DAVID BROOKS: In Search of Dignity (nytimes.com)
When George Washington was a young man, he copied out a list of 110 "Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation." Some of the rules in his list dealt with the niceties of going to a dinner party or meeting somebody on the street.
Michael Phillips: Accent on experience for Cotillard as Dillinger's girl (Chicago Tribune)
She is Oscar-winning, French, intense and full of interesting opinions about the quality of the bottled water in her trailer. "I think this (bottle brought over from the Peninsula Hotel) is better than this," she says, half-joking. "This! This is not water! This is Coca-Cola water!"
Matt Mazur: review of "Essential Art House, Vol. 3" (popmatters.com)
Janus Films, a division of the Criterion Collection, is on a mission to educate the masses on quality cinema by releasing "affordable movie-only DVD editions of the true classics of art house cinema are perfect for schools, libraries, and rental stores, where their lower cost and sturdy packaging make them a practical alternative to the more elaborate Criterion Collection special editions.
MATT RICHTEL: Lights, Camera, Lots of Action. Forget the Script (nytimes.com)
The actress known as Savanna Samson once relished preparing for a role. "I couldn't wait to get my next script," she said.
There's no reason to look at them anymore, she said, because her movies now call almost exclusively for action. Specifically, sex.
Roger Ebert: "BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE" (R)
Saya is 16 and has been 16 for a very long time. What's interesting about teenage vampires, such as the hero of "Twilight," is that they're frozen in time while old enough to be sexy but too young to have developed a complex sensibility. Apparently, your maturation is put on hold along with your appearance, since Saya is 400 years old.
I apologize for the delay. It's been due to a family crisis. I have seven replies so far, so let's carry it over until Monday with results and a new question on Tuesday. Thanks fer yer understanding...
The Bionic Woman is an American television series which spun off from The Six Million Dollar Man. It starred Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers, a tennis professional who was nearly killed in a skydiving accident, and was rebuilt by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks), who had also rebuilt The Six Million Dollar Man. As the result of her surgical implantation, Jaime Sommers had amplified hearing, a greatly strengthened right arm, and enhanced legs, enabling her to run faster than a speeding car.
Jaime's bionic abilities were depicted as being similar to Steve's. She could run at least 60 mph (having been clocked at more than 62 mph during the episode Doomsday Is Tomorrow), like Steve, and could bend steel bars with her right arm, and could jump to and from great heights with her new legs.

Marian the Teacher was first, but wrong, with:
ok I'm jet lagged big time so I'm guessing three seconds
BGRDDAD responded:
60 MPH?
Charlie responded:
She was clocked as 62 mph in one episode. That's 100 kilometers per hour, or 0.000000093 of the speed of light. So, though she could run way faster than Usain Bolt, who maxes out at about 26mph, the producers of the show could safely ignore the effects of special relativity.
Alan J answered:
My source she can exceed 60 mph.
joe b responded:
I'm pretty sure it was the same speed as the
Bionic Man 60mph.
Sally said
Let's see now, today's trivia question asks, "How fast could Jaime Sommers, 'The Bionic Woman, run?'"
Faster than the wind?
No, no one is faster than the wind...
Or was it, "faster than a speeding bullet?"
No, that was Superman.
Or, how about the famous Lenny Bruce line: "She ran so fast, you could smell the hair burn??"
Did I really write that? Shame on me....
To be honest, I really don't know. I never was into ,"The Bionic Woman" series, so you have me there.
Jim from CA replied:
In excess of 60 miles per hour...
MAM noted:
Jaime Sommers, The Bionic Woman, could run 'faster than a speeding car' or exceeding 60 mph.
Lindsay Wagner as 'The Bionic Woman' circa 1976
DanD answered:
Well, obviously just a little faster than the Bionic Man (but only if she wanted to).
This kinda' reminds me of another joke all us (more) progressive hippies and freaks in NW Louisiana used to relate back in that day: How can you identify an Arkansas virgin? Well, she (he ...?) can run faster than her brothers! Generally speaking, you knew that those "inner-circle" guys laughing the loudest and the longest at the re-telling of this tired old tome probably also had a humorous issue of (perhaps) protesting too much.
As far as today's trivia question is concerned, I really haven't the slightest idea. Now I do remember (?) Lee Majors running down and catching automobiles (or was that the mushrooms?), so since she was "second generation" as far as her bionic technology is concerned, I'll just WAG it at seventy five miles an hour.
And, Joe S ("A lot of people say they want to get out of pain, and I'm sure that's true, but they aren't willing to make healing a high priority. They aren't willing to look inside to see the source of their pain in order to deal with it."
~ Lindsay Wagner) wrote:
"As fast as a speeding car." Thus ends the string of trivia questions that I knew the answer to without looking them up on the Googles.
While searching for a nice picture of Lindsay Wagner I discovered there is another Lindsay Wagner. Very interesting.

