Event At University of Tampa
Greg Palast
When: Saturday, September 21st 7:00pm
Where: Falk Theater, University of Tampa
How Much: $10 advance, $15 door
FILM and SPEECH: UNPRECEDENTED: THE 2000 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Not only the Tampa premiere of the new film, with the film's co-director Joan Sekler
(co-founder of The Independent Media Center) but also a speech by BBC
investigative journalist Greg Palast, author of THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN
BUY.
Palast's speeches on WMNF's Radioactivity program have caused a
torrent of interest from listeners. The film is the riveting story about the
battle for the presidency in Florida during the 2000 election. It also tells how
Republican political operatives used their access to voting lists to
undermine the black vote.
This event is being sponsored by WMNF, 88.5FM
Thanks, Stevan

The Simon campaign is airing a lot of Rudy 'Serial Philanderer' Guiliani endorsements. Rudy tells us what a good business man Simon is (in spite of 2 jury's convictions), and then uses the tagline
''Trust Me!'' --- like any woman should ever believe those words from his lips.
First week of school was a good one! The new teacher has the kid so motivated, he nags me in the morning.
It sort of rained - well, it sprinkled off & on most of the day, and that's a good thing. Can tell who is on a fixed income in my neighborhood by the state of their lawn.
Tonight, Saturday, CBS has some 'US Open' infringing on prime time, so at least an hour will be filled locally. Then, it's the movie 'Anaconda'.
NBC, well, depending on where I look, it's either 'NBC's Fall Preview Special', followed by a rerun 'Spy TV', then a fresh 'Biography Close-Up: Saturday Night Live', and wraps with a rerun 'Crime & Punishment', OR
'NBC's Fall Preview Special', followed by a rerun 'Spy TV', then 2 reruns of 'Dog Eat Dog', followed by a rerun 'Meet My Folks'. The SNL rerun is supposed to be hosted by Gwnyth Paltrow.
ABC has 2 reruns of 'Whose Line' followed by the 2 final installments of 'In Search Of America'.
The WB has the movie 'Biloxi Blues'.
Faux has the traditional 2 reruns of 'Cops' followed by 'America's Most Wanted'.
UPN has the movie 'Glimmer Man'.
TCM celebrates one of my favorite American authors, Raymond Chandler tonight with
Murder, My Sweet (1944), starring
Dick Powell as Philip Marlowe.
Next is Lady in the Lake (1947), with
Robert Montgomery as Philip Marlowe.
Finally, it's The Big Sleep (1946),
directed by Howard Hawks, with a screenplay by
William Faulkner, and starring
Humphrey Bogart as Philip Marlowe, with

Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Aaron McGruder
PHIL DONAHUE, HOST: Good evening and welcome to DONAHUE. Tonight, the cartoonist who put his career on the line to express his not so popular views after 9/11.
But first, our top story. It deals with love, politics and family.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
(voice-over): It's all in the family for George and Jeb Bush, and there's nothing wrong with brotherly love. Except when you're a president who won his office in an atmosphere of doubt in the state that is headed by your brother.
And now as Jeb Bush makes his run for reelection, there are signs of what some might consider the big payback, as the state of Florida garners more attention from Washington than ever before. George himself has admitted to making more trips to the Gator State than to his own home state of Texas.
Is this democracy at its best? Or is this just doing the family's business?

Slain Character Gets New Life
`24'
The real-time Fox thriller "24" is getting a second life on DVD — and so is the TV show's co-star, Leslie Hope.
Hope's character, the wife of star Kiefer Sutherland's embattled counterterrorism agent, was killed off in the final moments of the season finale.
The DVD release includes an alternate ending with a happier outcome.
Fans who were angry can compare the two conclusions and judge for themselves.
The second season of "24," in which each hour of the season aligns with one hour of the daylong story, is set to debut Oct. 29.
The DVD of the first season — nominated for 10 Emmys this month, including best drama series — is set to debut Sept. 17.

