The 22 People Who Secretly Create All Of Pop Culture (Cracked)
There are no lizard people, or illuminati, or aliens disguising themselves as human beings that secretly run this planet. But there are a handful of individuals who are responsible for shaping all of pop culture.
A.C. Grimes: "She Gave My Dad A Kidney: The 6 Kindest Teachers On Earth" (Cracked)
Under the best of circumstances, a career in education is a labor of benevolent masochism. Teachers spend forever and a summer crafting lesson plans for ungrateful students who draw nasty caricatures of them on their Trapper Keepers. But there are some educators who have gone above and beyond even that high bar, pole vaulting into nigh-sainthood.
Patrick Coyne: 5 Weirdly Sexual Escapades Behind The Scenes Of Kids' TV (Cracked)
Anyone who's ever worked with children knows that being sweet and wholesome all day is exhausting. As soon as you go on break you want to do a shot of vodka or tell a filthy joke, because otherwise all the saccharine innocence would drive you crazy. That's why the teacher's lounge always smelled like cigarettes and cursing.

Randall was first, and correct, with:
Randy Newman
Deborah replied:
Randy Newman has been nominated for 20 Academy Awards and has won 2. He's more talented than his awards indicate.
Back from the great state of Texas, where we experienced heat, humidity, sorrow, joy, rain, humidity. Second August in a row that we've flown back to bury one of my husband's family. Nobody wants a third year of that.
It's good to be back home.
Marian responded:
A coyote from a beach area in socal told me that Randy Newman won two Academy Awards.
Lois Of The World Wide Web said:
Randy got two oscars for some toy related songs or other, but I will alway treasure his early works, which I listened to while drinking J&B Scotch straight from the bottle, way back in the early 80's. I think this one of Randy's would be a perfect campaign song for The Donald:
"Political Science"
No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them
Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us
We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too
Speaking of ants, Bart and I saw "Ant-Man" yesterday. It was silly fun!
Dale the Giant of Diamond Springs Norcali answered:
It's twice.. I don't like short people.
DJ Useo responded:
I read about this in the Telegraph. The answer is 2.
Not been real fond of his output myself, but I prefer other styles.
I do acknowledge he's a master of what he does.

Academy Award winning actress Julianne Moore has been so successful that she could probably get her high school renamed after her. At least some people would be for it. Instead, she's joined an effort to change the name of J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, Virginia, honoring a Confederate general, to Thurgood Marshall, the name of the first African American Supreme Court Justice.
The campaign at the school began in June, following the shooting rampage at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina. Moore, who attended the school from 1975 to 1977, and a former classmate, producer Bruce Cohen, heard about it and created a petition for the cause on Change.org that had amassed 28,723 supporters as of Monday.
"When our school was founded in 1959, it was named after Stuart, a Confederate General, to protest the 1954 Brown vs. the Board of Education ruling that ended the segregation of public schools," they wrote. "Today, this school is attended by a diverse group of students who should not have to attend a school that bears the name of a man who fought to keep African Americans enslaved."
The Washington Post reported that 49 percent of the school's students are Hispanic, 24 percent are white, 14 percent are Asian, and 11 percent are black.
Moore gave a statement to the newspaper further explaining her view. "We name our buildings, monuments, and parks after exalted and heroic individuals as a way to honor them, and inspire ourselves to do better and reach for more in our own lives," she said. "It is reprehensible to me that in this day and age a school should carry and celebrate the name of a person who fought for the enslavement of other human beings. I think the students of this school deserve better than that moniker."
Thurber Prize judges have made it official: Women are funny, too.
Nearly 20 years after its founding, the all-male winners' circle for the Thurber Prize for American Humor is finally changing.
New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast, actress-writer Annabelle Gurwitch and novelist Julie Schumacher were the finalists announced Monday by organizers of the $5,000 prize.
Chast was cited for her graphic memoir about her parents, "Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?" Gurwitch was included for her essay collection "I See You Made An Effort." Schumacher got a nod for the academic satire, told in letters, called "Dear Committee Members."

Bindi Irwin is the first celebrity contestant set to compete in the upcoming 21st season of Dancing With the Stars.
The announcement was made on Monday's Good Morning America with Bindi in the show's New York studio to talk about her excitement and nerves about competing.
The daughter of late crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, Bindi admitted that she was "for sure" more nervous about dancing than she is about wrangling crocodiles, noting that she just returned from an annual crocodile research trip a few days earlier.
"The judges scare me more than crocodiles," Bindi said on GMA. "They're so knowledgeable. They're supreme athletes. I'm just this girl from Australia who's used to crocs."

The National Rifle Association and other gun rights groups sued Seattle on Monday over a new tax on firearms and ammunition sales, arguing the city had violated a Washington state law barring municipalities from enacting local firearms regulations.
Earlier this month, Seattle City Council unanimously approved a "gun violence tax" on sellers of firearms and ammunition, directing proceeds toward violence prevention programs and research beginning in January. A companion measure requires gun owners to report cases of lost and stolen firearms to police.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday in King County Superior Court, argues that Washington state law bars municipalities from creating their own gun regulations, the NRA said.
In 2009, Seattle City Council passed regulations that prohibited the carrying of firearms in city parks, an ordinance that was struck down in 2012 by the state's highest court, the NRA said.
Almost 80,000 people had by Monday signed a petition urging the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes when he visits London next month.
The petition was launched earlier this month by British citizen Damian Moran and is posted on the government's website.
"Under international law he (Netanyahu) should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the UK for the massacre of over 2,000 civilians in 2014," Moran said, referring to the 51-day offensive by Israeli forces in Gaza last year.
If the number of signatories reaches 100,000, the petition can be considered for debate in Britain's parliament.
But Moran told media he doubted it would reach the chamber given the close relationship between Israel and Britain.

Sunday's 90-minute series premiere of "Fear the Walking Dead" made television history. Delivering 10.1 million viewers, it took the crown as most-watched series debut in cable TV history for total viewers and all key demos, the AMC network said Monday.
The episode delivered 6.3 million adults in the 18-to-49 demographic many advertisers prefer to reach.
A "Talking Dead" Season 6 Preview Special that preceded the "Fear" premiere delivered 4.2 million viewers, with 2.5 million viewers in the 18-to-49 demo.
The first season of "Fear the Walking Dead" will run for six episodes this fall, then return for a second season of 15 episodes next year.
Spirits arrived at the International Space Station on Monday. Not the ghostly ones, but the kind you drink -- distilled spirits.
The six astronauts won't be sneaking a sip. It's all for science.
A Japanese company known for its whiskey and other alcoholic beverages included five types of distilled spirits in a space station cargo ship. The station's big robotic arm - operated by Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui - grabbed onto the supply craft launched Wednesday by his homeland. Flight controllers helped anchor it down.
The supply ship contains nearly 10,000 pounds of cargo, including the six liquor samples. Suntory Global Innovation Center in Tokyo wants to see if alcoholic beverages mellow the same in space as they do on Earth.
The experiment has NASA's blessing. Spokesman Dan Huot said all research flown to the space station is agreed upon by everyone involved. It's not the first liquor-related space study.
