Well, then, Poll-Fans... Let's do our own '2010 Year in Review' thing, eh?
Be-damn'd to all those other corporate media lists, I'm sayin'... I'm thinkin' we can do it better, Dagnabbit! (Or, at least have us some more fun at it and all...)
Everything and everybody is fair game... People, events, TV shows, Movies, Books, Music, Weather, inanimate objects... you get the idea, right?
Anne Rice's Christmas Confession (Wall Street Journal)
Earlier this week, comic, actor and filmmaker Ricky Gervais offered up his argument for atheism. In a follow-up essay, bestselling author Anne Rice presents her thoughts on what Christmas means for believers.
Susan Estrich: Obama the Genius (Creators Syndicate)
Was it only a month ago that the chattering class was writing off the president as being almost as thoroughly defeated as the lame duck Congress, as the failed leader who had lost his way, popularity plummeting, accomplishments vulnerable?
Alexander Cockburn: Making the Rich Happy (Creators Syndicate)
You give $4 trillion to the rich, and they express their thanks in measured terms. Their hired opinion-formers laud the spirit of admirable compromise enabling responsible members of Congress to come together in bipartisanship to keep the hog wallow open for business.
David Sirota: Faces Of Economic Death (Creators Syndicate)
... the growing imbalance between real wealth creation and worthless paper pushing is bad news - and that's why the gecko and Flo are so deeply disturbing. More than just the moment's most annoying shills, they are the cheeky visages of our nation's long-term economic decline.
Henry Rollins: Scraps (Vanity Fair)
While the real players manipulate and maul our future, we gather below their table and fight over the crumbs that they absentmindedly brush away.
Henry Rollins: LA WEEKLY COLUMN #18
I like this time of year in Los Angeles. Things slow down a little, the standing ambient roar of the city dulls by a few decibels and as we get closer to the end of the month, the population will noticeably decrease as many people migrate to other locations for whatever reason compels them.
Try a Little Tenderness (Wall Street Journal)

Joe S's cucumber and onion salad one of my favorites.
And, Joe S answered:
Oh heck, that's easy. Peanuts. Wait a minute, I'll go check it out on the Interwebs. Be right back.
HOLD THE PHONE! It's not peanuts.
Alfalfa is the most cultivated legume in the world. Worldwide production was around 436 million tons in 2006. The Canada is the largest alfalfa producer in the world, but considerable production is found in Argentina (primarily grazed), Australia, South Africa, and the Middle East.
Within the United States the leading alfalfa growing states are California, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The upper Midwestern states account for about 50% of US production, the Northeastern states 10%, the Western states 40%, and the Southeastern states almost none. Alfalfa has a wide range of adaptation, and can be grown from very cold northern plains to high mountain valleys, from rich temperate agricultural regions to Mediterranean climates and searing hot deserts.
Piggy Bank Awards: Big porkers include ATM fees, credit cards
Banks are hogging capital, lenders are squealing about being forced to play fair, mortgage firms are wallowing in fraud and credit card companies are STILL inventing new ways to steal your bacon.
Yup, sounds like it's time for the annual Piggy Bank Awards-or "Piggies" - the honors I annually hand out for dishonorable behavior by banksters and other scum. It's been a year of financial "services" firms going hog-wild with excuses and rip-offs, so let's pig out on this year's winners...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday said it has mailed out nomination ballots to the 5,755 of its members who will be voting for The Academy Awards for 2010, or Oscars, the world's top film honors.
Each year a few hundred movies hope to qualify for Oscars, but only 10 will be nominated for best feature film. Their producers and distributors begin jockeying for position as far back as the summer, but it is only when the academy officially mails out ballots that the real race gets started.
The 2010 Oscars will be given out on February 27 in Los Angeles. Nominees for the awards will be named on January 25.

While controversy swirls around Fox's new game show "The Million Dollar Money Drop" after two contestants lost $800,000 despite answering a question correctly, the show's host says many people are missing the point: the duo legitimately lost the game on the next question anyway.
"They never had a chance to win that money. Ever. No matter what," Kevin Pollak told The Hollywood Reporter. "They got the last question wrong. None of the clips show the last question."
Instead, what the viral YouTube clips show is Gabe Okoye and girlfriend Brittany Mayti in deep despair after losing $800,000 on a Post-it note answer deemed correct days after their elimination from the show. Pollak pointed out that even if the couple had been awarded the cash for that question, they still would have met the same demise on the show.
Pollak said he was pleased, regardless, that the couple has been invited to participate on the show again, but not pleased that they were said to be hesitant to return due to the pressure of the show.

The man who sold his Southern California home to "Octomom" Nadya Suleman said Sunday that he's going ahead with eviction proceedings because she hasn't made a long overdue $450,000 payment.
Amer Haddadin said he'll evict Suleman if she and her lawyer Jeff Czech don't pay the balance on the house by Friday. A balloon payment was due Oct. 9.
"I think they have money, but they are hiding the money," Haddadin said.
Suleman and Czech were served notice on Dec. 2 by mail and by hand, Haddadin said. He expects the eviction to be speedy.

The East Coast blizzard hasn't left Broadway stuck.
Paul Libin, chairman of The Broadway League, says the Great White Way is open for business as usual, with shows going on as scheduled Monday. He adds that cancellations may mean hard-to-get seats may be available.
Theatergoers are being advised to contact their point of purchase for information about refunds or exchanges.
Broadway theaters may be open, but getting to them may be another story, with area airports shut down, subways delayed and huge snowdrifts across New York City making streets and roads difficult to navigate.
