M. Alice LeGrow: 5 Things I Learned While Being a Guy (Tumblr)
My first party as a prince was this last weekend! Yeah, a prince, not a princess. :3 I was previously at Katsucon this month and wore my friend Allen Ryde's costume around, complete with my own hand-crafted goatee. It was pretty funny when my friends didn't even recognize me. A few pals told me they thought I was just some guy hanging around our crowd, until they actually walked up and took a good look. I found that hilarious.

Look, we understand basic human science stuff. You grow old, your genitals get hairy, hormones rampage, and your metabolism slows down. Physical changes are inevitable. Still, that doesn't mean that some physical changes are more mind-blowing than others.
Daniel Dockery: 6 Classic Movies That Are Famous For the Wrong Reasons (Cracked)
Great movies tend to collect in the pool of pop culture's subconscious, available to be referenced and paid homage to for years to come. And, in some cases, identifiable elements of them will become more prevalent than the movies themselves. You don't have to see The Godfather to know that a guy made some really sweet offers in it.

With Six You Get Eggroll was directed by Howard "Howie" Morris, who is probably better remembered for his role on The Andy Griffith Show as a rock-throwing, over the top "mountain man". What is the name of this eccentric character?
With Six You Get Eggroll (1968) is a romantic comedy film starring Doris Day and Brian Keith. The cast includes Barbara Hershey, George Carlin, and Pat Carroll. This was Day's final acting appearance in a feature film; her TV show The Doris Day Show premiered one month later in September 1968. This film also marks the feature acting debut of George Carlin.

Doris Day and George Carlin?
Deborah responded:
As far as I can tell, it's "With Six You Get Eggroll."
I remember seeing it in the theater but I don't remember if I liked it or not.
I'm a big fan of George Carlin (R.I.P.) though.
Calamity Lois Of Oregon replied:
In "With Six You Get Egg Rolls" George Carlin looked
amazingly like Mortimer Snerd! Never actually SAW that
movie, although I must admit to loving me a few of Doris
Day's, like her portrayal of Calamity Jane and, "Send Me No
Flowers"! That was pretty damn funny. Ah how I miss the
simple days of our innocent past when we were all convinced
Rock Hudson liked girls.
Daley of Diamond Springs, Norcali responded:
The next time you watch an old Doris Day movie, take a look at her ass! One of the all-time greatest Hollywood arses! My question is: Who was a bigger bitch…Doris day or Debbie Reynolds? I been slightly distracted…very busy…lately… She apparently had an affair with Maury Wills and a fling with Sly Stone.
DJ Useo answered:
I'm pretty sure it was "With 6, You Get Eggroll".
Been quite the long while since I saw that film. I recall I liked it.
I don't remember George Carlin being in it at all.
The male lead, Brian Keith perplexed me. I never understood his appeal.

"With Six You Get Eggroll." Never saw the movie, not big on Doris Day.
I really enjoyed your trivia question about Ikebana--nice to focus on beauty when MORE horrible weather is about to hit. But I would like to give a special thanks to MAM for talking about the divisions within Ikebana and providing beautiful examples of each. Thanks for the positive, focused, educational response.

We are all only temporarily able bodied.
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from

The demotion of the Nobel Peace Prize committee's chairman will not thaw Sino-Norway ties, Beijing said Wednesday amid a diplomatic deep freeze imposed by China after a prominent dissident was given the 2010 award.
Tuesday's removal of Nobel committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland from his post atop the high-profile panel spurred speculation of a potential rapprochement between Oslo and Beijing after more than four years of frosty ties.
Jagland, who will remain a committee member, was at the helm of the organisation when it awarded the 2010 peace prize to jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo, a move that enraged Beijing.
China later banned whole salmon imports from Norway, supposedly on safety grounds, and Norwegian citizens have been excluded from a 72-hour transit visa scheme.
Oslo's ambassador -- in post since 2007 -- has reportedly been unable to return home for fear that if he leaves, his successor will not be granted a visa.

Maybe donuts and Duff Beer are the secret to mathematical brilliance.
It turns out "Simpsons" patriarch Homer Simpson came very close to predicting the mass of the Higgs boson, a particle first theorized to exist in the 1960's, but only truly discovered in 2012.
In "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace," a 1998 episode of the long-running Fox series, Homer experiences a mid-life crisis and sets out to emulate the work of inventor Thomas Edison. During this process, he is seen working out a series of complex equations on a blackboard. According to physicist Simon Singh, the equations are those used to predict the mass of the Higgs particle.
"If you work it out, you get the mass of a Higgs boson that's only a bit larger than the nano-mass of a Higgs boson actually is," Singh said in a recent interview. "It's kind of amazing as Homer makes this prediction 14 years before it was discovered."
New York City will add two Muslim holidays to its public school calendars, making it the largest school district in the United States to do so, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Wednesday.
Starting next fall, New York City's 1.1 million students in the nation's biggest public school system will get days off for the most-observed holidays in Islam, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
"This is a common sense change, and one that recognizes our growing Muslim community and honors its contributions to our City," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement.
New York, which counts about 1 million Muslim residents across its five boroughs, joins cities in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont that recognize the holidays.

