@BttbBob - Yes, I grew up in the 60s, and I'm as much into Beatles, Stones, Dylan as anyone, but if I really took an inventory of my collection, I think I'd find I have more Byrds than anything else, so thanks for starting my day off right!

PS: Okay, Hanukkah is in about 3 weeks, early this year as is Thanksgiving. The panic starts to set in, but then the morning care kids arrive, and I see their excitement - and somehow that makes it okay. We talk about it at breakfast, and I am going to make them pancakes in the shape of turkeys on Wednesday morning. The leaves can wait...

Must see Docu-drama Moment - The History Channel's multi part 'The Men Who Built America' ( The Men Who Built America - History.com TV Episodes, Schedule, & Video ) ~ I give it Five Stars... We were told of Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Edison, J.P. Morgan and Henry Ford in school. 'Titans' they were called. Well, yeah, mebbe so. But this series shows not only their genius, ambitions, goals and achievements, but also the lengths they went to and through, to accomplish them... and it all ain't pretty, I'm tellin' ya. The Johnstown, PA flood disaster of 1889 is directly attributed to some of them. The cinematography (Using state of the art computer generated imagery that incorporates 12 million historical negatives, many made available for the first time by the Library of Congress), period sets and attire (late 19th century, early 20th) are excellent as are the actors that portray said 'Titans' and the hoi polloi that both benefited from them, but also had to endure them... Those men may have made this country great, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they were entirely great men. This series lays it all out... Seriously...
(Oh, if'n ya don't get The History Channel, the link has great clips you can view)

