Ten years ago, I was sitting at the bar of a VFW Post with a guy named Manny. Manny, who was 68, went out one night a week, with his son, and consumed three beers. He couldn't afford more, and his son couldn't afford to buy either of them a fourth beer. Manny spent his life working on the loading dock of a chemical company.
Kathy Benjamin: 5 Reason Pyramid Schemes are Even Worse Than You Thought (Guardian)
If you have any female friends on Facebook between the ages of 18 and 60, you are probably bombarded with offers from "independent salespeople" for makeup and jewelry and essential oils on a daily basis. These schemes are HUGE right now, with 10 million people in the US (and 20 million worldwide) estimated to be involved with multi-level marketing (MLM) companies.
Resembling a twisted teardrop, this design of Persian origin, uses the boteh or buta motif. Its western name is derived from a town in West Scotland. What do we call this pattern in English?
Before this actor was accident-prone Captain Wilton Parmenter, he was in the Special Services Corps, under the command of Sergeant Leonard Nimoy. What is his name?
Kenneth Ronald "Ken" Berry (born November 3, 1933) is an American sitcom actor, dancer and singer. Berry has appeared in multiple television shows, one with his friend and mentor, Andy Griffith. Berry starred in the successful comedies F Troop, The Andy Griffith Show spin-off Mayberry R.F.D., and The Carol Burnett Show spin-off Mama's Family.
Berry's second and final year in the army was as a part of the Special Services Corps, under the command of Sergeant Leonard Nimoy. As a part of Special Services, he toured Army posts and officers' clubs entertaining the troops, as well as visiting colleges for recruiting purposes.
In 1968, Berry was cast in a guest starring role on The Andy Griffith Show as Sam Jones, a widowed farmer. He would take over the lead role. Griffith's character receded, and he left the show during its second season. In 1968 Berry led the cast of the newly titled Mayberry R.F.D.. Since many of the actors who played the regular characters stayed with the show when Griffith left, the continuity kept the ratings high. In spite of finishing 15th place for season three, Mayberry R.F.D. was canceled in 1971 in what was called "the rural purge", where shows set in a bucolic locale (The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Petticoat Junction) were replaced with the more "hip" fare of Norman Lear (All In The Family) and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Berry married Jackie Joseph, a Billy Barnes castmate on May 29, 1960. They divorced in 1976.

I'm really not trying to "change your mind" about all medicine, and I
do believe in science as a quicker-healer. if I've ever had a bad
infection, I wanted anti-biotics to help (though in the long run, that
poses its own risk for us all). If I cut myself, just for the hell of
it, I use soap, clean water, and Neosporin. If my gout acts up, I
still will use the Allopurinal (though they pulled perfectly
functional Colchasine off the market shelves so that a latest version
-- that was only freshly under patent and 5 times the cost would have
no competition), but when the disease management of medical science
becomes a major revenue source for the money-masters, it can no longer
stay above the fray of economic manipulation even to the mass death of
its intended users, and ultimately bad medical science is imposed on
us all so that rich people can live more comfortably.
I'm not even one-size-fits-all AGAINST vaccines ... I just think it
should be the patient's choice. If I choose not to vaccinate and you
do, and you live while I die, then that's my own fault. But if my
child gets the measles because i chose to stay away from some vaccine,
I feed that child a proper diet and they get over it with no problem,
does it become my fault when some other newborn develops autism
because of a bad batch of vaccines? Since they're supposed to be the
protected ones, why is the vaccinated population even concerned about
my unvaccinated ass (actually I caught Measles naturally, and really
do have a life-long immunity)? In my defense, my choice is very
un-religious, and quite statistical (statistics plays a real big part
in science).
So tell me, who wants to play roulette with autism, or scores of other
vaccine-induced maladies? It all comes down to whose statistics you
prefer to believe, that produced by corporate pharmaceuticals or those
discovered in plain sight by the "Minority Reporters"? Virtually all
vaccine-Nazis (which includes the CDC) are very well funded by the
eugenics-involved, pharmaceutical industry. They end up living quite
well in an enclosed community, while a bunch of white-trash and
niggers outside their walls die from a number unintended consequences
that vaccines DO cause. Economic Darwinism.
The world is currently spilling over with too much poisonous
infrastructure. The 1%ers see this and proclaim among themselves
"Them retched hoi-polloi are destroying my planet with all this deadly
infrastructure needed to sustain their own miserable lives!" So
they're continuing to bottle-neck all the world's most deadly
infrastructure so it can't defensively fall into the hands of a
population they fully intend to cull ... by the billions.
Which side of the fence will you (or your child(ren) be sitting on
Marty, when -- as happened to tens-of-millions of people during the
great "Spanish" flu epidemic -- more than half the planet's human
population is commanded (by way of innoculation) to simply "DIE OFF?"
Know any REALLY RICH people you can slave your family off to? Perhaps
they'll gift you some of the real antidotes.
As I said, sorry Marty, it's just that I'm a statistically wacky
conspiracy theorist, please forgive me.
DanD
Er, thanks, again, Dan.
Oddly, my great-grandfather (on my mother's side) died during the 'Spanish' flu epidemic.
He was a healthy 36-year old man, an engineer for the railroad. Left a young widow with 6 kids under 10.
She had to turn the family home into a boarding house. Not many of the stories are pretty.
Had a vaccine been offered, my great-grandmother & her kids would have been at the front of the line, waiting.
Besides, there are cheaper, easier, and more efficient ways to cause a mass die-off than vaccines.
It always goes back to the bottom line.

