Kleptones Culture Bully Fac & Colatron In The New Year
By DJ Useo & The Useoettes
Sure am glad every day when I get to complete my daily living tasks & get to check my emails, & such. What it means for me is new mixes & mashups sent to me by me signing up for mailing lists (like
www.audioporncentral.com ) subscribing to podcasts feeds (
www.mashuptown.com ) and my fave method - by reading my pals emails telling me what they just posted.
It's a hoot & a hollar when you open your mail & The New
KLEPTONES album is out! You can understand my high interest after savoring the previous KLEPTONES releases like 'Live'r Than You'll Ever Be', & 'A Night At The Hip-Hopera'. I'd gotten a few preview listens to tracks from AudioPornCentral posts, & sure enough the album fulfills the high promise exhibited in the preview tracks. In their own words "It's too late, it's too soon" so the Kleptones now present a comedy of duality - "Uptime / Downtime". You will mostly likely NOT hear another bootleg recording that sounds this natural in production. From the beginning to the end of both discs this gem unfolds in one continous musical ear feed. It's got the most wonderful late sixties feel combined with a modern bootleg approach to arrangements. You'll hear Sheryl Crow in a beautiful new dream mix. Siouxsie & The Banshees doing hot ambient. Even the Beastie Boys with the best techno rocking. All these tracks and more, each so finely mixed you'll think the artists were all there in the studio. I think the bootleg album of the year is already out here in the first week of the new year. Check out the listening links or go for the album

Meanwhile an album I was anxiously awaiting arrived Monday night in the form of 'Culture Bully Presents 2009 Mashed'. After last years' 2008 version I expected one hell of an album, but this years exceeds it somehow. You won't believe your lucky, lucky, lucky ears when you hear tracks from the likes of DJ Lobsterdust, ToTom, The Hood Internet, the list continues & you get a track from me too. All pieces in this comp utilize 2009 material so you get a super memory of the now-past year. Chris Deline & the fine folk at http://www.culturebully.com/ always come through with a strong record. How they do it when they're already churning out splendid reads on the best new label artists. This record has mixes like Fever Ray vs the Beatles, Kiss vs the Gossip, Chris Cornell vs Jennifer Paige all done by talents like G3rst, DJ Schmolli & Phil Retrospector. You can imagine my thrill at being on there with them.
Big ups ta Culture Bully.

Colatron's 'Tenebrism' is best-described in his own words - "The sequel to this year's Welcome to My World, this journey will take you through dubstep, ambient, downtempo, IDM, computer games, horror soundtracks, requiems and Catholic Mass, my beloved Louise, sci-fi movie trailers, the sounds of the planets, astrophysicists, Shakespeare, and somehow.....Miles Davis. Only the brave need apply. Extremes of light and dark." I advise listening to this in this year 2010. Man will live you better.

Kevin Bacon
Hollywood's awards season is just beginning, and Kevin Bacon has already won.
The 51-year-old actor, nominated for Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards for his starring turn in the TV movie "Taking Chance," will receive the Joel Siegel Award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. The award recognizes an entertainer's charitable efforts.
Meryl Streep will present the honor to Bacon at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Jan. 15.
Bacon is being honored for his Web site SixDegrees.org, which invites visitors to contribute to their favorite causes with a few clicks of the mouse. Bacon said he was inspired by longtime philanthropist Paul Newman, who "took this simple idea and was able to translate it into millions and millions of dollars of good work."

No Comeback
Siegfried and Roy
Illusionists Siegfried and Roy have retired for good, but miss their fans.
Siegfried Fischbacher is quoted in today's edition of German magazine Neues Blatt as saying that "Roy and I miss our audience. But there will not be a comeback."
Siegfried said that his partner Roy Horn, who was mauled by a white tiger during a 2003 performance at The Mirage in Las Vegas, is still battling the long-term effects of the attack.
The two performers, who are originally from Germany and live in Las Vegas, are getting used to their new life as retirees.
"We like it," Siegfried said.