More celebrities are backing an online campaign to raise money so that Native American tribes in South Dakota can purchase land they consider sacred.
P Diddy and Bette Midler are the latest big names to throw their support behind a fundraising effort to buy nearly 2,000 acres of pristine prairie grass in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Three days after the campaign began, P Diddy tweeted: "Help save the Sioux Nation! Click here," and linked to the website. Midler also lent her voice, tweeting: "Incredible story re the Sioux Sacred Grounds. Donate what you can."
More than $18,000 had been raised as of Sunday afternoon - $6,000 flowed in immediately after P Diddy's tweet. The campaign will last through Nov. 30, when the tribes of the Great Sioux Nation must have $9 million in order to purchase the land.
The tribes have raised $7 million so far for the 1,942 acres, which they call Pe' Sla (pay shlaw), or "old baldy." There are Sioux tribes in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and Canada.
Citing fears that doomsday believers, curiosity seekers, and "above all" journalists will flood a French mountaintop on Dec. 21, the supposed day of the Mayan apocalypse, local officials are banning access to the mountain.
The spot, Pic de Bugarach, is rumored to be one of the only safe places on the planet on Dec. 21, according to Raw Story. On that date, a major cycle of the Maya Long Count calendar ends. The calendar is split into several chunks, including 400-year spans called b'ak'tuns. Dec. 21, 2012 on our calendar marks the end of the 13th b'ak'tun and the beginning of a new cycle.
The calendar change would not have been seen as the end of the world by the ancient Maya, scholars agree. But in New Age and other online subcultures, believers have come to expect something major on that day, with predictions ranging from a new dawn of peace and harmony to an explosive doomsday.
One online rumor holds that on this day of destruction, Pic de Bugarach will open up to reveal an alien spacecraft, which will save believers nearby. That has local officials worried.
"We are expecting a few visionaries, a few people who believe in this end of the world, but in extremely limited numbers," state official Eric Freysselinard told Raw Story. "We are expecting greater numbers of people who are just curious, but in numbers we cannot determine. Above all, we are expecting lots of journalists."
One of Charlie Chaplin's bowler hats and a cane, the staple of Hollywood silent-era comedy, were auctioned for $62,500 (39,340.34 pounds) on Sunday, said auction house Bonhams.
Chaplin's hat and cane, which fetched more than the initial estimate of $40,000-60,000, are synonymous with his "Little Tramp" character in films such as "City Lights" and "Modern Times."
Bonhams memorabilia specialist Lucy Carr said earlier it is unknown how many of Chaplin's bowlers and canes still exist. Those auctioned on Sunday are from a private collection but have a direct link to Chaplin, Carr said.
Chaplin's hat and cane are the highlights of an auction of popular culture artifacts that is still in progress. Other items include a handwritten letter from John Lennon in which the Beatle sketched himself and wife Yoko Ono nude. There is also an archive of Marilyn Monroe photographs, an early Charles Schulz "Peanuts" comic strip, and a wicker chair from Rick's Cafe in "Casablanca."
Washington's International Spy Museum is opening a new exhibit commemorating 50 years of James Bond films and their villains.
"Exquisitely Evil: 50 Years of Bond Villains" opens Friday at the museum. The exhibit includes more than 100 artifacts, including a green Jaguar XKR driven by the villain of the 2002 Bond film "Die Another Day" and metal teeth worn by the villain Jaws in the 1970s Bond films "Moonraker" and "The Spy Who Loved Me."
The first James Bond film, "Dr. No," was released in 1962, and the 23rd installment of the blockbuster franchise, "Skyfall," is currently playing in theatres.
The exhibit will be on display at the International Spy Museum for at least the next two years.
John McAfee, the man responsible for the anti-virus software on your computer and currently a murder suspect, has started to blog about life on the run. McAfee has been uncharacteristically open with reporters since police in Belize started looking for him in connection with the murder of his neighbor. He's spoken to Wired and Gizmodo and even revealed to them that he changed his appearance, which is an unbelievably stupid thing for a wanted murderer to do. It's like he's never watched a getaway movie in his entire life.
Not satisfied telling reporters all the secrets of his life as a fugitive, McAfee decided to start a blog to deliver the real truth, unfiltered, in his own terms. His first post criticized the press coverage of the murder investigation:
The world press certainly has not helped. Autonomous and self-serving, the press does what it does best - sensationalize. And my character and the recent events of my life have been sensationalized to the max.
Take Jeff Wise and his recent posts to Gizmodo as an example. Jeff has made a life work out of smearing my character. Beginning with Fast Company some two odd years ago and continuing non-stop through the present, he has gone beyond the call of journalistic duty to bring my dark side to the attention of the world. You might think that moral duty or a search for the truth has been driving him. But, sadly, this is not the case.
He goes on to tell a story about how Wise cheated on his wife while covering McAfee for a National Geographic Explorer article years ago. Photos were apparently taken of the indiscretion and made their way to Wise's wife. Wise blames him, and that's why his coverage has been less than favorable, McAfee argues. McAfee's logic, apparently, is to fight "sensational" press coverage with sensational personal stories.

The California Supreme Court has declined to review Nicollette Sheridan's lawsuit over the demise of her role on "Desperate Housewives."
The state's high court said Friday it would deny an appeal by the actress in her wrongful termination case against ABC and Touchstone Television.
Sheridan said she was fired because she claimed she was hit in the head by series creator Marc Cherry. ABC attorneys claimed Sheridan's contract simply was not renewed.
In March jurors deadlocked after a two-week trial. An appeals court found in August that Sheridan was not entitled to a new trial, but should be allowed to file an amended lawsuit claiming she was retaliated against because she complained about her boss.

More than 44 million hacking attempts have been made on Israeli government web sites since Wednesday when Israel began its Gaza air strikes, the government said on Sunday.
Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said just one hacking attempt was successful on a site he did not want to name, but it was up and running after 10 minutes of downtime.
Typically, there are a few hundred hacking attempts a day on Israeli sites, the ministry said.
Attempts on defence-related sites have been the highest, while 10 million attempts have been made on the site of Israel's president, 7 million on the Foreign Ministry and 3 million on the site of the prime minister.
A ministry spokesman said while the attacks have come from around the world, most have been from Israel and the Palestinian territories.

