Jim Avery: 5 Iconic Roles That Made Actors' Lives A Living Hell (Cracked)
Believe it or not, Johnny Depp isn't a pirate, Robert Downey Jr. doesn't own a mechanical super-suit, and Tom Cruise isn't really a maniac who hangs from planes and ... OK, that last one is a bad example. But our point is that just because an actor pretends to be someone in a movie doesn't mean that they are that person. You'd think this would be common knowledge, and yet some famous thespians (and even a bunch of C-list celebrities) keep getting harassed in insane ways.
Evan V. Symon: "Bigger Than The NFL: 5 Realities of Texas School Football" (Cracked)
Whether you're on the homecoming court, playing in the band, or getting your underwear pulled over your head by a linebacker, football is a big part of shaping the life of an American high school student. In Texas, however, high school football is responsible for shaping the life of the entire state. Teams generate millions of dollars of revenue, and the coach with enough winning seasons under his belt can damn near get away with murder.
The number nine is special in China as it is the largest possible single digit, and Chinese dragons are frequently connected with it. For example, a Chinese dragon is normally described in terms of nine attributes and usually has 117 (9x13) scales - 81 (9x9) Yang and 36 (9x4) Yin.
Source
Randall was first, and correct, with:
Seriously? There are a finite number of scales on a Chinese dragon?
I'll be darned - Wiki says there are 117
81 yang (positive) and 36 yin (negative)
Lois Of Oregon replied:
A Dragon must have 117 scales to qualify for union membership, otherwise he is a scab dragon, and ineligible for employment, and that's why you don't see them anymore, because of those fucking unions, yeah, it's all their fault. Now, off to dragon free Corvallis for lunch with Bart.

Westboro Baptist Church targeted a Foo Fighters concert at Kansas City's Sprint Center on Friday, Aug. 21, and the band fired back -- with a Rickroll.
The band arrived on the scene via a pickup truck, blasting Rick Astley's 1987 single "Never Gonna Give You Up" and holding up signs that read "You Got Rick Roll'd Again" and "Keep It Clean."
The song's video has been used as an Internet meme in which people fool others into watching Astley's clip since 2007, when the phrase "Rickrolling" was born.

A Nevada sheriff is promising to crack down on any crime occurring in the Black Rock Desert at next week's Burning Man festival.
Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said he won't bend any rules for Burning Man visitors.
"We don't have the personnel to issue citations to 70,000 naked people on the playa, but we will be upholding the law to the best of our ability," Allen said.
The 39-year-old former deputy took over as sheriff in January. His predecessor was known for being relatively Burner-friendly and hiring retired officers to patrol the festivities, Allen said. He will have at least 31 officers on the playa, four more than last year. Last year, then Sheriff Richard Machado halted prosecution of marijuana possession charges during last year's festival, according to a U.S. Bureau of Land Management assessment.
Allen told the Reno Gazette-Journal that he will only enlist active-duty deputies and officers to ensure all are trained to take appropriate actions to maintain safety.

Explore.org, a philanthropic media branch of the Annenberg Foundation, has a network of more than 50 high-definition web cameras streaming live images of wildlife around the clock. The organization offered to fund a program that would hire his alums, regardless of their previous offenses, as camera operators earning hourly wage between $10 and $15 with benefits.
Since then, New Earth has employed more than 30 camera operators, given them technical training and taught them film editing, production and multimedia skills. More than a million people watch the feeds online every month to get a glimpse of the most remote regions of the world, but few know that behind those cameras are young Los Angeles offenders, some of whom have never even been down the road to Disneyland.
A topless woman walks through Bryant Park following the protest march called the GoTopless Day Parade Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, in New York. The parade took to the streets to counter critics who are complaining about topless tip-seekers in Times Square. Appearing bare-breasted is legal in New York. But Mayor Bill de Blasio and police Commissioner Bill Bratton say the body-painted women in the square who take photos with tourists are a nuisance.

