Oliver Emberton: Life is a game.
This is your strategy guideYou might not realise, but real life is a game of strategy. There are some fun mini-games - like dancing, driving, running, and sex - but the key to winning is simply managing your resources.
David Bruce: Wise Up! Clothing (Athens News)
Some punk rockers dressed very well - in clothes they found in the garbage. Debbie Harry of Blondie once posed for a poster early in her career while wearing a zebra-stripe dress. Before it became a dress, it was a zebra-stripe pillowcase that someone had put in the garbage. Ms. Harry says, "New York has gorgeous garbage sometimes. Leather jackets, suits, and boots could be found in excellent condition."

They have received ten Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Best Original Score and are the best-selling band in history, with sales of over 600 million records worldwide. What is the name of this group?
The Beatles were an English rock band that formed in Liverpool, in 1960. With John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the greatest and most influential act of the rock era. Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways.
According to the RIAA, the Beatles are the best-selling band in the United States, with 177 million certified units. They have had more number-one albums on the British charts and sold more singles in the UK than any other act. In 2008, the group topped Billboard magazine's list of the all time most successful "Hot 100" artists; as of 2014, they hold the record for most number-one hits on the Hot 100 chart with 20. They have received ten Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Best Original Score and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. Collectively included in Time magazine's compilation of the 20th century's 100 most influential people, they are the best-selling band in history, with estimate sales of over 600 million records worldwide.

My Favorite, but always makes me tear up...
PS: Yesterday, a neighbor came over and had to chip out my back door (frozen shut since the last storm), so I could get out to the detached garage and my bottled water - which was frozen solid...

Considering the timing of this question it must be The Beatles, but I didn't know they had an Oscar.

The Beatles. I liked the Stones better in the beginning and then something got real trippy with those guys and their music and the peoples trippiness around the tunes grew and then they magically turned into the best band ever and Fuck Katy Perry for butchering babies (not) Yesterday!
Fangirl Lois Of Oregon said:
Gonna take a wild guess and say "The Beatles". Hey, does
anyone remember when they heard their first Beatles song
ever and what it was? Probably not. But I remember the first
on I hated. I was 10 years old in July 1965, we were
visiting people in Wichita, Kansas and their kids had a
transistor radio, an unheard of luxury in my usual circle
friends. "Nowhere Man" came on and I thought, what a stupid,
depressing song about a loser. Why would they make a song
like that? Much, much later I grew up and understood why.
Who's your favorite Beatle? Mine's John Lennon! What's your
favorite Beatle Album? Mine's Yellow Submarine!
Speaking of Disney, heard "The Lone Ranger" was horrible, so
we rented it and watched it twice this weekend trying to
understand why it flopped. Richard and I really enjoyed it.
Lot's of laughs. Johnny Depp was great, as usual. Lot's of
violence, HUGE head count! It did put "The White Man" in a
bad light, though (in other words it was too accurate). Two
thumbs up!

I do declare, the answer to today's BARTCOP E trivia question from Marty is THE BEATLES.
I know I contributed my share to their sales. Around 2001 I began buying all the Beatles' cd's in chronological order, one every payday. I never regretted that decision. I recently picked up the newest remasters box set, and I tell ya, that's the way to go. It sounds so much better than my older cd's.
My favorite Beatles' album is "LOVE", which was mixed by the main Beatles producer, George Martin, many long years after the Beatles' breakup.
I recently obtained the 'ANTHOLOGY' video series. It was incredibly entertaining.
Yeah, yeah, YEAH! BEATLES!!

Johnny Carson had Doc Severinsen. David Letterman has Paul Shaffer. Conan O'Brien had Max Weinberg. And Seth Meyers will have Fred Armisen?
Meyers, set to take over NBC's regular "Late Night" franchise at 12:35 a.m. starting February 24, will be joined by a band led by Armisen. The two had overlapping tenures at "Saturday Night Live." Meyers, who started with the show in 2001, left the program after its most recent live broadcast, while Armisen joined in 2002 and left in 2013.
"Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting 'Portlandia,'" Meyers said on Twitter Monday.
While Armisen is arguably best known as a comic and actor, he has a long tenure as a musician, having played drums for the punk-rock band Trenchmouth before starting a career in comedy. One of his first characters to break big on "Saturday Night Live" was Fericito, a Venezuelan nightclub comedian who used the line "I'm jus' keeeeding!" Armisen's final sketch on "SNL" included such musical pals as Aimee Mann as well as Kim Gordon, best known from her days with Sonic Youth.

