The manticore is a legendary creature with the body of a lion and a tail of either venomous spines similar to porcupine quills or the tail of a scorpion. What kind of head does it have?
The manticore is a Persian legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx that proliferated in western European medieval art as well. It has the head of a human, body of a lion and a tail of venomous spines similar to porcupine quills, while other depictions have it with the tail of a scorpion. There are some accounts that the spines can be shot like arrows, thus making the manticore a lethal predator. It eats its victims whole, using its triple rows of teeth, and leaves no bones behind.

The manticore, whose head is that of a human, is a seriously nasty beast of Persian yore. It probably lurked in dark alleys.

To answer the question, the manticore has the head of a human.
What little rain we had yesterday was quite pleasant. I'm hopeful that we get more, soon..

Billy in Cypress U$A answered:
A manticore usually has the head of a human somewhat like a centaur or a motaur, but the version in Phineas and Ferb's Excaliferb, where I first saw the creature, had the head of a lion as well as the body of a lion. That particular episode is full of mythological and some real references, e.g. AOL's "You've got mail!".

In regard to BttbBob's comment about Surgeon General of the United States, VADM Jerome M. Adams, M.D., M.P.H. Chief of the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service, he does appear to a dark-skinned citizen who must be kept in the shadows of the corrupt Trump administration. My question is this, "How did he get that position in that administration?"

• Architect Frank Gehry was Jewish, and when he was serving in the US Army from 1954 to 1956, he occasionally ran into anti-Semitism. One Army sergeant called him by the slur "Kikey." Mr. Gehry complained to his company's commanding officer, who brushed off his complaint. Later, he complained to some officers he knew at the service club, and one officer told him, "Don't worry about it. Give me his name." Mr. Gehry did, and within three days the anti-Semitic sergeant learned that he had been transferred - to Alaska. When the sergeant told Mr. Gehry the news, Mr. Gehry replied, "I'm sure you'll find lots of kikes up there."
• As a girl, Moravian soprano Maria Jeritza was sent to a convent because her mother wanted her to take the veil, but Maria decided against it when she learned that her long hair would be cut short. Therefore, to get out of the convent, she made use of the rule that any novice would be dismissed whom the Mother Superior had reprimanded three times. To get her three reprimands, Maria performed these actions: during a time of prayer, she sewed the habits of two novices together; she stole fruit from the garden next door after climbing over the wall; and she crashed a domino board over the head of an opposing player.
• Dick King-Smith, the author of Babe: The Gallant Pig, had a chance to be a TV personality on a children's show called Rub-a-Dub-Tub, on each episode of which he presented a segment about animals. However, he was stiff the first time he tried to speak to the metal box that was the TV camera. Fortunately, Anne Wood, the producer of the show, asked him, "Who's your youngest grandchild?" The answer was Charlie, and Anne told Dick, "Just imagine that Charlie is inside that metal box. Talk to him as if he were." This worked, and Mr. King-Smith started sounding much more like his natural self.
• A mother once asked Manuel Garcia, a noted voice teacher, to take her daughter as a pupil. However, Mr. Garcia knew that the daughter was not suited to be one of his pupils, so he asked the mother and daughter to attend one of his lessons. At the lesson, he made a voice student practice difficult passages over and over, and the mother and daughter soon looked at each other, horrified, then left. As they left, the daughter told the voice student, "That would kill me." Mr. Garcia complimented the voice student who had been practicing the difficult passages, then continued with his normal lesson.
• Sir Hamilton Harty was conducting Brahms' Second Piano Concerto when pianist Artur Schnabel's memory failed him. Sir Hamilton recognized the error immediately, and he held up both hands. One hand made the sign for "2," and the other hand made a slashing motion across his throat. The well-educated Hallé orchestra cut two bars of the music, and the audience did not detect Mr. Schnabel's lapse of memory. Afterward, Mr. Schnabel told Sir Hamilton, "The Hallé is nearly as good as the Berlin Philharmonic." Sir Hamilton replied, "They're better - two bars better."
• Cromwell Barnard was both a Quaker and the captain of a ship. Once, his ship was at a certain wharf, and the officer of a rival ship decided that his ship would take the place of the good Quaker's ship. Captain Barnard protested, but the rival officer would not listen to him. Therefore, Captain Barnard called to his first mate, who was a non-Quaker, and told him, "Mate, I think thee'll have to come up here and use some of thy language." The first mate hurled a volley of oaths at the rival officer, and the rival officer decided to let Captain Barnard's ship alone.

The BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, which was scheduled to begin Monday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in the Coachella Valley, has been canceled after Riverside County officials declared a public health emergency Sunday after detecting a locally acquired case of the COVID-19 virus, officials said.
The tournament had been set to begin Monday and continue through March 22.
But in the wake of Saturday's announcement that a Riverside County resident had acquired the novel coronavirus in the community, coupled with the designation of a public health emergency on Friday, prompted officials to call off the event, organizer said in a written statement.
"We are very disappointed that the tournament will not take place, but the health and safety of the local community, fans, players, volunteers, sponsors, employees, vendors, and everyone involved with the event is of paramount importance," Tournament Director Tommy Haas said. "We are prepared to hold the tournament on another date and will explore options."
An interview on MSNBC about the British royal family took a bizarre turn when a guest referred to Meghan Markle as "five clicks up from trailer trash."
The video, which has gone viral, showed journalist Victoria Mather being interviewed from NBC's London bureau about the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's return to the U.K. after their decision to step back from royal duties.
Mather told anchor Lindsey Reiser that the British public had soured on former Suits actress Meghan because she tried to "disrespect" Queen Elizabeth II.
"I think what has really, really upset the British public is that Meghan Markle, who many people consider as only, you know, five clicks up from trailer trash, has actually tried to disrespect the queen," Mather said. "And the queen is the most respected person, most respected woman, in the world."
Reiser appeared perplexed by her comments and quickly ended the interview.
Corey Feldman says he will finally name his sexual abusers from when he was a child actor in a new documentary he's releasing called "(My) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys."
Feldman will use the real names of the people he says abused him when he was a young actor, something he did not do when he published his 2013 memoir and revealed that he had been abused. And Feldman will also reveal who he believes abused his frequent co-star Corey Haim, who died in 2010 of pneumonia.
"The last two years have been insurmountable, but I believe that with great risk comes great reward," Feldman said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "And I believe the reward in all of this, if nothing else, will be that these guys are finally exposed. I'm hoping that what happened to [Harvey] Weinstein [will happen], that multiple victims will come forward. And as a result, these guys will finally get indictments and we can put them out of business."
Feldman is working to start a movement known as #KidsToo to call attention to the abuse of children, especially in entertainment, and he's a supporter of California's Assembly Bill 218, which grants victims of childhood abuse more time to report cases and was signed into law by governor Gavin Newsom in October.
After temperature checks for contestants and with a smaller crowd than last year because of coronavirus fears, Mexico's Valentina Fluchaire was crowned in Thailand as winner of what is billed as the world's biggest transgender pageant on Saturday.
Although Miss International Queen 2020 went ahead, unlike many events cancelled around the world since the coronavirus outbreak emerged in China, the crowd was markedly smaller than in previous years, with many empty seats.
Organisers had advised anyone who felt unwell not to attend. To allay worries, the entire venue in the seaside resort city of Pattaya was disinfected the day before the event by staff in protective suits.
The contestants all had their temperatures taken with hand scanners before being allowed to go on stage in national costumes, swimsuits and glamorous evening gowns.
The second and third place went to contestants from Brazil and Thailand.
A doctor has advised hospitals to prepare for up 96 million coronavirus infections and 500,000 potential deaths as a worst-case scenario for the potential extent of the outbreak, leaked documents reveal.
The documents, obtained by Business Insider, come from a presentation made during a webinar hosted by the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Dr James Lawler, a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Centre, shared a series of slides with attendees about what his "best guess" was when estimating how the outbreak could impact hospitals and health officials. His webinar, titled "What healthcare leaders need to know: Preparing for the COVID-19", was presented on 26 February.
