Marc Dion: "Bill (O'Reilly) I Will" (Creators Syndicate)
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, is among those friends of mine I never got to meet. A truthteller with a gift for rhyme and whimsy, Seuss gave the world "Green Eggs and Ham," and, with all respect due to the good doctor, I offer a re-write for FOX news sneering head Bill O'Reilly, who spun a pretty good story of his own heroics while covering the Falklands War.
Paul Krugman: The Closed Minds Problem (NY Times Blog)
When I was a young economist trying to build a career, I lived - or thought I lived - in a world in which ideas and those who championed them met in relatively open intellectual combat.
Paul Krugman: "Friday Night Music: Forever Young" (NY Times Blog)
Seriously, it wasn't until reading some of the commentary that it sank in just how innovative, how progressive in all senses, the persona Nimoy created really was. Interracial in the extreme sense - interspecies! Hyperrational in style, but obviously deeply passionate and a bit tormented under the surface. Brainy but heroic. He was two generations ahead of his time.
Jason Iannone: 7 Unexpected Realities of Being a Pro Wrestling Referee (Cracked)
In addition to complaining about pro wrestling, I sometimes participate in the sport. I've been an extremely part-time referee on various independent wrestling shows since 2007, making a grand total of one month's rent in the process. But I don't do it for the money, or for any hopes of full-time employment (especially after all the mean things I said about the senile old walkingfart who owns WWE). I do it for the experience -- and goddamn is indie wrestling ever an experience.
Every time I look in the rear-view mirror, I see Robert Redford.

McQueen's name somehow appeared on President Richard Nixon's "List of Enemies" in 1972. In reality, McQueen was conservative in his political beliefs, with a strong belief in self-help. In 1963, he had declined to participate in the March on Washington for civil rights and, in 1968, he refused to join many of his Hollywood peers in supporting Senator Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign. An incredulous Ali MacGraw asked McQueen how he could have been considered a threat by Nixon, adding, "You are the most patriotic person I know!" McQueen responded to the whole affair by flying an enormous American flag outside his house.

Charlie was first, and correct, with:
Steve McQueen.
Hmm... and what does Robert Redford see?
Lois Of The Silver Screen Door In Oregon said:
Thought this was a trick question! Why, Robert Redford of
course would see Robert Redford in the rear view mirror as
he was driving, and then rear-end Paul Newman in the studio
parking lot, 'cause he couldn't stop looking at himself. And
who could? Oh what a beautiful man. However, turns out the
answer is Steve McQueen, admitting that he would soon be
replaced as a matinee idol by an actor who was handsome and
talented, unlike Steve himself, who, sadly, was not.
Here are some examples of Steve's impressive range of
characterization, from "huh?" to "huh!" to "hmmmmmm". He
will be missed.
On a personal note: Leonard Nimoy may have died, but Mr.
Spock will endure forever in our hearts and minds, symbolic
of the best part of ourselves, the very embodiement of
logic, knowledge, reason, and self control (OK, all bets are
off during pon farr-cut a guy some slack). Star Trek allowed
a cynical kid to pretend that the human race just maybe
could have a future worth living for, and that honor,
loyalty and friendship could be truly universal. Spock has
been, and always shall be, my hero.

Definitely not Charles Nelson Reilly.
I repeated that quote verbally just now, so can the answer also be considered Useo? ;)

In the 1960s, he publicly threatened to break Howard Hughes' nose if Hughes did not stop harassing Mamie Van Doren, a woman both men had had affairs with, but at different times. Needless to say, Hughes never bothered Van Doren again.
A week before the Woodstock Music Festival kicked off in Bethel, New York, McQueen had been invited for dinner at the Roman Polanski-Sharon Tate home in the Hollywood hills by mutual friend and hairdresser-to the-stars, Jay Sebring. An unexpected rendezvous with a mystery woman prompted him to cancel his appointment. In the wake of the Manson Family Tate-LaBianca murders at, respectively, 10050 Cielo Drive and 3301 Waverly Drive, McQueen would later learn that he was accorded the kind of priority billing for which he was unprepared: he topped Charles Manson's celebrity death list. Thereafter he carried a concealed weapon.

As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to

Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.

