Mark Morford: Scared white guys spur Black Friday gun sales to record high (SF Gate)
Upwards of 175,000 requests for background checks over Black Friday, the FBI says, which is about three requests per second, which is triple the norm but still just behind December 21, 2012, right after the Sandy Hook massacre, when gun sales freakishly skyrocketed. Because nothing says "We need to come together to stop all the gun deaths" than stocking up on bullets in case the scary black president comes to take away your Glock.
S Peter Davis: 5 Seemingly Sane Celebrities With Bizarre Paranormal Beliefs (Cracked)
We expect our famous people to be a little bit crazy, because money and fame mess with your head in ways science can barely comprehend. Still, there's a difference between those who, say, think the government staged the 9/11 attacks and those who live their lives in fear of being raped by witches. Which brings us to ...
Timon and Pumbaa are an animated meerkat and warthog duo introduced in Disney's popular 1994 animated film The Lion King.
Timon is a wise-cracking and self-absorbed meerkat who is known for claiming Pumbaa's ideas as his own, while Pumbaa has flatulence issues. However, Pumbaa is also a fierce warrior, charging into battle like a battering ram, and taking great offense if anyone who's not his friend calls him a pig, at which point he exclaims "They call me Mister pig!"-a reference to Sidney Poitier's line "They call me Mister Tibbs!" from the 1967 film In the Heat of the Night.
Based on the characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern from Hamlet, Timon and Pumbaa are played by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella.

I haven't seen the movie - I don't know how, since my kids know it well - so not only do I not know the plot, I also had no idea that it was based on Hamlet.
Guess I'll have to check it out.
And I don't know the answer, so I live in suspense until Thursday.
Kevin K. in Washington DC replied:
Well, any male duo must be based on: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
But we don't want to hear "Timon and Pumbaa are dead".
Dialectical Daleo of Stormy Springs, Norfuckincali responded:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, scoundrels that be! Hamlet discovers their duplicity and leaveth thems to croak.
DJ Useo answered:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, of course. Ahh, Hamlet. Now that's good drama!
See it live in person by professionals for a great performance. I know I did.
( btw- Disney added the farting, & bug-eating, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern didn't do those things, lol )

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern ~ Both pairs of characters in both works are provided as relief from the main focus of the stories. Timon and Pumbaa provide a welcome resort from his responisbilities and hauntings of his past by introducing him to the carefree life of "Hakuna Matata", while Rosencrantz and Guildenstern allow the audience to know that Prince Hamlet does enjoy a life outside of the royal house, mingling with fellow scholars-to-be and friends.

Well I recall the solo from "Can't ya hear me knockin'" on the same album (Sticky Fingers) as Brown Sugar, but after that song. I read the same blurb in my local rag and knew it was a mistake. There's only a slight riff in the coda for Brown Sugar, but an extended solo in 'Can't ya hear me...' There's also a good but small solo on 'Casino Boogie' from "Exile on Main Street".
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from

Kevin Arnold's green New York Jets jacket that he always wore in "The Wonder Years" is becoming a piece of history along with other items from the popular TV show.
Fred Savage, who played Arnold, his mother and other cast members from the show donated costumes, studio tapes, scripts and Polaroid photos from the show Tuesday to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
Savage says his mom likes to keep everything and had kept the jacket since the show ended in 1993. She would jokingly say the Smithsonian might want it one day. So he was surprised when the museum actually did want it.
Savage now directs TV shows including the hit, "Modern Family." He says "The Wonder Years" was special because it celebrated the achievements of everyday life.
KABC, one of the largest AM radio stations in Los Angeles, has parted ways with Larry Elder, one of the channel's most popular talk-show hosts.
The station, owned by Cumulus Media, declined to comment on Elder's departure, though insiders said advertising sales executives were blindsided by the decision and voiced their displeasure to a defensive Drew Hayes, KABC's operations director.
Elder, a sometimes controversial, always passionate and eloquent Libertarian, had been with KABC for about 20 years, though separated into multiple stints.
Beginning today, Elder said he will broadcast his show over the Internet at ElderStatement.com during his former KABC time slot, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A few of the residents at Judson Manor retirement community in Cleveland, Ohio, aren't quite retirement age yet.
Among the nearly 100 senior residents are a handful of young students from the Cleveland Institute of Music who live there rent-free in exchange for monthly musical performances.
The residents at Judson Manor told CBS News that, despite initial concerns about college students' lifestyles, the pairing of students and seniors has been a great one.
Outside of monthly concerts and daily meals, the students and seniors frequently have coffee together, sharing books, movies, music - and advice.
The conservative commentator Glenn Beck failed to persuade a federal judge to dismiss a defamation lawsuit by a Saudi Arabian student who Beck repeatedly accused of involvement in and being the "money man" behind the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
U.S. District Judge Patti Saris in Boston on Tuesday said Abdulrahman Alharbi's allegations "easily permit an inference" that Beck, his company The Blaze Inc, and a distributor of his radio show were negligent toward him over Beck's comments.
Alharbi, 21, had been a spectator near the marathon's finish line on April 15, 2013, suffering minor injuries when two homemade pressure-cooker bombs ripped through the crowd. He was later mentioned in news reports as federal authorities briefly investigated him, and quickly concluded he had no involvement.
The lawsuit claimed that Beck made repeated false statements about Alharbi on his radio show, including that he helped fund the bombing, even after the probe was dropped.
The case is Alharbi v. Beck et al, U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts, No. 14-11550.

