Josh Marshall: Russia's Pro-Trump Operation Keeps Expanding (TPM)
Even some of the Twitter accounts which had already been found were considerably more prolific and influential than we had known. One Russia-created Twitter account for the Tennessee Republican Party had more than ten times the followers of the real Tennessee GOP Twitter account. The Tennessee party had apparently complained about it to Twitter, to no avail. A number of top Trump aides engaged with the ersatz account late in the 2016 campaign and President himself thanked an affiliated account on Twitter just last month!
Osmium is a chemical element with symbol Osand atomic number 76. It is a hard, brittle, bluish-white transition metal in the platinum group that is found as a trace element in alloys, mostly in platinum ores. Osmium is the densest naturally occurring element, with a density of 22.59 g/cm3. Its alloys with platinum, iridium, and other platinum-group metals are employed in fountain pen nib tipping, electrical contacts, and other applications where extreme durability and hardness are needed.

At the end, Kelly only took questions from journalists who had met a Gold Star family before, because that's how a free press works.
Go fuck yourself, John Kelly. We still respect your service and the sacrifice your family made, but our respect for you as a human just took a nosedive.
4) Linda's rant before the link to the second Wonkette link--Seriously, at a press briefing, where does he get off saying he will only take questions from Gold Star families or those who have met Gold Star families? Pussy! He willingly took the podium to lie and bail out his buddy. He says he has balls. Then answer questions and quit lying. Or STFU and never do this lying for Predator bit again!
Comments:
While many like to paint Kelly as some sort of "adult" who is keeping us from Armageddon, can we stop to remember that not long after Trump took office he attended a Coast Guard graduation where he was presented with a ceremonial saber and Kelly was caught on a hot mic whispering, "Maybe you can use that on the press, sir."
This groveling toady is as phony and fake and fascist as Trump himself. Stop the Kelly worship.
This FUCK wants to be thought of as "the adult in the room"?
well then i wanna be thought of as an Olympic marathon medalist.
If Kelly impaled himself on Trump's sword, he only suffered a little prick.
The Elf seems to be developing dementia
Jefferson Beauregard doesn't want to answer questions so he's just going to claim executive privilege baselessly and hold his breath until he turns blue:
Kelly, Predator's willing toady & a snake, didn't do the greatest job of cleaning up the mess as he stepped in poo too. As this points out, the "principled," "private" man has WILLINGLY stepped up to the mike twice in one week to lie for his buddy. As this article says-
Trump apparently has to lie compulsively and there's nothing surprising about that - he's not the one to bear any consequences from his wrongdoing. Other people clean up his messes as they have his entire life.
Good op ed by Eugene Robinson (link below that Cassandra shared). This part is beautiful:
"In the hope that it may be no intrusion upon the sacredness of your sorrow, I have ventured to address you this tribute to the memory of . . . your brave and early fallen child," Abraham Lincoln wrote to the parents of a deceased Union soldier.
A couple of nights ago, Rachel Maddow read a letter Lincoln wrote to the daughter of a friend who was killed in the war. Again, beautifully written. Made me tear up.
As for the check belatedly sent. If it was a personal check from Predator, why did the Southern Cow talk about processes to issue & mail it? If he gave the money from the US Treasury--why did ONE father get a check? Is he going to be fair and give EVERY father a check? And by what right is he using our taxes to make special gifts?
Twitter reacts to Moron taking on the new Moron/Predator:
As one person said, I'm not sure slamming Predator without naming him by name is effective--does he even realize it's a criticism of him if you don't use the name Trump--does he even read it or hear it if it doesn't have the name Trump emblazoned all over it like his uglyass buildings?

