Sarah Silverman's Indecent Proposal To Romney Supporter Sheldon Adelson (NSFW VIDEO)
The Mitt Romney campaign is making headlines for raising a massive amount of a money, due in no small part to extremely generous donations from billionaires. In an effort to level the playing field, comedian Sarah Silverman is making a huge offer of her own, specifically to casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.
A Stunning Video That Reminds Us All to Dream of the Stars (io9)
Having made its debut at the TEDxISU (International Space University) event on July 6, this video is an inspirational call-to-arms for anyone who's ever looked to the stars and dreamed of a day when the sky was, in fact, not the limit. From Sputnik to Space Station, from Vostok to Virgin Galactic, the video reminds us of the spirit of adventure that unites us, regardless of time or place or politics. Dreaming, after all, is universal.

David Weir: Jonathan Maberry On The Convergence of Indie and Traditional Publishing (Smashwords)
When I was a young teenager I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know the late Ray Bradbury. He gave me a lot of very good advice on craft and the business of publishing, but one of the things that stuck out in my mind was this -he said, "Writers should always help other writers ---because you can bet every penny in your pocket that no one else will do it."
What divorced readers did with their wedding rings (BBC)
"Both our wedding rings, from our first marriages are lying at the bottom of the deepest lake in Crete. They were thrown in on a very romantic night, with beautiful surroundings, and planning beforehand. I threw his old ring, and he threw my old ring. Best thing we ever did."
Obama Ad 'Firms' Slams Romney's Jobs Record, Overseas Accounts (Huffington Post)
Obama met Romney's plea for an apology for the attacks with a mocking ad that charged that the firm shipped American jobs to China and Mexico, that Romney has personal wealth in investments in Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, and that as Massachusetts governor, he sent state jobs to India.

@JoeS, in order to properly understand Haiku, one needs a Jewasian grandchild. I was playing around with one a few years back, and my precious grandson leaned over my shoulder and started saying, "No gamma, put the 3 there, and the 4 somewhere else." Between us, we finished it in no time. He and his sister just look at things differently... I NEVER play Monopoly with them anymore... :)

They must have been some big mansions!

Being a charlatan astrologer at one time , I found this to be interesting! I vaguely remember the short time we spent on Chinese Astronomy in my freshman year of college.

Images of the Antarctic huts used by polar explorers Sir Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott have been posted online as part of the latest extension to Google's Maps service. The prefabricated wooden cabins were erected in 1908 and 1911 respectively, and were used as bases for the men's attempts to reach the south pole. Users can navigate the 360-degree photographs to see some of the kit and supplies used by both expeditions. The locations appear well-preserved. The buildings have benefited from ongoing conservation work by the New Zealand-based Antarctic Heritage Trust, which co-operated with Google on the project...
BBC News - Shackleton and Scott's Antarctic huts are put online by Google
Scott is well known for losing the race to the South Pole to the Norwegian Roald Amundsen in December 1911 and subsequently dying with his men on the return march. They were forever entombed in the Antarctic ice after being found by a search party. However, Shackleton has one of the most remarkable survival stories of all time -
NOVA Online | Shackleton's Voyage of Endurance | PBS ... It is remarkable that his ship was named the 'Endurance' considering what he endured in order to save his men trapped in Antarctica. I can't think of a comparable feat...

Jimmy Kimmel is coming to the rescue of the Emmy nominations.
Nick Offerman of "Parks and Recreation" was to join "Scandal" star Kerry Washington in announcing top nominees for this year's Emmy Awards early Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
But the TV academy says that Offerman "regretfully" won't be on hand for the televised event because of weather-related travel delays on the East Coast.
Kimmel, who will host the Emmys in September on ABC, has agreed to step in for Offerman, the academy said Wednesday evening.
A group of theater community heavyweights - including Jon Robin Baitz, Stephen Sondheim, Tony Kushner, John Guare and Terrence McNally - have signed an open letter defending a playwright whose play parodying 1970's sitcoms has been accused of copyright infringement by lawyers representing the TV show "Three's Company."
The collection of playwrights, theater professionals and performers are backing David Adjmi, whose play "3-C" just ended its run at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre.
The play is about two girls - one a tomboy, the other a sexy ditz - and a guy who spontaneously become roommates in a rundown Santa Monica apartment after a wild party. They clash with a dislikable landlord who makes offensive, homophobic jokes. The playwright is exploring the idea of a culture avoiding hard issues and problems by retreating into sex and drugs
The law firm Kenyon & Kenyon, which represents DLT Entertainment, the owners of the long defunct TV sitcom "Three's Company," sent Adjmi a letter demanding that he cease further performances of the play anywhere. The lawyers claim that "3-C" is damaging to a proposed stage version of "Three's Company."

"Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara edged out Kim Kardashian as the highest-earning woman in U.S. television, taking in $19 million for the past 12 months on a list released by Forbes.com on Wednesday.
The Colombian-born Vergara took the No. 1 spot thanks to her Emmy Award-winning role on the ABC sitcom, a clothing line, endorsement deals and her partnership role in Latin World Entertainment, an entertainment company that Forbes said "was poised to become a new media powerhouse."
The 40-year-old actress beat out Kim Kardashian, who came in second, earning an estimated $18 million from her reality TV series, "Keeping Up With The Kardashians", a clothing line, endorsement deals, a huge Twitter and media presence augmented by a recent romance with singer Kanye West, Forbes said.

