"Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is a record by singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie, released as the title track to his 1967 debut album Alice's Restaurant. It is notable as a satirical, first-person account of 1960s counterculture, in addition to being a hit song in its own right and an inspiration for the 1969 film, also named Alice's Restaurant. The song is Guthrie's most prominent work, based on a true incident from his life that began on Thanksgiving Day 1965 with a citation for littering, and ended with the refusal of the U.S. Army to draft him because of his conviction for that crime. The ironic punch line of the story is that, in the words of Guthrie, "I'm sittin' here on the Group W bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough to join the Army-burn women, kids, houses and villages-after bein' a litterbug." The final part of the song is an encouragement for the listeners to sing along, to resist the draft, and to end war.
The song consists of a protracted spoken monologue, with a constantly repeated fingerstyle ragtime guitar (Piedmont style) backing, bookended by a short chorus about the titular diner; Guthrie has used the short "Alice's Restaurant" bookends and guitar backings for other monologues bearing the Alice's Restaurant name. The track lasts 18 minutes and 34 seconds, occupying the entire A-side of the Alice's Restaurant album. The work has become Guthrie's signature song and he has periodically re-released it with updated lyrics.

So far so good on beating cancer for now. I'm doing fine. At the end of the month I'll be 16 months into an 8 month mean lifespan. And yesterday I went on a 7 mile hike and managed to keep up with the hiking group I was with. So, doing something right.
Still waiting for future test results and should see things headed in the right direction. I can say that it's not likely that anything dire happens in the short term so that means that I should have time to make several more attempts at this. So even if it doesn't work the first time there are a lot of variations to try. So if there's bad news it will help me pick the next radiation target.
I have written a "how to" guide for oncologists to perform the treatment that I got. I'm convinced that I'm definitely onto something and whether it works for me or not isn't the definitive test. I know if other people tried this that it would work for some of them, and if they improve it that it will work for a lot of them.
The guide is quite detailed and any doctor reading this can understand the procedure at every level. I also go into detail as to how it works, how I figured it out, and variations and improvements that could be tried to enhance it. I also introduce new ways to look at the problem. There is a lot of room for improvement and I think that doctors reading it will see what I'm talking about and want to build on it. And it's written so that if you're not a doctor you can still follow it. It also has a personal story revealing that I'm the class clown of cancer support group. I give great interviews and I look pretty hot in a lab coat.
So, feel free to read this and see what I'm talking about. But if any of you want to help then pass this around to both doctors and cancer patients. I need some media coverage. I'm looking for as many eyeballs as possible to read these ideas. Even if this isn't the solution, it's definitely on the right track. After all, I did hike 7 miles yesterday. And this hiking group wasn't moving slow. So if this isn't working then, why am I still here?
I also see curing cancer as more of an engineering problem that a medical problem. So if you are good at solving problems and most of what you know about medicine was watching the Dr. House MD TV show, then you're at the level I was at when I started. So anyone can jump in and be part of the solution.

The profound and fundamental changes currently being made to the internet are being done partly on the basis of hundreds of thousands of fake people, according to New York's attorney general.
This week, the Federal Communications Commission announced that it would repeal Obama-era protections that guaranteed net neutrality. That principle - which says that all traffic on the internet should be equal - will now be undermined, significantly changing how the internet works.
Now Eric Schneiderman has suggested a sinister, secret plot has been happening to support that decision. The FCC received an enormous number of messages from people that didn't actually send them, he said, and it's not clear who perpetrated the "massive scheme".
It's not clear how those identities were collected or spoofed, and who was behind it. And Mr Schneiderman said that the FCC - whose chairman explicitly supports the sweeping changes to the rules - is refusing to properly co-operate with any investigation into them.
Those messages are now being used to justify the changes, despite objections from across the country.
A Catholic school in Australia has covered up a statue of a saint giving a loaf of bread to a boy after complaints that it was too suggestive.
The statue of St. Martin de Porres at Blackfriars Priory School in suburban Adelaide shows the bread being held at crotch level as the smiling boy gazes up with a hand reaching for the loaf.
"The two-dimensional concept plans for the statue were viewed and approved by the Executive Team in May but upon arrival the three-dimensional statue was deemed by the Executive to be potentially suggestive," principal Simon Cobiac said in an apology posted on Facebook.
The statue was made in Vietnam, but a local sculptor has been hired to redesign it.
"It's hilarious. It's absolutely hilarious," a local artist, Driller Jet Armstrong, told 7 News Adelaide. "I love it. I love an art scandal." He was not involved in the design of the statue.
The Smithsonian Institution and the artist Christo were sued on Tuesday by a New York photographer who accused them of stealing credit for his photos of "Running Fence," a 1976 installation that remains one of Christo's best-known works.
Gianfranco Gorgoni said he never gave permission to use his copyrighted photos of the 24-mile (39 km) nylon-and-steel installation for a 2010 book, "Remembering the Running Fence," and film accompanying a Smithsonian exhibition.
