Abraham Charles Vigoda (February 24, 1921 - January 26, 2016) was an American actor known for his portrayals of Salvatore Tessio in The Godfather (1972) and Phil Fish in Barney Miller (1975-1977, 1982) and Fish (1977-1978).

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is a 1960 children's book by Dr. Seuss. It is a simple rhyming book for beginning readers, with a freewheeling plot about a boy and a girl named Jay and Kay and the many amazing creatures they have for friends and pets. Interspersed are some rather surreal and unrelated skits, such as a man named Ned whose feet stick out from his bed, a creature who has a bird in his ear, and one man named Joe who cannot hear the other man's call. As of 2001, over 6 million copies of the book had been sold, placing it 13th on a list of "All-Time Bestselling Children's Books" from Publishers Weekly. Based on a 2007 online poll, the United States' National Education Association named the book one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children."

"One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." By Dr. Zeuss. Abe Vigoda starred as Detective Phil Fish on the 1970's "Barney Miller" TV sitcom, and the short lived 1978 TV spin off series "Fish." Earlier Vigoda won the role of Salvatore Tessio in "The Godfather" film after his participation in an open audition. Unlike most of the actors portraying Mafia leaders in the film, Vigoda was of Jewish descent, not Italian. For years before his actual death, at age 94 in 2016, there were regular internet hoaxes announcing Vidoga had just died. Hardy har har?

At a Christmas pageant, young Paul Candler Porter had to play a barefooted shepherd. He wasn't interested in being in the pageant, but being the son of a preacher, he knew he couldn't get out of it. Still, he wished to find a way to make it more interesting. During the pageant, young Paul stood still and looked down at his feet, and all of the other children in the pageant kept breaking out in laughter, although they tried to stifle it. After the pageant was over, Paul's parents found out what had happened. Young Paul had drawn funny faces on his feet and during the pageant had amused himself - and the other children in the pageant - by moving the muscles in his feet to make the faces change expression.

During church service, Barbara McKeever's grandson told her that a woman singing a solo couldn't sing very well. She answered, "She sings from her heart, so it's good." Afterward, she was singing along with the car radio, and her grandson told her, "You sing from the heart, too, don't you?"
Church of Christ preacher Raccoon John Smith spoke about Repentance for several Sundays in a row. When his congregation complained, Raccoon John replied, "When you doit, I'll quit preaching on that and take up something else."

In July 2008, Mary J. Blige overheard a stranger at the Diane von Furstenberg store in New York talking to a sales assistant about a dress. The customer had a $900 dress on hold, but she was dismayed when she heard the price because she had thought the dress cost $500, and she couldn't afford $900. Ms. Blige gave the woman $400. At first, the woman did not want to take the money, but Ms. Blige said, "I know what it's like to want something and not be able to have it. I insist." The woman then accepted the money, but said that she wanted to send Ms. Blige a check when she had the money. Ms. Blige declined the offer, saying, "Just enjoy it. I'm blessed, so let me do this."
Opera singer Mary Garden led a fairly simple life. Once, she and her sister Aggie were traveling out west on a train. Aggie wore a very nice nightgown made of silk and lace, while Mary had cold cream on her face, and was wearing a shawl and knitted cap to keep her warm. Aggie looked at her and said, "Mary, what an awful-looking woman you are! Shall I tell you something? If this train is wrecked tonight and both of us are killed, I shall probably be buried as the beautiful Mary Garden." Mary asked, "And I?" Aggie replied, "You will be buried as Mary Garden's maid."
Rabbi Joshua ben Levi visited Rome, where he saw a homeless man wearing rags on a street lined with statues adorned with expensive clothing. He prayed, "O Lord, here are statues of stone covered with expensive garments. Here is a man, created in Thine own image, covered with rags. A civilization that pays more attention to statues than to living men shall surely perish."
Choreographer John Taras wore good clothing - Pierre Cardin created many of his outfits. Mr. Taras also wore what he considered a good fragrance - Vetiver - although some other people disagreed about that. One day, Mr. Taras got in a taxi, and the driver sniffed, then asked him, "Hey, mister, do you smell something burning back there?"