Far away from California's coast, where the Pacific Ocean currents swirl, the blue of the sea was replaced by fishing nets, buckets, buoys, laundry baskets and unidentifiable pieces of plastic that floated past the Ocean Star, a ship carrying a team of scientists and volunteers gathering data on plastic garbage.
"We were surrounded by an endless layer of garbage," sad Serena Cunsolo, an Italian marine biologist who works for The Ocean Cleanup. "It was devastating to see."
Cunsolo, 28, was one of a team of 15 researchers and volunteers aboard the Ocean Star who a month ago set out from San Francisco to study the plastic waste as part of the "Mega Expedition," a major step in the organization's effort to eventually clean up what's known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
The 171-foot mother ship, carrying massive white bags filled with plastic garbage, returned on Sunday to San Francisco along with two sailing boats with volunteers who helped collect the garbage samples.
Most of the trash they found, including a 1-ton fishing net, is medium to large-sized pieces, as opposed to confetti-like plastic shards that can easily enter the food chain after being eaten by small fish and birds and are extremely difficult to clean up, said Boyan Slat, who founded The Ocean Cleanup and has developed a technology that he says can start removing the garbage by 2020.
The head of the Koch brothers' flagship political organization says a Republican winning the presidency is becoming a higher priority for more of its members, suggesting a rift between pragmatists and ideologues.
Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said conservative fatigue after George W. Bush's residency in 2008 and overconfidence in efforts to beat President Barack Obama in 2012 have focused more members on winning back the White House than he's seen since the group formed a decade ago.
It's hard to tell how deep the divide between pragmatists and more ideologues runs, although reactions were mixed at the group's annual conference in Ohio Friday and Saturday. Five presidential candidates addressed the roughly 3,600 conservative activists from around the country, from tea party star Ted Cruz to Jeb Bush, a relative newcomer to the group's events.
Americans for Prosperity spent more than $30 million on television advertising in 2012 attempting to defeat Obama. The group does not plan to endorse a candidate in the Republican primary, but its leaders haven't decided whether they will advertise on behalf of the 2016 GOP nominee, Phillips said.
Budweiser has long been known as the "King of Beers," and Anheuser-Busch is taking exception to a craft brewer declaring itself holder of the "Queen of Beer" crown.
She Beverage Co. of Lancaster, California, applied in December to register "The Queen of Beer" phrase with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Anheuser-Busch filed a notice of opposition Wednesday, arguing that "Queen of Beer" is too similar to "King of Beers" and that consumers might wrongly believe She Beverage beers are made by Anheuser-Busch.
She Beverage co-owner Lupe Rose said the company launched sales at retailers and restaurants in April.
"We noticed there weren't a lot of beers targeted to women," she said, describing the beers as higher in alcohol than many drinks targeted to women. Rose said its IPA beer is smoother than many available, another quality that she said women prefer. Its products include Dirty Blonde Cali Citrus Amber and Brunette German Dopple Bock.

Of the six sites in the U.S. where researchers are trying to figure out how to integrate unmanned aircraft into civilian airspace, only North Dakota's can fly high both day and night.
The Federal Aviation Administration approved a plan last week that allows drones to be flown up to 1,200 feet above the entire state and permits flights at night, a combination that makes North Dakota unique, since other test sites are limited to a 200-foot blanket and daylight hours.
"It really expands the type of operations you can conduct," said Nicholas Flom, director of safety for the Northern Plains UAS Test Site.
Alaska, New York, Nevada, Texas and Virginia also were selected in December 2013 as national test sites for unmanned aircraft, which the FAA does not currently allow for commercial use. As for why North Dakota's wide-open skies were chosen for the higher altitudes, the FAA referred questions to the North Dakota Department of Commerce.

The rarest and smallest species of rhinoceros, the Sumatran rhino, has been declared extinct in Malaysia.
The announcement comes from a group of scientists who looked at the distribution of the world's most endangered large animal and found none in a country that was once part of its primary habitat.
Since 2007, only two Sumatran rhino females have been sighted in Malaysia-one in 2011 and one in 2014-and both were captured for captive breeding.
The population study, published in the conservation journal Oryx on Wednesday, was led by researchers at the University of Copenhagen's Center for Macroecology.

"Straight Outta Compton" easily maintained its box-office lead with an estimated $26.8 million in ticket sales over a sleepy late summer weekend at North American multiplexes, according to studio estimates Sunday.
Universal's N.W.A biopic, a much buzzed-about hit, dominated over the late August releases that often characterize Hollywood's dog days of summer. It has now made $111.5 million in two weeks, and continued to drive moviegoers, both male and female, despite renewed charges of misogyny in N.W.A lyrics and the film overlooking claims of Dr. Dre's abuse of women.
Of the weekend's new releases, the low-budget horror sequel "Sinister 2" fared best, opening with an estimated $10.6 million for the Blumhouse production - well below the $18 million the 2012 original debuted with. The result was good enough for third place, behind Paramount's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation," which made $11.7 million in its fourth weekend of release.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theatres, according to Rentrak. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday:
1. "Straight Outta Compton," $26.8 million.
2. "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation," $11.7 million ($25.2 million international).
3. "Sinister 2," $10.6 million.
4. "Hitman: Agent 47," $8.2 million ($8.5 million international).
5. "Man From U.N.C.L.E.," $7.4 million ($8 million international).
6. "American Ultra," $5.5 million ($1 million international).
7. "The Gift," $4.3 million.
8. "Ant-Man," $4.1. million ($2.9 million international).
9. "Minions," $3.7 million ($8.8 million international).
10. "Fantastic Four," $3.7 million ($16.2 million international).