Activists took to a piano perched on Kiev's most famous anti-government barricade Monday, playing Chopin, the national anthem and the Beatles' "Let it Be" as riot police looked on.
Eurovision song contest winner Ruslana joined others in gently stroking the instrument -- painted in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag -- as it sat delicately poised on a barrier separating protesters from police.
Stationed on the other side of the grimy mound of debris, compiled of bags of snow and burnt cars, riot officers sought to rival the musical offensive with one of their own, cranking up the volume of a sound system from which Russian pop songs blared out.
Ukraine has been riven by chaos since November when the authorities rejected a key EU trade pact in favour of closer ties with Russia, stunning pro-Western parts of the population who rose up in protest.
"The piano has become the symbol of the revolution, of peaceful resistance," said Markiyan Matsekh, an activist who initiated the musical campaign.
Michael Smerconish is joining CNN as host of a new weekly program that will air live on Saturday mornings.
Smerconish, who worked most recently as an MSNBC contributor and guest-host for "Hardball with Chris Matthews," will also provide analysis and opinion on CNN throughout the week. He joins the network this month.
Smerconish will continue hosting his radio show "The Michael Smerconish Program" on SiriusXM Radio and writing a weekly column for the "Philadelphia Inquirer."
"I've long wanted to host a program of my own and I'm appreciative of Jeff Zucker for making that dream a reality," he said. "I think the type of content I seek to provide is perfectly suited for CNN's non-ideological brand."

Canadian comedy stars Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara are set to reunite in a new series for CBC-TV.
The CBC and Not A Real Company Productions Inc. say the former "SCTV" stars will headline an "audacious" half-hour comedy show called "Schitt's Creek."
Levy will star as a recently broke video store billionaire named Johnny Rose while O'Hara will play his soap star wife, Moira.
Comedy star Chris Elliott will play the mayor of Schitt's Creek, which is owned by Johnny and Moira.
Levy created the 13-episode series with his TV personality son, Dan, who will also be featured on the show as Johnny's "uber hipster" son.
Many experts believe online wagering is the future of gambling, but the casino industry is increasingly divided on the issue.
The latest evidence of the split came Monday as the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling launched the first commercial in a six-figure campaign warning of the dangers of legalized Internet gambling. The coalition is emphasizing the possibility that criminals and terrorists may use online gambling to launder money.
The group has support from casino mogul Sheldon Adelson (R-Newt's Uncle Sugar), CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp. The GOP mega-donor is the 11th-richest American, according to Forbes.
Adelson has said he is willing to spend "whatever it takes" to stop the spread of Internet wagering.
Meanwhile, the casino lobby has made the legalization and regulation of online gambling its signature issue for the year. Major members including Caesars Entertainment Corp. and MGM Resorts International are taking steps to get into the market.

