Trivia Question of the Day

What early TV program billed itself as "the nursery school of the air"?

Trivia Question from Yesterday

What was the name of the substitute teacher who filled in for Sister Rosetta Stone at "Our Lady of 115th Street"?

   Sister Mary Elephant                                                      Source

Sister Mary Elephant is a comedy skit by Cheech and Chong. The recording was released as a single in 1973 and climbed to #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1974. It was also included on Cheech and Chong's second album, Big Bambu, released in 1972.

The title character is an exceedingly prissy, monotone nun substitute teacher (voiced by Cheech) teaching in a parochial school ("Our Lady of 115th Street") classroom of exceedingly irreverent, noisy teenage boys (voiced by Cheech and Chong through overdubbing). She attempts to teach the class, but the boys totally ignore her. She then tries to get the boys' attention by speaking increasingly loudly, to no avail, and then finally screams, "SHUDD-UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!" at the top of her lungs, in startling contrast to her usually placid manner. She follows this with a once again prissy "Thank you". This becomes a running joke throughout the skit.

Sister Mary Elephant announces that she is the substitute for their regular teacher, Sister Rosetta Stone, who has sent her love and the artwork she is making: fingerpaintings and dustcloths, indicating that she has likely been institutionalized.        Source

I will go over there tonight, because we have to leave about 7 AM to get into the city, and get a good spot for the viewing - although the parade starts at 11 AM, NYC time...

Form Rights Group

Fashion Models

Fashion models in the United States launched a rights group on Monday ahead of New York Fashion Week to seek workplace standards including backstage privacy to stop unauthorized nude photos and a program to provide confidential advice on dealing with sexual harassment.

Model Sara Ziff, 29, ho has worked since she was 14, founded the nonprofit Model Alliance because she said she has seen the fashion industry disregard child labor laws, evade financial transparency and tolerate sexual abuse in the workplace.

"Most models start their adult careers as minors and they labor in an unregulated business knowing that they are highly replaceable," Ziff said in a statement.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) said it had offered Ziff advice in starting the group. "Change comes from action and the Model Alliance can be a catalyst for change," said CFDA chief executive Steven Kolb.

Maine's Mustache Film Festival

2012 Stache Pag

Move over, Cannes. Maine will be playing host to its first-ever international mustache film festival, part of its annual pageant that celebrates the bristly facial hair.

The festival set for March 30 in Portland will feature short films with storylines that involve mustaches or a main character who wears a mustache, said Nick Callanan, head of No Umbrella Media, a video production company organizing the event.

The idea for the mustache film festival, believed to be the first of its kind, grew out of an annual mustache pageant held locally to benefit arts and cancer research organizations, he said.

This year's 2012 Stache Pag will feature contestants wearing all manner of mustaches, from handlebars to horseshoes, Callanan said. There are also the walrus and Fu Manchu styles, he said.

To be considered for the festival, films must be eight minutes or less and have a mustache theme or a main character with a mustache. Callanan said he has received submissions from as far away as Norway.

Joins Barbie In Iran Ban

Bart Simpson

The Simpsons are corroding the morals of Iranian youth, an official said on Monday, as dolls based on Bart, Homer and the rest of the American cartoon family joined the shapely Barbie among Western toys targeted by a new crackdown in Tehran.

"The Simpsons dolls are merchandise from an animated series, of which some episodes are even banned in Europe and America," Mohammad Hossein Farjoo, whose agency oversees what Iranian children can play with, told the Sharq newspaper. He did not elaborate on what episodes might have been censored elsewhere.

"We do not want to promote this cartoon by importing the toys," added Farjoo, whose full title is Secretary for Policy-making at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in Tehran.

The Islamic Republic's morality police, fighting "Western intoxication" as the dispute over nuclear technology has raised fears of war, last month went on a drive against Barbie.

Drinkers Benefit

Green Tea

Elderly adults who regularly drink green tea may stay more agile and independent than their peers over time, according to a Japanese study that covered thousands of people.

Green tea contains antioxidant chemicals that may help ward off the cell damage that can lead to disease. Researchers have been studying green tea's effect on everything from cholesterol to the risk of certain cancers, with mixed results so far.

For the new study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers decided to examine the question of whether green tea drinkers have a lower risk of frailty and disability as they grow older.

Yasutake Tomata of the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and his colleagues followed nearly 14,000 adults aged 65 or older for three years.

They found those who drank the most green tea were the least likely to develop "functional disability," or problems with daily activities or basic needs, such as dressing or bathing.

Internet Giants Pull Content

India

Internet giants Google Inc and Facebook removed content from some Indian domain websites on Monday following a court directive warning them of a crackdown "like China" if they did not take steps to protect religious sensibilities.

The two are among 21 companies ordered to develop a mechanism to block material considered religiously offensive after private petitioners took them to court over images deemed offensive to Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

Two cases have been brought by individuals against internet companies in India, stoking fears about censorship in the world's largest democracy.

At the heart of the dispute is a law that India passed last year making companies responsible for user content posted on their websites, and giving them 36 hours to take down content if there is a complaint.

Last month, the companies said it was not possible for them to block content. Google's Roy Chowdhury declined to comment on what had since been removed, and a Facebook representative said only that the company would release a statement later.

Crook Gets Ethics

Jack Abramoff

Jack Abramoff, the former lobbyist at the center of a U.S. bribery scandal six years ago, said on Monday he does not want to publicly identify former associates because he does not want to see more people hurt.