Cable's E!
Highlights of new projects on tap at E! include:
= "America's Favorite Houseguest," which features well-known comedians spending the weekend with a family preparing for a special event. That could mean a comic helping a 13-year-old draft his bar mitzvah speech.
= "The Michael Essany Project," a weekly behind-the-scenes look at a unique cable access show that stars Valparaiso, Ind.-based teen Essany. A die-hard Johnny Carson fan, Essany -- with
the help of his mother (sound and camera) and father (craft services) -- coaxes Hollywood personalities into his living room.
= "Hometown Premiere," which rolls out the red carpet for rising stars who travel back to their roots to share some of their success with family and friends.
= "Hollywood and Beyond," which will feature a weekly panel of psychics, paranormal investigators and clairvoyants who swap otherworldly celeb insights.
= "Celebrity Dish," where famous chefs will share recipes, diets and comfort foods of their famous bosses as they take viewers into celebs' kitchens, dining rooms and palettes.
= "Headgames," in which hypnotist Ricky Kalmon woos everyday people into believing they are their favorite stars.
= "Stargazers," which equips celebrities with a hidden camera as they hit the streets to catch the reactions of everyday people who cross their paths. Viewers of the show won't be
told what celeb is toting the lens, but will no doubt get hints along the way.

O'Really & Pepsi
Ludacris
Ludacris released a statement Thursday (September 5) addressing Pepsi's decision to end his endorsement deal with the popular soft drink company. The Def Jam South rapper said that "recent conservative spectator opinions" may have prompted the turmoil.
Pepsi stopped airing Ludacris's 30-second commercial on August 28, a day after Bill O'Reilly condemned Pepsi on his The O'Reilly Factor show on the Fox news channel. O'Reilly dubbed Ludacris a "thug rapper" and noted that his music promoted
selling drugs, degrading women, and getting drunk.
In his statement, Ludacris defended his music. "As an entrepreneur with the creative artistry that's the choice of the new generation, I take pride in what I share with the millions of consumers of my music--all of my fans with whom I am in
sync," he said. "My message represents an ideology and way of life that is true to me and the new generation to an extent that corporate and political forces can't touch."
Ludacris also noted that Pepsi previously praised his ability to reach their consumers in inner cities. The controversy has prompted Ludacris to plan a rally to unite hip-hop artists and fans.

Norway Bans Contact
Keiko
Norwegian officials on Friday barred people from getting near Keiko the killer whale, hoping to protect the star of the "Free Willy" movies from hordes of fans he appears to enjoy.
Six weeks after he was released from his pen in Iceland, the six-ton orca turned up 870 miles away in a western Norwegian fjord last week, drawing crowds wanting to pet him, swim with him,
and even climb on friendly whale's back.
Keiko, now about 25, was captured as a two-year-old off Iceland, and lived in a series of aquariums until his stardom in the three "Free Willy" films led to a project to return him to the open ocean.
Experts leading the $20 million project have pleaded with locals and tourists around the narrow inlet to leave the whale alone, even though he appears to thrive on human contact.
They also warned that all the attention could deprive Keiko of sleep and distract him from finding his own food.
The ban keeps unauthorized people from going within 165 feet of Keiko or feeding him, Roen said. Police will fine anyone who violates the ban.

L.A. Times Fingers Notorious B.I.G.
Tupac Shakur
Six years after rapper Tupac Shakur was killed in an unsolved drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Times on Friday identified his arch-rival, Notorious B.I.G., as a key player in the crime.
Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was himself gunned down in Los Angeles the following year.
The Times reported in its online edition that it was Wallace who provided the weapon used to murder Shakur as well as $1 million bounty.
The two-part report, based on a year-long investigation by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chuck Philips, will run in the paper's Friday and Saturday editions.
It identified Shakur's killer as Orlando Anderson, who belonged to Los Angeles' gang called the Crips. Anderson, who was never considered a serious suspect, was later killed in an unrelated shooting.