San Francisco may be getting ready to shed its image as a city where anything goes, including clothing.
City lawmakers are scheduled to vote Tuesday on an ordinance that would prohibit nudity in most public places, a blanket ban that represents an escalation of a two-year tiff between a devoted group of men who strut their stuff through the city's famously gay Castro District and the supervisor who represents the area.
Supervisor Scott Wiener's proposal would make it illegal for a person over the age of 5 to "expose his or her genitals, perineum or anal region on any public street, sidewalk, street median, parklet or plaza" or while using public transit.
A first offense would carry a maximum penalty of a $100 fine, but prosecutors would have authority to charge a third violation as a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500 fine and a year in jail. Exemptions would be made for participants at permitted street fairs and parades, such as the city's annual gay pride event and the Folsom Street Fair, which celebrates sadomasochism and other sexual subcultures.
Stripped down to his sunglasses and hiking boots, McCray Winpsett, 37, said he understands the disgust of residents who would prefer not to see the body modifications and sex enhancement devices sported by some of the Castro nudists. But he thinks Wiener's prohibition goes too far in undermining a tradition "that keeps San Francisco weird."

Scientists say they've found evidence that stone tips for spears were made much earlier than thought, maybe even created by an earlier ancestor than has been believed.
Both Neanderthals and members of our own species, Homo sapiens, used stone tips - a significant development that made spears more effective, lethal hunting weapons. The new findings from South Africa suggest that maybe they didn't invent that technology, but inherited it from their last shared ancestor, Homo heidelbergensis.
The researchers put the date of the South African stone tips at about half-a-million years ago - 200,000 years earlier than other research has suggested.
The new study involved analyzing stone points, a bit less than 3 inches long on average, that had been excavated about 30 years ago. Scientists had previously estimated they were about 500,000 years old, but it wasn't clear whether they were used as spear tips or some other kind of tool, said Jayne Wilkins, a researcher at the University of Toronto and lead author of the new report.

The population of Uganda's mountain gorillas has grown to 400, up from 302 in 2006, according to a census conducted last year, bringing the total number of mountain gorillas in Africa to 880 and giving hope to conservationists trying to save the critically endangered species.
Uganda is now home to nearly half of the world's mountain gorillas remaining in the wild, a source of confidence for a country that has come to depend heavily on the popular apes for substantial tourism revenue. The rest of the surviving mountain gorillas - the species Gorilla beringei beringei - are in Congo and Rwanda.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a network of forested jungle deep in the country's southwestern frontier, is recognized by UNESCO as a heritage site of world value. A permit to track gorillas there costs at least $500 and the World Wildlife Fund estimates that each gorilla brings in up to $1 million in revenue each year for the East African country.
The census shows a stunning recovery for a species that once faced a real threat of extinction. Mountain gorillas in the wild still face threats ranging from habitat loss to poaching, especially in Congo, where lawlessness in the country's vast eastern territory has allowed illegal hunters to prosper. Mountain gorillas are hunted for their meat in Congo, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" sucked up $141.3 million domestically over opening weekend and $199.6 million more overseas for a worldwide debut of $340.9 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The finale ranks eighth on the list of all-time domestic debuts, and leaves "Twilight" with three of the top-10 openings, joining 2009's "New Moon" (No. 7 with $142.8 million) and last year's "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" (No. 9 with $138.1 million).
Last May's "The Avengers" is No. 1 with $207.4 million. "Batman" is the only other franchise with more than one top-10 opening: last July's "The Dark Knight Rises" (No. 3 with $160.9 million) and 2008's "The Dark Knight" (No. 4 with $158.4 million).
The "Twilight" finale took over the No. 1 spot from Sony's James Bond adventure "Skyfall," which slipped to second-place with $41.5 million domestically in its second weekend. "Skyfall" raised its domestic total to $161.3 million.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," $141.3 million ($199.6 million international).
