Right now, the bad old days when it wasn't that easy to move lots of money across borders are looking pretty good.

Paul Krugman: Attacking Success (New York Times)
OK, this is rich. Or actually, it's anti-rich. Or anti-rich liberal. Or something. Anyway, Jonathan Chait informs us that the right-wing blogosphere is all-aTwitter over the fact that Matthew Yglesias just bought a nice condo. Apparently this is hypocritical because you can't be a liberal and own private property, or something.

Tom Rosshirt: Traditional Marriage (Creators Syndicate)
Twelve years ago, two gay friends of mine had just taken their seats on a plane in Texas to bring home their newly adopted baby girl, when a man wearing a cowboy hat, boots and a shiny belt buckle came walking down the aisle. He stopped beside the two dads and their daughter and signaled that he was in the window seat beside them.

Henry Rollins: The Steubenville Rape Case Is a Failure (LA Weekly)
Some might say that the two teenagers going to the youth facility are as much victims as the young women who was assaulted. I do not agree. The two are offenders. What they did was obviously wrong. That being said, we cannot end the discussion at that point and expect things to change.

Jay Leno and I go way back. One of my fondest memories is of Jay chasing me around the parking lot of the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles. I always tell people that I thought of the Bel-Air, which I could still afford in those days (long long ago), as more a sanitarium than a hotel. You know how in L.A. your waiter has probably written a screenplay or two? At the Bel-Air, one of the parking attendants had actually starred in an ABC network series several years earlier! He played a wolf-boy.

Trivia Question of the Day

What is the usual date given for the "birth" of Vaudeville?

Trivia Question from Yesterday

A timeless classic of show business, "Slowly I Turned" is the most common name associated with a popular vaudeville sketch. It is also referred to as, variously, "The Stranger with a Kind Face" by clowns and clowning aficionados, and "Niagara Falls" by fans of The Three Stooges and Abbott and Costello. By what name do the fans of I Love Lucy know this routine?

Congo Visit

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is meeting with women and girls in eastern Congo, where sexual violence is rampant.

Jolie, a special envoy for the U.N. refugee agency, traveled to the Nzulo camp near Goma on Monday along with British Foreign Secretary William Hague.

The International Rescue Committee says it's provided care to more than 2,500 women and girls who have been raped or abused over the last year alone. The IRC is handing out kits with flashlights and whistles, as well as cleaning products so that women can avoid bathing at creeks where the risk of assault is higher.

Sexual violence is frequently used as a weapon of war by rebel groups that operate in eastern Congo, as well as by Congolese soldiers.

Rupert, Ridley, & O'Really Team Up

'Killing Jesus'

Just in time for Easter - when Christians worldwide will celebrate the resurrection of their savior Jesus Christ - the National Geographic Channel has announced that it is producing a film devoted to his death.

National Geographic Channel said Monday that it's teaming with Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions to adapt the upcoming novel "Killing Jesus: A History."

The book, by Fox News Channel personality Bill O'Reilly and writing partner Martin Dugard, will be published September 24. The film version will air globally on National Geographic Channels next year.

Billed as a "factual drama," the film and book will tell the story of Jesus "as a beloved and controversial young revolutionary brutally killed by Roman soldiers and recounting the seismic political and historical events that made his death inevitable and the changes that his life brought upon the world for the centuries to follow."

Show Moves To March

2014 Oscars

Next year's Academy Awards ceremony - the highlight of the annual movie awards season - will be held on March 2, a week later than normal, so as not to clash with the Winter Olympics in Russia in February, organizers said on Monday.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also announced a February 22 date for the 2015 Oscar ceremony and said both awards shows will be televised live as usual by ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The Winter Olympics are to be held in Sochi, Russia, from February 7-23, forcing several of Hollywood's big awards shows to shift their traditional dates to avoid a clash with blanket TV coverage of the games.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, one of the key ceremonies ahead of the Oscars, has already announced that its 2014 ceremony will move back from the end of January to January 18.

The Golden Globes ceremony, Hollywood's second biggest awards show, has for the past 10 years taken place in Beverly Hills in mid-January but organizers have yet to announce a date for the 2014 show.

Pleads No Contest

James Cromwell

Actor James Cromwell has pleaded no contest to disrupting a University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents meeting last month while protesting cat experiments at the school.

The 73-year-old Cromwell and another activist, 27-year-old Jeremy Beckham, were charged with disorderly conduct following the meeting on the UW-Madison campus Feb. 7.

Both men held large signs showing a cat with metal implanted in its head at a campus lab while shouting about the treatment of cats.

Cromwell's attorney, Marcus Jens Berghahn, entered no contest pleas on both men's behalf Monday. A court commissioner ordered each to pay $263 in forfeitures and costs.

Script Missing

'Breaking Bad'

A man accused of breaking into "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston's car late last year and stealing a script for the popular television show set in New Mexico has been arrested, authorities said Monday.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's officials said Xavier Macafee, 29, was being held on suspicion of burglary.

