Rabbi Feldman's BarMitzvah Speech March 9, 2013 at Temple Beth El (YouTube)
"An uplifting tribute to America. (And yes, not all rabbis have been bar mitzvahed - unless this guy was the last one left to be and now they all are.) And by the way? Just as he wondered throughout his boyhood why he was being punished simply for having been born Jewish, so must countless millions of kids wonder even to this day why they are being punished simply for having been born black or poor or gay or in any number of other ways "less than." Of course, to Americans - when we don't lose sight of our founding principles - we hold it to be a self-evident truth that they were born equal." - Andrew Tobias
Susan Estrich: The Minor Miracles of Democracy (Creators Syndicate)
Thursday was a critical day in our democracy. Five presidents of the United States gathered in Houston for the dedication of the George W. Bush library. One was his father , 89 years old and in a wheelchair. The other three were men of the opposite political party.
Scott Burns: Today, the Big Risk is in Bonds (AssetBuilder)
Few investment research reports become turning point documents. But I have kept one for nearly 30 years because it was so important and so powerful. It still says a lot to us today, but in reverse.
Lucy Mangan: No 3: The Milly-Molly-Mandy Stories by Joyce Lankester Brisley (Guardian)
I think the power of Milly-Molly-Mandy to comfort and compel will endure. The stories are simple, not stupid. They provide succour, not sentimentality. And if they spark a flicker of yearning within a child for a lost world, you can always point out that they only have to turn back to the first page for it to live again. That is what books are for.
Alex Law: Little Girls Are Better at Designing Superheroes Than You
"In Alex Law's latest project, he takes pictures of little girls in superhero costumes and makes comic book character designs from them, which is a turnabout of the way adults do it: cosplayers recreating comic books as accurately as possible. The kids have no problem with improving upon accuracy by adding what they have available and what they just plain like. After all, there's no real reason the Hulk can't wear a tutu!" - Miss Cellania of Neatorama

$1 eBook: 250 Anecdotes About Opera by David Bruce (Smashwords)
This book contains 250 anecdotes about opera, including this one: When Pierre Monteux started working at the Metropolitan Opera, he decided to buy a shiny Ford touring-car. He paid $300 for the car, which he was proud of at first, although it looked modest when parked beside the luxurious cars of the stars of the Met. However, the car did give Mr. Monteux trouble. One day, as he was driving it, the car developed engine trouble and stopped. Mr. Monteux got out of the car, tipped his hat to it, and walked away, never to return.

Alfred Hitchcock regularly made cameo appearances in his films, so how many times did he appear in an installment of his Alfred Hitchcock Presents television show (aside from his personal introductions and closings)?
Alfred Hitchcock Presents is an American television anthology series hosted by Alfred Hitchcock. The series featured dramas, thrillers, and mysteries. By the time the show premiered on October 2, 1955, Hitchcock had been directing films for over three decades. Time magazine named Alfred Hitchcock Presents one of "The 100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME".
Alfred Hitchcock regularly made cameo appearances in his films. However, only once did he appear in an installment of his Alfred Hitchcock Presents television show (aside from his personal introductions and closings). The one cameo was in the 1958 episode of the third season titled "Dip in the Pool". At 5:15 minutes into the episode, Hitchcock appears on the cover of a magazine being read by Mr. Renshaw (Philip Bourneuf).

PS: @B2BB. There is a Saturday night radio show that spins the 'oldies' and features interviews with old time celebrities. Old time DJ Casey Kasem is often a guest, or calls in to chat with a guest. He may be 80, but his voice is still the same... Those were the days my friend...

In the new translation of "Star Wars," Darth Vader is Luke's bizhe'e.
The classic 1977 film that launched a science fiction empire and revealed the force within a farm boy who battles evil has been dubbed in Japanese, French, Spanish and about a dozen other languages. Add Navajo to the list.
Manuelito Wheeler, the director of the Navajo Nation Museum who reached out to Lucasfilm Ltd. with the idea, has a very good feeling about this. He sees it as entertaining, educational and a way to preserve the Navajo language at a time when fewer tribal members are speaking it.
Native languages on the big screen are a rarity. Independent films and documentaries at film festivals have been in the tongue of American Indian tribes. Yet it's far less common to see it done in mainstream movies and shown in commercial theaters. "Bambi" was dubbed in the Arapaho language, and the cartoon series "The Berenstain Bears" was translated into the Dakota and Lakota languages.
A team of five Navajo speakers spent 36 hours translating the script for "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," and now they're looking for fluent Navajo speakers to fill some two dozen roles. Casting calls are scheduled Monday in Burbank, Calif., and May 3 and 4 - the unofficial "Star Wars" holiday - at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Ariz.