Comedian Tina Fey, creator and star of NBC comedy "30 Rock" was ranked at No. 6, earning an estimated $11 million.
Electronic books more than doubled in popularity in 2011, with ebooks outselling hardcover books in adult fiction for the first time, according to a survey released on Wednesday.
Net sales of e-books jumped to 15 percent of the market in 2011 from 6 percent in 2010, according to a report by the Association of American Publishers and the Book Industry Study Group. The groups compiled data provided by nearly 2,000 publishers.
Total overall U.S. book market sales declined 2.5 percent to $27.2 billion in 2011 from $27.9 billion in 2010, the report said.
While ebooks increased in strength, bringing in more than $2 billion in 2011, the majority of publishers' revenue still came from print books, with $11.1 billion in 2011.

Sixties teen idol Bobby Rydell has undergone a liver and kidney transplant in Philadelphia.
The 70-year-old singer, whose hits include "Wild One" and "Volare," had surgery last week. He tells KYW-AM that his doctor didn't expect him to live much longer without the double organ transplant.
Doctors at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital say they were able to use part of the donor liver to help Rydell and the other part to help a child.
Rydell says he now wants to help raise awareness about organ donation. He expects to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
Country Music Hall of Fame performer Glen Campbell is canceling his tour of Australia and New Zealand with Kenny Rogers next month for health reasons.

The president of Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain with more than 1,600 restaurants and $4 billion in revenue, has come out against same-sex marriage.
"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Dan Cathy, the company's president and chief operating officer, said in a recent radio interview. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."
In an interview with the Baptist Press published this week, Cathy doubled down on his stance against same-sex unions.
"Guilty as charged," Cathy said. "We are very much supportive of the family-the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."
According to Queerty.com, the WinShape Foundation-Chick-fil-A's charitable arm-donated more than $1.1 million between 2003 and 2008 to anti-LGBT groups, doubling that amount to $2 million in 2009.

Actor David Hasselhoff flashes a dreamy smile and displays a lean tank top-clad torso in giant photo cutouts that his fans apparently can't leave alone.
About 550 of the cutouts were stolen from outside Cumberland Farms convenience stores in recent weeks.

Ngo says Cumberland is flattered by the attention its ads featuring "the Hoff" are drawing. She's just asks anyone with a Hasselhoff to keep it safe.
South Carolina lawmakers voted in a special session on Wednesday to override dozens of budget vetoes by the state's governor that cut funding for teachers' pay raises, an arts commission, and non-profit rape crisis centers.
Republican Governor Nikki Haley (R-Penis Envy) earlier this month vetoed $67.5 million of the state's $6.7 billion spending plan for 2012-2013 in a effort to shut down state programs she said "don't work."
But lawmakers in the Republican-led state legislature said Haley went too far and moved to restore some of the funds, including $10 million for teachers' pay raises, $3.9 million for an arts commission and $450,000 for the state's 15 private, non-profit rape crisis centers.
"Of all the vetoes that need to be overridden, this is the most important one," said Republican Senator Jake Knotts, voicing support for the rape crisis centers."Victims of assault, women and children, are the ones who need the most help. It's money well-spent," he said.

A painting believed to be by French master Henri Matisse that was stolen from a Venezuelan museum more than a decade ago has been recovered in an undercover sting operation at a Miami Beach hotel, authorities said on Wednesday.
A man and a woman who allegedly tried to sell the 1925 work "Odalisque in Red Pants" (Odalisque à la culotte rouge) to FBI agents for $740,000 were arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods.
Pedro Antonio Marcuello Guzman, 46, of Miami, Florida, and Maria Martha Elisa Ornelas Lazo, 50, of Mexico City, appeared in court in Miami and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
The painting, a harem scene depicting a bare-chested woman seated on the floor with legs crossed in bright red pants, is valued at approximately $3 million.
"Marcuello allegedly admitted to the undercover agents during a meeting that he knew the painting was stolen and offered to sell the stolen painting for approximately $740,000," the statement said.
More than half a million pages of historic documents detailing Arabic history and culture are to be made available online for the first time, as part of the British Library's plans to make its content more accessible.
Among the works is J.G. Lorimer's Gazetter, considered by many to be one of the most important sources on the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia, which was originally compiled in the early 20th century as a handbook for British agents and policymakers in the Middle East.
The 8.7 million pound ($14 million) project will feature more than half a million documents from the East India Company and India Office as well as 25,000 pages of medieval Arabic manuscripts depicting the Arab world's science and medicine.
The partnership between the British Library and the Qatar Foundation was announced on Wednesday and is aimed at expanding people's understanding of the history of the Middle East, and the region's relationship with Britain and the rest of the world.
This undated picture publicly provided by the Archeological Institute of the University of Innsbruck, shows a medieval bra. The bra is commonly thought to be little more than 100 years old as corseted women abandoned rigid fashions and opted for the more natural look. But that timeline is about to be revised with the discovery of four brassieres from the Middle Ages in a debris-filled vault of an Austrian castle. The find, formally announced Wednesday July 18, 2012 by the University of Innsbruck, is being described by historical fashion experts as revolutionary because it indicates that the bra was already worn around 600 years ago before being abandoned for the stiff stays dictated by the form-hugging clothing that become the mode for centuries.