Barack Obama called on voters to reject a growing "politics of division" and implied Donald Trump (R-Odious) had set American democracy "back 50 years" as he returned to the campaign trail for the first time since leaving the White House.
In his first political speeches for nearly a year, the former president took thinly veiled swipes at his Republican successor as he condemned "folks who are deliberately trying to make folks angry" for a "short-term tactical advantage".
He told rallies in New Jersey and Virginia that voters could send a powerful message about the type of politics they want by backing Democrats in 7 November elections in the two states.
Addressing a cheering crowd in Newark, New Jersey, Mr Obama said: "What we can't have is the same old politics of division that we have seen so many times before, that dates back centuries."
Without mentioning Mr Trump by name, he added: "Some of the politics we see now, we thought we put that to bed. That's folks looking back 50 years. It's the 21st century, not the 19th century."
Quentin Tarantino has admitted he was aware, for decades, about Harvey Weinstein's alleged misconduct towards women.
The director said he failed to act in order to protect women despite knowing about several instances of alleged sexual assault, stating: "I knew enough to do more than I did."
In a new interview Tarantino, who worked with Weinstein on some of his best known films including Pulp Fiction, said he regretted not taking action with the knowledge he had.
"There was more to it than just the normal rumours, the normal gossip," he told the New York Times. "It wasn't second hand. I knew he did a couple of these things.
"I wish I had taken responsibility for what I heard. If I had done the work I should have done then, I would not have had to work with him."
University Offering the First-Ever Degree in Marijuana Studies
Michigan
Students at a Michigan university might have to do a double-take when they look over the school's degree options. After all, what college lets someone major in marijuana studies?
But that's exactly what Northern Michigan University is offering as part of a four-year bachelor of science program. It doesn't seem like a fit for the classic stoner stereotype, however.
"When [my friends] hear what my major is, there are a lot of people who say, 'Wow, cool dude. You're going to get a degree growing marijuana,'" Alex Roth, a 19-year-old sophomore at NMU, told the Detroit Free Press. "But it's not an easy degree at all."
Technically, the program is called "Medicinal Plant Chemistry,"and it combines chemistry, biology, botany, horticulture, marketing and finance classes into one course study. There's even specialized entrepreneurial and bio-analytical tracks for students who want to focus on the business or scientific aspects of the degree.
While cannabis is definitely a focus of the program due to the increasing demand for chemists, entrepreneurs and horticulture experts to tap into the state's booming marijuana industry, students won't be using it or cultivating it.
International researchers investigating the death of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda raised doubts on Friday as to whether he died of cancer 44 years ago as previously presumed, and did not rule out foul play.
Neruda, known for his passionate love poems and staunch communist views, died days after a coup in September 1973 that ushered in the brutal dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
Neruda's chauffeur claimed Pinochet's agents took advantage of the poet's illness to inject poison into his stomach as he lay in hospital. Neruda's body was exhumed in 2013 and previous tests have found no evidence of poison but are ongoing.
Spanish forensic specialist Aurelio Luna from the University of Murcia told journalists that his team discovered something that could possibly be a laboratory-cultivated bacteria. It will be analyzed, with results expected in six months to a year.
Luna also said that tests indicated that death from prostrate cancer was not likely at the moment when Neruda died.
As firefighters in Northern California battle ongoing wildfires, the Sonoma County sheriff is facing a different battle: fighting misinformation about how the fires started.
Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano issued a statement Thursday on Facebook calling out Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for spreading "inaccurate, inflammatory" information about the wildfires and about who - if anyone - had caused them. Cal Fire has not yet determined what started the blazes.
"ICE attacked the Sheriff's Office in the midst of the largest natural disaster this county has ever experienced," read the Sonoma sheriff's post. "Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated, many people have lost their homes and 23 people [in Sonoma] have died from this firestorm. ICE's misleading statement stirs fear in some of our community members who are already exhausted and scared."
ICE had released a statement Wednesday on its website, warning of Sonoma County's "repeated releases of [a] dangerous criminal alien," naming Jesus Gonzalez, a homeless man whom Sonoma officials had arrested earlier this week on suspicion of starting a small fire in a park.
The exchange between ICE and the sheriff's office comes as right-wing website Breitbart and other sites posted misleading news stories this week suggesting that the Northern California wildfires were started by Gonzalez, whom they called an "illegal alien."

The controversy continues over President-for-now Trump's (R-Execrable) treatment of a military widow during a condolence call, with Rep. Frederica Wilson, Fla., accusing the White House of lying about her record.
And new video emerged Friday bolstering Wilson's case.
White House chief of staff John Kelly (R-Sock Puppet) criticized Wilson on Thursday for reporting that Trump told Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, one of four soldiers killed in Niger earlier this month, "knew what he signed up for" by joining the service.
Kelly did not mention Wilson by name. He then went on to slam an unnamed congresswoman at a 2015 event he and Wilson were both at. Kelly said at a FBI building dedication in Miami, the congresswoman, "in the tradition of empty barrels making the most noise," boasted about securing $20 million in funding for the building,
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly (R-Misogynist) says that he coached Donald Trump (R-Crooked) on what to say to the widow of a US soldier killed in action, and told him to express to her that her husband had acted honourably in making the decision to accept a dangerous position as a soldier.
Included in the advice was a phrase that has stirred controversy in recent days, and one that Mr Trump has denied he used during the phone call: "He knew what he was getting into."
Mr Kelly clarified the context of that statement as well. Speaking to reporters in the White House, he said that he had counselled Mr Trump not to make the call at all, but that the President had insisted.
"He was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. He knew he was getting into by joining that one percent. He knew what the possibilities were because were at war when he died he was surrounded by the best men on this Earth, his friends," Mr Kelly said he advised the President to say.
Mr Trump had vehemently denied saying that the dead soldier knew what he was getting into. Florida Representative Frederica Wilson claims to have overhead the conversation between Mr Trump and the widow, and was the first to tell the press about the contents of the call.

A judge rebuffed former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's (R-Pink Panties) request to expunge his criminal conviction for unlawfully detaining individuals based on suspicions of their legal status after President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Corrupt) pardoned him in August.
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton ruled Thursday that the pardon wasn't a reason to erase Arpaio's guilty verdict.
"The power to pardon is an executive prerogative of mercy, not of judicial record-keeping," she wrote. "The Court found Defendant guilty of criminal contempt. The President issued the pardon. Defendant accepted. The pardon undoubtedly spared defendant from any punishment that might otherwise have been imposed. It did not, however, revise the historical facts of this case."
"The sheriff views it as a form of resistance to the president's pardon, and I view it as a resistance to the law," one of the lawyers, Jack Wilenchik, told CNN.
In July, Arpaio and his department were found guilty of violating a 2011 court order by stopping and detaining drivers based on suspicions about whether they were in the country illegally. Trump issued the presidential pardon before Arpaio could be sentenced, saying the notorious sheriff had provided "admirable service to our Nation."
As many as three million people in the United States carry a loaded handgun daily, while nine million do so at least once a month, according to a US study Thursday.
Most of these gun-toting Americans are young men, live in the south and say personal protection is a top reason for walking around with a deadly weapon, said the report in the American Journal of Public Health.
The study is the first in 20 years to look at gun-carrying habits in a nation that has been repeatedly seen fatal mass shootings at schools, concerts and workplaces, researchers said.
The data came from a 2015 nationally representative survey that assessed handgun-carrying behavior of 1,444 gun owners.
"Compared with handgun owners who did not carry, those who did report carrying handguns tended to be younger, and more often male, live in the southern United States, have grown up in firearm-owning households, self-identify as politically conservative, and own more than one type of firearm," said the report.