Quick passage of a sweeping defense policy bill hit a snag on Wednesday over public lands, dividing Senate Republicans.
The $585 billion measure authorizing funds for the military includes several unrelated bills to expand wilderness areas in the West and expand the program streamlining oil and gas permits, a popular step with western state lawmakers.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Jesus Twin), objected to their inclusion and promised to block any attempt to quickly finish the bill next week in the final days of the lame-duck session.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Pissquik), Coburn's Oklahoma colleague and the top Republican on the Armed Service Committee, said he expected senators to work out their differences and pass the bill, which authorizes funds for ships, aircraft and military personnel while expanding U.S. military operations to counter Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

As climate change has accelerated, scientists have long believed that Canada's far north would serve as polar bears' last sanctuary.
No longer. New research from the University of Alberta has found that as their ice habitat disappears, polar bear populations in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago might be no better off than their southern counterparts.
The entire region's polar bear population could face starvation and reproductive failure by 2100, crossing the "point of no return," according to the study.
The new study, published in the journal PLOS One and led by University of Alberta professor Stephen Hamilton, looks at bears in the 550,000-square-mile region north of the Canadian mainland. The archipelago's narrow channels and 36,000-plus islands make it hard to obtain accurate readings of bear populations and sea ice levels.

The first ban on new hydraulic fracturing in Texas went into effect on Tuesday in the city of Denton, a month after voters deemed the oil and gas extraction method behind the U.S. energy boom a community nuisance.
The Texas Oil & Gas Association, an industry group, and the Texas General Land Office filed a lawsuit shortly after voters in the city of 123,000 approved the ban on Nov. 4. The lawsuit aims to allow the technique known as fracking, widely used in the top crude and natural gas producing state in the country.
Denton, a college town about 30 miles (50 kms) north of Dallas, sits atop the natural gas-rich Barnett shale formation, which stretches across 24 North Texas counties.
Fracking was pioneered in the Barnett and Exxon Mobil's XTO unit has been a significant operator here. Fracking mixes pressurized water, sand and chemicals to release hydrocarbons from rock.
Residents in Fort Worth, Denton and other cities above the Barnett, have been at odds with operators, who say the method is safe. Residents and environmental groups says it is noisy, pollutes underground aquifers and is responsible for a series of recent earthquakes to hit the area.

Ian McLagan, the keyboard player for English rock bands "Small Faces" and "Faces," died on Wednesday in Texas at the age of 69 due to complications from a stroke suffered the previous day, his official web page said.
As a member of Small Faces, McLagan was known for his distinctive Hammond Organ and Wurlitzer electric piano play in one of the most influential mod bands of the 1960s.
The band later changed its name to Faces and after it split up McLagan went on to tour and record with some of the biggest names in pop music, ranging from The Rolling Stones to country music great Lucinda Williams.
The Faces also included rock greats Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and singer Rod Stewart. The band scored hits in the United States and Great Britain in the 1970s with songs that included "Stay With Me."
McLagan moved to Austin, Texas about 20 years ago and formed the Bump Band. He was a fixture on local radio and the club circuit in a city dubbed "the live music capital of America."
McLagan was scheduled to start a U.S. tour on Wednesday, opening for his former label mate Nick Lowe, his website said.