Green Day Goes To Broadway
'American Idiot'
Get ready for Green Day's "American Idiot" to punk rock on Broadway.
Producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman said Tuesday a stage adaptation of the group's Grammy-winning album will open April 20 at the St. James Theatre. Preview performances begin March 24.
A tale of disaffected suburban youth, the musical features lyrics by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and a book by Armstrong and Michael Mayer, who also directed the show. Casting was not announced.
Mayer, Hulce and Pittelman were all involved in Broadway's last big rock musical, the Tony-winning "Spring Awakening."

'Ballot Box' To Be Sold
Skull and Bones
A human skull that apparently was turned into a ballot box for Yale's mysterious Skull and Bones society is going on the auction block.
Christie's estimates the skull will sell for $10,000 to $20,000 when it is auctioned on Jan. 22. Fittingly, the auction house has agreed to keep the seller's name a secret. On Monday, it described the person only as a European art collector.
The skull is fitted with a hinged flap and is believed to have been used during voting at the famous society's meetings. The auction house said it also may have been displayed at the society's tomblike headquarters on Yale's campus in New Haven, Conn., during the late 1800s.
Skull and Bones, an elite society founded in 1832, has closely guarded its members' names and its activities since the early 1970s. Prior to that time, the group published an annual roster.

Roma People Give Gold Plaque
Madonna
The self-proclaimed king of the Roma said Tuesday he wants to give Madonna a gold plaque to thank the singer for criticising discrimination against his people.
Madonna performed in Bucharest in August as part of her "Sticky and Sweet" tour, and at the concert said she was "very sad" because of the "discrimination against Romas and Gypsies in general in eastern Europe".
Self-declared king Florin Cioaba said the Roma wanted to show their appreciation for the US star's gesture.
The plaque has been ordered from a jeweller in Italy and will be made from 24-carat gold, the Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

Shuts Down Bakersfield Airport
Honey
Authorities say the suspicious material inside luggage that prompted the shutdown of a California airport turns out to be five soft drink bottles filled with honey.
Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood says the bottles, found inside a checked bag at Bakersfield's Meadows Field, had tested positive for traces of an explosive.
Youngblood says investigators are trying to determine whether there was something in the honey or on the bag that caused security alarms to go off shortly before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
They have been questioning the bag's owner, 31-year-old Francisco Ramirez, a gardener from Milwaukee who says he flew to Bakersfield to spend Christmas with his sister.

Record Low
Job Satisfaction
Even Americans who are lucky enough to have work in this economy are becoming more unhappy with their jobs, according to a new survey that found only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their work.
That was the lowest level ever recorded by the Conference Board research group in more than 22 years of studying the issue. In 2008, 49 percent of those surveyed reported satisfaction with their jobs.
The drop in workers' happiness can be partly blamed on the worst recession since the 1930s, which made it difficult for some people to find challenging and suitable jobs. But worker dissatisfaction has been on the rise for more than two decades.
"It says something troubling about work in America. It is not about the business cycle or one grumpy generation," says Linda Barrington, managing director of human capital at the Conference Board, who helped write the report, which was released Tuesday.

Probation Violation
Redmond O'Neal
Officials say Redmond O'Neal is back in jail after a drug-related probation violation.
The son of actors Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom during a brief hearing Tuesday after being taken into custody Dec. 29.
Los Angeles County district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison says Redmond O'Neal gave the judge a handwritten letter and was ordered back to in-custody treatment until he returns to court on Feb. 2.

Charge Dismissed
Gerard Butler
A judge has dropped a misdemeanor battery charge against Gerard Butler.
Superior Court spokeswoman Mary Hearn says the charge was dismissed at a hearing Tuesday after the actor completed community service.
Butler could have faced up to six months in jail if convicted. His attorney, Blair Berk, declined to comment.
City prosecutors say the Scottish-born star of "300" had a run-in with a photographer on Oct. 7 after leaving a premiere party for the film "RocknRolla."

