John Cheese: "4 Simple Pieces of Career Advice (Almost No One Follows)" (Cracked)
Now, my own problems (and those of many of the people reading this article) weren't so much "I don't want to lose my half-million-dollar home" as it was "I'm one step away from stealing a car because prison food is free." But the same basics apply no matter what tax bracket is slapping you in the face with its d*ck. If you already know these, that's great. Please teach them to someone else, because there are millions of us out there who could benefit by knowing things like ...
Froma Harrop: "Stop Asking, 'How Did You Like ...'" (Creators Syndicate)
I'm shopping for a sweater online, and as so often happens, up pops a "tell us what you think" box. Or I'm on social media , and another social media company hijacks the screen, trying to sell me another product. Then there's: "How did you like the app?" "Tweet about us." "Leave a review."
A Personal Statement from Iain Banks
Lastly, I'd like to add that from my GP onwards, the professionalism of the medics involved - and the speed with which the resources of the NHS in Scotland have been deployed - has been exemplary, and the standard of care deeply impressive. We're all just sorry the outcome hasn't been more cheerful.
Lew Sterrett Justice Center (Yelp)
One of a few reviews: "I had a delightful time at Lew. The industrial vibe of the accommodations, combined with the summer camp atmosphere among the guests, somehow managed to be both sophisticated and good old-fashioned fun. The noise level was high, like the best hipster restaurants. And the complementary proctological exam was a nice surprise. Big D, little A, double L, A, YES!"

Washington Mutual, Inc. abbreviated to WaMu, was a savings bank holding company and the former owner of Washington Mutual Bank, which was the United States' largest savings and loan association until its collapse in 2008.
With respect to total assets under management, Washington Mutual Bank's closure and receivership is the largest bank failure in American financial history. Before the receivership action, it was the sixth-largest bank in the United States. According to Washington Mutual Inc.'s 2007 SEC filing, the holding company held assets valued at $327.9 billion.

The job of economics, to be blunt but honest, is to rationalize, justify, and celebrate the system. To develop abstract theories of how economics works to make it all like it's a stable, equilibrium that meets people's needs in an optimal way. These kinds of words are used. But that's useless to people who want to learn how to run a business, because it's a fantasy.

Believe it or not (in my later years), I came from the world of banking. (Not this one thankfully!) Who'd have thunk?

Why? Mainly because smaller schools like Wichita State, also in the 'Final Four', could win in all (although I doubt they will). Plus, I enjoy watching the students at the games go wicked, wild crazy...

Baby eagles are hatching on Catalina Island, off the coast of southern California. A group called the Pet Collective has set up a webcam near the nest so viewers can watch the eagles crack through their shells and take their first breaths.
The footage can be hit and miss. One minute, an adorable eaglet is chirping for the camera. The next, 27-year-old mother Wray and 13-year-old father K01 (aka "Superman") are blocking the camera. Hey, down in front! We're trying to gawk at your babies.
Still, even if your view is partially obstructed at times, the live stream is well worth a view. Wray and Superman have been together for years and, according to video's description, this marks the sixth time the happy couple have returned to the same nest. So far, one of three eggs has hatched. Stay tuned for siblings two and three.

James Brown, the late, lamented singer and songwriter, is getting his own official YouTube channel and online site, thanks to a collaboration between home entertainment company Shout! Factory and the James Brown Estate.
The channel and website debut Friday and will include a treasure trove of rare concert footage, such as Brown's 1968 Boston concert following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"We launched these YouTube, online and mobile experiences today as the 45th anniversary of the Boston concert is a major milestone we all wanted to commemorate," Jeffrey Thompson, Shout! Factory's vice president of digital strategy and business development, said in a statement. "These digital destinations will continue to evolve as we program content specific to key events as well as discover and add new video assets, leveraging Shout! Factory's unique content curation capabilities."
Brown, a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, was a trailblazing talent who merged jazz, blues and funk with hits like "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine." He died in 2006 at the age of 73.

On Friday, the cable network announced that its renewing "Vikings" for a 10-episode second season. The renewal arrives just five episodes into the season and four episodes left before its finale on Sunday, April 28 at 10 p.m.
Averaging five million total viewers and 1.7 million viewers in the ad-coveted 18-49 demo, "Vikings" consistently claims victory in its time slot for cable programming.
Created by Michael Hirst ("The Tudors," "Elizabeth"), "Vikings" is based on the legends of Ragnar Lothbrook (played by Travis Fimmel) who pushes the boundaries of exploration for his people beyond known lands. It also stars Gabriel Byrne, Jessalyn Gilsig and Katheryn Winnick.
A lawyer for Gerard Depardieu says the actor again couldn't make it in court to face drunken driving charges.
Defense attorney Eric de Caumont says Depardieu was too busy filming a movie in the United States about another Frenchman known for run-ins with the law: former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
A Paris criminal court on Friday could take exception to Depardieu's second straight no-show over the harmless incident in November when he toppled over on his scooter in Paris and was charged with drunken driving.
Depardieu - possibly France's best-known movie star, for roles in some 150 films such as "Green Card" - had already skipped out in January on a previous summons to appear.

