We all have had to make difficult decisions, from time to time, that involve compromises that can be distasteful. Such as...
A.) Would you take your dream job that has great pay and benefits, but you would have to relocate to an area that you'd loathe (such as Oklahoma)?
or...
B.) Would you live in an area that you've always wanted to but at a minimum wage, hand to mouth, subsistence level existence with no chance of improvement?
It's either A or B... No in between... Choose! Choose now! Ha Ha!

Susan Estrich: Everything and Nothing (creators.com)
Everything and nothing happened on Tuesday. I could have predicted that. Whoever "wins" says it means everything. Whoever "loses" says it means nothing. That's how off-off-year elections work. History supports both sides.

Connie Schultz: Pay No Attention to the Wrinkles (creators.com)
Last summer, I was at a reception in Washington, D.C., when a woman in her early 40s leaned in to whisper with lips so swollen with collagen they looked ready to burst. It was one of those moments when my immediate response was a silent "Oh, honey. No." Broke my heart. The longer she and I chatted the more I couldn't help but think that I liked her more than she did.
"'Meditations': (Modern Library Classics) by Marcus Aurelius and Gregory Hays": A review by Doug Brown
Meditations is one of those rare books that you can recommend or give as a gift to pretty much anybody, due to its universality. Marcus Aurelius calls on himself to live simply, remain humble, avoid being judgmental, not fear death, and see all things as interconnected. Good advice for the king and for the people.

Okay, as for Sir Paul. McCartney bought an Old English sheepdog puppy in 1965, soon after buying his house on Cavendish Avenue, London. He named the dog Martha, and she was his first pet. Therefore, I expect the song was for this canine love...
BTW, the song was recorded without any other Beatles, the jaunty Martha My Dear was written by Paul McCartney as a piano exercise, and was released on the White Album.
Love me them Beatles :)

Academy-award winning actor Warren Beatty can go ahead with a California lawsuit against a unit of bankrupt Tribune Co over rights to comic strip detective Dick Tracy, a federal judge ruled on Monday.
According to court papers, Beatty bought the motion picture and television rights for Dick Tracy in 1985. He went on to star in and direct the 1990 film by the same name that won three Academy awards and also starred Dustin Hoffman, Madonna and Al Pacino.
Tribune has said an agreement that granted rights to Beatty had lapsed because the actor-director had not started work on a new project based on the character.
Beatty contends that he was producing a television special last year about Dick Tracy when a Tribune subsidiary notified him the Dick Tracy rights had lapsed.

Sir Simon Rattle's new contract with the Berlin Philharmonic is just days old but already he's looking ahead - to the orchestra's coast-to-coast tour U.S. tour starting this week, and to the role that classical music can and will play in 21st century society.
Rattle and the 128 members of the Berlin Philharmonic depart Monday for a seven-stop U.S. tour that will take them from New York and Boston to Ann Arbor, Michigan and Chicago, before wrapping up in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Unlike on previous tours, ticket sales have been sluggish this year, a problem that reflects the ongoing economic crisis as well as the challenges classical music faces in today's world.
TV Land and TV Guide Network have jointly acquired the basic cable rights to HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
TV Guide will begin airing Seasons 1-7 of the Larry David comedy starting in February. TV Land will air the episodes after the TV Guide run in 2013 (though it could start later if HBO produces an eighth season).
In addition, both networks will acquire broadband, wireless and video-on-demand rights to the program, allowing the distribution of "Curb" content to multiple screens. The cost of the deal is expected to be south of $600,000 per episode.
"Curb" has been sold into syndication previously, with Tribune stations picking up the rights to it and HBO's "Entourage" last May. The series will air starting next year in 17 Tribune markets for a three-year run.

