The Loved One is a 1965 black comedy film about the funeral business in Los Angeles, which is based on The Loved One: An Anglo-American Tragedy (1948), a short satirical novel by Evelyn Waugh. It was directed by British filmmaker Tony Richardson and the screenplay - which also drew on Jessica Mitford's book The American Way of Death (1963) - was written by noted American satirical novelist Terry Southern and British author Christopher Isherwood.

The book was adapted in 1965 by Terry Southern into a sprawling film of the same name, billed as The motion picture with something to offend everyone! Not particularly true to the book, the film features many in-joke cameos and familiar California filming locations like the Greystone Mansion. Christopher Isherwood worked on an early version of the screenplay and can be glimpsed as one of 'Uncle Frank's' mourners.

'The Loved One' starring Robert Morse. I thought it was Mel Brooks' 'History of the World, Pt 1' or something.

The Loved One-1965. Robert Morse and Jonathon Winters. It was a very satirical and dark movie on inspired by Jessica Mitford's "The American Way of Death!!" I remember my Mom reading the book. That book and this movie helped create the way that I want to go. Whispering Glades!! The strangest people I've ever known owned a mortuary In my home town.

PS: Over the WE, my morning care kids learned to dance, "Gangnam Style." This morning, they arrived with a CD (music) which I played for them, and they in turn, danced for me. Is there a better way to start a day? I ask you...

I made a lot guesses, but was way wrong... Evidently, it's the 1965 film, 'The Loved One'... which I never saw... which means I was never offended by it. Others, yes, of course... 'Dumb and Dumber' comes to mind. Only cuz it's so damn'd cringe-worthy! Jeff, that was awful. It was beneath you. You hear me?

The Loved One. I saw that movie in a theater, and I've never seen it again. It was hilarious, I don't know why it's not on TV every week. It was my first introduction to Robert Morse.
I don't know why I didn't answer yesterday. I looked up the answer. I thought I sent it but I looked in my sent messages and nada. Tired out from the feasting I guess.
Too baaad if you don't watch cable television...you are missing the thoroughly horrible made for "Lifetime TV" biopic "Liz and Dick" starring Grant Bowler as Sir Richard Burton and an actually totally and completely terrible Lindsay Lohan as Liz Taylor...wow..all her plastic surgery and drugs come spilling out on to the screen as her face kills the camera...it doesn't get any worse than this.
Oh my gawd...her ineptness erupts on the screen....who in the hell pitched this talentless tart to the producers? And I feel sorry for the director (and investors) who counted on Lindsay to inhabit Liz. Any body else would have been better....even Kristen Stewart...but they should have picked Alexis Kiley....a dead ringer for Liz ...all the way down to her magnificent breasts (which Montgomery Clift called "the best in all of Hollywood").
After all....when Dick met Liz on the set of "Cleopatra" it was her perfect breasts that he waxed poetic upon....left his wife Sybil for ...and humiliated Eddie Fisher to fondle....that is the deep and discerning plot theme for "Liz and Dick" (as well as alcohol induced insanity)
Shame on Lifetime for showing this shit...Shame on Lindsay Lohan for buying her way in ....and shame on Larry A. Thompson Productions for pursuing, producing and pimping this porn upon the public...shame shame.
As my dear dear brother "that MadCat" says....Purple Gene will go to hell and back to endure even the worst of the cinema (even the small screen)
Purple Gene gives this presumptuous piece pap smear an absolute zero ...that's 0.....nil ...a big nothing !

A Fox News Channel interview ended abruptly Monday after an author accused the network of hyping the killing of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, and "operating as a wing of the Republican Party."
The charges were made by Thomas Ricks, a veteran newspaper reporter and author of "The Generals," who was brought on for an interview with anchor Jon Scott about GOP criticism of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice's comments about the attacks.
Ricks said he thought the story of the Benghazi attacks was "hyped, by this network especially."
Scott asked why Ricks would call it hype when four Americans were killed, including the first U.S. ambassador in more than 30 years.
Ricks responded that few people knew how many U.S. security contractors were killed in Iraq and compared that to the attention paid to "what was essentially a small firefight" in Libya.
"I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of the Republican Party," Ricks said.
With that, Scott thanked him and turned to a co-anchor, who introduced a commercial.

