Robert Evans: 5 Horrific Things You Learn Preserving Brains for a Living (Cracked)
Mark Wilson was once a naive young neuroscientist when he stumbled upon one of the world's largest brain banks rotting away in the bowels of an Unnamed Hospital somewhere in the British Isles. Instead of immediately Frankensteining up his own personal army, as would have been prudent, he got to work restoring it. He soon found himself thrust into a wondrous Narnia of preserved brains, deadly ice and impossibly rare diseases.

What a Shaman Sees in A Mental Hospital (Earth: We Are One)
In the shamanic view, mental illness signals "the birth of a healer," explains Malidoma Patrice Somé. Thus, mental disorders are spiritual emergencies, spiritual crises, and need to be regarded as such to aid the healer in being born.

Robert Charles Durman Mitchum (August 6, 1917 - July 1, 1997) was an American film actor, author, composer and singer. He is #23 on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest male American screen legends of all time. Mitchum rose to prominence for his starring roles in several major works of the film noir style, and is considered a forerunner of the anti-heroes prevalent in film during the 1950s and 1960s. He may be best-remembered for his roles in such films as The Story of G.I. Joe (1945), Crossfire (1947), Out of the Past (1947), The Night of the Hunter (1955), and Cape Fear (1962).
One of the lesser-known aspects of Mitchum's career was his forays into music, both as singer and composer. Mitchum's voice was often used instead of that of a professional singer when his characters sang in his films. Notable productions featuring Mitchum's own singing voice included Rachel and the Stranger, River of No Return and The Night of the Hunter. After hearing traditional calypso music and meeting artists such as Mighty Sparrow and Lord Invader while filming Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison in the Caribbean island of Tobago, he recorded Calypso - is like so ... in March 1957. On the album, released through Capitol Records, he emulated the calypso sound and style, even adopting the style's unique pronunciations and slang.
Although Mitchum continued to use his singing voice in his film work, he waited until 1967 to record his follow-up record, That Man, Robert Mitchum, Sings. The album, released by Nashville-based Monument Records, took him further into country music. "Little Old Wine Drinker Me", the first single, was a top-ten hit at country radio, reaching No. 9 there, and crossed over onto mainstream radio, where it peaked at No. 96.

Dean Martin of Steubenville, Ohio was a handsome, fun-loving Italian. Oh! He even hung out with St. Ronnie of Rayguns! Oh! Look at Nancy! Did you know that his daughter Deena boinked Charles Manson. Yuck

I think this was Dean Martin.
Lois Of Oregon responded:
Robert Mitchum was an amazing actor, and no doubt a lovely
person, but I have been terrified of him for 48 years, ever
since my friend Cece's clueless mother dropped us of at the
movie house...alone...two ten year old girls...to see a
double feature: "I know who you are and I saw what you did",
and "CAPE FEAR". I never recovered.

Robert Mitchum, a man of many talents.
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to

Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.

isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost

figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just

Asked which U.S. president of the past 25 years they admired most, 42 percent named the 42nd president - more than twice the percentage of any other president.
The other three received roughly the same amount of admirers: President Barack Obama (18 percent), resident George W. Bush (17 percent) and President George H. W. Bush (16 percent).
In 2009, Pancake Mountain, the alternative children's television show that became a cult hit among adults for its performances by musicians such as Arcade Fire, the White Stripes and Metric, premiered on a local cable access show in Washington, D.C. Starting today, the show will return online with a new episode every Monday for 10 weeks, and we've got the premiere episode and performance by Garbarge frontwoman Shirley Manson to see now. (This and all other episodes can be seen on the show's PBS Digital Studios YouTube channel.)
In this clip, Manson sing-raps a lesson about Germany over Sixties-styled farfisa organ and fuzz guitar. Starting with the country's most popular foods and basic vocabulary, Manson schools viewers on the Autobahn and lederhosen before showcasing Krautrock stars such as Can and Neu! and classical composers.
The full episode features a goat puppet named Rufus Leaking learning the origins of the bass line from "Walk on the Wild Side" and teaching co-host Captain Perfect not to talk on a cell phone while driving.
This season of Pancake Mountain will feature appearances by Reggie Watts, a regular cooking segment by the Jesus Lizard's David Yow, a new intro song by the Distillers' Brody Dalle and performances by numerous other rockers. As the program's mission statement shows, the goal is bridge children with their parents who have tired of pandering children's programming.
A few weeks ago, John Oliver's net neutrality appeal during his HBO show went viral, convincing many Internet users to leave comments with the FCC about the its controversial proposal that would allow for Internet "fast lanes." In Oliver's original smackdown of the FCC, he said that having Wheeler run the Federal Communications Commission despite working previously as a cable company lobbyist was "the equivalent of needing a babysitter and hiring a dingo." Meanwhile,, on Friday Wheeler was asked whether he had heard Oliver's remarks, and the chairman actually made a point of denying that he is a dingo.
This particular comment was enough for Oliver to demand on Sunday night during a new Last Week Tonight edition that Wheeler proves he isn't a dingo.
"That's exactly what a dingo would say if he didn't want anyone to know he was a dingo," Oliver said about Wheeler's denial.
"Have you, at any time, ever consumed a swamp-wallaby for its nutrients?" Oliver asked, asking for a signed document from a zoologist proving that Wheeler isn't a dingo.
Members of the Vancouver Police Pipe Band march in central London, backdropped by Buckingham Palace, as they perform at the Changing of the Guard ceremony, Monday, June 16, 2014. Canada's Vancouver Police Pipe Band became the first non-military pipe band to perform at the Changing of the Guard in the ceremony's 350-year history. Thousands of bands have performed this ceremony over the centuries, but the duty has always fallen to a military unit. Formed in 1914, the Vancouver Police Pipe Band is the oldest non-military pipe band in British Columbia, and with 100 years of uninterrupted service, it stands as the longest continually serving police pipe band in the world, according to the force.

A 12-year-old transgender Alberta boy has been granted a new birth certificate that recognizes him as male.
Wren Kauffman was presented with the new document on Sunday in Edmonton during a Pride festival brunch hosted by the city's mayor.
Kauffman had filed a complaint with the Alberta Human Rights Commission over the inability to change the sex on his birth certificate.
Alberta law states that transgender persons must have reassignment surgery before they can change the sex on their birth certificates, but Premier Dave Hancock said in April that the surgery requirement will be dropped.
Wren, who was born a girl, had said it was stressful being listed as female.
Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday accused her country's election commission of bias and rejected warnings to modify her language towards the military ahead of next year's polls.
Since she became a lawmaker two years ago, the former political prisoner-turned-politician has been campaigning to amend a military-drafted constitution that bars her from becoming president.
But the country's top election body last month warned her against using language that "challenges the army" during her rallies.
Speaking at the end of a four-day state visit to Nepal, Suu Kyi said "the election commission is not the most neutral one in the world".
The 2008 constitution blocks anyone whose spouse or children are overseas citizens from leading the country -- a clause widely believed to be targeted at the Nobel laureate, whose two sons are British.

The Republican National Committee has a new weapon in its ongoing effort to derail Hillary Clinton's road to the White House: a giant squirrel.
The "HRC Squirrel" mascot, which the RNC unveiled late last week, is "determined to let Americans know that another Clinton in the White House would be nuts."
According to the RNC press release, the squirrel "recognizes the dangers of a Hillary Clinton presidency and will continue to dig up her record, no matter how hard the liberal media tries to bury it."
The squirrel made its first public appearance Friday in Washington at a stop on Clinton's book tour. On Monday, the RNC released a video ("It's Nuts") that spoofs ESPN's "SportsCenter" commercials.
It's been "a banner year" for icebergs off Newfoundland, drawing tourists east and sparking interest in the towering walls of ice online.
"Folks are coming from all over the world. They're just totally intrigued with icebergs," Captain Barry Rogers, president of Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours, told the Canadian Press.
"We've had some great ice years, but I think this one is going to be the biggest year of all. We've just had a huge flow of icebergs coming from Greenland," he added.
The Facebook page Newfoundland Iceberg Sightings has been sharing user-submitted photos of some of the awe-inspiring glacial structures.
On Twitter, Iceberg Finder shares facts, locations and videos of icebergs as they travel along Newfoundland and Labrador's northeast coast with its more than 6,500 followers.