Most Face Time
Mrs. Greenspan
Andrea Mitchell logged more TV face time than any other network evening news reporter during the past decade.
News consultant Andrew Tyndall, who logs each evening newscast, calculated that Mitchell was on NBC's "Nightly News" for 2,416 minutes from 2000 to 2009. The veteran diplomatic correspondent beat her NBC medical correspondent colleague, Robert Bazell (bah-ZEHL'), who had 2,328 minutes.
Tyndall says NBC had five of the six most heavily used reporters. The exception was CBS Pentagon reporter David Martin.
By far, the story the evening news broadcasts spent the most time on during the past decade was the Iraq War. But the war didn't even make the top 20 of minutes logged during 2009.

Holy Crosses?
Potatoes
Move over, Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese. Step aside, Fish Stick Jesus. Online bidders, meet the Holy Cross Potato. Both of them. Yes, the 2009 holiday season bestowed (at least) two miraculous spuds with crosses at their centers. Aside from the sizes of the spuds, the main difference is price.
The potato discovered first, by Dennis Bort of Brunswick, Ohio, on Christmas Day, was listed Tuesday on eBay with an asking bid of $1,000. The second, found by a couple in Marion, Iowa, on New Year's Eve, was on sale with bids starting at $2.
The listings don't say much about the conditions of the potatoes, though both definitely have been halved.
The two potatoes also were competing for bidders on eBay for the "Potato Chip with Holy Cross or 4 Leaf Clover," a chip with a hole in the center that appears to have four points, which had a listing price of $13.99.

Japan Fish Auction
Giant Tuna
A giant bluefin tuna fetched 16.3 million yen ($177,000) in an auction Tuesday at the world's largest wholesale fish market in Japan.
The 513-pound (233-kilogram) fish was the priciest since 2001 when a 440-pound (200 kilogram) tuna sold for a record 20.2 million yen ($220,000) at Tokyo's Tsukiji market.
The gargantuan tuna was bought and shared by the owners of two Japanese sushi restaurants and one Hong Kong-based sushi establishment, said a market representative on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information.

David Gerber
Award-winning television producer David Gerber, who worked on a range of programs from series like 1970s hit "Police Woman" to 2006 TV movie "Flight 93," has died at age 86, his spokesman said on Tuesday.
Gerber succumbed to heart failure at the University of Southern California Medical Center on January 2 with his wife of 39 years, actress Laraine Stephens, by his side.
Throughout a long career, Gerber earned Emmy, Golden Globe and Peabody awards for TV shows and movies. His Emmy-winning "Police Story" became a groundbreaking crime series and "Police Woman," which starred Angie Dickinson, was among the first successful cop shows with an actress as the lead character.
His hits included the series "That's My Mama," which was among the first prime-time TV programs with an all-black cast, and he produced the TV version of racial drama "In the Heat of the Night." His final TV movie was "Flight 93," which looked at the United Airlines flight that was hijacked and crashed into a Pennsylvania field on September 11.
Born July 25, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, Gerber earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of the Pacific and joined the military in World War Two. He became a prisoner of war when his plane was shot down over Germany.
Following the war, Gerber worked in advertising and later as an executive in the TV business where he ushered hits such as "Room 222" and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" onto the air in the late 1960s.
In 1972, he formed his own production company and after a string of hits including "Born Free" and "Medical Story," he joined MGM Television in 1981, where he rose to chairman and chief executive of the company's worldwide television group.
Gerber served in numerous industry and community groups, and developed a vineyard in northern California which produces wines named after his wife, Laraine, who is his sole survivor.

An autopsy is planned for Casey Johnson, the heiress to the Johnson & Johnson empire and daughter of the owner of the New York Jets who was found dead in her Los Angeles home.
Los Angeles County coroner spokesman Craig Harvey says the examination will be held Tuesday for the 30-year-old Johnson.
Harvey says he cannot provide other details and didn't immediately confirm police statements that there were no signs of foul play.
Paramedics pronounced Johnson dead Monday. She was the daughter of Woody Johnson and the girlfriend of reality TV star Tila Tequila.