But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

Consumers in Colorado bought more than 17 tons of recreational marijuana buds during the first year of the state's new retail market, but sales of medicinal pot still outstripped that at almost 50 tons, officials said on Friday.
In a national first, voters in Colorado and Washington state opted to legalize recreational marijuana use by adults in landmark twin ballots in 2012. The first retail stores opened in Colorado on Jan 1, 2014.
State tax officials say sales hit nearly $700 million last year, with medical marijuana accounting for $386 million and recreational pot bringing in $313 million.
In its first annual report, the Colorado Department of Revenue's Marijuana Enforcement Division said 109,578 pounds (49.7 tons) of medical marijuana flowers were sold in 2014, while 38,660 pounds (17.5 tons) were sold on the retail market.
But recreational sales of pot-infused edible products, such as candies and cookies, outstripped medical sales by about 2.85 million units to 1.96 million, the report said.

The upcoming Broadway musical "Finding Neverland" has found a new producer to join its ranks - Bryan Cranston.
Lead producer Harvey Weinstein said Friday that the Tony Award-winning former "Breaking Bad" star had signed up after being enchanted by an early workshop.
The show, directed by Diane Paulus, explores the Peter Pan book's back story and stars Matthew Morrison of "Glee" and former "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer. Performances begin March 15 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Morrison will play J.M. Barrie, the "Peter Pan" author, and Grammer will play his producer. The musical is adapted from the 2004 whimsical film of the same name about a widow whose four young sons inspired Barrie to write the children's classic.

Stone Age Britons imported wheat about 8,000 years ago in a surprising sign of sophistication for primitive hunter-gatherers long viewed as isolated from European agriculture, a study showed on Thursday.
British scientists found traces of wheat DNA in a Stone Age site off the south coast of England near the Isle of Wight, giving an unexpected sign of contact between ancient hunter-gatherers and farmers who eventually replaced them.
The wheat DNA was dated to 8,000 years ago, 2,000 years before Stone Age people in mainland Britain started growing cereals and 400 years before farming reached what is now northern Germany or France, they wrote in the journal Science.
The scientists also found DNA of oak, poplar and beech and of dogs or wolves, deer, grouse and auroch, a type of cow. There was no trace of wheat pollen in the samples, indicating that it was not grown locally.
The $150,000 Oscar gown worn by actress Lupita Nyong'o that was stolen two days ago was returned on Friday by the thief, who tipped off celebrity news site TMZ.com after learning the pearls on the dress were fake, according to officials and the website.
TMZ said the thief took the Calvin Klein dress from Nyong'o's hotel room on Wednesday after finding the door ajar.
The media source said the thief removed two pearls from the dress and took them to the Garment District in downtown Los Angeles where they were told they were not real, according to White.
Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman with the department, later confirmed that the media source was TMZ.

Looks like David Copperfield is ready to make a big chunk of money disappear from his bank account.
The famous magician is looking to settle a lawsuit brought against him by former and current employees of his show at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, according to court papers obtained by TheWrap.
A U.S. district court judge in Nevada has approved a motion for preliminary approval of settlement, which would find Copperfield and the other defendants shelling out $552,282.74.
The lawsuit was filed in February 2014 by a group of employees from his Vegas magic show claiming that they were stiffed out of overtime pay that was due to them.

Google Inc has abandoned its plan to ban adult content on its blogging site Blogger after receiving negative feedback from users.
Google will instead "step up enforcement" of its existing policy prohibiting commercial porn, Jessica Pelegio, the company's social product support manager, wrote on Google Product Forums on Friday.
Bloggers can continue to tag any blog with sexually explicit content as "adult" that is placed behind a warning page.
Google said earlier this week that Blogger users would no longer be able to post sexually explicit pictures or videos on the platform starting on March 23.

The tiny town of Vulcan, Alta., virtually tripled in size the day that actor Leonard Nimoy detoured from a comic book convention in 2010 to visit the community that has cosmically connected itself to his Star Trek character, Mr. Spock.
"We're all grieving," said Shannon Clarke, with the Vulcan Tourism and Trek Station, recalling Nimoy's springtime visit five years ago. "He made our town feel really important.
"He just captured all of our hearts. Genuinely, a wonderful man."
The postmaster cancels outgoing mail with a stamp of the Starship Enterprise, while Star Trek-themed hotel rooms are booked solid during an annual Spock Days Festival.
Nimoy took it upon himself to assist the town gain official licensing with CBS to be named the Star Trek Capital of Canada, said Clarke.
