6 Frikkenfracks Too Many?
By DJ Useo
I don't make as many odd mashups as I did when I was doing the weekly radio show "THE QRADIPS SHOW w/ DJ Useo" , But I've found that y'all really welcome the ones I do post. So, every once in a while I get a wild inspiration and it results in a very likeable, but clearly bizarre mashup. Mainly I keep them for my own enjoyment, or play some of them live, but today I decided to collect a discs worth for your personal pleasure. So here you go with "
Frikkenfrack 6:Useos Strangest Boots".
( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2014/01/frikkenfrack-6useos-strangest-boots.html )
There's a wild one on this collection I was fortunate enough to make with DmR of AtoZ. It really pulled in the listener and download numbers. That sure was a surprise to me. Also the Zappa / 3 Doors Down track beat out many of my popular 'normal' mixes.
Here's a preview link where you can stream or download it.

Next month a massive solar flare will render all music silent, except for mashups, which will be unaffected due to being processed with ableton.

UNICEF Award
Michael Douglas
Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas says his main philanthropic cause - nuclear disarmament - is not exactly the kind of "touchy-feely" issue that celebrities and their fans covet, and it can be awfully frustrating when it comes to progress.
It's one, however, he has stuck with for years as a United Nations Messenger of Peace since 1998, and for that persistence he will be recognized on Tuesday night with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Peace Award from the U.S. fund for UNICEF, the U.N. branch for children.
"I was born in 1944, one year before the first bomb went off, and I hope in my lifetime to see the elimination of the weapons," Douglas told Reuters ahead of UNICEF's Beverly Hills ball, with childhood friend Dena Kaye, the only daughter of the late comic actor and UNICEF's first ambassador, by his side.
That he is being honored with the Danny Kaye award is especially meaningful, he said, because he knew Kaye as a child, admired his impact on children and can still recite rhymes from his films. He said Kaye "did more for the United Nations and for UNICEF than anyone I can think of."

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr Added
Grammy Lineup
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will perform together at the 2014 Grammy Awards, as the show's lineup continues to grow. Along with songs from the two former Beatles, country stars Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and newcomer Kacey Musgraves will also appear, as will Best R&B Album nom John Legend and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Carole King, who was named 2014's MusiCares Person of the Year, will perform with Sara Bareilles.
McCartney is up for a handful of awards this year, including Best Rock Song for "Cut Me Some Slack," his track with Nirvana's Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic, which they premiered at the Hurricane Sandy "12-12-12 Benefit." Starr is set to receive the 2014 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Grammys already have a slew of big name performances lined up, including what's sure to be a funk-tastic collaboration between Daft Punk, Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams. Metallica will also return to the Grammy stage for the first time since 1991 when they perform with the pianist Lang Lang.
The show will also feature performances from Katy Perry, Lorde, Robin Thicke, Chicago, Pink and fun. frontman Nate Ruess, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons, and Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton.
The 56th Annual Grammy Awards air live from Los Angeles January 26th on CBS.

Ending After Season 6
'Justified'
FX's "Justified" will end after its sixth season, network chief John Landgraf announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
Landgraf said the decision was made by showrunner Graham Yost and lead actor Timothy Olyphant, and that he would have loved for the show to continue.
Season five of the cop show premiered on Jan. 7. The series, based on a short story by Elmore Leonard, follows a lawman in rural Kentucky bending rules as he takes on colorful adversaries. Leonard later wrote the novel "Raylan" about the show's title character.
"Justified" has been one of FX's most acclaimed shows, earning acting nominations for Olyphant. Margo Martindale won an Emmy in 2011 for her portrayal of criminal matriarch Mags Bennett.

Given Honorary Ballon d'Or
Pele
Brazilian great Pele was finally awarded a Ballon d'Or in Zurich on Monday, despite retiring in 1977, co-organisers France Football announced.
When France Football created the Ballon d'Or in 1956 it was for the best player playing in Europe and Pele never played club football in the 'old continent'.
By the time FIFA inaugurated the world footballer of the year award in 1991, Pele had long since retired.
But Monday he was given an honorary Ballon d'Or to rectify a historic wrong.
"For regulation reasons the king is not on the list of Ballon d'Or winners, an anomaly that was corrected in 2013," said France Football on their website.

Money Talks
Net Neutrality
A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday rejected federal rules that required Internet providers to treat all web traffic equally, a decision that could allow mobile carriers and other broadband providers to charge content providers for faster access to websites and services.
The Federal Communications Commission's open Internet rules, also known as net neutrality, required Internet service providers to give consumers equal access to all lawful content without restrictions or tiered charges.
But the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit struck down the rules, which were passed in late 2010 and have been challenged by Verizon Communications Inc.
Two judges, with partial support from a third, said the commission has the authority to regulate broadband access but had failed to show that it has a mandate to impose the anti-discrimination rules on broadband providers.