Four major Swedish newspapers have threatened to boycott a Britney Spears concert in Stockholm because of restrictions imposed on their photographers.
Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Expressen and Aftonbladet say they won't send photographers to the show unless Spears agrees to scrap certain conditions on how the images can be used.
The contract bars the papers from reselling the pictures and from publishing them more than 30 days after the concert.
Dagens Nyheter photo editor Roger Turesson said Friday "the next step would be to tell critics they can't write anything critical."
"Napoleon Dynamite" star Jon Heder has teamed with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay for an unusual Comedy Central sitcom deal that follows in Tyler Perry's footsteps.
The network has ordered 10 episodes of a new multicamera comedy starring Heder as an out-of-work computer IT specialist who returns to his small hometown and moves in with his parents and younger brother. Ferrell, McKay and Chris Henchy will write and produce the series, and Ferrell might opt for an on-camera appearance or two.
If the initial 10-episode run meets a ratings threshold, the network has agreed to order 90 more episodes from Gary Sanchez Prods. and distributor Debmar-Mercury, setting up the project for eventual syndication.
The deal echoes the unusual terms that Debmar wrangled for Perry's hit TBS sitcoms "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns," both of which started off with 10-episode orders followed by massive renewals for total orders of 126 and 80 episodes, respectively.

The Bureau of Prisons says it reversed course months ago to allow some of the country's most dangerous prisoners to read two books written by President Barack Obama.
Court papers filed Thursday show that prison officials twice rejected requests by inmate Ahmed Omar Abu Ali to read "Dreams from my Father" and "The Audacity of Hope."
The books contained material "potentially detrimental to national security," prison officials said in two separate rejections from August and September.
On Friday, bureau spokeswoman Traci Billingsley said the bureau reversed course in November and let him read the books.

Nelson Mandela has distanced himself from a London exhibition of disputed lithographs bearing his signature, his lawyer said Friday.
Bally Chuene said the Belgravia Gallery had scheduled a party and exhibition of artwork purported to be drawn by Mandela for Thursday - two day's before the elderly statesman's 91st birthday.
He said the artworks were part of ongoing litigation between Mandela and his former lawyer in South Africa.
"He (Mandela) did not sign those artworks," he said. "It is important to tell the public that they are being deceived."
Jailed evangelist Tony Alamo "married" the underage girls he allegedly forced into sex, exchanging wedding vows and rings, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors made the claim as lawyers met Friday with U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes about Alamo's trial, slated to begin next week. The trial, scheduled to last two weeks, will put Alamo's lawyers in a delicate position of trying to tear into the credibility of the evangelist's alleged victims on the stand while trying to not alienate jurors in the conservative southwestern Arkansas town.
Alamo, 74, has pleaded not guilty to the 10-count federal indictment. FBI agents and Arkansas State Police troopers raided Alamo's 15-acre complex in Fouke on Sept. 20, searching for evidence of child pornography. Agents arrested the evangelist five days later in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Prosecutors also said Alamo had sexual relationships with several different partners at a time and believed in polygamy, but stopped short of calling him a practicing polygamist. A previous defense lawyer for Alamo said the evangelist "spiritually" married and divorced multiple women who continued to live with him.

A Russian TV channel has cut a segment of the ribald U.S. cartoon comedy "South Park" that appeared to mock Vladimir Putin, a news agency reported.
The channel "2X2" cut material from the show that aired Tuesday, portraying Putin as a greedy and desperate leader, Novy Region reported Thursday. The decision prompted criticism and furious discussion on Russia blogs.
It was unclear whether the decision, involving an episode that originally aired in the United States in 2005, was made by channel executives or regulators. Channel executives could not be reached for comment Friday.
The channel has been threatened with closure at least twice before for broadcasting what material regulators deem extremist. The network received warnings from the government last year for "promoting immorality and violence" and again in September 2008 for "overt propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia."
The artist who created the "Hope" poster of President Barack Obama was sentenced to probation on Friday after pleading guilty to three vandalism charges in Boston. Prosecutors dropped 11 other charges.
Shepard Fairey was sentenced in Boston Municipal Court to two years probation. He pleaded guilty to one charge of defacing property and two charges of wanton destruction of property under $250.
Fairey was arrested in February when he was in Boston for an event kicking off a solo exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art. The arrest came three days after he failed to appear in court on a charge of placing a poster on a Boston electrical box in September 2000.
In the plea deal, he admitted to the 2000 incident and two others this past January: placing a sticker on the back of a traffic sign, and placing a poster on a private condominium building.
