• Fred Astaire was once staying at the home of Jock Whitney, and he asked Mr. Whitney to teach him a new dance called the Sluefoot. Big mistake. Mr. Whitney wasn’t able to get any sleep that night. Mr. Astaire stayed up all night practicing the Sluefoot, and his bedroom was located directly above Mr. Whitney’s.
Death
• In a movie stunt, actor Sheldon Leonard was supposed to be under a truck that was held up by a hoist. The truck was to be lowered toward him, then stopped by pushing a button just before it crushed him. Before doing the stunt, Mr. Leonard said, “Let me see how it works.” The director didn’t want to demonstrate, arguing that it had taken two hours to light the scene and he didn’t want to move the truck, but Mr. Leonard insisted. As the truck was lowered, the filmmaker pushed the stop button, but the truck kept descending onto the spot where Mr. Leonard’s corpse would have been if he hadn’t insisted on seeing a demonstration of the stop button. The hoist’s stop button had worked perfectly for light passenger cars, but the truck was too heavy for the hoist.
• In his movie Roger and Me, director Michael Moore included footage of a white woman slaughtering a rabbit by clubbing it to death. Many people have told Mr. Moore how upset they were by the scene. However, two minutes later in the movie appears footage in which Flint, Michigan, police shoot and kill a black man who is holding a toy gun and wearing a Superman costume. In his book Stupid White Men, Mr. Moore writes, “Not once — not ever — has anyone said to me, ‘I can’t believe you showed a black man being shot in your movie! How horrible! How disgusting! I couldn’t sleep for weeks.’”
• Charlie Chaplin died on Christmas of 1977, and on December 27, he was laid to rest in a cemetery in Vevey, Switzerland. However, on March 2, 1978, his coffin was dug up by grave robbers and carried away with his body inside it. The grave robbers demanded 600,000 francs for the return of the body. Fortunately, the police were able to capture the grave robbers as they attempted to pick up the ransom. Mr. Chaplin’s body was recovered, and the grave robbers were put on trial and convicted.
• Mischa Auer provided comic support in many films of the 1930s and 1940s, including the classics My Man Godfrey, You Can’t Take It With You, and Destry Rides Again. Mr. Auer had a hard early life in St. Petersburg, losing both parents — his mother died of typhus, and his father died in the Russo-Japanese War. After immigrating to the United States, he found it difficult to concentrate on his education, and he once told a teacher, “After seeing death and torture, suppose I don’t do algebra.”
• Sometimes fans act like jerks. In John Barrymore’s funeral procession, his friends, many of whom were famous stars, drove by a sidewalk crowded with fans who cheered as the stars went by. W.C. Fields, mourning the death of one of his best friends, looked at the crowd of fans and said, “God-d*mn morons!”
• Death is not optional. After Samuel Goldwyn had criticized her for writing her movie scripts too sad and without happy endings, Dorothy Parker replied, “Mr. Goldwyn, since the world was created, billions and billions of people have lived, and not a single one has had a happy ending.”
• British actress Hermione Gingold once was asked if her most recent of several husbands was dead. She replied, “That’s a matter of opinion.”

Henderson? I have no idea. I didn’t even remember that character’s name is Sally. After using the google I find the cat’s name is Mr. Henderson. So I almost guessed right based on the recent pattern of answers.
I’m still basking in the glow of celebrating Rush’s permanent silence and Trump’s humiliating second impeachment, and remembered good ole’ Bart used to refer to Rush as “Vulgar Pig Boy.” An accurate observation I must say.

Info: Autoramas started as a surf music group. This album was released 1 January 2015, when surf was still a main focus for them; however, it also includes several good songs with vocals. This was in the Flávia Couri (bass player) era. She left Autoramas to play with her husband, Martin Couri, in the Courettes. (Check them out on Bandcamp.) Gabriel Thomaz has written much excellent surf music. — Bruce
“Formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1998, Autoramas mixes rock from the 60s, New Wave and Jovem Guarda. One of the most successful bands in the independent scene, it has abundant material and numerous international tours. Currently it is composed by Gabriel Thomaz, Érika Martins, Jairo Fajer and Fábio Lima.”
