We know the American numbers: 4,488 killed; 31,965 wounded and, because there are truly no unwounded war veterans, nearly one out of two U.S. veterans who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars has applied for disability benefits. The best estimate is that at least 110,000 Iraqi lives were lost and some 2 million Iraqis were driven from their homes.

A timeless classic of show business, "Slowly I Turned" is the most common name associated with a popular vaudeville sketch. It is also referred to as, variously, "The Stranger with a Kind Face" by clowns and clowning aficionados, and "Niagara Falls" by fans of The Three Stooges and Abbott and Costello. By what name do the fans of I Love Lucy know this routine?
Martha's Vineyard (Wampanoag: Noepe) is an island (including the smaller Chappaquiddick Island) located south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, known for being an affluent summer colony.
Often called just "The Vineyard," the island has a land area of 100 square miles (260 km). It is the 58th largest island in the United States and the third largest on the East Coast of the United States. It is also the largest island not connected to mainland by a bridge or tunnel on the East Coast of the United States.

Okay, although I am not psychic, as is another of your followers (no names pls), I know this because it is a favorite place of mine. "Martha's Vineyard" is located off of Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. It is's about a 30 minute ferry boat ride away, but once there, it's like another world. They have been pretty good about keeping the commercial businesses away, especially as you get away from the docks. I just love the Cape, the Islands, and Boston...

Saplings from the chestnut tree that stood as a symbol of hope for Anne Frank as she hid from the Nazis for two years in Amsterdam are being distributed to 11 locations in the United States as part of a project that aims to preserve her legacy and promote tolerance.
The tree, one of the Jewish teenager's only connections to nature while she hid with her family in a Secret Annex in her father's company building, was diseased and rotted through the trunk when wind and heavy rain toppled it in August 2010. But saplings grown from its seeds will be planted starting in April, when the Children's Museum of Indianapolis will put the first one in the ground.
The 11 U.S. locations, which also include a park memorializing victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack in New York City, an Arkansas high school that was the heart of the desegregation battle and Holocaust centers in Michigan and Washington state, were chosen by The Anne Frank Center USA from 34 applicants.
"The heart of our mission is tolerance. ... Tolerance is really essential for being able to bring better welfare to everybody," said center spokesman Mike Clary.

"Hot in Cleveland" is hoping its new casting gimmick will turn the world on with a smile.
The TV Land hit, which was recently renewed for a fifth season, is staging a reunion of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" cast for an upcoming episode, with Mary Tyler Moore, Cloris Leachman and the ailing Valerie Harper joining forces with "MTM" alum and "Hot in Cleveland" star Betty White and recurring cast member Georgia Engel.
The episode, which does not yet have an air date, will focus on Elka (White) and Mamie Sue (Engel) reuniting their bowling team GLOB: the Gorgeous Ladies of Bowling. The team, which fell apart decades earlier after its championship season led to swollen egos, includes members Diane (played by Moore), Peg (Leachman) and Angie (Harper).
Moore has guested on "Hot in Cleveland" before, playing Elka's cellmate in the show's second season.
Advance bids for a copy of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album autographed by all four band members are even higher than the auction house anticipated.

The Beatles signed the album on the gatefold above pictures of their heads.
Bids started at $15,000 and include the buyer's premium.

The massive bronze sculpture is formally known as "Draped Seated Woman," a Henry Moore creation that evoked Londoners huddled in air raid shelters during the Blitz.
To the East Enders who lived nearby, the artwork was known as "Old Flo," a stalwart symbol of people facing oppression with dignity and grace.
But now, Old Flo may have to go.
The cash-strapped London borough of Tower Hamlets, one of the poorest communities in Britain, plans to sell the statue - estimated to be worth as much as 20 million pounds ($30 million).
Art lovers fear the sale of such a famous sculpture would set a worrisome precedent, triggering the sell-off of hundreds of lesser works housed in parks, public buildings and little local museums as communities throughout Britain struggle to balance their budgets amid the longest and deepest economic slowdown since the Great Depression.