According to the news release from Peru's Ministry of Culture, the artefacts are the first shipment from a total of 89 ancient Paracas textiles that were removed from the country illegally as far back as 1930 and repatriated back under an agreement established between the governments of the city of Gothenburg and Peru.

The Nielsen company has delayed its ratings for Los Angeles radio stations because it found an employee of a Univision-owned radio station was cheating the system.
Nielsen strictly forbids employees of media organizations from participating in its measurement system. But the company said Monday that an employee of KSCA radio station had misrepresented himself to become part of Nielsen's sample audience, and reported that he'd been listening to a lot of KSCA.
Nielsen said Monday the company is recalculating its Los Angeles radio rating so that the KSCA radio employee's preferences aren't included.
Univision Radio President Jose Valle said the employee, who was not identified, has been fired.
A nephew of "Duck Dynasty's" Phil Robertson says he is running for the Louisiana congressional seat held by Vance McAllister, who was elected with the TV family's support and later was wrapped up in scandal when video surfaced showing him kissing a married staffer.
Zach Dasher, a 36-year-old Republican who has never run for office, said in a statement Monday announcing his candidacy for the Nov. 4 election that he opposed the federal health overhaul and abortion and supports a constitutional amendment requiring that Congress balance the budget.
"I got to looking around at the problems in politics today, and what I see in Washington, D.C., is no God. There is no God. The elite political class thinks they can be running our lives," he said in an interview with The Associated Press.
"I think there's a vacuum in D.C. of people who understand where rights come from. Rights don't come from men. They come from God."
Dasher said his decision wasn't influenced by what happened with McAllister. He said he met with his extended family, including the stars of the A&E show, at cousin Al Robertson's home to discuss the congressional race. Dasher's mom is the sister of Phil and Silas "Uncle Si" Robertson.
A Bru tribal woman enjoys a 'Maktu', a traditional smoking pipe at the Naisingpara Bru refugee Relief camp in Tripura state, India, 16 June 2014. The repatriation of the Mizoram Bru refugees will be carried out on 17 June 2014 from six Bru refugee camps who are now lodging in transit camps in neighbouring Tripura state, since they fled Mizoram in 1997 following ethnic violence. A total of 494 Bru families have been verified and they are confirmed as the genuine residents of Mizoram state. They would also be provided rice free of cost for one year. The people of the Bru community were displaced from Mizoram following ethnic conflicts with the Mizos in 1997 and since then they were sheltered in six camps at Kanchanpur in North Tripura district of Tripura state.
Female genital mutilation, the excision of the clitoris practised widely in African and many Muslim countries, is a means for men to maintain control of women and must be eradicated, U.N. human rights chief Navi Pillay said on Monday.
Even if a current global campaign against the practice, dubbed FGM continued at its current level of success, it would be 60 years until the total of well over 125 million women and girls now affected was reduced by half, she said.
The traditional practice, often justified as a means of suppressing a woman's sexual desire and so preventing "immoral" behavior, "represents a way to exercise control over women," said the former South African High Court judge.
The U.N. children's agency UNICEF says the 125 million plus figure of girls and women applies to the 29 countries with the highest prevalence rates. Many are in precarious health as a result of the operation.
As of last year, according to UNICEF, 98 percent of women and girls in Somalia were victims of FGM - often carried out by other female family members with no medical training. In Guinea the figure was 96 percent and in Egypt 91 percent.
Montana wildlife officials on Monday released a short list of five entities that could receive bison from Yellowstone National Park under an experimental program to establish new herds of the animals.
The roughly 145 bison have been held in recent years on behalf of the state at a Bozeman-area ranch owned by philanthropist Ted Turner. They were captured from the park in 2005 and 2006, put into quarantine and tested repeatedly to make sure they don't have the disease brucellosis, which can lead to miscarriages in livestock if the disease is spread.
Ten entities have expressed interested in receiving the animals. That was narrowed to five proposals based on guidance from a panel of state, federal and tribal officials that met last week, said Ron Aasheim, spokesman for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
No deadline has been set for a final decision. Aasheim said the state has been asked to move the animals off Turner's ranch by November.