Sony Settles Lawsuit
'Blurred Lines'
Publishing giant Sony/ATV and Marvin Gaye's estate have reached a settlement in the ongoing lawsuit over Robin Thicke's 2013 smash "Blurred Lines," according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the terms of the settlement were not made public, as the case moves forward Sony/ATV will not have to defend giving copyrights to "Blurred Lines" and Gaye's "Got To Give It Up." The case will now specifically involve Gaye's estate and Thicke and his publishing company EMI April, which is owned by Sony/ATV.
Thicke, as well as the songs co-writers Pharrell Williams and T.I., took pre-emptive action back in August, seeking declaratory relief that their song was "starkly different" from "Got to Give It Up." Gaye's estate then counter-sued, accusing EMI of not protecting the R&B legend's music and actively trying to stop the family from hindering "Blurred Lines"' success (the publishing company's chairman allegedly blasted the family for "ruining an incredible song" and "killing the goose that laid the golden egg").
Along with scoring monetary compensation from "Blurred Lines," Gaye's family also sought to split with EMI, a move Sony/ATV reportedly called "ill-advised." Though the settlement means Sony/ATV will not have to defend their impartiality, it's possible that if the case makes it to trial, Thicke's camp will want the publisher to testify in court as to why it decided the two songs were dissimilar. Still, the new agreement spares Sony/ATV the uncomfortable position of defending their 30-percent stake in the music publishing market and the inherent conflicts - such as this one - that come with it.
Despite the legal battles, "Blurred Lines" helped Thicke notch three Gammy nominations, including Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album for Blurred Lines. Thicke is also set to perform at this year's awards show - taking place January 26th - alongside jazz-rock vets Chicago.

Big Tax Cheat Gets Probation
H. Ty Warner
The billionaire businessman behind Beanie Babies learned Tuesday that he won't go to prison for hiding at least $25 million from U.S. tax authorities, and the judge who gave him two years' probation instead went to great lengths to praise his charitable giving.
H. Ty Warner, one of the highest profile figures snared in a federal investigation of Americans using Swiss bank accounts to avoid U.S. taxes, issued a brief apology before he was sentenced in Chicago federal court. The toy-maker, who pleaded guilty to a single count of tax evasion, said he felt "shame and embarrassment" for what he had done.
Warren, 69, could have been sentenced to up to five years in prison, and a prosecutor Michelle Petersen asked U.S. District Judge Charles Kocoras to give Warren at least a year behind bars.
Peterson detailed how Warren meticulously hid his income - more than $100 million at one point - by filing false tax returns for at least 11 years, and pointed out that another area businessman caught in the same dragnet, Peter Troost, got a year in prison from another judge in that courthouse for hiding far less - $3 million.

Detectives Search Home
Biebs
Detectives searched Justin Bieber's home looking for surveillance footage that might serve as evidence the pop star was involved in an egg-tossing vandalism case that caused thousands of dollars in damage to a neighbour's home, an official said Tuesday.
Roughly a dozen investigators searched Bieber's home and arrested one member of the singer's entourage on suspicion of cocaine possession, Lt. David Thompson said.
The man was later identified as Lil Za, a rapper whose real name is Xavier Smith. Jail records show Smith, 20, was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. Thompson said the cocaine linked to Smith was in plain sight when detectives searched Bieber's house.
Bieber, 19, was at the home and co-operated with authorities but was not interviewed by detectives. Thompson said he expected the singer to speak with detectives when his attorney could be present.
He said the house Bieber allegedly egged had custom wood and other expensive features and that several thousands of dollars in damage occurred. Thompson added that a judge authorized the search warrant.

Diet Soda Mixers Up Readings
Breathalyzers
Diet soda may help or hinder attempts to lose weight. But it definitely can get you drunker. Because a drink made from alcohol and a diet mixer boosts breathalyzer readings higher than the same drink with a sugary mixer. The finding is in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research. [Cecile A. Marczinski and Amy L. Stamates, Artificial sweeteners versus regular mixers increase breath alcohol concentrations in male and female social drinkers
For the study, 16 casual drinkers knocked back one of three drinks: vodka mixed with sugary soda, vodka mixed with sugar-free soda, or a placebo. Over three different sessions, each participant got each drink. After the drink, the subjects were given breathalyzer tests and reaction time measurements. Participants also did a self-assessment where they estimated their own drunkenness, tiredness and willingness to drive.
When both men and women drank vodka with the diet mixer, their breath alcohol levels were on average 18 percent higher than when they consumed the alcohol with full-calorie soda. And their reaction times were slower.
Although a diet mixer impaired the subjects more, they rated themselves as not being any drunker. So if you're watching your weight, watch out for what you drink.

Penis Pumps
Penis pumps cost the U.S. government's Medicare program $172 million between 2006 and 2011, about twice as much as the consumer would have paid at the retail level, according to a government watchdog's report released on Monday.
The report by the inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services said Medicare, the government health insurance system for seniors, paid nearly 474,000 claims for vacuum erection systems, or VES, totaling about $172.4 million from 2006 to 2011. Yearly claims for the devices nearly doubled from $20.6 million in 2006 to $38.6 million in 2011.
According to the Mayo Clinic, penis pumps are one of a few treatment options for erectile dysfunction.
"Medicare payment amounts for VES remain grossly excessive compared with the amounts that non-Medicare payers pay," said the report, dated December 2013. "Medicare currently pays suppliers more than twice as much for VES as the Department of Veterans Affairs and consumers over the Internet pay for these types of devices."
