summer Mashup Album
By DJ Useo
Man, oh man have you hit the jackpot of mashups. Imagine you have 21 of the best bootleggers from around the world at your disposal. Each is going to express their vibe of Eternal Summer in a mashup. That'd be some album's worth, right? Well, multiply that by three, & you'd have "
Summer Booty 2018 The Summer Mashup Album", hosted as always at
AUDIOBOOTS MASHUP FORUM
( audioboots.com/Albums/SB2018/ ) .
The same as last year, I wasn't going to do another Summer Booty collection. Eleven volumes had me quite satis5d (sic), until people started sending me tracks too great to decline.I had twelve incredible tracks recieved, when I gave in & decided to do another volume. A familiar experience for me, actually. DJ Petrushka offered to help me with all the aspects, & with her & AtoZ assisting, we began.
Now that it's done, I got'ta say, I'm so glad to have it. If you've heard any of it yet, you know why I'm so happy. Try this
tremendous preview video from Rappy -
"Axwell ^ Ingrosso VS Nirvana - Smells More Than Teen Spirit (Rappy Mashup)"
( vimeo.com/275308806 ) .
I still find it hard to believe this makes a dozen of these collections. The talent involved has changed much, but the quality seems to have been honed into perfection. Listen for mixes by Voicedude, Roaxx J, DJ Rudec, Mumdy, oki,& many more. All of the contributors are highly skilled, & regular posters in the mashup scene. You could pick any of them, then delve into their discography, & be a fan for life. My hope is that happens to you, maybe even multiple times.
The tracks on this 3 disc collection assuredly present the mixers' concepts of Eternal Summer in the strongest way, despite the many styles employed. Listen for Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, Techno, & more, all worked into a fine blend. During the time spent assembling this collection, time & time again circumstances worked hard to prevent it's release; not least of which was constant emergencies on all sides.
We're mostly all doing much better now, & the album got finished magnificently. There's also streaming versions of the 3 discs, so you can
listen in the easiest
manner possible
( audioboots.com/Albums/SB2018/ )
( hearthis.at/vXMfxz7w/ ) .
Take it from me, you'll be the "coolest" person in the room when you play this record. The previous eleven volumes are all still
linked down the page here

Please to be enjoying!

Paul Krugman: Trump's Plot Against Health Care Continues (NY Times Column)
And while Trump, who lies constantly, often seems to pay little penalty for those lies, this one - which touches the lives of millions of voters - would be thrown into sharp relief if the case were heard by the Supreme Court. He wants to take away your health care, but he doesn't want you to see him doing it until the election is behind him. So that's the real health care issue this year. Will it be expanded coverage under a Democrat - it probably doesn't matter much which one - or will it be tens of millions of newly uninsured Americans under Trump?

