Legendary choreographer dies (arts.guardian.co.uk)
French choreographer Maurice Béjart, considered one of the great figures in contemporary dance, died yesterday at the age of 80, a spokeswoman for Béjart Ballet Lausanne said.
Maurice Bejart, 80; innovative choreographer of modern ballet (latimes.com)
From age 14, he trained at the school of the Marseilles Opera Ballet where, he told The Times, he remembered being the only boy in a class of 25 to 30 girls. "It was not right," he said. "Life is a balance between men and women. If I push the boys [as a choreographer], it is because there still needs to be a reaction against the prejudice that it is not good for men to dance."

Leo S was a close second, with:
Cleo died at 39. It was believed that she had allowed herself to be bitten by an asp (an Egytptian cobra). The Egyptian religion declared that death by snakebite would make one immortal.
Sandra in Bangor was third, but wrong -
cleopatra was 17
Alan J was fourth with a succinct:
Cleo died at the age of 39.
joe b also missed it -
I`ll say 31 at least she looked that old on HBO`s Rome.
mj missed it, too, with:
D, and that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Joe ("You laugh because I'm different. I laugh because you're all the same.) was also correct with:
The answer being E: 39. I know I'm not even close to being first today, but I didn't turn on my computer until 4:00 pm. But what-the-heck, I'm addicted to this game already.
And, Sally P said:
Ah, Cleopatra, that well-known historical vixen, died at the ripe old age of XXXIX or, as you youngsters say nowadays, 39 (E)! Allegedly, she was bitten in the ass - no, wait, she was bitten by an asp - and it just killed her.

Willie Nelson is looking to become dog's best friend. The country music star has filmed a television spot supporting an anti-dogfighting bill that is moving through the Georgia Legislature.
In the ad, Nelson looks into the camera while "Georgia on My Mind" plays in the background.
"Dogfighting is against the law in Georgia, but the laws are so weak, the beautiful state of Georgia has become a haven for dogfighters from around the country," he says.
The bill would make it a felony for anyone to sell, trade or transport dogs for the purpose of dogfighting.
The former US president Jimmy Carter Saturday proposed a compromise between Nepal's government and former Maoist rebels to break the deadlock in a stalled peace process here.
The former rebels, who ended a decade of civil war a year ago and took key government posts in a landmark peace deal, want the immediate abolition of the monarchy. They are also demanding full proportional voting contrary to a mixed first-past-the-post and proportional representation system previously agreed.
Carter told reporters at a hotel in Kathmandu that the interim Nepal parliament should vote for a Republic immediately and the outcome could be ratified by a new government following elections.
Carter also suggested that the present political stalemate could be ended by allotting "70 percent of the constituent assembly seats by proportional representation and 30 percent by first-past-the-post."

U2 stars Bono and The Edge showed up unannounced and played as a warmup act at a charity concert in London.
The show delighted the 250 people who had attended the fundraiser on Friday night for Mencap, a charity that campaigns for equal rights for children and adults with learning disabilities.
"Don't tell Larry (Mullen) and Adam (Clayton) we've done this," Bono joked about his other two band mates from the small stage at Union Chapel.
Bono and The Edge - performing as a warmup act for Biffy Clyro, a Scottish rock group - played four of their songs: "Stay," "Desire," "Angel Of Harlem" and "Wave Of Sorrow," a track written for their 1987 album "Joshua Tree."
Russian authorities arrested former world chess champion Garry Kasparov on Saturday and sentenced him to five days in prison after he helped lead a protest against President Vladimir Putin that ended in clashes with police.
Kasparov, one of President Vladimir Putin's harshest critics, was charged with organizing an unsanctioned procession of at least 1,500 people against Putin, chanting anti-government slogans and resisting arrest, court documents said. His assistant said he was beaten during the demonstration.
At the hastily organized trial, two police testified that they had been ordered before the rally to arrest Kasparov.
The Kremlin has mounted a major campaign to orchestrate a crushing victory for Putin's United Russia party in Dec. 2 parliamentary elections - perhaps to ensure that Putin can continue to rule Russia even after he steps down as president in May. The constitution prevents him from serving three consecutive terms.

Linda Hogan has filed for divorce from her wrestler husband Hulk Hogan, a newspaper reported Friday.
Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, told the St. Petersburg Times that he had no idea his wife had filed for divorce. He was informed by a reporter that Pinellas County court records showed that the paperwork was submitted Tuesday.
"Thank you for the great information," he told the reporter.
"My wife has been in California for about three weeks. ... Holy smokes," Bollea later told the newspaper. "Wow, you just knocked the bottom out of me."
ABC's "Lost" star Daniel Dae Kim entered an initial plea of not guilty to a drunken driving charge Friday.
Kim, 39, who plays Jin-Soo Kwon on the TV show, was arrested Oct. 25 when a Honolulu police officer spotted him driving erratically.
His driver's license was revoked Nov. 16 for six months, said Ronald Sakata, chief adjudicator for the Administrative Driver's License Revocation Office.
"He made an apology to the state, the people of Hawaii and his fans," defense attorney Patrick McPherson said outside the courtroom. "He pleaded not guilty and requested a trial date." Kim did not appear with his attorney at the arraignment.

A former beverage manager at the Hard Rock Hotel has sued Dennis Rodman, claiming the ex-NBA star assaulted her last year by rubbing against her body and slapping her on the buttocks.
In her federal lawsuit filed last week, Sara Robinson also accuses her former employer of retaliating against her after she complained about Rodman's behavior.
"As Robinson stepped around the bar, Rodman grabbed her, pulled her towards him and rubbed his body against hers," the lawsuit alleges. "Robinson tried to get free from Rodman's grasp at which time he assaulted her by reaching down and slapping her open-handed on the bottom."
The complaint, which seeks unspecified damages, claims that Robinson was fired after she filled out a voluntary statement detailing Rodman's actions in a subsequent incident at the same bar the next month in which he is also accused of causing a scene.
A column of the temple of Hera in the archeological site of ancient Olympia, as the burned hill of Kronos, is seen in the background, southern Greece, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007. A group of Greek and international scientists visited the World Heritage site Saturday to deliver funds for reconstruction of the area, which was ravaged by the wildfires that destroyed vast tracts of forest in southern Greece in August and killed more than 65 people. Ancient Olympia survived virtually unscathed, but the surrounding countryside was burnt. A large replanting effort is under way ahead of March 25, when the flame-lighting ceremony for the Beijing Olympics.

Someone in Italy placed the winning bid of $3.8 million on Friday for an unpopulated, one-house Texas town auctioned online.
No one lives permanently in the 13-acre town of Albert, about 60 miles north of San Antonio, but the tavern created from the frame of the old general store is open on weekends.
The town also includes a pavilion, an 85-year-old dance hall, a tractor shed, a three-bedroom house, plus peach and pecan orchards.
The reserve price for the town was $2.5 million. Even if the deal doesn't go through, owner Bobby Cave said he has about five other prospective buyers genuinely interested in the town.
Australia's incoming Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, a Mandarin-speaking former diplomat, has pledged closer ties with key friends and allies after sweeping away 11 years of conservative rule under John Howard.
Rudd, 50, presented himself as a new generation leader by promising to pull around 500 frontline Australian troops out of Iraq and sign the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, further isolating Washington on both issues.
The surge to Labor left Howard battling to win even his own parliamentary seat, which he has held since 1974, putting him in danger of becoming the first prime minister since 1929 to lose his constituency.
