Matt Shirley: If Noah's Ark Were a Facebook Newsfeed (Playboy)
Let's all be honest with ourselves; Noah's ark is a crazy-ass story. But it's a great story and lends itself to different viewpoints and interpretations. So we thought it might be fun to look at the Genesis flood narrative if everyone back then had a Facebook page. Which they might have YOU DON'T KNOW.
Litmus is a water soluble mixture of different dyes extracted from lichens. It is often absorbed onto filter paper to produce one of the oldest forms of pH indicator, used to test materials for acidity.
Litmus was used for the first time about 1300 AD by Spanish alchemist Arnaldus de Villa Nova. From the 16th century on, the blue dye was extracted from some lichens, especially in the Netherlands.

Van Morrison joined an elite group of musicians Friday, one that includes Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney and Bono. The Belfast-born singer-songwriter was awarded an honorary knighthood by Britain's Queen Elizabeth during her annual Birthday Honours celebration. The newly-titled Sir George Ivan Morrison was selected to receive the highest honor for an individual in the United Kingdom for his "services to the music industry and to tourism in Northern Ireland."
"Throughout my career I have always preferred to let my music speak for me, and it is a huge honor to now have that body of work recognized in this way," Morrison said in a statement responding to the news, the BBC reports.
On June 18th, Morrison is also scheduled to receive the Johnny Mercer Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala in New York City. The two new distinctions join many others for the 69-year-old musician, who has also won six Grammys, a Brit Award, and an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In March, Morrison released Duets: Re-Working the Catalogue, an album that revisits deep cuts from albums spanning the course of his career with help from the likes of Steve Winwood, Bobby Womack and Mavis Staples. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he joked about the hardship of dealing with the vast output of his prolific creative life. "I didn't know I was going to have this body of work," he said. "It was probably the Nineties when it started to become unmanageable [laughs]. It's even more unmanageable now. But the more you create, the more you have to manage later on. Because I'm the only one who knows what it is."

Actor Patrick Dempsey finally got on the podium at the 24 Hours Le Mans endurance race, finishing second in the GTE Amateur category on Sunday.
The 49-year-old American, a long-time star of "Grey's Anatomy," was one of three drivers in the Dempsey-Proton Porsche 911 RSR team. They finished behind the winning Ferrari.
Dempsey is a huge motorsports fan and was driving Le Mans for the fourth time, but this was his first top-three finish. He has also competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance race.
The main race was won for a record 17th time by Porsche - its first victory since 1998. The winning car featured Formula One driver Nico Hulkenberg of Germany.
Six scientists who were living under a dome on the slopes of a dormant Hawaii volcano for eight months to simulate life on Mars have emerged from isolation.
The crew stepped outside the dome that's 8,000 feet up the slopes of Mauna Loa to feel fresh air on their skin Saturday. It was the first time they left without donning a spacesuit.
The scientists are part of a human performance study funded by NASA that tracked how they worked together as a team. They have been monitored by surveillance cameras, body-movement trackers and electronic surveys.
The dome's volcanic location, silence and its simulated airlock seal provided an atmosphere similar to space. Looking out the dome's porthole windows, all the scientists could see were lava fields and mountains, said University of Hawaii professor Kim Binsted, principal investigator for the study.
Tracking the crew members' emotions and performance in the isolated environment could help ground crews during future missions to determine if a crew member is becoming depressed or if the team is having communication problems.
French Ecology Minister Segolene Royal announced Sunday a ban on the sale of popular weedkiller Roundup from garden centres, which the UN has warned may be carcinogenic.
The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, was in March classified as "probably carcinogenic to humans" by the UN's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
The weedkiller -- used by amateur gardeners as well as farmers -- is the star product of American biotechnology giant Mon$anto.
Her announcement comes after French consumer association CLCV asked French and European officials to stop selling glyphosate-based products to amateur gardeners.