In 2006, Abramoff pleaded guilty to fraud and bribery-related charges. He spent four years in prison, away from his wife and five children.

"I can't be the agent of doing that to someone else. I can't be the agent of sending someone to prison," Abramoff said at an event hosted by Public Citizen, a consumer group in Washington.

Abramoff has been on a media tour since November, appearing at Harvard Law School, selling a book, and proposing a television show. He has spoken with nonprofits such as the Sunlight Foundation and Public Citizen to try to ban some of the lobbying methods he practiced.

He has proposed prohibiting congressional staff members from going to work as lobbyists and banning campaign contributions from those seeking to influence the government.

Woman Accused Of Blackmailing TLC Show

The Duggars

An Iowa woman is charged with extortion in an alleged plot to get Discovery Communications Inc. to cancel the TLC show "19 Kids and Counting" or pay her $10,000 in exchange for not revealing compromising photos of a cast member, according to federal court documents.

Teresa Hunt, of Bettendorf, is accused of threatening to release photos of a cast member in "apparently intimate situations" to a magazine.

Hunt was arrested Feb. 1 after she apparently sent television executives typed and handwritten letters demanding the show be canceled, along with a business card for "Perfect Pictures."

The reality show follows Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (R-Every Sperm Is Sacred) and their 19 children.

The letter was sent in January to the parent company of LTC describing Hunt's professional relationship with a 56-year-old musician who performs in Branson, Mo., and providing details of an affair with an unspecified female cast member, according to an affidavit in U.S. District Court in Davenport.

Arrested For Public Intoxication

Randy Travis

Country singer Randy Travis has apologized after being arrested on a charge of public intoxication outside a North Texas church.

Denton County sheriff's spokesman Tom Reedy says police in the town of Sanger arrested Travis early Monday after spotting a vehicle parked in front of a church and finding an open bottle of wine and Travis smelling of alcohol.

Reedy says Travis, whose hits include "Forever and Ever, Amen," was brought to the Denton County jail about 1:30 a.m. and released six hours later.

The singer, who lives in the small town of Tioga near Sanger, apologized in a statement to The Associated Press "for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl."

'M-A-S-H' Hot Dog Diner In New Hands

Tony Packo's

A hot dog eatery made famous on the TV series "M-A-S-H" has been sold after a yearlong family feud over ownership.

Representatives of a private restaurant group in Toledo said Monday they have finalized their $5.5 million purchase of the Tony Packo's chain, whose future had been in doubt since a bank foreclosed on its loans and a court-appointed third party was put in charge.

The new owners said they plan to keep some members of the Packo family on board, including the founder's grandson who is facing charges of stealing from the business.

Actor Jamie Farr, a Toledo native, made Tony Packo's famous in the 1970s when he portrayed a homesick U.S. soldier in the Korean War who longed for the eatery's hot dogs.

Packo's was mentioned in six of the 250 episodes of "M-A-S-H" and continues to draw tourists even though the show ended its run three decades ago.

Doesn't Get It

Pete Hoekstra

Clint Eastwood's Super Bowl commercial heralding Detroit's comeback may have been the most talked about spot when it aired just after halftime Sunday night. But a local ad paid for by Michigan Republican Pete Hoekstra's U.S. Senate campaign is drawing plenty of day-after attention from the national media after several groups have called it racially insensitive.

The ad, which ran statewide during the Super Bowl, features a young Asian woman riding a bike through a field of rice paddies and speaking broken English while thanking Hoekstra's opponent, Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, for her "reckless spending."

"Thank you, Michigan Senator Debbie Spenditnow," the woman says. "Debbie spends so much American money. You borrow more and more from us. Your economy get very weak. Ours get very good. We take your jobs. Thank you, Debbie Spenditnow."

On Twitter, Time magazine columnist and GOP consultant Mike Murphy called the 30-second spot "really, really dumb."

Jungle Adventurers Solve WWII Mysteries

Malaysia

They trek for days through crocodile-infested swamps and up rain-lashed mountain jungles, but the members of the Malaya Historical Group are not seeking treasure or ancient artefacts. Instead, they're after rusty wreckage.

Over the past decade, the six amateur Malaysian military historians have helped locate the confirmed or suspected crash sites of 30 World War II aircraft -- helping bring closure for the families of more than 40 missing British and American air crews.

Nearly 70 years after the end of the war, at least 100 British and American aircraft wrecks are believed scattered across the jungles of India, Thailand and Malaysia, along with the remains of their crews.

Guided by whatever, often sketchy, information is available from a flight's last location, the group's members search likely areas on treks that take several days, often in dense jungle.

Once found, sites are left undisturbed but meticulously photographed and the pictures are uploaded to their website, mhg.mymalaya.com.

Welcome!

You have reached the Home page of BartCop Entertainment.
Make yourself home, take your shoes off...
Go ahead, scratch it if it itches.

The idea is to have fun.

Do you have something to say?
Anything that increased your blood pressure, or, even better, amused or entertained?

Do you have a great album no one's heard?
How about a favorite TV show, movie, book, play, cartoon, or legal amusement?
A popular artist that just plain pisses you off?
A box set the whole world should own?
Vile, filthy rumors about Republican hypocrites?
Just plain vile, filthy rumors?
This is your place.

In other words, submissions are welcome.