Anecdotes
While he was still in high school, Navajo artist R.C. Gorman left several of his paintings at a trading post in Gallup, New Mexico, where he hoped they would be sold and he would make some money. After the summer was over, he returned to the trading post to see if the paintings had sold. The paintings had sold, all right, but when Mr. Gorman asked for his money, the white woman who ran the trading post told Mr. Gorman, "What money?" She then added, "I don't know you." Because Mr. Gorman didn't have a written contract, he didn't receive any money from the white woman.
William Gladstone once saw a portrait of a nobleman that he liked immensely but which he could not afford to buy. A few weeks after seeing the portrait, he was invited to a house to dine, where he saw the portrait hanging on the wall. Noticing Gladstone's interest in the portrait, his host said, "One of my ancestors." Gladstone replied, "If the portrait had cost less, he would have become one of my ancestors."
Science fiction writer Ray Bradbury loved theater and produced several of his own plays. He did not make money doing this. When his wife was still alive, every few years he would say to her, "Is this the year we open the window and throw the money out?" She would ask, "You want to do another play?" After he replied, "Yeah," she would say, "Open the window." Mr. Bradbury said, "When I do a play, I throw the money out and it never comes back. And I don't expect it to."
Igor Stravinsky once met Mrs. Vera Newman at a party, and he started kissing her hand. Suddenly, he dropped her hand and said, "Oh, I forgot - your husband doesn't like my music." By the way, some people felt that Igor Stravinsky charged very high prices for his music. He once explained why: "I do it on behalf of my brother composers, Schubert and Mozart, who died in poverty."
Pθre Tanguy owned a store frequented by artists, some of whom paid for their paints with works of art. After Vincent van Gogh died, Mr. Tanguy sold one of Mr. van Gogh's still lifes for 42 francs. Asked why he had asked for that exact amount for the painting, Mr. Tanguy replied, "I looked up what poor van Gogh owed me when he died. It was 42 francs. Now I have got it back."
George Balanchine wanted a china silk curtain for his ballet Orpheus because it was beautiful and billowing. Unfortunately, it cost $1,000, and the ballet company didn't have it. Therefore, Mr. Balanchine disappeared for two hours, and then he came back with the money in cash. When asked where the money had come from, he replied only that he had not robbed a bank.
John Cage was usually a prolific composer, whether working with Merce Cunningham or on his own; however, Gordon Mumma, a composer for Mr. Cunningham, once noticed that Mr. Cage didn't compose any music in 1964 and asked him why. Mr. Cage explained that he was too busy to compose that year because of writing letters to raise funds for Merce Cunningham dance tours.
Pablo Picasso became very famous and very rich, and in his old age he didn't care about money. When he died, his heirs went through his belongings. They discovered a box of gold coins that he had apparently forgotten, and in drawers and cupboards, they discovered bundles of banknotes.
Oxford University once offered George Frideric Handel, composer of Messiah, an honorary doctorate. He was very pleased - until he found out that Oxford University was going to charge him £100 for the privilege. Handel decided to remain "Mr." instead of becoming "Dr."

'We Regret the Error'
Jeopardy!
The producers of Jeopardy! are setting the record straight about a contentious question that aired during Friday's episode, in which it seemingly deemed that Bethlehem is located in Israel and not Palestine in its answer.
The controversy began when contestant Katie Needle responded to a question under the "Where's That Church?" category. When prompted by a clue about the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, where Christians believe to be the birthplace of Jesus, she answered Palestine - which host Alex Trebek said was incorrect.
Fellow contestant Jack McGuire was rewarded with $200 for buzzing in with the answer of Israel moments later, causing an uproar among Palestinian rights advocacy groups online.
Bethlehem is geographically located in Palestine, but sits on a territory currently occupied by Israel in the West Bank.
"In the process of taping this clue, 'BUILT IN THE 300s A.D., THE CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY' we became aware that the clue was flawed as written and that determining an acceptable response would be problematic," the statement read. "In accordance with our rules and in the interest of fairness, we voided the clue and threw it out. We restored Katie's and Jack's scores to what they were prior to the clue. The outcome of the game was not affected."

Next Big Stunt
Nik Wallenda
Acrobat daredevil Nik Wallenda, best known for his daunting high-wire stunts, announced his next big stunt will be the highest and longest walk to date.
After completing a challenging routine 1,000 feet above New York City's Times Square with his sister Lijana last June, Wallenda has set his sights on his next big target: an active volcano.
"I'm going to become the first person in the world to walk a wire directly over an active volcano," he announced on "Good Morning America" Tuesday. "It has been a dream of mine for a long time."
Wallenda said he searched for volcanoes around the world and decided on Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua.
"This one was one of the very few that has an active lava lake. As we know from the news as of late, more and more are becoming active," Wallenda said.

Family Rift
Australia
The younger son and daughter-in-law of News Corp Executive Chairman and Fox Corporation Co-Chairman Rupert Murdoch (R-Evil Incarnate) took aim at both organizations' coverage of climate change, widely viewed as a contributing factor to the Australian bushfires, in a statement to The Daily Beast on Tuesday.
"Kathryn and James (Murdoch's) views on climate are well established and their frustration with some of the News Corp and Fox coverage of the topic is also well known," a spokesperson for the couple told The Daily Beast, and later confirmed the statement's accuracy to Reuters.
"They are particularly disappointed with the ongoing denial (of the role of climate change) among the news outlets in Australia, given obvious evidence to the contrary."
Critics of News Corp, the largest media company in Australia, say it has participated in the spread of misinformation about the fires and has downplayed the impact of climate change on them.
James Murdoch sits on News Corp's board and is chief executive of private investment company Lupa Systems. His older brother Lachlan is co-chairman of News Corp and chief executive of Fox Corporation.