Despite unexpectedly low ratings for Thursday's airing of the backdoor pilot for "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff, "The Originals," The CW has ordered the show to series.
Additionally, "Beauty and the Beast" and "Hart of Dixie" have been renewed for a second season and third season, respectively.
They join previously renewed scripted series, "The Vampire Diaries," "Supernatural," and "Arrow."
Taking to Facebook, the U.S. ambassador to Australia is urging Australians to cease their illegal downloads of "Game of Thrones", saying that they are among the world's worst pirates of the wildly popular medieval television drama.
In a post titled "Stopping the Game of Clones", Jeffrey Bleich - himself a devotee of the HBO series - compared the rampant piracy of online thieves to the plotting and machinations of the noble houses in the show.
"Unfortunately, nearly as epic and devious as the drama is its unprecedented theft by online viewers around the world," he wrote on his official Facebook page.
"As the ambassador here in Australia, it was especially troubling to find out that Australian fans were some of the worst offenders with among the highest piracy rates of 'Game of Thrones' in the world".
TorrentFreak, a file-sharing news website, estimated that Game of Thrones was the most pirated TV series in 2012, with one episode notching 4.28 million pirated downloads, equal to the number of broadcast viewers for that episode, Bleich said.

A once-secret bunker built to shelter Yugoslavia's communist leadership from nuclear war has temporarily reopened as an art gallery, with some exhibits pondering what would have happened if more mushroom clouds had hit the world's skies.
The 280-meter- (920 foot) deep, U-shaped complex is dug into a mountain and took 26 years and billions of dollars to build; for years, only the late Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito and his closest confidantes knew the subterranean fortress existed.
The secret was revealed when Bosnia broke away from Yugoslavia in 1992. The new army took over and still owns the labyrinth just outside Konjic, 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Sarajevo. The space had never really been put to use until in recent years artists turned to authorities with an idea to put this sleepy town on the cultural map.
In 2011, the bunker was opened up for three months as an art gallery. This year's run, which began Friday, also is for three months, and artists from 19 countries have worked hard on performances and projects on display in almost 100 rooms of the facility, project director Edo Hozic said.
The entrance to the bunker, which is supposed to hold 300 people, lies behind a nondescript garage door of a remote house at the end of a lonely road east of Konjic.
A national group of prominent GOP donors that supports gay marriage is pouring new money into lobbying efforts to get Republican lawmakers to vote to make it legal.
American Unity PAC was formed last year to lend financial support to Republicans who bucked the party's longstanding opposition to gay marriage. Its founders are launching a new lobbying organization, American Unity Fund, and already have spent more than $250,000 in Minnesota, where the Legislature could vote on the issue as early as next week.
Billionaire hedge fund manager and Republican donor Paul Singer launched American Unity PAC. The lobbying effort is the next phase as the push for gay marriage spreads to more states, spokesman Jeff Cook-McCormac told The Associated Press.
Though only one current GOP officeholder in Minnesota is on record supporting gay marriage, a handful of prominent Republicans have spoken out in favor of it. They include former state auditor Pat Anderson and Brian McClung, who was spokesman for former Gov. Tim Pawlenty. Prominent Republican donors including former politician Wheelock Whitney and businesswoman Marilyn Carlson Nelson have also lent support and donated money.

Reports that the late German actor Horst Tappert, best known for his longtime role as dapper TV sleuth Stefan Derrick, served in a feared Nazi SS unit prompted at least one European broadcaster to announce Saturday that it would drop the show's reruns from its schedule.
Dutch TV station MAX pulled reruns of the show, which was produced from 1974 to 1998, after daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published documents Friday showing the actor had been in the SS during World War II.
"Derrick" was one of the most widely syndicated German TV shows, broadcast in over 100 countries including China, Australia, France and Norway.
Tappert had spoken of his wartime service as a medic in an interview 10 years before his death in 2008. But he didn't mention that his unit was part of the elite SS Armored Infantry Regiment 1, nicknamed the "Skulls" after the emblem they wore.

As ridiculous as that sounds, it's not the only recent time someone has called 911 to report on a cat. Back in February, a Washington State man called 911 to report on a stray cat that had wandered into his back yard. But, at least in that case, the man was calling out of concern for the cat's welfare (it was cold outside), rather than to complain about its mere presence.

Police in Tacoma could soon be in real trouble over pot.
The department could be found in contempt if they continue to refuse to return a small amount of marijuana seized from a man after a traffic stop. Municipal Court Judge Jack Emery repeated an order to police Thursday to return the drug to Joseph L. Robertson within seven days or they could be found in contempt.
The judge first ordered police to return the drug on Feb. 28, but they have refused, The News Tribune reported Friday.
It was seized in May of last year when an officer pulled over the Tacoma man for speeding. He was cited for driving without a license and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Prosecutors dismissed the drug charge in December, after state voters decided to legalize small amounts of the drug.
Robertson then asked for his pot back, and provided proof of medical marijuana authorization. The city refused, which led to Emery's Feb. 28 order. If the matter is not settled by the May 2 hearing, it could go to higher courts.
Although the judge said he thinks "there's contemptuous behavior here," Emery added that the case was "a quagmire," due to the conflicting provisions of state and federal law.

Authorities say the classic Chevrolet convertible featured in the film "Pulp Fiction" has been found nearly two decades after it was stolen.
The San Bernardino County Sun reports movie director Quentin Tarantino's 1964 Chevelle Malibu was recovered in the San Francisco Bay area earlier this week.
John Travolta's character drove the cherry red car in the movie.
Sheriff's Sgt. Albert Anolin said an investigation into an old Malibu in the desert city of Victorville on April 18 led detectives to another Malibu in the Oakland area. They then confirmed that vehicle belonged to Tarantino and was reported stolen in 1994.
