Julia Turner: Better Call Saul Is Better Than Breaking Bad (Slate)
It may be early to declare Better Call Saul an all-time great TV show, but the necessary ingredients are there. The Season 2 finale airing Monday may reveal just how far astray Jimmy's pinwheeling moral compass can lead him; events foreshadowed last week may push him more decisively toward Sauldom and the end of his relationship with Kim. Or perhaps that journey will take a few more laps. No matter how Saul gets where he's going, though, you'd be a fool not to join him on the road.

Then again, what is money for if not to make life slightly more enjoyable, more beautiful, more comfortable and vibrant and interesting? Saving it for some future time means you miss its abject pleasures now. Hell, I need 32 square feet just for my leather jackets and bourbon. Life is gorgeous and dangerous teeming with possibility, and could end any second. We're gonna need a bigger pod.
The crwth, also called a crowd or rote, is an archaic stringed instrument, associated particularly with Welsh music, once widely played in Europe. Four examples have survived and are to be found in St Fagans National History Museum Cardiff, National Museum Wales Aberystwyth, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

A crwth is an archaic stringed musical Instrument….a Welsh version of a fiddle, it looks like that to me…getting centered once again…
Lois Of The Lutes responded:
The answer is" D", for it is none other than the Welsh (the spelling was a tip off) two dimensional fiddle so popular in the middle ages, before the Stratocaster was invented and everything got better. Here, for your pleasure, are some Welsh related memes from the internets!

Former MLB pitcher and ESPN analyst Curt Schilling has been fired by ESPN.
"ESPN is an inclusive company," said the network in a statement on Wednesday. "Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated."
The 49-year-old once again found himself in hot water on Tuesday after he shared an anti-transgender meme over Facebook, which he later deleted.
Schilling was previously suspended from ESPN's baseball coverage for the remainder of the 2015 regular season and the wild-card playoff game after posting a tweet comparing Muslims to Nazis.
At that time, the sports network said Schilling's tweet was "completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective."
World press freedom deteriorated in 2015, especially in the Americas, advocacy group Reporters Without Borders said Wednesday as it released its annual rankings, warning of "a new era of propaganda".
The World Press Freedom Index ranks 180 countries on indicators such as media independence, self-censorship, the rule of law, transparency and abuses.
This year's report warned of a climate of fear that has seen world leaders "developing a form of paranoia about legitimate journalism."
Christophe Deloire, secretary general of the Paris-based group told AFP there had been a decline in all parts of the world, with Latin America of particular concern.
"We are entering a new era of propaganda where new technologies allow the low-cost dissemination of their own communication, their information, as dictated. On the other side, journalists are the ones who get in the way."
A son of wealthy industrialist Jon Huntsman Sr. has agreed to buy The Salt Lake Tribune, ending uncertainty about the future of Utah's largest independent newspaper.
Digital First Media reached an agreement to sell the newspaper to Paul Huntsman, the company announced in a news release Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Huntsman purchase fits an emerging ownership trend in the newspaper industry of wealthy business figures buying publications because they value their civic propaganda importance, media analyst Ken Doctor said.
In recent years, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has bought the Washington Post; Boston Red Sox owner John Henry has purchased the Boston Globe; and Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has bought the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

A blue diamond ring given to child star Shirley Temple when she was 12 and estimated to be worth $25-35 million failed to find a buyer at auction, Sotheby's said.
The late American movie legend received the 9.54-carat jewel from her father, who bought it in 1940 for $7,210.
It was the standout piece in an auction Tuesday night of 319 jewels that brought in $29.88 million.
"The Shirley Temple Blue Diamond is an exceptional stone in quality, rarity and provenance. It has been an honor to share its story with collectors, connoisseurs and Temple's loyal fans over the past few months," the auction house said.
Australia's Great Barrier Reef is suffering its worst coral bleaching in recorded history with 93 percent of the World Heritage site affected, scientists said Wednesday, as they revealed the phenomenon is also hitting the other side of the country.
After extensive aerial and underwater surveys, researchers at James Cook University said only seven percent of the huge reef had escaped the whitening triggered by warmer water temperatures.
"We've never seen anything like this scale of bleaching before," said Terry Hughes, convenor of the National Coral Bleaching Taskforce.
The damage ranges from minor in the southern areas -- which are expected to recover soon -- to very severe in the northern and most pristine reaches of the 2,300 kilometre (1,430 miles) site off the east coast.
Hughes said of the 911 individual reefs surveyed, only 68 (or seven percent) had escaped the massive bleaching event which has also spread south to Sydney Harbour for the first time and across to the west.