Gorgoni said his photos had been used in a 1978 book "Christo: Running Fence," which called him the copyright owner.
But according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Christo sold the photos to the Smithsonian in 2007, and he and his wife Jeanne-Claude falsely told the institution that they held the copyrights.
Gorgoni, who retained the negatives, said he later tried unsuccessfully to negotiate a licensing arrangement with the defendants, whose websites name Christo as the copyright holder.
A lost 3,000-year-old castle has been discovered by divers and researchers in Turkey's Lake Van.
The spectacular ruins are thought to be those of a fortress built by the Uratu civilisation which flourished in the iron age between the 9th and 6th centuries BC.
The discovery was made by archaeologists from the Van Yüzüncü Yil University working with a team of divers.
In an interview with Turkey's newswire service Andalou Agency, underwater videographer and head of the diving team, Tahsin Ceylan explained that other divers and archaeologists familiar with the lake advised the team they were unlikely to find much in the water.
But they eventually found that the remarkable ruins are part of an extensive site which stretches roughly a kilometre. Despite being underwater for centuries, the height of the visible sections of the fortress's remaining walls range between 10 and 13 feet high.
A woman who plastered her car truck with a large "F*** Trump" sticker has said she is considering launching a lawsuit against the Texan Sheriff who arrested her after discovering the sign.
Troy Nehls, a Republican sheriff who serves an area southwest of Houston, penned a Facebook post calling for the driver of the vehicle displaying the "F*** Trump and f*** you for voting for him" sticker to turn themselves in.
He said the sticker was upsetting locals and there had been numerous calls regarding the "offensive display". Mr Nehls also claimed a prosecutor had informed him he could charge the driver with disorderly conduct.
Kate Fonesca, the driver of the stickered vehicle who used to work for Sheriff Nehls in the county jail, was arrested by him outside of Houston on an outstanding fraud warrant on Thursday.
Her husband, Mike Fonseca, said his wife was arrested at their home in front of their six-year-old daughter. "I think it's the sticker," he told a local ABC affiliate in an attempt to explain the reason for Ms Fonseca's arrest.
The leader of an anti-LGBT evangelical activist group has been accused of helping to cover up sexual assault allegations against a Republican politician.
Wes Goodman, the Republican state legislator for Ohio who pushed for "family values", resigned last week after being caught having sex with a man in his office.
Mr Goodman has also been accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man at a conference in 2015, allegedly unzipping his trousers and fondling him in a hotel room early in the morning.
The teenager's stepfather complained about the incident to Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, according to emails seen by The Washington Post.
"Trust me... this will not be ignored nor swept aside," Mr Perkins replied. "It will be dealt with swiftly, but with prudence."
However, the alleged assault was never made public, nor were unspecified "prior incidents" Mr Perkins referred to in a later letter to Mr Goodman.
Texas Congressman Joe Barton (R-Of Course) apologized on Wednesday after a nude photo of him circulated on social media.
Barton issued a statement saying that while separated from his second wife, prior to their divorce in 2015, he had sexual relationships "with other mature adult women." The 68-year-old Republican said each relationship was consensual and has since ended.
"I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down," Barton, the longest-serving member of Congress from Texas, said in a statement released to the media.
The photo appeared on an anonymous Twitter account. It was not immediately known who posted the photo or when it was taken. Barton didn't respond to phone message left Wednesday by The Associated Press at his offices in Texas seeking comment. The voicemail for his office in Washington was full.
Barton, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, announced his re-election bid this month. His district includes several counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Trump Organization has been paid to walk away from its prized Trump SoHo hotel, severing a management contract and ending the company's ties to the struggling Manhattan establishment.
A deal was reached on Wednesday in which CIM Group, the California-based investment company which owns the building, bought the Trump Organization out of the remainder of their contract to manage the hotel.
The buyout means that, at the end of December, the Trump Organization will walk away.
CIM will then be entitled to rebrand the hotel and try and turn its fortunes around.
In May the hotel was slashing its room rates and preparing to lay off staff. And, across the organisation, room rates at Trump hotels have fallen by 63 per cent since the election, it was reported this week.
A Wisconsin kindergartener is among the first youngsters to bag a buck under a new law that eliminates the state's minimum hunting age.
Lexie Harris, 6, is no stranger to the woods. Her dad, Tyler Harris, has taken her along on his hunts since she was 3. But, it wasn't until Gov. Scott Walker signed the new law on Nov. 12 that Lexie could legally shoot a deer.
Until then, a state resident had to be 12 years old to purchase a hunting license or hunt with a gun. Children as young as 10 could participate in the mentored hunt program. The new law lets anyone of any age participate in a mentored hunt and the mentor and student are each allowed carry their own weapon.
Harris bought his daughter a youth rifle, which is easier for her to handle and less powerful and has taken her to the shooting range to practice. He also attached a smartphone to the gun scope to make it easier to train the firearm on her target.
Lexie's grandmother, Karen Zubke, said she's glad her son believes his child doesn't have to be a boy to hunt.
