"Beep Beep" is a novelty song by The Playmates, released in 1958 by Roulette Records (catalog number 4115) as the B-side to "Your Love". "Beep Beep" was written by C. Cicchetti and D. Claps.
The song is built around accelerando: the tempo of the song gradually increases commensurate with the increasing speed of the drivers. It is a tortoise-and-the-hare story, substituting the drivers of two unequal cars: a Nash Rambler and Cadillac, respectively.
"Beep Beep" began charting with Billboard on November 3, 1958; it charted for 15 weeks, peaking at number four. After the single sold one million copies (the Playmates' only), it was awarded a gold disc by the Recording Industry Association of America. At the height of the song's popularity, The Playmates appeared on the December 3, 1958 episode of The Milton Berle Show.
In December 1958, Time credited the popularity "Beep Beep" with helping Nash Motors break records. In November 1958, the company doubled its previous year's production record with 26,782 cars; Ramblers accounted for 9.2% of October 1958's automobile sales in the United States; and though "total U.S. exports slid 16% in 1958, Rambler's climbed 10.3%."

In the song, "Beep Beep," the other car in a race with the Cadillac was "a little Nash Rambler" that was stuck in second gear. I'm sure that particular Rambler was a full size sedan, but every time that song comes on in my car, I get a mental picture of the Nash Metropolitan, a doggone cute little two-seater. My first girlfriend's dad had one, and I can assure you that there was no way in Hell that thing could hit 140 MPH!
Cal in Vermont said:
A little Nash Rambler which accomplished seemingly impossible feats in only second gear.

The mighty Wiki tells me it was a Nash Rambler. Funny, last week on an episode of "Jeopardy" I got the right answer about a car and I'm pretty sure it was a Nash Rambler. *cue spooky music*
Jim from CA, retired to ID, said:
The song describes a duel between the drivers of a Cadillac and a Nash Rambler on the road.
Dave wrote:
Nash Rambler. The 1958 song was also known as The Little Nash Rambler. I listened to it and I can't believe they sold a single copy. A 1958 Cadillac 365 cubic inch V8 offered up to 335 horsepower (depending on the model) while a Nash Rambler did have an optional V8 it was much smaller and the output was only 190 horsepower. So the song wasn't about a real world encounter.
Dave in Tucson answered:
The song was about a Cadillac being unexpectedly bested by a Nash Rambler.
Billy in Cypress U$A replied:
A little Nash Rambler that is stuck in second gear.
Daniel in The City responded:

A man has raised over $10,000 to tap-dance over his downstairs MAGA neighbor and says he's donating all the proceeds
When Jett Croisant noticed his downstairs neighbor had put up Trump signs in their window during the protests, he decided to post his own. It read, "Venmo @Jet513 and I will tapdance at midnight."
Croisant told BuzzFeed News he "did it for the humor" and "expected to get $3'' from anyone who would see his sign IRL. That's until his neighbor took a photo of it and posted it to her Twitter - now he's received over $10,000.