A new survey confirms that America is a country full of "Marxists." But in this case, we're talking about facial hair, not political preferences.
According to results from the findmypast.com survey, Americans chose the late comedian Groucho Marx as having the best facial hair. Of course, the results were particularly noteworthy since Marx's mustache was a fake for most of his career.
Marx's trademark mustache was actually made of greasepaint, though he chose to grow a real mustache in later years rather than applying the makeup for performances.
Two of the three top finishers in the survey are fictional characters. The runners-up to Groucho Marx were the Dr. Seuss character the Lorax and the "Hunger Games" character Seneca Crane.
When it comes to the facial hair of everyday, real-life people, the survey found that North Americans overwhelmingly favor the mustache (72.8 percent) over any other kind of facial hair. Beards were a distant second (14.6 percent), followed by sideburns (6.8 percent) and "all of the above" (5.8 percent).
An Austrian photo gallery says a camera used by a photographer who documented the life of artist Pablo Picasso has sold for a world record price of €1.68 million ($2.19 million).
The Westlicht gallery says the Leica m3d belonged to David Douglas Duncan. The 96-year-old former photographer for LIFE magazine was a close friend of Picasso and published hundreds of exclusive photos of him.
Manufactured in 1955, the camera is one of four ever made, and the price is a world record for a commercially produced camera.
In a statement Monday, Westlicht says the second-highest price in the Saturday's sale was for a gold-plated Leica made in 1929, which sold for €1.02 million ($1.3 million).
Liu Qianping was visiting his 24-year-old granddaughter in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou recently when the women's clothes the aspiring fashion entrepreneur was packing into boxes caught his eye.
His visit came as the model that granddaughter Lu Ting and four friends had booked for a photo shoot to promote their online fashion business suddenly canceled, dealing a setback to their new venture.
But Liu, a 72-year-old former farmer visiting to escape the chilly winter of central Hunan province, stepped in to help.
"I walked into the room and saw them packing up some clothes and I thought they looked quite interesting and quite cute," Liu told Reuters.
"So I tried on a jacket and they found it really funny, and I thought it was quite funny. So they asked if they could take pictures of me and post them on the Internet to sell the clothes. And I said, 'why not?'"
A play about Amy Winehouse that was to premiere in Denmark in January has been canceled after the late British singer's family blocked its use of her music and photos.
Winehouse spokesman Chris Goodman said Monday the family had never granted the theater company permission to use the singer's materials.
The play "Amy" was written by a group of 11 Danish playwrights and was to have opened on Jan. 30 in a 220-seat theater in central Copenhagen. It was based on interviews, concerts, Winehouse's letters and newspaper articles.
"Amy" depicts the Grammy-winning soul singer's life and relationship with drugs and alcohol. Winehouse, known for her beehive hairdo, died from alcohol poisoning in July last year at the age of 27.

Actor Angus T. Jones, star of CBS's raunchy television comedy "Two and a Half Men", has urged viewers to change the channel, saying his new-found religious beliefs are at odds with his job playing a fun-loving teen on the popular show.
Jones, 19, who has played Jake Harper - the son of Jon Cryer's character Alan - for nine years, appealed to fans to stop watching the show "and filling your head with filth."
In a YouTube video made for the California-based Forerunner Christian Church, Jones said his recent Bible studies made him uncomfortable with the risque humor that marks one of the most-watched comedies on U.S. television.
"If you watch 'Two and a Half Men', please stop watching 'Two and a Half Men," Jones says in the video. "I'm on 'Two and a Half Men' and I don't want to be on it."
"I'm not okay with what I'm learning, what the Bible says and being on that television show," Jones added.
Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen found a kindred spirit in actress Lindsay Lohan when they worked on the set of "Scary Movie 5" and gave the actress $100,000 to pay off some of her overdue taxes.
Sheen's camp on Monday confirmed that the "Anger Management" star gave the cash gift to the in-and-out-of-trouble Lohan who reportedly owes the U.S. government more than $200,000 in unpaid taxes for 2009 and 2010.
"Charlie has a long history of helping out his friends in many ways and this is just another example of that," Sheen's publicist Larry Solters said in a statement.
Sheen and Lohan worked earlier this year on the horror spoof "Scary Movie 5" which is scheduled for an April 2013 release.

The 6-year-old daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith is walking in her mother's shoes, taking a starring role in the spring ad campaign for Guess Kids.
Guess? Inc.'s creative director Paul Marciano says in a statement that has the "same playful spirit" that her mother would carry onto a set.
The brand hired Smith in 1992, and she appeared in its sexy denim-wear ads through 1993. She was a relative modeling unknown at the time, although earlier in 1992 she was on a Playboy magazine cover.
Dannielynn's campaign also stars Peyton Edmunds, the daughter of music industry veteran Babyface. The ads were shot on a Malibu, Calif., beach, and they'll start appearing in magazines, on billboards and on buses beginning in January.
Fifteen Nepali artists were closeted for a month with a heap of 1.5 metric tons (1.7 tons) of trash picked up from Mount Everest. When they emerged, they had transformed the litter into art.
The 75 sculptures, including one of a yak and another of wind chimes, were made from empty oxygen bottles, gas canisters, food cans, torn tents, ropes, crampons, boots, plates, twisted aluminum ladders and torn plastic bags dumped by climbers over decades on the slopes of the world's highest mountain.
Kripa Rana Shahi, director of art group Da Mind Tree, said the sculpting - and a resulting recent exhibition in the Nepali capital of Kathmandu - was aimed at spreading awareness about keeping Mount Everest clean.
Nearly 4,000 people have climbed the 8,850 meter-high (29,035 feet) Mount Everest, many of them several times, since it was first scaled by New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953.
Although climbers need to deposit $4,000 with the government, which is refunded only after they provide proof of having brought the garbage generated by them from the mountain, activists say effective monitoring is difficult.