The world's oldest person says 117 years doesn't seem like such a long time.
Misao Okawa, the daughter of a kimono maker, made the comment Wednesday, at a celebration a day before her 117th birthday. Appropriately, she was wearing a pink kimono decorated with cherry blossom prints.
Okawa, born in Osaka on March 5, 1898, was recognized as the world's oldest person by Guinness World Records in 2013.
"It seemed rather short," she said after Osaka government official Takehiro Ogura, who brought her a big bouquet, asked how she felt about living for 117 years.
Asked for the secret of her longevity, she responded nonchalantly, "I wonder about that too."
U.S. transportation safety investigators said on Wednesday they are reviewing a request to reopen a probe into the 1959 airplane crash that killed musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson, better known as "The Big Bopper," and their pilot.
The original investigation 56 years ago conducted by the Civil Aeronautics Board blamed the crash on the pilot's decision to embark on an instrument-guided flight he was not certified for and, secondarily, on poor weather briefing.
The NTSB received a request recently from pilot L.J. Coon to reconsider the decision, the Mason City Globe Gazette reported.
Petitions must be based on the discovery of new evidence or on a showing that the findings are erroneous and not on previously advanced positions, according to NTSB regulations.
Holly and the others had just completed a concert in Clear Lake, Iowa, on Feb. 2, 1959 and because they had experienced bus trouble on the tour, opted to charter a small airplane to the next tour date in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Paul Allen and his research team have found the wreckage of a massive Japanese World War II battleship off the Philippines near where it sank more than 70 years ago, he said Wednesday.
The apparent discovery of the Musashi, one of the largest battleships in history, comes as the world marks the 70th anniversary of the war's end.
Allen and the team aboard his superyacht M/Y Octopus found the ship on Sunday, more than eight years after their search began, Allen said in a statement issued by his publicity agency, Edelman.
Detailed images captured by a high-definition camera mounted on an underwater probe confirmed the wreckage as that of the Musashi, it said. Allen said on his website that the video and still images showed a valve wheel with Japanese letters saying "main valve handle" which used to be in a lower engineering area, a catapult system used to launch planes, a large gun turret, and one of the ship's two 15-ton anchors. He said the team also found the ship's bow.
The Musashi, commissioned in 1942, sank in October 1944 in the Sibuyan Sea during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, losing about half of its 2,400 crew members. The ship was repeatedly hit by torpedoes and bombs dropped by planes from Allied aircraft carriers.

Close to 700 koalas have been killed off by authorities in southeastern Australia because overpopulation led to the animals starving, an official said Wednesday, sparking claims of mismanagement.
Victoria state Environment Minister Lisa Neville said the koalas were euthanised around Cape Otway near the scenic tourist drawcard the Great Ocean Road, in 2013 and 2014, with a caravan site owner saying the whole area "smelt like death" before they were put down.
"The intervention was necessary to prevent suffering of koalas because they weren't able to find enough food," Neville said in a statement.
Neville said 686 koalas were found to be in poor health and were humanely killed by veterinarians in consultation with koala experts and animal welfare personnel.

An ancient jawbone fragment is the oldest human fossil discovered yet, a bone potentially from a new species that reveals the human family may have arose a half million years earlier than previously thought, researchers say.
Although modern humans are the only human lineage alive today, other human species once roamed the Earth. These extinct lineages were members of the genus Homo just as modern humans are.
For decades, scientists have been searching Africa for signs of the earliest phases of the human family, during the shift from more apelike Australopithecus species to more human early Homo species. Until now, the earliest credible fossil evidence of the genus Homo was dated to about 2.3 million or 2.4 million years ago.
Now researchers have found a human fossil in Ethiopia about 2.8 million years old. The scientists detail their findings in two papers online today (March 4) in the journal Science.

Canadians have been asked to stop drawing Leonard Nimoy-inspired Mr Spock pictures on their $5 bank notes.
For years, fans of the famous Star Trek character have been scribbling on the face of former PM Wilfrid Laurier - Canada's first Francophone prime minister - on $5 banknotes.
Canada's central bank said earlier in the week that it was not illegal to add Spock's pointy Vulcan ears, sharp eyebrows and signature bowl haircut to the notes.
However, it did encourage citizens to stop their scribbling.
The acceleration of the trend followed the actor's death on Friday with social media users posting their own versions of Laurier's Vulcan makeover in honour of their hero.
