Josh Marshall: Oh Nos! Trump Cut Off By Bulk Email Vendor for Epic Spamming (TPM)
This doesn't mean Trump won't be able to send emails anymore. There are more vendors out there. Indeed, he was likely already using multiple vendors. But Trump's sudden move from indifference to fundraising to maniacal fundraising has forced him to become perhaps one of the biggest spamming operations going at the moment. And it's not clear how that can be quickly resolved or improved.
Mark Hill: "5 Ugly Realities Of Wikipedia (I Learned As An Admin)" (Cracked)
Unless you're one of those freaks with attentive parents and a good education, Wikipedia has probably taught you more than school and family combined. It's society's go-to source for knowledge, from settling disputes at the bar to cranking out term papers hours before they're due. But as Chris, a veteran Wikipedia administrator explained to us, this is a problem. That's because …
Ryan Menezes and Jason Garramone: "I Had Testicular Cancer: 4 Awkward Realities" (Cracked)
You've heard the phrase "I'd give my right nut for [X]?" Well, I did give my right nut ... for cancer. Sounds like a terrible deal, right? Well, I choose to view the sack as more half-full than half-empty. Plus I got some choice nicknames out of the deal: odd-ball, uniballer, speed bag, wrecking ball, and (my personal favorite) sac-lops. But it's not all fun and games until somebody loses a ball. Let me tell you …
Various ways of expressing fineness have been used and two remain in common use: millesimal fineness expressed in units of parts per 1,000 and karats used only for gold. Karats measure the parts per 24, so that 18 karat = 18/24 = 75% and 24 karat gold is considered 100% gold.

Is it a coincidence
That 24 (karat, pure gold) is a reflection of 42, the answer to the
great question of life, the universe, and everything? I think not.
Police: Officers kill knife-waving man in California - SFGate Maybe someone can explain why other means of non-lethal force is seldom deployed in cases like this. Bean-bags, rubber bullets, etc. In the Dallas case, rather than bomb the shit outta the perp, what ever happened to good ol' tear gas? Why wasn't the robot equipped with other, less lethal tools? They could've put the guy to sleep with aerosol agents!

If I receive a national security letter I will immediately photograph it, post it online everywhere I can, and then make a video of me burning it. I will then await my arrest. If you want to put me in jail then come get me mother fucker.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is "doing well" after he walked off a New York City stage during a performance with Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper and was taken to a hospital, a representative said Monday.
Perry became ill around 9:30 p.m. Sunday while performing with the Hollywood Vampires rock group at the Ford Amphitheater in Brooklyn's Coney Island.
"Joe Perry is doing well and resting and appreciates all your good wishes," said the group's representative, Sujata Murthy.
The band's name refers to a '70s drinking club Cooper was part of that also included John Lennon, The Who's Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson, Bernie Taupin and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees.
In February, the Hollywood Vampires performed a tribute to the late Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister at the Grammys.
Earning $170 million over the past year, the pop megastar is the No. 1 highest-paid entertainer on Forbes' new Celebrity 100 list for 2016. The full list will be released soon.
Swift sat in eighth place with $80 million in earnings on last year's list, meaning she saw a 112% increase in the year that included the 1989 World Tour and brand partnerships with Diet Coke, Keds, and Apple.
Even so, Swift's earnings are only slightly more than half of last year's No. 1 earner Floyd Mayweather, who raked in a whopping $300 million.
Chelsea Manning, the U.S. soldier imprisoned for leaking classified files to pro-transparency site WikiLeaks, attempted to commit suicide last week, her lawyers said on Monday.
"Last week, Chelsea made a decision to end her life," attorneys Chase Strangio, Vincent Ward and Nancy Hollander said in a joint statement. "Her attempt to take her own life was unsuccessful.
The statement confirms earlier media reports that said Manning's hospitalization last week near the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, resulted from a suicide attempt.
The lawyers said Manning, 28, is under close supervision and expects to remain on that status for several weeks.
They said the U.S. military committed a "gross breach of confidentiality" for revealing her "personal health information" and hospitalization to the press.