Syndicated talk show "Dr. Phil" has been renewed through the 2013-2014 season in 70% of the country, including 20 of the top 25 markets.
The three-year renewal will take "Dr. Phil," now in its eighth year, through its 12th season.
Since its debut in September 2002, the series has been ranked second among all daytime talk shows behind "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Host Phil McGraw is the subject of two recent lawsuits filed by former participants on the show claiming inappropriate behavior on his part.
Jennifer Lopez won a court order Monday barring her first husband from making their sex life public - at least for a day.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant issued a temporary restraining order blocking distribution of a proposed movie, "The J.Lo and Ojani Noa Story." The order is in effect until a hearing on whether to extend it is completed. That hearing was scheduled to resume Tuesday.
"I'm going to fight this," Noa said of the order.
Lopez sued Noa on Friday for $10 million, claiming he breached a prior confidentiality agreement by intending to sell a movie containing hours of home video footage, including some showing Lopez in sexual situations on their 1997 honeymoon.
In its first study of women's health around the globe, the World Health Organization said Monday that the AIDS virus is the leading cause of death and disease among women between the ages of 15 and 44.
Unsafe sex is the leading risk factor in developing countries for these women of childbearing age, with others including lack of access to contraceptives and iron deficiency, the WHO said. Throughout the world, one in five deaths among women in this age group is linked to unsafe sex, according to the U.N. agency.
"Women who do not know how to protect themselves from such infections, or who are unable to do so, face increased risks of death or illness," WHO said in a 91-page report. "So do those who cannot protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy or control their fertility because of lack of access to contraception."
WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan noted that women enjoy a biological advantage because they tend to live six to eight years longer than men. But in many parts of the world they suffer serious disadvantages because of poverty, poorer access to health care and cultural norms that put a priority on the well-being of men, she said.
t was Black Friday at A&E Television Networks where 100 employees, 10% of the company's workforce, were laid off.
A company spokesman said the job losses were a direct result of the August merger with female-oriented cable network Lifetime.
Under the post-merger structure, Lifetime is being brought into the AETN fold alongside A&E and History Channel under AETN president and CEO Abbe Raven.
The combined company is jointly owned by Disney-ABC and Hearst, each holding a 42.5% stake, and NBC Universal controlling the remaining 15.5%.

Mutual of Omaha may have had its own "aha moment." The insurance company has decided to settle its lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey's production company over rights to the phrase.
Jim Nolan, a spokesman for Mutual, and Angela DePaul, a spokeswoman for Winfrey's Chicago-based Harpo Productions Inc., would only say Monday that the case was resolved amicably. Documents filed last month in U.S. District Court in Omaha do not outline details of the settlement.
Mutual and Harpo began sparring earlier this year after Mutual starting using the slogan "official sponsor of the aha moment" in a national advertising campaign.
Harpo asked Mutual in a letter to stop using "aha moment" to promote its insurance and financial products because it didn't want confusion about whether there was a relationship between Mutual and Winfrey. Winfrey's representatives argued in April that the phrase was synonymous with Winfrey and her show.
A Japanese singer-actress famous in Asia for her sweet, girl-next-door image was given a suspended jail sentence on Monday for using illegal stimulants in the latest celebrity drugs case in Japan.
The court handed down an 18-month jail term, suspended for three years, to 38-year-old Noriko Sakai, who shot to fame in the late 1980s with pop songs and later turned to acting.
Sakai's drug scandal has made headlines in Japan and in parts of Asia where she has many fans, since she and her husband, Yuichi Takaso, were arrested in August for possessing and using drugs.
Sakai was held in detention for nearly 40 days after her arrest before being released on 5 million yen ($55,500) bail.
A dispensary employee holds a medical marijuana flower, 'bud', at the Peace in Medicine dispensary in Sebastopol, Calif., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009. The lone medical marijuana dispensary in this Northern California wine country enclave has become such a pot destination that it has more patients on its rolls than the town has people. But local officials view the business as a welcome addition to the community and a strong source of tax revenue during the recession. The Peace in Medicine marijuana dispensary is a clean, modern operation occupying a recently closed Ford dealership near downtown and could easily be mistaken for a doctor's office, if not for the three security guards and overwhelming skunky smell of pot.

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver's office took a close interest in the state's film promotion efforts long before questions about spending and bookkeeping prompted the governor to freeze the program, e-mails obtained by The Associated Press indicate.
The 224 e-mails between the Department of Economic Development and governor's office from mid-2007 to fall 2009 show Culver's office was kept fully abreast of the Iowa Film Office's efforts to lure moviemakers to the state by offering them big tax breaks. The AP requested the communication through the state's open records law.
None of the e-mails were sent directly to Culver.
The governor's oversight of the film office has become an issue since allegations surfaced in September of inappropriate tax credits and sloppy bookkeeping. Culver fired the film office manager, Thomas Wheeler. Department of Economic Development director Michael Tramontina and a deputy director abruptly resigned.
The world is not coming to an end on December 21, 2012, the US space agency insisted Monday in a rare campaign to dispel widespread rumors fueled by the Internet and a new Hollywood movie.
The latest big screen offering from Sony Picture, "2012," arrives in theaters on Friday, with a 200-million-dollar production about the end of the world supposedly based on myths backed by the Mayan calendar.
The doomsday scenario revolves around claims that the end of time will come as an obscure Planet X -- or Nibiru -- heads toward or collides with Earth.
Some websites accuse NASA of concealing the truth on the wayward planet's existence, but the US space agency denounced such stories as an "Internet hoax."