He estimated 96 million could become infected, and of those people 480,000 could die from the coronavirus based on how the virus might spread.
People aged 80 and over have a 14 per cent chance of dying if they have the infection, Dr Lawler estimates. Those aged 70 to 79 and 60 to 69 have an estimated mortality rate of 8 per cent and 3.6 percent if they contract the virus.
Social media comments about protecting bears that were posted by Lake Tahoe activists referring to a longtime wildlife biologist as a murderer constitute "good faith communications" protected as free speech, the Nevada Supreme Court says.
The recent opinion doesn't end a lawsuit filed in Washoe County District Court in Reno.
But it settles a key legal question in the dispute between Carl Lackey, a Nevada Department of Wildlife biologist, and Carolyn Stark, who administers a Facebook page that posts criticism of the state's bear control tactics, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.
The lawsuit is the latest development in a yearslong legal and public relations battle between the agency and a group of activists who oppose state methods for managing bears. In 2018, a judge issued a protective order to keep Stark, who lives in the community of Incline Village, away from another state biologist who says Stark stalked her in a dispute over the capture of nuisance bears.
The high court's opinion is a victory for Stark, who argued she was being unjustly targeted for her activism, and a setback for Lackey, who claims harm from the hostile posts.
In the decade since Fargo agreed to host a sweat lodge for the many Native Americans who live in the area, the simple structure and its users have suffered a series of indignities: The land set aside for the lodge is in a gritty industrial area, a shirtless user was mistaken for a vagrant and arrested, and police mistook the lodge for a homeless encampment and had it bulldozed.
Now, the city has shuttered the lodge because of concerns over its safety and supervision, and the Native Americans who use it are worried about how they will be able to carry out their sacred healing ritual, even if many of them agree that changes were needed.
"It would be equivalent to the Catholic Church shutting down its location here in the Fargo-Moorhead area because they realized they had issues they needed to fix," Chalsey Snyder, a member of the city's Native American Commission, said recently, referring to Moorhead, Minnesota, which is across the Red River from Fargo. "Our traditions and our ceremonies are extremely revered."
Snyder, who belongs to the Three Affiliated Tribes, said the shuttering of the Fargo sweat lodge in December has caused an emergency for its diverse users, including some who come from as far away as South Dakota and Canada. The ceremonies, which are often referred to as "sweats," are important rituals that are meant to purify mind and body and that serve various other functions, depending on the tribe. The ceremonies are typically broken into rounds, with singing, praying, talking and drumming.
When NASA's Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (Insight) lander set down on Mars in November of 2018, it began its two-year primary mission of studying Mars' seismology and interior environment.
And now, just over a year and a half later, the results of the lander's first twelve months on the Martian surface have been released in a series of studies.
One of these studies, which was recently published in the journal Nature Geosciences, shared some rather interesting finds about magnetic fields on Mars.
According to the research team behind it, the magnetic field within the crater where InSight's landed is ten times stronger than expected. These findings could help scientists resolve key mysteries about Mars' formation and subsequent evolution.
North American audiences are not staying away from theaters amid virus concerns, according to the weekend's box office numbers. Disney and Pixar's "Onward" topped the charts as expected and the Ben Affleck basketball drama "The Way Back" also opened normally.
"Onward" earned $40 million from 4,310 North American locations, according to studio estimates on Sunday. It's on the lower end of openings for the studio, more in line with "The Good Dinosaur's" launch in 2015. "Onward" is an original story about two teenage elf brothers voiced by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland who get a chance to spend one last day with their late father.
Universal and Blumhouse's "The Invisible Man" dropped to second place in week two with $15.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $52.7 million. Worldwide, it's just shy of $100 million.
In third place, Warner Bros.' "The Way Back" opened in line with projections with an estimated $8.5 million. The R-rated drama cost around $21 million to produce.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. "Onward," $40 million ($28 million international).
