Laurence Harvey (1 October 1928 - 25 November 1973) was a Lithuanian-born actor who achieved fame in British and American films, being best known for his lead performance in Room at the Top (1959).
Harvey maintained throughout his life that his birth name was Laruschka Mischa Skikne, but it was actually Zvi Mosheh Skikne. He was the youngest of three boys born to Ella (née Zotnickaita) and Ber Skikne, a Lithuanian Jewish family in the town of Joniškis, Lithuania. When he was five years old, his family emigrated to South Africa, where he was known as Harry Skikne.

Bob Costas' "Sunday Night Football" halftime commentary supporting gun control sparked a Fox News Entertainment Channel debate Monday on whether NBC should fire him and a Twitter storm involving Ted Nugent, Rosie O'Donnell, Herman Cain and many more.
The NBC sportscaster, who frequently delivers commentary at halftime of the weekly NFL showcase, addressed the weekend's murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.
He paraphrased and quoted extensively from a piece by Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock.
After praising the column, Costas said: "In the coming days, Jovan Belcher's actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows? But here, wrote Jason Whitlock, is what I believe. If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."
Quickly, Costas' comments renewed one of society's most contentious debates, made more intense by people who believe that a football halftime show was not the right place for Costas to be speaking on the issue.

The 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert will be broadcast across 34 U.S. and international television, radio and Internet across six continents.
Producers said in a Monday news release the concert will be available to 1 billion people across six continents.
Eric Clapton and Coldplay have been added to an already stellar lineup on Dec. 12 at Madison Square Garden that also includes Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen &The E Street Band, Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Roger Waters and others.
Proceeds from the benefit go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which is helping victims of Sandy in hard-hit New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The November storm killed dozens and did billions of dollars in damage across the area.
Shock jock Howard Stern will return as a judge for his second season on NBC's summer talent show "America's Got Talent," the broadcaster said on Monday, although the high-priced radio host appears to have done little to improve the show's ratings.
NBC hoped Stern, 58, known for this sexually explicit radio interviews, would attract bigger audiences, but the finale in September was watched by a record low of under 11 million viewers, according to ratings data.
The show, which also features celebrity judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, remained the top-rated summer series among adults aged 18-49, the demographic most coveted by advertisers.
The network is still searching for a replacement for Osbourne, who has quit in a dispute with NBC over their decision to drop her son Jack from another reality show.
Paul McCartney will fulfill a lifelong wish on Tuesday when he appears in the final print edition of Britain's longest-running children's comic The Dandy, a favorite of the ex-Beatle when he was growing up in Liverpool.
The comic that brought beloved characters including pie-eating cowboy Desperate Dan and Korky the Cat to millions of homes is going digital-only from Tuesday, 75 years after it was first published.
The weekly publication sold more than two million copies in its 1950s heyday, but with children lured by alternative entertainment from television and video games, circulation fell to less than 8,000.
McCartney said in an interview with music magazine NME in 1963 he was asked what his personal ambition was, and he replied that he wanted to have his picture in The Dandy.
He will be seen grimacing as Desperate Dan squeezes his fingers in a firm handshake, after which McCartney leads 50 of the comic's most famous characters in a sing-a-long of the Beatles hit "Hey Jude".

Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones are reuniting onstage to play sparring lovers Beatrice and Benedick in Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," London's Old Vic Theatre announced Monday.
The actors, who starred together in "Driving Miss Daisy" in the West End and on Broadway, will be directed by Mark Rylance in a production of the comedy slated to open in September.
Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey - the Oscar-winning actor - said the casting of "two of the greatest legends ever to grace the stage" would show Shakespeare's comedy in a new light.
"Much Ado" is part of a 2013 season that includes a production of Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth" starring "Sex and the City" actress Kim Cattrall as a fading Hollywood star.
The lineup also includes a revival of Terence Rattigan's drama "The Winslow Boy" directed by Lindsay Posner and a British tour of the Old Vic's acclaimed production of Michael Frayn's farce "Noises Off."
The Walt Disney Company has lost its bid for a new trial in its legal saga with the creators of the game show "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?" who won a $319 million award against the company in 2010.
In a ruling filed on Monday, a trio of U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals judges shot down ABC, Buena Vista Television and Valleycrest Productions, after those companies (referred to as "the Disney affiliates" in the ruling) sought to appeal an earlier order denying their motion for judgment as a matter of law, and for a new trial in the matter.
In 2010, "Millionaire" creators Celador International, Inc. received a judgment of just over $269 million, and the company later received another $50 million after Judge Virginia Phillips awarded prejudgment interest to the British company.
Celador, which initially filed suit in 2004, had argued that Disney and its affiliates ABC, Buena Vista Television and Valleycrest Production set up numerous shady deals and on-the-sly arrangements that robbed Celador of hundreds of millions in expected revenues.
Disney lost a bid to overturn the jury's verdict in December 2010, but argued in its motion in the 9th Circuit that the U.S. District Court in Central California had "committed evidentiary, instructional and other errors."

Katt Williams didn't have much to laugh about this weekend after the comedian was arrested in Seattle, following an incident at a bar during which Williams allegedly attacked a woman with a cigarette, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to police Williams - born Micah Williams - "exchanged words" with other customers at the World Sports Grille in the city's South Lake Union area Sunday afternoon and "brandished a pool cue" at the bar's manager.
At one point, police say, Williams - who was in town to perform at the Paramount Theatre - followed a family outside of the bar and flicked a lit cigarette into their car, striking a woman just below the eye. He also threw a rock at the car, according to police.
Police showed up at the establishment just before 2:30 in the afternoon and, after a struggle to get Williams into the patrol car, transported him to the West Precinct. Williams was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault, harassment and obstruction, police said.
The bar incident wasn't Williams' only brush with police this weekend. According to the Seattle Police Department, after the 41-year-old comedian's show Friday night, three fans claimed Williams attacked them when they tried to take a picture with him after the show. Williams' denied the allegation, saying that the fans had forced their way into his dressing room, and no arrests were made.

