The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is a nonfiction book by Tom Wolfe that was published in 1968. The book is remembered today as an early - and arguably the most popular - example of the growing literary style called New Journalism. Wolfe presents an as-if-firsthand account of the experiences of Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters, who traveled across the country in a colorfully painted school bus named "Furthur". Kesey and the Pranksters became famous for their use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs in hopes of achieving intersubjectivity. The book chronicles the Acid Tests (parties in which LSD-laced Kool-Aid was used to obtain a communal trip), the group's encounters with (in)famous figures of the time, including famous authors, Hells Angels, and The Grateful Dead, and it also describes Kesey's exile to Mexico and his arrests.

"The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" was about Ken Kesey and the Merry

"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" which is also a great movie.

More than a dozen Fox News personalities have made appearances at events for groups funded by the Koch brothers, even as many of them were also defending the controversial billionaires on the network's airwaves, according to a new study from Media Matters.
Charles and David Koch, founders of Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF), have called on at least 15 Fox News hosts and contributors to publicly promote upcoming AFP and AFPF events, Media Matters said. These hosts include Tucker Carlson, Mike Huckabee, Laura Ingraham, Guy Benson, Dana Perino and Andrew Napolitano.
A recent Politico report showed that AFP "intends to spend more than $125 million this year on an aggressive ground, air and data operation benefiting conservatives." Since 2012, a growing number of hosts have become the faces of these Koch-funded events in an effort to increase the attendance.
Moreover, many of these hosts have also loudly backed the Koch brothers on Fox News shows, Media Matters noted. Just weeks before Tucker Carlson was set to be the lead speaker at an AFPF in May, for instance, he criticized opponents of the Koch brothers during an edition of "Special Report." Hosts of "Fox & Friends" and "The Five" have also come to the brothers' aid and used their shows to promote AFP and AFPF material.

Lively responded through his ministry's website Tuesday and called the TV host a "liar and a fraud" before promising to eviscerate him in a debate. "The Pink Swastika" author and head of Abiding Truth Ministries insists he was "attacked by Oliver," so he apparently felt the need to mount a defense.
"I find it funny that lefties like John Oliver who pose as humanitarians are the masters at dehumanizing other people through ridicule and never give the subjects of their smears a fair chance to respond," Lively said.
As reported previously, Oliver took Lively to task because of the part he played in helping make Uganda so intolerant of the LGBT community. He admonished the conservative Christian for his crusade against tolerance and equality and played clips of his hateful sermons.
Russell Brand is back taking shots at Fox News, and this time he has a new target: Bill O'Reilly. The actor and comedian took to his YouTube channel again on Monday to tear into O'Reilly's recent comments about immigration. The "O'Reilly Factor" host argued in June that the majority of immigrants will not be able to compete in the United States' job market because they "can't speak English, have little education and few skills."
"Bill, your whole economic argument is rubbish and based on bigotry," Brand said.
O'Reilly went on to claim that it would take too long-- most likely decades-- for these immigrant children to become "self-sufficient."
Brand pointed out that children becoming "self-sufficient" is called "people growing up over time"-- which everyone does, not just immigrants.
Brand has dedicated an entire YouTube channel to taking down the media, particularly Fox News. Some of his earlier videos include calling the network "a fanatical terrorist propagandist organization" and wondering if Fox News just wants everyone to be racist.

"Frozen" wasn't always supposed to look this way. Disney's monstrous hit was originally intended to look like it was done by hand-drawn animation, à la "Aladdin" or "Beauty and the Beast." While in production, the film was tentatively titled "Anna and the Snow Queen" and was supposed to follow the lead of 2009's "The Princess and the Frog," which was also drawn in the old-school style.
But when "The Princess and the Frog" underperformed at the box office, Disney changed "Frozen" to look like its more updated films (see: "Tangled"). Disney seems to have made the right choice, considering "Frozen" is now the highest-grossing animated film of all time ... and a cultural phenomenon ... and the inspiration for hundreds of viral videos.

