Josh Marshall: Trumpcare is Happening (TPM)
The pattern is the same one from the House. The GOP moderates always cave. In this case, Cassidy was the moderate or spoke for them. So he's signaled what's coming. … If you want to mobilize to stop this, it has to be now, in the Senate.

Anna Tatton-Brown, Mason's daughter, said: "My family and I respect the decision the jury have reached, although we are obviously disappointed. "It seems that failing to be aware of what's in front of you while you're driving is an acceptable mistake, not careless, and that no explanation for that failure is necessary.

Patriot Act NSA Spying Unconstitutional Section 215 National Security Letters Must End
My name is Marc Perkel and I have decided to announce that I will not comply with the so called "Patriot Act" laws requiring me to disclose information about my customers. If I receive a national security letter I will immediately photograph it, post it online everywhere I can, and then make a video of me burning it. I will then await my arrest. If you want to put me in jail then come get me mother fucker.

Nearly 20 parkgoers at Disneyland on Friday night got a nasty surprise when a flock of geese defecated on them, prompting a response from a hazardous materials team.
The incident happened before 9 p.m. in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, according to Darren Wyatt, an Anaheim Police Department spokesman.

'Not many things could drag Woody Allen out of his beloved New York City. It's even harder to get him out to L.A.
But an award for Diane Keaton, star of the director's 1977 classic Annie Hall and several more of his films, who also dated him for years in the '70s, managed to do it. When Allen took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood Thursday night to present Keaton with the American Film Institute's 2017 Life Achievement Award, the audience was surprised and gave him a standing ovation.
The 81-year-old acknowledged, "We go back a long way, Diane and I."
Allen was not Keaton's only ex in the audience. Both Beatty and Pacino gave tribute speeches, too.
Steve Martin, Reese Witherspoon, Morgan Freeman, Rachel McAdams, Emma Stone, Lisa Kudrow, Martin Short, Jane Fonda, and Sarah Silverman also paid tribute to the icon. Meryl Streep gave a speech, and she also dressed like her co-star from 1996's Marvin's Room.
CNN is parting ways with another provocative personality. The network said on Friday that it would not move forward with a second season of Reza Aslan's Believer after the Iranian-American author characterized Donald Trump (R-Grifter) as a "piece of shit" on Twitter.
Aslan's tweet was in response a tweet in which the president asserted that the recent terrorist attacks in London were an example of why his Muslim travel ban is needed. The president's tweet was widely condemned. And Aslan quickly apologized for his profane characterization.
In a statement, CNN did not give a reason for not renewing Alsan's show: "CNN has decided to not move forward with production on the acquired series Believer with Reza Aslan. We wish Reza and his production team all the best. "
But in his own statement Aslan accepted the implication that CNN was distancing itself from him because of his tweet.

A woman who was sexually assaulted by film director Roman Polanski when she was 13 years old has urged a judge to terminate the long-running case.
Samantha Geimer, 54, called on Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon to resolve the matter by either dismissing the case outright or sentencing Polanski for the crime.
"I would implore you to do this for me, out of mercy for myself," Ms Geimer said. "I am not speaking on behalf of Roman, but justice. I implore you to consider to resolve this matter without incarcerating an 83-year-old man."
Geimer who sued Polanski in 1993 and reached a settlement for $500,000 has repeatedly stated that she has forgiven the Oscar winning director and now wants to get on with her life.
A prominent leader of the abstinence-only sex education movement has been appointed to a senior position at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, joining several other social conservative activists in the leadership ranks at HHS.
Valerie Huber, named this week as chief of staff for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, had served since 2007 as leader of the National Abstinence Education Association, which recently renamed itself as Ascend. She previously served as abstinence education coordinator for the state of Ohio, overseeing abstinence programs serving over 100,000 students annually.
Over the years, Huber established herself as one of the leading advocates of programs that stress the benefits of sexual abstinence, as opposed to comprehensive programs that include instruction about contraception. She has been particularly critical of the federally funded Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program created while Barack Obama was president and now targeted for elimination byDonald Trump's (R-Corrupt) administration.
Huber's appointment was welcomed by conservative activists and assailed by liberal advocacy groups - the same pattern that emerged after some other recent HHS appointments. Two of those appointments involved prominent anti-abortion activists - Charmaine Yoest as assistant secretary of public affairs and Teresa Manning as deputy assistant secretary for population affairs.

The former teacher did not issue a statement about her split from Fualaau, however, he claimed to still be in love with Mary Kay. The breakup was only a business move.
"It's not necessarily what you think," Fualaau, now 33, told Radar Online in an exclusive interview last month. "Everything is fine between us."
Fualaau aspires to start a "Cigaweed" business to he could sell marijuana cigarettes, but he can't do that with Mary Kay as his wife since she's a convicted felon.
"When you want to get licensed, they do background checks on both parties," Fualaau told Radar Online. "If I decide to be a part of it I have to be licensed and I have to be vetted and so does a spouse. She has a past. She has a history."

With Tesla doing so well these days, it's sometimes difficult to remember where the company was at 10 years ago. Elon Musk and Tesla have become as one in the minds of the public, but the quiet truth is that Musk wasn't a founder of Tesla in a technical sense.
Malcolm Smith and Martin Eberhard were the two Silicon Valley engineers who first came up with the idea of building an electric car that didn't suck. They came up with the name, the car concept, and founded the company. Musk came on board as an early investor and eventually took over in 2008 as CEO, but that's not the story that Musk wants to be remembered.
Eberhard's departure from Tesla, eventually to be replaced by Musk, is a well-documented and bitter fight that ended in lawsuits. Details about exactly what happened are still murky, but there's enough evidence on the public record - including a bunch of documents that list Musk as the Chairman, rather than Co-Founder - that it's weird that Musk feels the need to re-litigate the issue on Twitter with a bunch of false claims.
Japan's parliament passed a law Friday that clears the way for its ageing Emperor Akihito to step down, in what would be the first imperial abdication in more than two centuries.
The popular 83-year-old monarch shocked the country last summer when he signalled his desire to take a back seat after nearly three decades on the Chrysanthemum Throne, citing his age and health problems.
The unexpected move presented a challenge since there was no law to deal with an emperor retiring from what is usually a job for life.
The one-off rule was passed in the last-stage upper house on Friday in a unanimous decision after the lower chamber gave its stamp of approval last week.
The abdication must take place within three years of the new law taking effect or it expires -- and it only applies to Akihito.
Emmy-nominated actress Glenne Headly has died at age 63, Variety has confirmed.
The film, television actress, and theater actress was known for starring alongside Warren Beatty in 1990's "Dick Tracy" as Tess Trueheart. She was nominated for an Emmy for her role in the 1989 miniseries "Lonesome Dove," as well as the 1996 Showtime film adaptation of "Bastard Out of Carolina." She was in production on the Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg produced Hulu comedy series "Future Man" at the time of her death.
Headly's career began on the stage, when she was an originating member of Chicago's renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She went on to marry fellow ensemble member John Malkovich in 1982, though the pair divorced in 1988. She made her feature film debut in the 1981 dramedy "Four Friends." In 2016, she appeared in "Stage Kiss" at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles; her other theater performances included "Arms and the Man," with Malkovich directing and "Aunt Dan and Lemon," directed by Wallace Shawn in London.
On the television side, she played Dr. Abby Keaton in Season 3 of "ER," and had a starring role in the short-lived NBC comedy series "Encore! Encore!" Recently, she appeared in the HBO miniseries "The Night Of," as well as the feature drama "The Circle" along with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
She is survived by her husband Byron McCulloch and son Stirling.