Nevada scofflaw and white rights advocate Cliven Bundy (R-Thief) said Saturday that contract researchers for the federal Bureau of Land Management had no business being on rangeland where he grazes cattle, but he denied he or his supporters fired gunshots near them.
Three employees of a nonprofit Nevada organization told authorities they were monitoring water sources in the Gold Butte area, about 100 miles northeast of Las Vegas, on June 5 when they were approached by two men who asked what they were doing.
The researchers quickly left after six shots were fired later that night near their camp in an area that's being considered for federal protection as a national conservation area. There were no injuries.
Las Vegas police are investigating the incident (cough, cough). Bureau of Land Management officials have declined comment beyond a statement saying the shooting prompted them to take unspecified safety precautions in the area to protect is employees and contractors.
The incident follows a tense standoff in April 2014 between Bundy and the bureau after a federal judge authorized the agency to remove his cattle from public land. Bundy, who does not recognize the authority of the federal government, stopped paying grazing fees over 20 years ago and owes more than $1 million.
A leading academic group voted Saturday to censure the University of Illinois' flagship campus over its decision not to hire a professor following his anti-Israel Twitter messages, a vote the university's chancellor said will have repercussions and is being taken seriously.
In a voice vote, the membership of the American Association of University Professors affirmed the censure at the group's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
The decision came in reaction to the university rescinding Steven Salaita's job offer following his posts on Twitter concerning Israel and the West Bank.
The vote hinged on the principle of academic freedom, said Anita Levy, an association staff member involved with the group's investigation of the matter. A report by the group described Salaita's tweets as expressions of "outrage in strong language over the war in Gaza."
Rejecting the professor's appointment "violated Professor Salaita's academic freedom and cast a pall of uncertainty over the degree to which academic freedom is understood and respected" at the school, Levy said, reading from a statement after Saturday's vote.

The number of accidental shootings by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies has more than doubled in two years as the department switches to a new handgun.
There were 12 accidental discharges of weapons in 2012 and 30 last year - most of which involved the new gun, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The inspector general of the Sheriff's Department is investigating the increase in accidental firings. But sheriff's officials attribute the increase to the learning curve for the new weapon, the Smith & Wesson M&P9.
The semi-automatic gun is made from a lightweight polymer, doesn't have a safety lever and requires less pressure to pull the trigger than the Beretta 92F, a heavier gun the department has used for two decades.
The Los Angeles Police Department has used a similar gun, a Glock, since 2005. It recently began issuing M&Ps, said Lt. Dana Berns, who heads the firearms and tactics section. No problems are expected because of the similarities of the weapons, he said.
"Jurassic World," the fourth film in the series, became the highest global opener of all time with a staggering $511.8 million in its first days in theaters. It also devoured a number of domestic box office records with a $204.6 million take, the Rentrak media-measurement company estimated on Sunday.
In addition to setting a record for 2015, "Jurassic World" is now the second-highest domestic opening of all time, right behind "Marvel's The Avengers" which took in $207.4 million in 2012. By the time Monday actuals roll in, there is a chance the film could dethrone "Avengers."
Also, audiences shelled out the extra money to see the film in the biggest format possible. About 48 percent of domestic audiences opted for 3D.
No studio even tried to compete with the unbeatable dinosaurs this weekend, and thus holdovers populated the rest of the top five. Melissa McCarthy's "Spy" earned $16 million in its second weekend in theaters, bringing its domestic total to $56.9 million. "San Andreas" added another $11 million, and "Insidious Chapter 3" and "Pitch Perfect 2" took the fourth and fifth spots, with $7.3 million and $6 million, respectively.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Rentrak. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1."Jurassic World," $204.6 million ($307.2 million international).
2."Spy," $16 million ($13.5 million international).
3."San Andreas," $11 million ($42.5 million international).
4."Insidious Chapter 3," $7.3 million ($6.7 million international).
5."Pitch Perfect 2," $6 million ($2 million international).
6."Entourage," $4.3 million ($1.8 million international).
7."Mad Max: Fury Road," $4.1 million ($5.4 million international).
8."Avengers: Age of Ultron," $3.6 million ($2 million international).
9."Tomorrowland," $3.4 million ($4.6 million international).
10."Love & Mercy," $1.8 million ($60,000 international).
