Even as Conrad Murray was marched off in handcuffs after his conviction last week for involuntary manslaughter, legal analysts and the district attorney himself pointed out that Murray was unlikely to serve an "appropriate sentence." The maximum sentence for his crime is four years, but even if the judge throws the book at him on November 29, it will be largely meaningless. The truth is that he probably will serve almost no time in jail.
Roger Ebert: Review of "Melancholia" (3 ½ stars; rated R)
Lars von Trier's "Melancholia" opens with music from Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," mourning and apocalyptic, and disturbing images of a world not right. A woman dressed as a bride runs through a forest whose branches seem to grab at her in a Disney nightmare. She floats in a pond, holding flowers, like Ophelia. Another woman makes her way with a child over marshy grass that sucks at her. Looming in the sky is another planet, vast in size. The Earth is about to end.
Roger Ebert: Review of "Shadow of a Doubt" (A Great Movie; 1943)
No one would ever accuse Alfred Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt" of being plausible, but it is framed so distinctively in the Hitchcock style that it plays firmly and never breaks out of the story.

Chocolate - The scientific name, Theobroma, means "food of the gods".

mj was first, and correct, with:
What else in the world could it be?
Chocolate.

Cacao
Jim from CA, retired to ID, replied:
Theobroma cacao also cacao tree and cocoa tree, is a small (4-8 m or 15-26
ft tall) evergreen tree in the family Sterculiaceae (alternatively
Malvaceae), native to the deep tropical region of the Americas. Its seeds
are used to make cocoa powder and chocolate.
BadtotheboneBob responded:
Cacao... whence chocolate is made... for which I'm very grateful... as I do love it so... Yum!... P.S. We have a place here in our nifty, clean and bustling little 'downtown' called 'The Sweet Boutique' that, as its name suggests, is a candy/pastry/coffee shop. I am a regular and often take 'The Ever Fabulous Maddie Muffin' there for treats (chiefly cookies and milk served in a clear espresso cup). Last Thursday we went and 'Lovely Laura', the regular barrista, gave the said Ms. Muffin a tour of the back room where they make their specialty candies. She emerged with a big grin. "It smelled so good, Grampa! I want it all!" Indeed...
Adam answered:
Ambrosia.
Cocoa.

Funny this is the question dejour. Okay, Cocoa (Theobroma cacao) means, "Food of the Gods."
Tonight, I have my grandchildren while the parents do their thing. Said parents want us to go out for dinner at a local Italian restaurant (their idea of fun for kids), but we want to buy some Lotto tickets (the scratch off kind), go next door to the restaurant, to the market, and buy a frozen pizza to heat, and top it off with some hot chocolate - as we always do in such situations! Then we all settle down for a movie - good times!
I even walk the evidence (pizza box and cocoa packs - losing tickets) down to the trash before the parents return!
Ooh, can't forget to bring some marshmallows for our complete night of decadence...
PS: Of course the parents know our tricks, but we all 'play along' and the kids love it. I started it when they were young, and started crying when the parents were leaving (note, not AFTER they were gone, just enough to impose some guilt on them). Now, we practically have to push the parents out the door because we can't wait to have our own fun!
Marian responded:
cocoa tree
Charlie answered:
Cacao, or chocolate.
Redlake replied:
BACON!
No, wait... cacao-cocoa-chocolate.

Been trying to keep the size down but couldn't resist a picture of a chocolate spa.

"Arrested Development" is coming back to life on the Netflix video streaming service.
The quirky TV comedy series is resuming production and will be available for instant viewing by Netflix subscribers in 2013, the company announced late Friday. "Arrested Development" aired on Fox for three seasons from 2003 to 2006.
The Emmy-winning show focused on the formerly wealthy Bluth family and featured Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera and Jeffrey Tambor in its cast. Netflix didn't specify which original cast members might be returning or say how many new episodes were planned.
Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Television will produce these new episodes for the online subscription service, reviving the series five years after the Fox broadcast network pulled the plug.

ABC announced its midseason premiere schedule Friday, revealing that the new series "GCB" (short for "Good Christian Belles," originally "Good Christian Bitches") will occupy the slot following "Desperate Housewives," debuting Sunday, March 4 at 10 p.m.
Some prominent omissions from the midseason schedule -- the freshman comedy "Man Up," which has been struggling in the ratings, and which now has "Work It" in its 8:30 p.m. Tuesday timeslot, and "Pan Am," which previously had been in the post-"Housewives" slot that "GCB" is filling.
The midseason premieres begin Tuesday, January 3 with the bow of "Work It." The much-anticipated "Celebrity Wife Swap" follows, and will occupy the Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot.
The Ashley Judd drama "Missing," meanwhile, will premiere Thursday, March 15, occupying the 8 p.m. timeslot.
The new season of "Dancing With the Stars," meanwhile, will premiere Monday, March 19 at 8 p.m.

But few shows can offer such a sizable collection to its fans, because "Law & Order" remains the longest-running crime drama in TV history.
All 20 seasons of producer Dick Wolf's iconic series -- that's 456 episodes and thousands of "doink doink" sound effects -- are included in the set, which also features deleted and extra scenes, a tribute to star Jerry Orbach, interviews with Wolf, Orbach, and stars Jesse L. Three rare oil paintings of synagogue interiors by Marc Chagall are going on the auction block in New York City.
Sotheby's auction house said Friday the paintings came to the market for the first time in 66 years from a descendent of art collector and original owner Max Cottin, who acquired them from the 1945 exhibition at the Gallery of Jewish Art in New York.
Only six finished oil paintings of synagogues by Chagall are known to exist.
Leading the group up for auction is his 1931 "Interior of the Yemenite HaGoral Synagogue, Jerusalem," estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000.

The attorney for Tony Alamo says the convicted evangelist has had a heart attack and been hospitalized.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that John Wesley Hall said during a court hearing in Arkansas that Alamo also has double pneumonia and a liver ailment.
The 77-year-old Alamo is serving a 175-year-prison sentence in Indiana after being convicted of taking young girls across state lines for sex.
The hearing was related to a civil lawsuit by six women who say Alamo took them as child "brides" and a seventh woman who says she was being groomed as his bride before she escaped his ministry in Fouke.
Video surfaced online Saturday showing an officer at a California university calmly pepper-spraying a line of several sitting protesters, who flinch and cover their faces but remain passive with their arms interlocked as onlookers shriek and scream out for the officer to stop.
The chancellor of the University of California, Davis described the video images as "chilling" and said she was forming a task force to investigate even as a faculty group called for her resignation because of the incident Friday.
The protest was held in support of the overall Occupy Wall Street movement and in solidarity with protesters at the University of California, Berkeley, who were jabbed by police with batons on Nov. 9.
The UC Davis video images, which were circulated on YouTube and widely online, prompted immediate outrage among faculty and students, with the Davis Faculty Association saying in a letter Saturday that Katehi should resign.