Stomach 'Bug' Or Stage Mother?
Lauren Bush
A stomach bug rather than diplomatic jitters kept resident Bush's niece Lauren from modeling an Arabic-inspired collection at a fashion show in Barcelona, fashion house Toypes said on Friday.
Lauren Bush was due to model three Arab-style outfits by the Galician label on Thursday. But she graced the catwalk only at the end of the show, hand-in-hand with designer
Jorge Galinanes after the rest of the models had left.
Local press reported on Friday that the model's mother had refused to let her 17-year-old daughter model the collection when she saw the silk tunics and turbans.
Toypes called a news conference to deny local press reports that Lauren had refused to model the collection because of the impending anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Signs On For Tribute Concerts
Roger Waters
Roger Waters has signed on for the two Music To My Ears benefit concerts for the family of the late Timothy White. John Mellencamp, Don Henley, Sheryl Crow, and Sting will join the former Pink Floyd singer-bassist at both shows,
while James Taylor will be on the Boston date and Brian Wilson and Jimmy Buffett will play the New York show.
The benefit shows take place October 7 at the FleetCenter in Boston and October 8 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Proceeds from the events, as well as from an online memorabilia auction at ticketmaster.com, will go to
Judy Garlan White, White's widow, and their twin sons, Alexander and Christopher.
White, who died suddenly on June 27 at the age of 50, was a respected music journalist and an editor at Billboard. He was also the author of a number of artist biographies, including books on Wilson, Taylor, the Beach Boys, and Bob Marley.

Drops Divorce Request
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin
The pro wrestling star known as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, facing a misdemeanor charge that he assaulted his wife earlier this year, has dropped divorce proceedings.
The San Antonio resident had filed for divorce from Debra Gale Williams in July in an attempt to end their two-year marriage.
A Bexar County court last week dismissed the divorce case, stating that the wrestler, whose real name is Steve Williams, no longer wished to pursue it.

Convicted Felon Rents Bus
Dolly & Ollie
What do Iran-Contra figure Oliver North and country music star Dolly Parton have in common?
A touring bus.
North is riding a bus once used by Parton to promote his new political thriller, "Mission Compromised." He'll visit 58 cities in 30 days.
North, a talk-radio host, was a Marine lieutenant colonel and aide to the National Security Council in the Reagan administration.
He was convicted of three felonies for helping funnel to Nicaraguan guerrillas the profits from arms sales to Iran. The convictions were overturned on appeal.

Albuquerque Isotopes
Homer Simpson
Homer Simpson's worst fears are coming true, sort of -- As you may recall, Simpson went on a hunger strike last year when it was revealed on the cartoon
series that his beloved baseball team, the Springfield Isotopes, were moving to Albuquerque to become the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Now it's happening for real. The new team that will take the field in Albuquerque next year will be called the Isotopes in homage to Homer.
The Isotopes, however, will not be coming from Homer's hometown, the fictional Springfield, but from the real city of Calgary. The team called the
Calgary Cannons is a Triple-A, Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Florida Marlins and will move to New Mexico next year.
A newly renovated stadium that features a drive-in section where fans can watch the game from their cars will open in April with the new season. The stadium
is a few miles from the Sandia National Lab, which the state's Environment Department said is home to a notorious nuclear waste site.
Although a local newspaper poll showed strong support for the Isotopes name, the mayor of Albuquerque was not amused.

Returns Home
Stumpy the Squirrel
A squirrel with half a tail and no left hind foot is back with his caretakers after 10 days on the lam.
The squirrel, named Stumpy, was found six miles from the residence of Steve and Marcia Carter, who fought back tears when he was returned.
Born without a left hind foot, only one toe on the right hind foot and half a tail, Stumpy was taken to a wildlife rescue center after falling out of his nest as a baby more than a year ago.
Experts believed he couldn't survive in the wild and the Carters adopted him. Keeping a wild animal is usually illegal in Washington state, but the couple's home
about 30 miles north of Seattle is certified as a wildlife sanctuary.

they bestow good health and improve one's looks. The restaurant also offers cicada and butterfly pupa in their cocoons and roasted baby sparrows, selling for about dlrs 1 for a skewer.