“Blue Monday” is a surf instrumental of the New Order song.

The Television Academy has capitulated to the cries of the late-night lobby and has reversed course – keeping the variety sketch and talk categories separate for this year’s Emmys.
The Academy had announced in December that the categories would merge but has decided to keep them separate – a boon for the late-night crowd.
“While the Academy remains concerned about the number of series produced and the relatively small pool of entries in the variety sketch genre, it acknowledges that the differences between variety sketch and talk programs merit separate consideration,” the Academy said in a statement. “As the Academy continues to engage with industry leaders and constituents, it will always endeavor to uphold the integrity of the competition and be as fair as possible.”
It comes after Deadline revealed that that broadcast networks including ABC, CBS and NBC as well as cable nets including Comedy Central, HBO and Showtime were planning to petition the TV Academy with some showrunners going as far to suggest a boycott of the event.
The changes would have meant that sketch shows such as Saturday Night Live and A Black Lady Sketch Show would compete in the same category as the likes of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
When it comes to tackling the vaccination issue, you knew that South Park was going to give it a shot.
The fearless animated comedy from Matt Stone and Trey Parker — which explored the COVID-19 crisis with a pandemic special last fall — returns with another hour-long installment. The "South ParQ The Vaccination Special" is slated to air March 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, the network announced on Friday.
"South Park's The Pandemic Special," will be re-aired an hour before the vaccination special. The pandemic installment — which was the show's first-ever hourlong episode, not to mention, its high-rated episode is seven years with 4.4 million viewers — tore into Donald Trump (R-Lock Him Up) for his bungled response to the deadly crisis, and depicted the former President (played by Mr. Garrison) as encouraging the coronavirus given that its disproportional impact on people of color. "All I have to do is guide the avalanche in the right direction," he said, "and I'm fulfilling my promise to the American people." The episode also took on police violence and took shots at Disney.
Season 23 — which saw South Park pass the 300-episode milestone — wrapped up in December 2019, and the September pandemic special has been the show's only new installment since. A premiere date for season 24 has not been announced.
Texas Republican Sen. Rafael "Ted" Cruz (R-Bad Dad) is under fire for taking a trip to Cancun while his Texas constituents are suffering from a lack of electricity, heat and water.
Cruz is catching it from the internet community for that conduct, which has led to a flood of memes and the resurrection of an episode of The Simpsons that may add to the fire. The parody hits a little too close to home for the Senator (who, incidentally, claims he’s a fan of the show).
The episode in question aired on May 6, 1993. Titled Marge in Chains, Mayor Quimby claims he’s canceling plans for a trip to the Bahamas to deal with a pandemic that’s enveloped Springfield.
Quimby tells everyone to stay home, but he’s actually on a beach, wearing a jacket and tie on top of his bathing suit, pretending to be at work in his office. A nearby steel drum soloist threatens to give him away.
The abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson have taken a new turn with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stepping into the case.
“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau is investigating allegation(s) of domestic violence involving Mr. Brian Warner also known as ‘Marilyn Manson,’ who works in the music industry,” the Department said in an email to Variety. “The incidents occurred between 2009 and 2011 when Mr. Warner lived in the city of West Hollywood.”
Earlier this month, actor, singer and activist Evan Rachel Wood, alleged that Marilyn Manson “horrifically abused” her for years when they were in a relationship.
“I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent,” Wood wrote in an Instagram post.
Hours after Wood’s post, Loma Vista Recordings dropped Manson from their label.
The U.S. government is acknowledging for the first time that right-wing extremists were responsible for the majority of fatal domestic terrorist attacks last year, according to an internal report circulated by the Department of Homeland Security last week and obtained by Yahoo News.
A review of last year’s domestic terrorist incidents by a DHS fusion center — which shares threat-related information between federal, state and local partners — found that although civil unrest and antigovernment violence were associated with “non-affiliated, right-wing and left-wing actors, right-wing [domestic violent extremists] were responsible for the majority of fatal attacks in the Homeland in 2020.”