An average of nearly 2 million people watched the premiere of Conan In Cuba on opening night. TBS's unveiling of Conan O'Brian's historic trip to Cuba logged 1.3 million viewers in its 11 PM ET premiere on Wednesday, after which the network immediately ran it again, posting another 510,000 viewers. For comparison sake, 642,000 watched O'Brien's late night show, Conan one night earlier. The first telecast alone ranks No. 31 among all of Conan's telecasts to date. Expect the special's crowd to grow as additional viewing is factored in, including not just last night's repeat telecast, but also DVR viewing, viewing on other platforms, etc.
Some context: In the first quarter of '15, Conan clocked an average of 807,000 viewers - 255,000 in the 18-34-year-old age bracket.
During last night's special, Conan mocked CNN, learned the importance of the Cuban clave beat and wowed a band with his 8th grade Spanish skills, mastered the Spanish tongue twister about three sad tigers, sampled rum - a lot - with guide Gretel, took an intensive lesson to master the erotic rumba, and visited the famous waterfront promenade where Cuban youth shared with him their rum - in a box - and cigarettes, which Conan speculated cost him all his show sponsors.

George Clooney's wife is joining the faculty of Columbia University as a visiting lecturer.
Columbia announced Friday lawyer Amal Clooney will lecture on human rights this spring. She also will serve as a senior fellow with its law school's Human Rights Institute.
Clooney served as a senior adviser to Kofi Annan when he was the U.N.'s envoy on Syria. She also represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in extradition proceedings.
The Clooneys married in September. They're based in London, but he's filming "Money Monster" with Julia Roberts in New York this spring. Jodie Foster is directing.

Bill Maher
Bill Maher expressed his anger Friday at the media's unequal coverage of the multiple exaggerations and questionable stories Bill O'Reilly 's told over the years compared to the Brian Williams controversy.
Maher went through the list of stories that've come out in the last few weeks where O'Reilly's statements have been countered by his former colleagues, and in one case, an audio tape.
"These are out and out lies-now I understand why Fox News backs him because they're not really a news service," Maher said. "But why isn't the mainstream media going after him with the same ferocity-the supposedly liberal media-as they did Brian Williams?" Maher asked.
Maher's panel answered O'Reilly making things up isn't really a news story since nobody thinks he's telling the truth at all times, but Maher remained indignant.
"There is no grey area here," Maher concluded, saying there's proof O'Reilly wasn't on the doorstep of Lee Harvey Oswald associate Georgede Mohrenschild when he committed suicide, nor reported from the Falklands war combat zone, as he said he did.

