Brandon Drake: 5 Video Games That Humiliate You For Playing Like Crap (Cracked)
Death in most games produces nothing more than a "Game Over" screen and the immediate opportunity to try again (a feature that would be really nice to see patched into real life). But, a few game developers look down on their less skilled consumers with such disdain that they've devised special methods for making them feel like complete losers -- because why settle for momentary frustration when you can make total strangers feel like they're as big of a failure at enjoying an escapist fantasy as it's assumed they are in real life?
Born Joel Emmanuel Hägglund, this labor activist and songwriter coined the phrase "pie in the sky". He was also executed 100 years ago today (19 Nov., 1915). By what name is he better known?
Like the tomato, persimmons are not popularly considered to be berries, but in terms of botanical morphology the fruit is in fact a berry.

A persimmon is a berry. Had a tree in my back yard growing up. They tasted awful befour they were ripe. One of my Grandmothers (Ma Small) used to harvest them and make cookies, breads, jams and jellies. Not my favourite.

Ah, another horticulture/botany question I know: The persimmon, like the tomato, is botanically a berry.
I like them dried and in bread but not to eat just as they are.

A member of the band "Survivor" has sued Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign for allegedly violating the copyright of the 1980s' hit, "Eye of the Tiger."
A lawsuit filed in Chicago federal court Wednesday says the Republican's campaign played it at a Kentucky rally for a county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The song that featured in the movie "Rocky III" played as Kim Davis departed jail with the former Arkansas governor.
The suit says Frank M. Sullivan III is co-author of "Eye of the Tiger." It says his suburban Chicago company, Rude Music, Inc., holds the copyright.
The suit requests unspecified damages and that a judge order Huckabee's campaign to stop using the song.
Singer Carly Simon has revealed the mystery behind one of pop music's enduring puzzles: the inspiration for her 1972 hit "You're So Vain."
Simon says the caustic song about a self-absorbed lover is actually based on a composite of three of the men in her life around that time, and one of them is actor Warren Beatty.
"I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren," Simon told People magazine in an interview released on Wednesday pegged to her upcoming memoir, "Boys in the Trees."
Simon, 70, says Beatty, the charismatic star of hit movies "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Shampoo," is aware of his role in the song, although, she said, "Warren thinks the whole thing is about him!"
Simon, who had romances with singers Mick Jagger and Cat Stevens and actor Jack Nicholson as well as Beatty, is not naming other names, but in the past she has said the song was not about her then husband, singer-songwriter James Taylor.

Taco Bell is rescuing its first restaurant by moving it to another city.
The taco chain said Wednesday that it is saving its first restaurant from demolition by lifting it from its 53-year-old foundation in Downey, California, near Los Angeles, and moving it 45 miles southeast to Taco Bell's headquarters in Irvine.
The restaurant, nicknamed Numero Uno, was opened in 1962 by founder Glen Bell as a walk-up taco stand with live music and fire pits. It closed in 1986, and other restaurants took over the space until it was emptied last year. Taco Bell is now owned by fast food operator Yum Brands Inc., which is based in Louisville, Kentucky.
The entire structure, which is about 400 square feet, will make the move Thursday night. It will stay in storage at Taco Bell's headquarters until the company figures out what to do with it. Suggestions will be taken from customers.
Even in a record-breaking hot year for Earth, October stood out as absurdly warm.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that last month globally was 58.86 degrees (14.98 degrees Celsius). That's the hottest October on record by a third of a degree over the old mark, "an incredible amount" for weather records, said NOAA climate scientist Jessica Blunden.
October's temperature was the most above-normal month in history. It was 1.76 degrees Fahrenheit (0.98 degrees Celsius) above the 20th-century average.
This was the eighth month this year when a heat record was set, with only January and April not setting records. That's a record number of broken records in any year. Records go back to 1880.

An Oregon hunter has been charged with shooting dead a gray wolf last month, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of $6,250 in fines and up to a year in jail, a local prosecutor said on Tuesday.
Brennon Witty, 25, told Oregon wildlife authorities on Oct. 6 that he had shot the gray wolf while hunting coyotes in Prairie City, Oregon, a small town about 280 miles (450 km) southeast of Portland, Harney County District Attorney Tim Colahan said.
Coyotes can be hunted with a license year-round in the state. They share some physical resemblance to the gray wolf, but are about half the size of their canid cousin.
Witty, of Baker City, was charged on Nov. 7 with taking an endangered or threatened species and hunting with a rifle without a big game tag.
The wolf Witty shot was a male originally from the Umatilla River Pack in northeast Oregon. He wore a radio collar from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which tracked him under the name OR22.
Yellowstone National Park proposes to kill roughly 1,000 wild bison this winter - mostly calves and females - as officials seek to reduce the animals' annual migration into Montana.
Park officials are scheduled to meet Thursday with representatives of American Indian tribes, the state and other federal agencies to decide on the plan.
It marks the continuation of a controversial agreement reached in 2000 between Montana and the federal government that was meant to prevent the spread of the disease brucellosis from bison to livestock.
Almost 5,000 bison roamed the park this summer. A harsh winter could drive thousands into areas of southwestern Montana.
Hunters, including from tribes with treaty rights in the Yellowstone area, are anticipated to kill more than 300 of the animals this winter. Others would be captured and slaughtered or used for research.

The Australian government announced on Thursday it had barred foreigners from buying a company that owns the world's largest cattle ranch and other Australian farmland greater in area than South Korea.
The company, S. Kidman & Co. Ltd., owns 10 cattle ranches, a bull breeding stud and a feed lot covering 101,411 square kilometers (39,155 square miles) in four states. That's an area bigger than South Korea and almost as big as the U.S. state of Virginia.
Treasurer Scott Morrison said that Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board, or FIRB, found that the sale to foreign investors would be contrary to the national interest.
Kidman owns the world's biggest cattle ranch, Anna Creek Station, which covers 23,677 square kilometers (9,142 square miles) of arid central Australia. Half of it is inside the 122,188 square kilometer (47,177 square mile) Defense Department-controlled Woomera Prohibited Area, or WPA, the world's largest rocket firing range.
The contraband was carefully wrapped in corn husks and concealed in the luggage of a traveler when authorities moved in for a tamale takedown at Los Angeles International Airport.
The search by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents turned up 450 pork tamales individually packaged in plastic bags.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Wednesday the customs form filed by the traveler from Mexico acknowledged the person was carrying food but had lied when asked if there was any meat.
The tamales seized Nov. 2 at the airport were destroyed under CBP supervision. The traveler was assessed a $1,000 civil penalty for commercial activity with the intent to distribute.