Wesley Snipes has been released from a federal prison in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Snipes was convicted in 2008 on tax charges. He was released Tuesday and placed under home confinement. A Bureau of Corrections spokeswoman said Friday he'll be overseen by the New York Community Corrections Office until July 19.
Snipes has appeared in dozens of films, from "White Men Can't Jump" and "Demolition Man" in the early 1990s to the "Blade" trilogy. He entered the McKean County prison in December 2010 to begin a three-year sentence for failure to file income tax returns.
Snipes belonged to a group that challenged the government's right to collect taxes. Prosecutors say he failed to file returns for at least a decade and owed millions of dollars in back taxes.

The family of a prominent Parisian art dealer is demanding that a Norwegian museum return an Henri Matisse painting seized by Nazis under the direction of Hermann Goering, in the latest dispute over art stolen from Jews during World War II.
The painting at the center of the dispute, Matisse's 1937 "Blue Dress in a Yellow Armchair," depicts a woman sitting in a living room. It has been among the highlights of the Henie Onstad Art Center near Oslo since the museum was established in 1968 through a donation by wealthy art collector Niels Onstad and his wife, Olympic figure-skating champion Sonja Henie.
Museum Director Tone Hansen said it had been unaware the painting was stolen by the Nazis until it was notified of the fact in 2012 by the London-based Art Loss Register, which tracks lost and stolen paintings.
She said Onstad bought the painting in "good faith" from the Galerie Henri Benezit in Paris in 1950. The Benezit gallery "has no record of collaborating with the Nazis, as many galleries did," she said in an interview.

Shortly after launching its "Operation Free Korea" initiative, notorious hacking group Anonymous has fired its first shots at North Korea. The group had demanded supreme leader Kim Jong-un resign, in addition to abandoning his nuclear ambitions and installing free democracy across the Asian country. Earlier this week, hackers belonging to Anonymous claimed to have stolen the passwords of 15,000 users from the North Korean propaganda website Uriminzokkiri. After its demands were not met, the group has begun to take down various properties belonging to Pyongyang.
Both the Twitter and Flickr accounts belonging to Uriminzokkiri were compromised early Thursday morning. Anonymous members uploaded images making fun of Kim Jong-un to the photo-sharing page and mocked the country using its own Twitter feed. In addition to taking down Uriminzokkiri and its social properties, the group defaced books and music store Ryomyong and a website belonging to a North Korea-linked political group, known as AINDF.
"We have a few guys on the ground who managed to bring the real Internet into the country using a chain of long distance WiFi repeaters with proprietary frequencies, so they're not jammed (yet)," the group wrote. "We also have access to some N.K. phone landlines which are connected to Kwangmyong through dial-ups. Last missing peace [sic] of puzzle was to interconnect the two networks, which those guys finally managed to do."
The group praised its operatives and asked others to stand up against governments around the world.
"Citizens of North Korea, South Korea, USA, and the world, don't allow your governments to separate you," Anonymous said. "We are all one. We are the people. Our enemies are the dictators and regimes, our goals are freedom and peace and democracy. United as one, divided by zero, we can never be defeated!"

A federal judge will seek to unravel an art mystery and determine the rightful owner of a napkin-sized painting by French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir that a Virginia woman says she bought at a flea market for $7.
The ownership is in dispute after documents were uncovered showing a Baltimore museum reported the painting stolen more than 60 years ago.
The painting has been seized by the FBI, and the federal government filed an action last month in U.S. District Court in Alexandria asking a judge to determine who should keep the painting.
Among the contenders is a Lovettsville woman, Marcia "Martha" Fuqua, who has told the FBI that she bought the painting at a West Virginia flea market in late 2009 for $7 and stored it in a plastic trash bag for two years before having it authenticated as a genuine Renoir.
According to an appraisal commissioned by the FBI, Renoir painted "Paysage bords de Seine," or On the Shore of the Seine, on a linen napkin in 1879 on the spot at a riverside restaurant for his mistress.

Officials have ordered the removal of the rainbow pedestrian crossing painted on a street in Sydney's main gay district, setting off fierce debate in a city known for its annual Mardi Gras gay pride event, one of Australia's main tourist draws. Controversy over the crossing, painted in February to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the annual gay festival, is pitting those proud of Sydney's reputation for tolerance, such as gay former tennis star Martina Navratilova, against government officials who say it is a safety hazard.

Bollywood is branching out from its traditional song-and-dance dramas and slapstick comedies with its first zombie films which filmmakers hope will entice younger crowds back to Indian films from Hollywood's living dead.
Few horror films are made in Bollywood and those that do make it to the big screen tend to focus on ghosts and the after-life, which are common themes in Hindu mythology.
But this year, as Indian cinema celebrates 100 years, three zombie films made in Hindi are slated for release, hoping to compete with blockbuster U.S. zombie movies such as "Warm Bodies" and "World War Z".
Directors Luke Kenny and Devaki Singh will release the first of the three Hindi films, "Rise of the Zombie", on April 5, and hope twinning zombies with Indian filmmaking will appeal to younger audiences.