The Salt Lake City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to name a street after pioneering gay leader Harvey Milk, the latest display of its position as a blue island in a sea of deep-red, where the prevailing Mormon faith still has a fraught relationship with the LGBT community.
Utah's capital city recently elected its first openly gay mayor and its second sitting gay councilman, creating an increasingly friendly atmosphere for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The conservative religion's tone on gay issues has softened in recent years, but it still opposes same-sex marriage, believes homosexuality is a sin and recently banned baptisms for the children of gay parents. Faith leaders said the highly criticized move would avoid putting children in a tug-of-war between their parents and church teachings.
The Mormon church declined to comment on renaming the street. Sponsor Stan Penford, the city's first openly gay councilman, said that leaders likely would have reached out if they had a strong opposition.

If women have to wait 24 hours in South Carolina to get an abortion, men should have to do the same before they can get Viagra or other drugs to help them have sex, according to a tongue-in-cheek proposal discussed Wednesday.
Lawmakers cracked jokes about the bill - which also requires a sworn statement from a partner detailing their man's problems - but sponsor Rep. Mia McLeod said it isn't a laughing matter. The Democrat said South Carolina's male- and Republican-dominated Legislature places restrictions on abortion they don't place on any other medical matter.
McLeod's bill would require a 24-hour waiting period before an erectile dysfunction medicine could be picked up from the pharmacy and require patients to get counseling on celibacy as a valid life choice, which mirror requirements of South Carolina's abortion law.
They would have to get a sworn, notarized statement from their sexual partner saying they needed the medicine, which could bring up medical privacy issues. McLeod said she would alter the bill to assign patients numbers like state health officials do with women who get abortions.
A woman stands besides the painting 'John Frederick I' (1654) by Christian Richter during the press preview at the exhibition 'The Ernestines. A dynasty shapes Europe' in the New Museum in Weimar, central Germany, Wednesday, April 20, 2016. The exhibition will take place from April 24 to Aug. 28, 2016, at the former residences of Weimar and Gotha. Members of the Ernestine line are still to be found in several royal dynasties in Europe, for example in Belgium and Great Britain.

China will encourage ships flying its flag to take the Northwest Passage via the Arctic Ocean, a route opened up by global warming, to cut travel times between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, a state-run newspaper said on Wednesday.
China is increasingly active in the polar region, becoming one of the biggest mining investors in Greenland and agreeing to a free trade deal with Iceland.
Shorter shipping routes across the Arctic Ocean would save Chinese companies time and money. For example, the journey from Shanghai to Hamburg via the Arctic route is 2,800 nautical miles shorter than going by the Suez Canal.
China's Maritime Safety Administration this month released a guide offering detailed route guidance from the northern coast of North America to the northern Pacific, the China Daily said.
Most of the Northwest Passage lies in waters that Canada claims as its own.
A 108-year-old postcard offering a shilling in exchange for its return to an English marine research institute is now officially the world's oldest message in a bottle after being recovered in Germany.
The Plymouth Laboratory of the Marine Biological Association (MBA), which received the card, said this week that the bottle had smashed the old record of 99 years and 43 days in the Guinness World Records.
It was discovered by retired German postal worker Marianne Winkler while on holiday on Germany's North Frisian islands, 108 years and 138 days after it was thrown into the North Sea off the English coast by distinguished marine biologist George Parker Bidder on November 30, 1906.
Winkler followed the message inside reading "break the bottle", and found a postcard inside asking to be returned to the MBA in Plymouth, on England's south coast.
Bidder released a total of 1,020 bottles between 1904 and 1906.