Pope Francis on Monday named a former Fox News correspondent to head up the Vatican press office and appointed the tiny state's first-ever female deputy spokesperson.
American Greg Burke, 56, brought in by the Vatican in 2013 to overhaul its public-relations operation, will take up the post on August 1, when outgoing chief spokesman Federico Lombardi steps down.
His deputy will be Spanish journalist Paloma Garcia Overo, 40, previously the Rome and Vatican correspondent for the Spanish broadcaster COPE.
Burke, who also worked as correspondent in Rome for the Catholic weekly National Catholic Reporter and Time magazine, is a "numerary" member of the influential conservative Catholic group Opus Dei, meaning he is a lay person but is celibate.
The number of medals slain Navy Seal and "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle received has been corrected following a military investigation, a Navy spokeswoman said Sunday.
Lt. Jackie Pau told the Associated Press that the investigation and review of Kyle's discharge paperwork, known as a DD214 form, determined he had earned one Silver Star and four Bronze Stars with combat "V'' for valor.
In his best-selling book, Kyle wrote he had received two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars.
It's unclear if Kyle knew of the discrepancy when he wrote his book, which was made into a hit movie. Kyle, regarded as the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, was fatally shot at a Texas shooting range in 2013. A former Marine was convicted in his death.
The Navy investigation, which was concluded on June 14, didn't determine how the medal miscount happened, but such errors on discharge paperwork are not uncommon, Pau said, adding that in 2015, the Navy made 3,800 corrections to DD214 forms.
Between 2005 and 2014, U.S. cancer centers upped their spending on ads targeting the general public, with 890 centers spending $173 million on ads by 2014, according to a new analysis.
Spending more than tripled since 2005 and was highly concentrated among a small number of cancer centers, said study coauthor Laura B. Vater of Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
In 2014, 20 of those 890 cancer centers, including big names like Cancer Treatment Centers of America, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, accounted for 86 percent of advertising spending.
Spending on advertising does not necessarily reflect quality of care, however, the authors note.
"Previous research has shown that cancer center advertisements use emotion-based techniques to influence viewers and often do not include information about benefits, risks, or costs of cancer treatment," Vater told Reuters Health by email. "There is a concern among some physicians that such advertising may persuade patients to pursue high-cost treatments with a low likelihood of improving outcomes."

More officers have been put on patrol in the Caja del Rio area near Santa Fe after the reported killing of a burrowing owl, a federal land management official said.
Such a killing is rare, and the incident is being taken seriously, Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Donna Hummel said. The species is among those protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
Killing the protected owl could mean as much as six months in prison and a $500 fine, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The owl's death appears to have been caused by a gunshot, New Mexico Wildlife Center spokeswoman Dawn Wright said.
Bird watcher Julie Luetzelschwab photographed two burrowing owls on June 27, and three days later one of them was missing. The owl was found nearby. One leg was missing and the wings were spread as if it had been flying when it was struck. X-rays showed shrapnel in the bird's left wing and shoulder blade.
Mosaics depicting prominent Bible scenes were uncovered during annual excavations of an ancient synagogue in Israel's Lower Galilee.
During the excavation in June, archaeologists found two new panels of a mosaic floor in a Late Roman (fifth-century) synagogue at Huqoq, an ancient Jewish village. One panel showed Noah's ark with pairs of animals, such as lions, leopards and bears. The other panel depicted soldiers being swallowed by large fish, surrounded by overturned chariots in the parting of the Red Sea.
Such images are extremely rare for the time period, according to excavation director Jodi Magness, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, whose work was funded by the National Geographic Society.
"I know of only two other scenes of the parting of the Red Sea in ancient synagogues," Magness told National Geographic.
The ark scenes are also uncommon; Magness said she knows of only two other mosaics showing such depictions.