Once the envy of Indian Country for its billion-dollar casino empire, the tribe that owns the Foxwoods Resort Casino has been struggling through a financial crisis and pursuing more revenue from an unlikely source: U.S. government grants.
The money provided annually to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation through the Interior Department and the Department of Health and Human Services has risen over the last five years to more than $4.5 million, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press through the Freedom of Information Act. One former tribal employee says department leaders were encouraged to offset dwindling resources by seeking more federal grants.
The Pequots, who once distributed stipends exceeding $100,000 annually to adult members, are not alone among gaming tribes seeking more federal aid. Several, including the owner of Foxwoods' rival Connecticut casino, the Mohegan Sun, say they have been pursuing more grants - a trend that critics find galling because the law that gave rise to Indian casinos was intended to help tribes become financially self-sufficient.
As long as they have federal recognition, casino-owning tribes are eligible for the same grant programs as the larger tribes based on large, poverty-stricken reservations in the American West. The grants, which don't need to be paid back, support tribal governments by paying for programs such as health screenings, road maintenance and environmental preservation.

An Internet video that shows a meat company employee swearing at animal activists before shooting a horse in the head highlights the increasing emotional intensity of the national debate over whether a New Mexico plant should be allowed to resume domestic horse slaughter.
Animal rights groups this week uncovered a video posted by a former employee of Valley Meat Co., which has been fighting the United States Department of Agriculture for more than a year for approval to convert its former cattle slaughter operation into a horse slaughterhouse.
Valley Meat Co. owner Rick De Los Santos said the employee, who was let go this week, was reacting to harassment by animal rights activists who have targeted the plant since its plans were made public about a year ago. The harassment has worsened since the video, made a year ago, was uncovered this week, he said.
The video shows Tim Sappington of Dexter leading a seemingly healthy horse by a rope to a spot in a dirt road. He strokes his nose and neck, says, "All you animal activists, (expletive) you," then shoots it in the head.
Chaves County Sheriff Rob Coon said the department is bracing for things to get worse as the company nears a final inspection by federal regulators with the hope of opening horse slaughter operations next month.

It's the divorce that could split up control of America's fastest growing oil company and lead to a record-breaking paycheck for the wife who claims her husband cheated.
Harold Hamm (R-Thurston's Whore), 67, who ranks No. 35 on Forbes' list of richest Americans, is a self-made man worth more than $11 billion.
Sue Ann Hamm, 56, Harold's second wife, filed for divorce on May 19, 2012, claiming that she discovered he was having an affair in 2010, eventually prompting her to end their nearly 25-year marriage.
Hamm was the senior energy advisor on Mitt Romney's presidential campaign and is so wealthy that the candidate allegedly shied away from appearing in public with him. An industry leader, Hamm is a promoter of fracking - the business of squeezing oil out of rocks in places like North Dakota.
The divorce could award Sue Ann Hamm's part of Harold Hamm's 68 percent stake in Continental Resources - the oil company he and his wife built together.

The engagement ring the young Napoleon "must have broken his wallet" to buy for his fiancee Josephine shattered expectations today at the Osenat auction house in France when it sold for close to $1 million, Osenat's expert Jean-Christophe Chataignier said.
The winning bidder, who wanted to stay completely anonymous, paid $949,000, almost 50 times the $20,000 Osenat had expected to bring in. Including the buyer's 25 percent commission to Osenat, the total price for the ring was $1.17 million.
The sale was timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of Josephina's birthday.

The caveman comedy "The Croods" left an indelible mark on the wall, opening at No. 1 with $44.7 million, according to Sunday studio estimates.
Opening strongly in second place with $30.5 million was "Olympus Has Fallen," an action thriller from "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua in which North Korean terrorists take over the White House. Gerard Butler, as a secret service agent, leads an all-star cast that includes Aaron Eckhart as the president, Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett.
But this weekend's haul is down 34 percent from the same weekend a year ago, when the juggernaut of "The Hunger Games" debuted. It made a whopping $152.5 million in its opening, which is more than all the films in theaters combined will have made this weekend.
Among the other new films this weekend, the Tina Fey-Paul Rudd college comedy "Admission" from Focus Features opened in fifth place with just $6.4 million. But the buzzed-about "Spring Breakers" from A24 Films, featuring Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens as hard-partying college girls, did well in its first nationwide expansion. It made $5 million on 1,104 screens for a total of $5.4 million over the past two weeks.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. "The Croods," $44.7 million ($63.3 million international).
2. "Olympus Has Fallen," $30.5 million ($2.2 million international).
3. "Oz the Great and Powerful," $22 million ($21.7 million international).