The Polish Film Academy has added its voice to the campaign calling for the release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, who is being held in jail in Russia on terrorism charges.
At the ceremony for the academy's Eagle Awards this week, Dariusz Jablonski, academy president, led a protest designed to draw attention to the plight of Sentsov, who was initially detained in his native Crimea, following its annexation by Russia. At Jablonski's request, guests raised signs reading "I am Oleg Sentsov" as an act of solidarity with the filmmaker.
Olena Leonenko, a Polish artist born in Kiev, told Sentsov's story to the ceremony's guests and the TV audience watching at home. Sentsov had protested against the annexation of Crimea. Arrested and taken to Moscow, he has been held in the Lefortovo prison without trial for more than nine months. He faces 17 years in prison for alleged acts of terrorism. As Sentsov himself stated in his speech in court, which was screened at the ceremony, despite beatings, torture and threats of rape, he did not confess to any of the charges and did not renounce his Ukrainian citizenship.
The Polish Film Academy has posted on its website pictures of leading Polish filmmakers standing with "I am Oleg Sentsov" placards in front of a photograph of Sentsov standing behind bars.
Randall Miller had just begun shooting the Gregg Allman biographical movie "Midnight Rider" when the production turned into a nightmare - a freight train travelling 55 mph plowed into the director's crew on a Georgia railroad bridge, injuring six film workers and killing a young camera assistant.
A year later, Miller is scheduled to stand trial along with his business partner wife and the movie's executive producer in a rare case of filmmakers being prosecuted for deaths on their sets. A jury in rural Wayne County will have to decide if the train collision that killed 27-year-old Sarah Jones was an accident or the result of a criminal act. And if a crime occurred, which of the defendants, if any, should take the blame?
Miller, his wife Jody Savin and executive producer Jay Sedrish face up to 11 years in a Georgia prison if convicted of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing. They have all pleaded not guilty.
CSX Transportation, the railroad company that owns the bridge where the crash occurred, has said it twice denied the filmmakers permission to shoot footage on its tracks in rural southeast Georgia. Under state law, someone can be convicted of involuntary manslaughter for committing a misdemeanour - in this case trespassing - that unintentionally causes another person to be killed.

Police in the Cayman Islands searched on Saturday for a popular Marvel and DC Comics artist from the Boston region who disappeared while snorkeling with his wife.
Authorities said that Norman Lee was swimming near the eastern coast of Grand Cayman when he became separated from his wife late Thursday morning. Officer Mark Miller said in a phone interview that authorities were planning to resume their search for Lee after not finding any trace of him for the past two days. Volunteer divers have been helping with the search amid heavy currents.
Police said Lee was last seen about 250 yards (230 meters) from the coast while still snorkeling.
He began working on the Wolverine Annual for Marvel Comics in the late 1990s and most recently worked on other titles including Avengers and X-Men. He also illustrated works including Supergirl and Starman for DC Comics.

Kubra Khademi was just 4 years old the first time she was molested by a stranger on the street, and recalls thinking one thing: "I wish my underwear was made of iron."
So more than 20 years later she donned a suit of armor with large breasts and buttocks and wore it on the streets of Kabul to protest Afghanistan's endemic harassment.
The eight-minute performance was not well received: She is now in hiding and afraid for her life. But after a lifetime of being pinched and prodded on the streets - and being told to keep quiet about it - the 27 year old is determined to break her deeply conservative society's silence on sexual harassment.
Women, even those who wear the all-encompassing burka, regularly endure verbal abuse and unwanted touching in Afghanistan, where the fight for gender equality is still in its infancy. After more than a decade of activism, girls are still sold into marriage, domestic violence goes largely unpunished, and few women occupy positions of public responsibility.
JJerdon's Babbler in Myanmar. A scientific team from WCS, Myanmarâs Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division (MOECAF) , and National University of Singapore (NUS) has rediscovered a bird previously thought to be extinct. Jerdonâ's babbler (Chrysomma altirostre) had not been seen in Myanmar since July 1941, where it was last found in grasslands near the town of Myitkyo, Bago Region near the Sittaung River. The rediscovery was described in the recently published issue of Birding Asia, the magazine of the Oriental Bird Club. The team found the bird on 30 May 2014 while surveying a site around an abandoned agricultural station that still contained some grassland habitat. After hearing the birdâs distinct call, the scientists played back a recording and were rewarded with the sighting of an adult Jerdon's babbler. Over the next 48 hours, the team repeatedly found Jerdonâs babblers at several locations in the immediate vicinity and managed to obtain blood samples and high-quality photographs.