The report, produced by the Joint Regional Intelligence Center, a DHS-funded fusion center, was sent out to police and law enforcement agencies nationwide as part of an intelligence-sharing system created after the 9/11 attacks.
While independent think tanks and outside groups have been pointing to the rise in ring-wing violence for some time, this appears to be the first known instance of an official government or law enforcement agency clearly acknowledging the trend, though senior officials have noted the rise in white supremacist attacks. The report also comes not long after the end of the Trump administration, which was criticized for downplaying right-wing violence.
“The government has not said this publicly, law enforcement has not said this publicly,” said Seth Jones of the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank. “This is new.”
Donald Trump (R-Lock Him Up) would do "terrible things" anytime Dr Anthony Fauci disagreed with him publicly, the doctor revealed in a recently released interview.
The Mr Trump's antagonistic behaviour towards Dr Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, inspired his supporters to do the same. Now, Dr Fauci has to live under the care of armed guards since last April.
During an interview with The Telegraph, Dr Fauci - who became a household name thanks to his press conference appearances in the early days of the coronavirus's spread throughout the US, often times looking dismayed by Mr Trump's comments - said the former president was vindictive and used his loyalists in other government offices to undermine him.
“Like he allowed [White House trade adviser] Peter Navarro to write an editorial in USA Today saying that almost everything I’ve ever said was wrong,” the doctor said. “He allowed the communications department of the White House to send out a list to all of the media, all of the networks, all of the cables, all of the print press, about all of the mistakes I’ve made, which was absolute nonsense because there were no mistakes.”
Eventually, Mr Trump sidelined Dr Fauci, barring him from further public appearances, and replaced him with Dr Scott Atlas, who was loyal to the president.
An Alaska woman had the scare of a lifetime when using an outhouse in the backcountry and she was attacked by a bear, from below.
Stevens, her brother Erik and his girlfriend had taken snowmobiles into the wilderness Feb. 13 to stay at his yurt, located about 20 miles northwest of Haines, in southeast Alaska.
Her brother heard the screaming and went out to the outhouse, about 150 feet (45.72 meters) away from the yurt. There, he found Shannon tending to her wound. They at first thought she had been bitten by a squirrel or a mink, or something small.
“I opened the toilet seat and there’s just a bear face just right there at the level of the toilet seat, just looking right back up through the hole, right at me,” he said.
The next morning, they found bear tracks all over the property, but the bear had left the area. “You could see them across the snow, coming up to the side of the outhouse,” she said.
A global period of upheaval 42,000 years ago was the result of a reversal in Earth's magnetic field, new research has found.
According to radiocarbon preserved in ancient tree rings, several centuries' worth of climate breakdown, mass extinctions, and even changes in human behaviour can be directly linked to the last time Earth's magnetic field changed its polarity.
The research team has named the period the Adams Transitional Geomagnetic Event, or Adams Event, after sci-fi writer Douglas Adams, who famously declared the number 42 the ultimate answer to life, the Universe, and everything.
This most recent period of magnetic reversal is known as the Laschamp event, and it is what we call a geomagnetic excursion. This is when the planet's magnetic poles briefly swap places before returning to their original positions. It's one of the most well studied of Earth's magnetic field events, recorded by ferromagnetic minerals.
It took place around 41,000 years ago, and lasted for around 800 years. Exactly what impact this event had on life on the planet was unclear, though - so when scientists uncovered an ancient kauri tree (Agathis australis) in 2019 that had been alive during this time period, they seized on the chance to learn more.
Scientists have cloned a black-footed ferret from the genes of an animal that died over 30 years ago in a first for US endangered species.
The cloned ferret, named Elizabeth Ann, was born on 10 December and the successful cloning was announced on Thursday.
The young animal is a genetic copy of a ferret named Willa who died in 1988 and whose remains were frozen in the early days of DNA technology.
The cloning of Elizabeth Ann marks the first cloned black-footed ferret and the first-ever cloned US endangered species.
The ferret species, which has characteristic dark eye markings resembling a robber’s mask, is charismatic and nocturnal and feed’s exclusively on prairie dogs.
