The City of Beverly Hills voted unanimously on Tuesday to pressure the government of Brunei to divest the Beverly Hills Hotel, the pink-hued haunt of the Hollywood set, after the small country's enactment of sharia law prompted protests.
Comedians Ellen DeGeneres, Jay Leno and British entrepreneur Richard Branson have been the most prominent figures to advocate shunning the hotel and its bungalows, a favored locale for the Hollywood elite since it opened a century ago.
The resolution urges Brunei to divest its ownership of the hotel, and any other properties it owns within Beverly Hills, and condemns it and other countries that operate under Islamic criminal law.
Gay rights advocacy group Human Rights Campaign on Tuesday called on the hotel's owner to stop promoting special services at the hotel for same-sex weddings, now legal in California.
"This is the height of hypocrisy, and we must ensure that profits from LGBT weddings in the U.S. stop going to a regime that could soon start executing its LGBT citizens," the group's president Chad Griffin said in a statement.
Terry Crews is going in for Cedric The Entertainer as new host of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire."
Crews, an actor, former NFL player and Old Spice pitchman, will join the weekday game show starting this fall, according to its studio, Disney-ABC Domestic Television.
He replaces comedian Cedric The Entertainer, who's hosting the show in its 12th season in national syndication.
Crews has been a regular this season on the freshman Fox sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." His films include Tyler Perry's "The Single Moms Club" and Ivan Reitman's "Draft Day." His first book, "Manhood," will be out this month.

"You know what they say, if everyone else thinks you're crazy, then maybe you should look inside yourself and see what's happening," she says. "So twice I went to see a doctor. I had to be sure myself, to make sure I wasn't crazy."

Jet magazine, which first hit newsstands at the dawn of the civil rights era, is ceasing regular print publication and transforming into a digital app.
Johnson Publishing Co., which owns Jet along with Ebony magazine, says the switch will occur at the end of June. The Chicago-based company says the move is a proactive effort to adapt to its readers' growing desires for quicker and easier access to information.
Desiree Rogers, Johnson Publishing's CEO says the change will take the magazine back to its roots. She notes that Jet, which was founded by John Johnson in November 1951, was originally intended as a newsweekly digest for African-Americans living in an increasingly faster-paced world.
The app will launch on June 30 and cost $20 a year. It will contain shorter, more mobile-friendly, articles and return to a weekly publishing format, with breaking news updates on a daily basis. The print magazine currently publishes every three weeks.
A leading US medical journal on Wednesday hit out at the powerful American gun lobby for opposing the nomination for the post of top doctor, calling it a new form of "political blackmail."
At issue is the nomination to the post of surgeon general of a Harvard medical school physician named Vivek Murthy, whose parents were born in India.
Murthy "has lived the American dream," said the editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine, noting his role in expanding HIV education, broadening access to healthcare and fighting childhood obesity.
His nomination awaits a vote in the US Senate, but that vote may be postponed or his candidacy withdrawn, amid reports that as many as 10 Senate Democrats would vote against him, enough to keep him out of the post.
The National Rifle Association has sent letters to lawmakers and to members over the past two months, urging them to oppose Murthy based on his views on guns.
The HGTV network says it's pulling the plug on an upcoming real estate show after it was pointed out one of its hosts has campaigned against gay marriage and denounced homosexuality.
The show is called "Flip it Forward" and was to debut in October. If would have featured twins David and Jason Benham buying and renovating real estate.
After the network announced the show was upcoming, the lobbying group Right Wing Watch labeled David Benham an "anti-gay extremist" and reported on quotes he made about homosexuality.
HGTV issued a statement Wednesday saying it is "not moving forward" with the series. The network said it wouldn't explain why.

Former TV judge Joe Brown could become the top prosecutor in Tennessee's largest county if the voters elect him over the incumbent in August.
Brown, a Democrat, and incumbent Amy Weirich, a Republican, ran unopposed in primary elections on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old Brown was a criminal court judge in Memphis before stepping down to dedicate himself to the TV show. The show is no longer on the air.
He was arrested and briefly jailed in March after a Shelby County Juvenile Court magistrate found him in contempt of court during a contentious hearing. He is appealing the charges.

A California museum says it has reached an agreement to return a 10th-century statue known as the "Temple Wrestler" to Cambodia.
The announcement was made Wednesday by the Norton Simon Museum and Norton Simon Art Foundation in Pasadena, where the statue has been on display for nearly four decades.
The sandstone work depicts Bhima, a heroic figure in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
A statement from the museum characterizes the return as a gift and a gesture of friendship in response to a unique request by top officials to help rebuild Cambodia's "soul" as a nation.

Pablo Picasso's "The Rescue" sold for $31.5 million at auction in New York.
The colorful 1932 oil painting fetched far more Wednesday than its $14 million to $18 million estimated price.
"The Rescue" led the bidding Wednesday at a Sotheby's sale of impressionist and modern art. The auction house sold 50 pieces, raising about $219 million.
It was the second straight night a painting by the Cubist master changed hands for a big price. Picasso's 1942 painting of his mistress in a purple dress titled "Portrait of Dora Maar" sold Tuesday for $22.5 million at Christie's.
Canadian author and environmentalist Farley Mowat, a fervent and sometimes controversial writer who sold some 17 million books, has died, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Wednesday. He was 92.
Mowat's work introduced millions of readers to the Canadian north, a vast, sparsely populated region few writers had explored in depth. He also campaigned for the need to protect wildlife and strongly opposed over-development by humans.
Mowat, who served as an officer in Italy in World War Two, came to prominence in 1952 with his first book, "People of the Deer," which described the travails of an Inuit tribe battling starvation and government indifference in Canada's Arctic.
The book sparked interest in the north, and Mowat built on his fame with "Never Cry Wolf" in 1963, in which he tried to dispel the image of the wolf as a killing machine responsible for the decline in the caribou population.
Mowat wrote more than 40 books and was awarded the prestigious Order of Canada decoration in 1981. He is survived by his second wife and two adult children.
He was also a friend of former Liberal prime minister Pierre Trudeau, himself a great nature lover.
"He was obviously a passionate Canadian who shaped a lot of my generation growing up with his books, and he will be sorely missed," said Trudeau's son Justin, 42, who heads Canada's opposition Liberal Party.