Miners Block Coal Train
Kentucky
Some Kentucky coal miners and their families stood on train tracks Monday to prevent a train loaded with coal from leaving, saying they had worked since Dec. 16 without being paid.
The tracks lead from Quest Energy in Pike County. A CSX crew went to the tracks to get the engine and left the loaded train cars there, WYMT-TV reported.
Miners told the station they expected to be paid Friday, then were told to wait until Monday, when the date was pushed back again.
Miners at the tracks told the Lexington Herald-Leader about 50 miners are owed for three weeks of work.
Miners last summer in Harlan County held a similar protest when Blackjewel filed bankruptcy. The miners eventually were given a deal to be paid and let the train pass.

FedEx Mounts Push To Head Off
Union
FedEx workers hoping to unionize and get better pay and benefits have met with a well-financed barrage of opposition from the company, according to recordings obtained by the Guardian.
Workers who charge that their benefits are less than at rival UPS said the company has bombarded them with anti-union messages and forced them to attend anti-union meetings.
The Guardian obtained recordings of meetings that were mandatory and required workers to sign in, according to a FedEx employee, held at FedEx facilities in 2015 and 2016, where managers and union avoidance consultants lectured workers on unions as the Teamsters was attempting to organize FedEx drivers at several locations around the United States.
"It's time to campaign. If you don't want this third party coming in putting a wall between us, it's time. Because when you campaign and tell them you don't want them here, eventually it becomes loud and clear to them. You can do that," said a FedEx human resources manager in a July 2016 captive audience meeting.
In the meetings, FedEx human resources managers often cited anecdotes to dismiss union organizing.

Tainted Hay
Wisconsin
Hay tainted by a toxic beetle is blamed for the deaths of 14 horses and illnesses to dozens of others on a Wisconsin ranch.
Steady rain and flooding this past summer left the hay in fields at Red Ridge Riding Stable in Mauston unusable. So, the owners, Cindy Kanarowski-Peterson and her husband, Lyle Peterson, purchased six semi loads of hay and alfalfa from farms in South Dakota and Wyoming to feed their horses.
A blister beetle that releases a toxin when crushed during harvest is blamed for the horses' deaths and for sickening another 100 horses on the ranch. Veterinarian Dave Kolb performed necropsies on some of the horses. Kolb said the toxin irritates the linings of the horses' stomachs and intestines.
University of Wisconsin-Madison Insect Diagnostic Lab director PJ Liesch said blister beetles comprise an entire family of beetles that can be found worldwide, including nearly 30 species in Wisconsin that aren't typically on hay and alfalfa during harvest.
Kanarowski-Peterson is now trying to increase awareness about blister beetles. And she's launched a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover the cost of buying new hay and paying for veterinarian bills. While insurance would cover the loss of harvested hay due to a fire or tornado, the ranch's insurance policy does not cover blister beetles.

Two men have pleaded guilty to theft and receiving stolen property charges after an alleged $8 million worth of rare books, plates and maps were taken from a Pittsburgh library and sold to a rare book store owner, court documents show.
Gregory Priore, a former archivist at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, was originally charged with 10 counts but pleaded down to theft of unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Both counts are felonies in Pennsylvania.
John Schulman, the owner of Caliban Book shop, originally received 20 charges but pleaded guilty to a forgery charge in addition to theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
Among the most notable items to have gone missing was a 1787 first-edition signed copy of Thomas Jefferson's "De la France et des Etats-Unis." The book was one of 14 items that PMAA found for sale at Caliban Book Shop, Schulman's store.