The organization that hosts the Academy Awards has sued over the recent auction of a 1942 Oscar awarded to the art director of "My Gal Sal" and is seeking to buy back the statuette for $10.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Rhode Island-based Briarbrook Auction Services.
Briarbrook sold the Oscar for $79,200 on June 24. "My Gal Sal" starred Rita Hayworth, and the art direction award to Joseph Wright was its only Academy Award win.
The academy adopted a rule in 1951 prohibiting winners or their heirs from selling Oscars. It is seeking an order requiring Briarbrook to sell it the Oscar for $10 in accordance with the academy bylaws.
Briarbrook owner Nanci Thompon said she has not seen the lawsuit. But she noted that Wright's Oscar predated the academy's sales prohibition and said her company was careful before offering it for sale.

Rush Limbaugh (R-Drug-Addled Sex Tourist)-apparently not content with having caused the Sandra Fluke firestorm-waddled into the birth control debate once more on his Wednesday show. This time, the subject was the Supreme Court's recent ruling in the so-called Hobby Lobby case.
The Court said that Hobby Lobby and other "closely held" companies cannot be required to cover birth control for their employees. Limbaugh, who supported the decision, said that the issue should have never been up for debate in the first place.
On Wednesday, the radio host weighed in again. He said one listener called him to point out that the federal government does not require employers to cover eye exams or dental work.
"Which is worse, to go blind from lack of regular eye exams or to get pregnant? And again, pregnancy is something you have to do to cause," Limbaugh said. "It doesn't just happen to you while you're walking down the street except in the case of sexual abuse."
He claimed that women treat pregnancy "like a disease" even though it is the consequence of their actions. "And yet, they wouldn't have the problem if they didn't do a certain thing," he said. "It's that simple."

A study by the U.S. Department of Education shows that the main campuses of the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University are the most costly four-year public colleges in the country.
The study, which used tuition figures for in-state residents for the 2012-2013 academic year and was released on Monday, showed Pitt's tuition and fees, excluding room and board, at $16,590, and Penn State's at $16,444. The University of New Hampshire is a close third with the cost to state residents at $16,422.
The national average for in-state tuition at public colleges is $7,407. Out-of-state tuition is even higher.
Among the least expensive public colleges are Palm Beach State College in Florida at $2,378 and, at the bottom of the list, Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas at $80.
Visitors attach paper strips with their wish written on it for the Star Festival or "tanabata" to a bamboo branch at a temple in Tokyo, Wednesday, July 2, 2014. According to legend, deities Orihime (Vega) and her lover Hikoboshi (Altair), separated by the Milky Way, are allowed to meet only once a year on July 7. In Japan people celebrate the festival by writing wishes on strips of paper and hanging them under bamboo trees.

For those who believe in the yeti, the news can only be described as, well, abominable.
Science has cast its methodical eye on samples of hair reputed to have been left by the Himalayan snowman of legend... and determined they came from a bear or a goat.
Similarly crushing disappointment lies in wait for those who believe in Big Foot, the yeti's North American counterpart; in the almasty, the elusive man of the Central Asian wastes; and in the orang pendek, a bipedal hominid reputed to roam the mountainous forests of Sumatra.
The evidence, reported in the British journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, comes from DNA testing of hair samples attributed to "anomalous primates," a neutral term for these creatures of legend.
Veteran Hollywood actor Bob Hastings, best-remembered as a bootlicking lieutenant in the 1960s television World War Two comedy "McHale's Navy," has died at the age of 89.
Hastings died at his home in Burbank, California, on Monday after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, granddaughter Allison Knowles said.
Hastings also appeared in several episodes of 1970s comedy "All in the Family" as well as performing voice work in dozens of episodes of 1990s program "Batman: The Animated Series."
Hastings, a World War Two veteran who voiced Archie Comics character Archie Andrews from 1945 to 1953 on NBC radio, was the older brother of Don Hastings, an actor best-known for his role as a physician on soap opera "As the World Turns."
Hastings is survived by his brother and four children, as well as by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