Bruce Springsteen originally planned on devoting his biweekly SiriusXM show From My Home to Yours to songs that celebrated summer this week. But the mounting death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic caused him to switch gears and record an episode offering prayers to everyone impacted by the ongoing tragedy.
"With 100,000 plus Americans dying over the last few months and the empty, shamed response from our leaders, I've been simply pissed off," he said at the top of the show. "Those lives deserve better than being simply inconvenient statistics for our president's reelection efforts. It's a national disgrace."
"Instead of celebrating the joys of summer today, we will be contemplating our current circumstances with the coronavirus and the cost it has drawn from our nation," he continued. "We will be calculating what we've lost, sending prayers for the deceased and the families they have left behind. If you are ready for a rock & roll requiem, stay tuned."
He then turned his attention to President Trump. "With all respect, sir, show some consideration and care for your countrymen and your country," he said. "Put on a fucking mask. This is Bob Dylan with 'Disease of Conceit.'"
The rest of the show mixed mournful songs like Neil Young's "When God Made Me" and the Sensational Nightingales' "Burying Ground" with Springsteen reading the names of people that died from COVID-19, touching on everyone from everyday citizens to cultural icons like John Prine and Adam Schlesinger.
The new chief of U.S.-funded international broadcasting on Wednesday fired the heads of at least three outlets he oversees and replaced their boards with allies, in a move likely to raise fears that he intends to turn the Voice of America and its sister outlets into Trump administration propaganda machines.
U.S. Agency for Global Media CEO Michael Pack informed those he dismissed in email notices sent late Wednesday just hours after he had sought to play down those concerns in an email to staff saying he is committed to ensuring the independence of the broadcasters who are charged with delivering independent news and information to audiences around the world.
Two congressional aides said that among those removed from their positions were the head of Radio Free Asia, Bay Fang, the head of Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe, Jamie Fly, and the head of the Middle East Broadcasting Network, Alberto Fernandez. The director and deputy director of the Voice of America, Amanda Bennett and Sandy Sugawara, had resigned from their positions on Monday.
Pack, a conservative filmmaker and one-time associate of President Donald Trump (R-Grifter)'s former political adviser Steve Bannon, said in a notices to those fired that he was taking the step consistent with his authority as the new CEO of the overall agency. It gave no reason for his decision.
He added in the notices that he expected the agency's new board of directors, chaired by himself, to approve the decision. In a separate message, Pack also announced that he had removed all the current members of the broadcasters' respective boards and installed his own team, with officials from various agencies, including the Office of Management and Budget and Department of Housing and Urban Development.
"The Bold and the Beautiful" has found a creative way to film its intimate sex scenes in the social distancing era: Using blow-up dolls.
"We have some life-like blow up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we've used for various other stories - (like) when people were presumed dead," Bradley Bell, executive producer and head writer, told Forbes. "We're dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they'll be featured in love scenes."
Bell added that for intimate scenes that also involve touching (and a live body that can move), they will use actors' spouses, provided they test negative for COVID-19.
The CBS soap opera returned to its Television City soundstage on Wednesday, becoming the first U.S. television series to get back to work following the three-month shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, the series was renewed for two more seasons, which will take it through Season 35 and 2022. The hope is for new original episodes to begin airing in early-to-mid July, though no airdate has been set yet.
The cast and crew will be tested for coronavirus daily as part of the health protocol. "The Bold and the Beautiful" has also hired a COVID-19 director who will be on set at all times to make sure proper protocols are followed as set forth by L.A. County, the City of Los Angeles, and each of the Hollywood guilds. The series will also be allowing fewer cast and crew on set per day than before, or they will be asked to come in shifts. All will be required to social distance themselves and wear face masks at all times, with an exception made for actors who are filming a scene.
Days after he was shown struggling to descend a gentle ramp at the West Point graduation ceremony, Donald Trump (R-Draft Dodger) has been hit with a new attack ad drawing attention to what it says is evidence of his poor and declining health.
The 45-second video comes from the Lincoln Project, a group formed by longtime Republican campaign strategists who view the president's re-election as a risk to the future of the US.
Over shots of Mr Trump teetering down the West Point ramp and struggling to lift bottles of water, the ad's concerned voiceover urgently informs the viewer: "Something's wrong with Donald Trump."
It says: "He's shaky. Weak. Trouble speaking. Trouble walking. So why aren't we talking about this - and why isn't the press covering Trump's secret midnight run to Walter Reed Medical Centre? Why do so many reporters who cover the White House pretend they can't see Trump's decline?
"We're not doctors, but we're not blind. It's time we talk about this. Trump is not well."
An organization that founded the nation's first memorial to lynching victims announced Tuesday that it has documented thousands of additional killings of black people during the era of Reconstruction.
The Equal Justice Initiative said it has now documented nearly 6,500 lynchings of black people between 1865 and 1950. The group, which previously documented 4,500 lynchings, on Tuesday released a new report titled "Reconstruction in America" that documents nearly an additional 2,000 lynchings between 1865 and 1876.
The lynchings, concentrated but not limited to the South, in the years after the Civil War came as enslaved people were newly freed, but mobs attacked their attempts to live freely and participate in the political process.
The reported documented 34 mass lynchings. In Opelousas, Louisiana in 1868 an estimated 200 black people were killed over several days after attempting to participate in the political process.
The report said the review of available records, "paints a haunting and devastating picture of a period of deadly attacks that yielded thousands of documented victims and terrorized Black communities across the South with near-daily acts of lynching and assault."
A letter written by Vincent van Gogh and fellow artist Paul Gauguin describing visits to brothels and discussing the future of art has been sold at auction for 210,600 euros ($237,700).
The letter was bought in Paris on Tuesday by the Vincent van Gogh Foundation which will display it in its museum in Amsterdam. The artists wrote the letter to French painter Emile Bernard in late 1888 during their stay in the French city of Arles, where the foundation also has a museum.
The letter, written a week after Frenchman Gauguin joined Van Gogh at the Dutchman's house in Arles, tells Bernard of their discussions on art and their work.
"Now something that will interest you - we've made some excursions in the brothels, and it's likely that we'll eventually go there often to work," the letter says.
The Vincent van Gogh Foundation said the letter was the most important document by van Gogh not held by any museum, as it was the only letter he wrote with Gauguin.
A mysterious 68-million-year-old fossil found on Seymour Island off Antarctica's coast that looked like a deflated football has turned out to be a unique find - the second-largest egg on record and one that may have belonged to a huge marine reptile that lived alongside the dinosaurs.
The fossilized egg - measuring 8 by 11 inches (29 by 20 cm) - is only slightly smaller than eggs of Madagascar's giant flightless elephant birds that went extinct only in the past several centuries, scientists said on Wednesday.
While birds, crocodilians and many dinosaurs laid hard-shelled eggs, the Antarctic egg had a soft, parchment-like shell.
"This new egg is the very first fossil egg from Antarctica, and the largest soft-shelled egg ever discovered," said University of Texas paleontologist Lucas Legendre, lead author of the research published in the journal Nature.
"It looks a bit like a deflated football: elongated, collapsed, with many creases and folds on its surface. One side is flattened, suggesting this is where it came in contact with the sea floor. Its eggshell is very thin and poorly mineralized, like in the eggs of lizard and snakes."
There's much more to cannabis than THC-for solid proof, look no further than the CBD boom-but when it comes to moving product on the legal recreational market, only two numbers matter: the list price, and the THC content.
Super-potent cannabis flower, with THC percentages of 25 percent and up, dominate dispensary shelves. High-THC cannabis will sell out very quickly while lower-percentage weed gathers dust.
When cannabis tests at more than 25 percent THC, dispensaries can justify charging $75 or more for a store-bought eighth-because there's a very good chance people will pay it, confident that they're taking home the best and most potent weed available. If the weed's in the teens, well, it had better be cheap.
The problem is that this is all wrong. All of it.
THC shopping is almost as bad and dumb as buying wine based on how cool the label looks (which is also how some people buy weed).