Deputy Aaron Williamson, a spokesman for the sheriff's department, said none of the stolen items have been recovered but detectives were investigating the case.

He said other items reported taken from Cranston's car were an iPad, a shoulder bag and "miscellaneous personal items."

Cranston's car was broken into Dec. 20 while it was parked at Sandia Peak, authorities said.

New Channel

Sirius XM

Sirius XM has struck a deal to carry a new channel produced by Glenn Beck's media company 'theBlaze', featuring conservative talk shows and news programming that begins airing on Monday.

The new channel is the latest effort by Beck, a former Fox News talk show host, to expand his media company which has its roots on the Internet. The channel, dubbed "theBlaze Radio Network", will be available to Sirius XM's nearly 24 million subscribers.

Beck, 49, is known for his conservative leanings and making inflammatory remarks. He has a strong following on radio and signed a $100 million radio deal with Premiere Networks last June.

The Sirius XM channel will carry Beck's show as well as talk shows by other conservative personalities such as Jay Severin and Doc Thompson. The company will provide hourly news updates on Sirius XM's conservative news network, which is a separate channel. Financial terms of the agreement with Sirius XM were not disclosed.

Historic Ship Short On Funds, Time

SS United States

The SS United States is sending out what may be its final distress call.

The 990-foot-long ship could be sold for scrap within two months unless the grassroots preservation group that's working to secure a home and purpose for it can raise $500,000 immediately, the group told The Associated Press. Talks are under way with developers and investors about the ship's long-term future, but without the emergency funding, its caretakers fear they will run out of money before a deal is inked.

The historic ocean liner carried princes and presidents across the Atlantic in the 1950s and 1960s but has spent decades patiently awaiting a savior at its berth on the Philadelphia waterfront.

"We've made progress on the fundraising side and the redevelopment side," said Susan Gibbs, executive director of the SS United States Conservancy and granddaughter of the ship's Philadelphia-born designer, William Francis Gibbs. "Our immediate goal is to buy some time."

The group has raised $1 million through fundraisers and a website, where contributors can sponsor a piece of the ship for $1 per square foot, but has received no public funding. What is desperately and immediately needed, they said, are donors with deep pockets and high profiles.

MTV will celebrate 30 years of the VMAs this year. From Kanye West and Taylor Swift to the Madonna-Britney Spears-Christina Aguilera kiss, the show has become known more for its pop culture moments than the winners of its signature moonman trophies.

Marks 40 Years

'Young and Restless'

Love, loss, breakups, makeups, murder, mayhem, backstabbing, social climbing. Forget about a lifetime, that's just an afternoon on "The Young and the Restless."

The CBS show, daytime's top-rated soap since December 1988, hits the big 4-0 on Tuesday.

No one from its debut on March 26, 1973 - when it was just 30 minutes long - remains with the show, but Jeanne Cooper arrived six months later and is the longest-tenured cast member in her role as grand dame Katherine Chancellor.

"God knows it's claimed a big part of my life," the 84-year-old actress said, citing good writing and likable characters as reasons for the show's continued success in an era of dwindling daytime audiences, network budget-cutting and the cancellation of other soaps.

Photo Collection To Auction

Hollywood

Tens of thousands of photographs and negatives from a large collection of Hollywood images will be sold during a two-day auction in New York next month, Guernsey's auction house said on Monday.

The Movie Star News Collection, which photographer Irving Klaw started in 1939 after striking a deal with film studios, includes nearly three million posters, negatives and photos of stars. They include Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Rudolph Valentino, Judy Garland, Steve McQueen, Charlie Chaplin and Audrey Hepburn, among others.

Some 1,900 lots of photos and film memorabilia will go under the hammer on April 6 and 7. Pre-sale estimates range from $60 to $100 for some of the pictures to as much as $10,000 for a pair of high-heel shoes worn by model Betty Page, known as the "Queen of Pin-Ups."

The collection includes original Movie Star News signs and pictures from movie sets of "The Wizard of Oz," "King Kong" and "The Godfather" as well as 600 photographs of Monroe.

It is being sold by Stuart Scheinman, a co-owner of the Las Vegas-based Entertainment Collectibles, who bought the collection last year from Ira Kramer, Klaw's nephew.

Welcome!

You have reached the Home page of BartCop Entertainment.
Make yourself home, take your shoes off...
Go ahead, scratch it if it itches.

The idea is to have fun.

Do you have something to say?
Anything that increased your blood pressure, or, even better, amused or entertained?

Do you have a great album no one's heard?
How about a favorite TV show, movie, book, play, cartoon, or legal amusement?
A popular artist that just plain pisses you off?
A box set the whole world should own?
Vile, filthy rumors about Republican hypocrites?
Just plain vile, filthy rumors?

In other words, submissions are welcome.