A Los Angeles newscaster apologized to Samuel L. Jackson on Monday for confusing him with fellow actor Laurence Fishburne during a live TV interview.
KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin was interviewing Jackson on Monday morning about the film "RoboCop" when he asked the actor if he'd gotten a lot of reaction to his recent Super Bowl commercial.
When Jackson asked, "What Super Bowl commercial?" Rubin realized his mistake and began to apologize. But it was too late.
"You're as crazy as the people on Twitter," an animated Jackson, who was doing the interview by satellite from Atlanta, told Rubin. "I'm not Laurence Fishburne. We don't all look alike. We may be all black and famous but we don't all look alike."
"I'm the 'What's in Your Wallet,' black guy," he said of his own commercial for a credit-card company. "He's the car black guy. "Morgan Freeman is the other credit-card black guy. You only hear his voice, though, so you probably won't confuse him with Laurence Fishburne."
A controversial plan in Spain to scrap easy access to abortions took centre stage at the country's equivalent of the Oscars, with several actresses slamming the reform as they accepted their prizes.
"I don't want anyone to decide for me," Natalia de Molina said late Sunday as she collected the prize for best new actress for her role in "Living is Easy with Eyes Closed".
The movie, about a small-town schoolmaster who teaches his pupils English during the Franco dictatorship by playing them Beatles songs, also won the best prize and best director statues at the Goya awards in Madrid.
"I want to dedicate my this to all women who fight for our rights," said Marian Alvarez after she picked up the Goya for best actress for her role as an ambulance driver in "Wounded".
If the law is adopted, Spain would be the first country in the 28-member European Union to reverse legalising abortion.
Lost for centuries, a rare bronze statue of the Greek god Apollo has mysteriously resurfaced in the Gaza Strip, only to be seized by police and vanish almost immediately from view.
Word of the remarkable find has caught the imagination of the world of archaeology, but the police cannot say when the life-sized bronze might re-emerge or where it might be put on display.
A local fisherman says he scooped the 500-kg god from the sea bed last August, and carried it home on a donkey cart, unaware of the significance of his catch.
Others soon guessed at its importance, and the statue briefly appeared on Ebay with a $500,000 price tag - well below its true value. Police from the Islamist group Hamas, who rule the isolated Palestinian territory, swiftly seized it and say they are investigating the affair.
To their great frustration, archaeologists have not been able to get their hands on the Apollo, and instead must pore over a few blurred photographs of the intact deity, who is laid out incongruously on a blanket emblazoned with Smurfs.

It was care fit for a king: The yellowing parchment was fitted inside a custom-designed aluminum and steel case with monitors, then wrapped in specially made packaging. Once it was on the plane, a canon chancellor nervously tracked the flight as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
That document, a rarely seen copy of the Magna Carta, had never before left England's shores and only once been outside its home in the Hereford Chapel near the Welsh border. Now, the famous charter, written nearly 800 years ago and considered one of the most important documents in the history of democracy, is safely ensconced in the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, where it will be part of an exhibit that opens Friday.
"A very historic flight for us, and the cathedral and the document," said Glyn Morgan, chief executive of the Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust, who accompanied the document on its journey and is helping ensure it is properly cared for during its stay in Houston.
It will be on display for six months before being whisked back for a celebration of its 800th anniversary.
Australian astronomers on Sunday said they had found a star 13.6 billion years old, making it the most ancient star ever seen.
The star was formed just a couple of hundred million years after the Big Bang that brought the Universe into being, they believe.
Previous contenders for the title of oldest star are around 13.2 billion years old -- two objects described by European and US teams respectively in 2007 and 2013.
Stefan Keller at the Australian National University in the Australian capital, Canberra, said the Methuselah star is -- in cosmic terms -- relatively close to us.
It lies in our own galaxy, the Milky Way, at a distance of around 6,000 light years from Earth. The star catalogues list it by the number of SMSS J031300.36-670839.3.
Kenyan gays and lesbians and others supporting their cause wear masks to preserve their anonymity as they stage a rare protest, against Uganda's increasingly tough stance against homosexuality and in solidarity with their counterparts there, outside the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. Homosexuality has been criminalized in Uganda where lawmakers have recently passed a new bill, which appears to have wide support among Ugandans, that prescribes life imprisonment for "aggravated" homosexual acts.

It's yet to go mainstream a la AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO), but the Brony culture (grown men who love "My Little Pony") is a growing phenomenon. Still, there may be some who don't understand the term, folks who may be wondering what makes a man a Brony.
A fair question, and one that CBS-Sacramento's Tony Lopez did his best to answer in a recent news report. The world of "My Little Pony" (TV show, toys, stuffed animals, etc.) traditionally appeals to young girls. But Bronies aren't afraid of pursuing their hobby, no matter what the haters say.
One member of the fan club told Lopez that he likes the "My Little Pony" storyline because, "It's fun and it's sweet, and it's a strong moral thing. I think more people could benefit from it if they gave it more of a chance."
It appears that more and more people are giving it a chance. A 2013 expo in Baltimore called (what else?) BronyCon drew thousands of passionate Bronies who walked the walk and talked the talk.