Turkey's broadcasting regulator is fining a television channel for insulting religious values after it aired an episode of "The Simpsons" which shows God taking orders from the devil.
Radio and television watchdog RTUK said it was fining private broadcaster CNBC-e 52,951 lira ($30,000) over the episode of the hit U.S. animated TV series, whose scenes include the devil asking God to make him a coffee.
Turkey is a secular republic but most of its 75 million people are Muslim. Religious conservatives and secular opponents vie for public influence and critics of the government say it is trying to impose Islamic values by stealth.
"The Simpsons" first aired in 1989 and is the longest-running U.S. sitcom. It is broadcast in more than 100 countries and CNBC-e has been airing it in Turkey for almost a decade.

The manager of a Virginia-based heavy metal band says its lead singer will vigorously defend himself against a charge that he caused a fan's death at a concert in the Czech Republic.
Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe was charged Friday in Prague with causing bodily harm to another person with lethal consequences. The 41-year-old Blythe is accused of pushing the fan from the stage during a 2010 concert. The fan died of a head injury.
The Richmond-based band's manager Larry Mazer said in a statement Monday that Blythe responded professionally to the large number of fans who rushed the stage amid lax security.
Blythe spent five weeks in custody of Czech authorities before being released on bail in August. He has been in the U.S. since then.

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has joined the website World Net Daily as a columnist, the outlet reported on Sunday.
The conservative site is best known for promoting conspiracy theories, most notably about President Barack Obama's birthplace.
Santorum published his first column on Monday, which argues against the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
A former Pennsylvania senator, Santorum won 11 primaries and caucuses during his race for the Republican presidential nomination earlier this year. He said last month that he is considering running for president again in 2016.

The Dallas Museum of Art has returned an ancient mosaic to Turkish officials after discovering it was stolen.
The mosaic was returned to Turkish officials at a ceremony Monday in Dallas. Museum officials also launched an international cultural exchange that will include loaning works of art and sharing expertise. The first initiative will be with Turkey.
The museum bought the roughly 5-foot-by-5-foot Orpheus Mosaic at a public auction in 1999.
The mosaic depicts the mythic poet Orpheus calming wild animals by playing his lyre. It originally decorated the floor of a Roman building.
But the museum discovered evidence earlier this year that it was possibly stolen from an archaeological site. Museum officials then consulted Turkish officials, who provided photographic evidence documenting the looting.

Costumes worn by Michael Jackson commanded hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction, and Lady Gaga was among the collectors.
Gaga tweeted Sunday that she bought 55 pieces in the sale administered by Julien's Auctions and said she plans to keep the items "archived and expertly cared for in the spirit and love of Michael Jackson, his bravery and fans worldwide."
Auctioneer Darren Julien said the jacket Jackson wore during his "Bad" tour fetched $240,000. Two of Jackson's crystal-encrusted gloves sold for more than $100,000 each, as did other jackets and performance costumes.
The auction featuring the collection of Jackson's longtime costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush raised more than $5 million. Some proceeds benefited Guide Dogs of America and Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas.
Fyodor Khitruk, the creator of the Soviet Union's animated version of A.A. Milne's classic Winnie-the-Pooh tales, has died in Moscow. He was 95.
The Russian Animated Film Association said in a statement on its website on Monday that Khitruk died Monday morning at his home in Moscow. The date of the funeral has yet to be set.
The three much-loved Soviet cartoons of Vinni-Pukh, as Winnie the Pooh is known in Russia, were made between 1969 and 1972 and continue to be aired frequently on television to this day.
Along with Yuri Norshtein, whose 1975 "Hedgehog in the Fog" remains a cult classic, Khitruk has been credited as a leading innovator in the history of Soviet animation.
David Oliver Relin, co-author of the bestselling book "Three Cups of Tea," said in legal filings more than a year before his suicide that his career had been hurt by allegations of fabrications in the book recounting how Greg Mortenson started building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Relin committed suicide in Corbett, Ore., outside Portland, on Nov. 14, said the deputy Multnomah County medical examiner, Peter Bellant, late Sunday. Relin was 49.
The book, which has sold about 4 million copies since being published in 2006, describes how Mortenson became lost after a failed mountaineering expedition and was nursed back to health in a Pakistani village. Based on the villagers' kindness and the poverty he saw, he resolved to build a school for them.
Following allegations that parts of "Three Cups of Tea" were fabricated, Mortenson denied any wrongdoing, though he has acknowledged some of the events were compressed over different periods of time.
Attorney Sonia Montalbano described Relin in court documents as a journalist looking to write his first book when he was approached by a magazine editor Mortenson contacted looking for a writer to tell his story.
Relin then interviewed Mortenson, attended several of his lectures and read previous articles before preparing a book proposal that was bought by Penguin Group. After selling Penguin on the idea, Relin then conducted more interviews with Mortenson and others before writing the manuscript, Montalbano said.
In a 2008 interview with the University of Oregon literary journal Etude, Relin said he had objected to Mortenson being identified as co-author.
"That's been the only negative thing about this whole adventure for me," Relin said. "After I turned in the manuscript, I received a galley back from the publisher with two names on it. It was published that way over my objections."
The Democrat and Chronicle newspaper reported Relin was from Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from Vassar College and the Iowa Writers Workshop.
His second book, "Second Suns, Two Doctors and Their Amazing Quest to Restore Sight and Save Lives," was scheduled to be published in June.