Gut-wrenching World War I epic "1917" was the big winner at Sunday's British Academy Film Awards, winning seven awards including best picture and best director.
Sam Mendes' drama about one of the most devastating conflicts in British history bested hotly tipped American contenders "Joker," "The Irishman" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" at a glitzy London event that was overshadowed by criticism of the nominees' lack of diversity - even from some of the nominees themselves.
"1917" was also named best British film and won the cinematography prize - Roger Deakins' fifth win in that category. It also took the prizes for production design, sound and visual effects.
Joaquin Phoenix was named best actor for superhero story "Joker," which charts the origins of Batman's ginning nemesis. Renee Zellweger took the best actress prize for the Judy Garland biopic "Judy."
"Joker" took three prizes - best actor, casting and score - from 11 nominations. Martin Scorsese's mob drama "The Irishman" had 10 but went home empty-handed.
Loyal viewers of The Simpsons believe the animated Fox comedy warned the world about coronavirus decades ago.
As proof, they're citing a 1993 episode of the series, which featured a storyline about a virus called Osaka Flu spreading through Springfield after residents ordered juicers from Japan.
The episode shows juicers being packed into boxes in Japan as one of the workers says, "Please don't tell the supervisor I have the flu." He then coughs into the box, sending the virus to the U.S. Once the fancy juicers arrive in Springfield, most of the residents fall ill.
Even though the virus in the episode came from Japan, instead of Wuhan in China, fans have been burning up Twitter saying The Simpsons has a penchant for predicting global events.
Actress Rae Dawn Chong says she slept with Mick Jagger while 'young, underage jailbait': 'It wasn't a #MeToo moment'
Actress Rae Dawn Chong, who starred in Commando and The Color Purple in the 1980s, says she slept with Mick Jagger when she was an underage teen in two new interviews.
Chong, now 58, first referenced her connection to the Rolling Stones rocker, now 76, in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter podcast It Happened in Hollywood in which she spoke of being cast as Jagger's love interest in the 1985 music video for his single "Just Another Night." Chong, who was 24 at the time, credited the video for helping her land a role in Commando that year and said she got the gig after running into Jagger and bandmate Keith Richards on the street.
"When I was young, underage jailbait, I was hanging out with Mick Jagger," she told hosts Seth Abramovitch and Chip Pope. "And so I knew the Stones. I never saw the Stones. I was not necessarily a fan of the Stones, but I hung out with Mick a few times ... Super-underage, but whatever."
"We were friends, put it that way, with benefits," she continued. "I didn't want to be with him. I thought he was old, but I thought he was interesting because he was Mick Jagger. You know you're young, you're just newly sexual - even though you are underage - and it was like, yeah, it was easy-peasy. Should I be more horrified?"
Pennsylvania's most famous groundhog on Sunday declared: "Spring will be early, it's a certainty."
At sunrise on Groundhog Day, members of Punxsutawney Phil's top hat-wearing inner circle revealed the cuddly oracle's prediction - his 134th, according to the Pennsylvania Tourism Office.
Awoken by the crowd's chants of "Phil!" the groundhog was hoisted in the air for the assembly to hail before making his decision. He then grasped the glove of a handler as a member of his inner circle announced that spring would come early this year.
The annual event has its origin in a German legend that says if a furry rodent casts a shadow on Feb. 2, winter continues. If not, spring comes early.
Over the past five years - from 2015 through 2019 - Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter thrice and an early spring twice. According to records dating back to 1887, the Pennsylvanian prognosticator has predicted more winter more than 100 times, making this year's forecast a rare one overall.
Taxpayers shelled out another $3.4 million to send President Donald Trump (R-Pay To Play) to Florida this weekend so he could host a Super Bowl party for paying guests at his for-profit golf course.
The president's official schedule shows him spending two and a half hours Sunday evening at a "Super Bowl LIV watch party" at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Tickets sold for $75 each, but were only available to members of the club - the initiation fee for which reportedly runs about $450,000, with annual dues costing several thousands of dollars more.
"Well, obviously there are no TVs in the White House, so what alternative did he have?" quipped Robert Weissman, president of the liberal group Public Citizen. "He could have saved money by chartering a plane and flying club members to watch the game at the White House."
In response to a query, White House press secretary spokesliar Stephanie Grisham (R-Useless) defended Trump's trip and attacked HuffPost: "The premise of your story is ridiculous and false, and just more left-wing media bias on display. The president never stops working, and that includes when he is at the Winter White House."
Her phrase "Winter White House" refers to Mar-a-Lago, the for-profit resort in Palm Beach that is several miles east of the golf course and that doubled its initiation fee from $100,000 to $200,000 after Trump was elected in 2016. Trump frequently mingles with guests at social events there.
A Montana lawmaker is facing controversy after he claimed at an event for the state's Republican Party on Friday that the U.S. Constitution holds that socialists can be jailed or shot, reports say.
State Rep. Rodney Garcia, who represents part of Billings, Mont., in House District 52, also expressed concern about socialists "entering our government" at an event in Helena, Mont., on Friday, according to the Billings Gazette.
Asked by a reporter about the comments on Saturday, Garcia reportedly stood by them.
"So actually in the Constitution of the United States (if) they are found guilty of being a socialist member you either go to prison or are shot," he told a reporter, according to the Billings Gazette. "They're enemies of the free state," Garcia reportedly said. "What do we do with our enemies in war?"
The state's Republican Party reportedly spoke out against the comments on Saturday. Spenser Merwin, the executive director of the Montana Republican Party, said in a statement Saturday that the party "wholeheartedly condemns the comment that was made and under no circumstance is violence against someone with opposing political views acceptable," according to the Associated Press. He said it was a shame that Garcia's comments had detracted from the weekend's other events, which were intended to start off the election year.
A Venice port area was evacuated on Sunday morning as a World War II-era bomb was defused and set to be exploded in the sea.
The operation in the port of Marghera, a mostly industrial area separated from the tourist city by water, required the evacuation of about 3,500 residents beginning in the early morning.
Boat, train and bus traffic was all halted during the operation and planes were prohibited from flying to and from Marco Polo Airport from 8:30am (0730GMT) until 12:30 pm.
The bomb, which weighed about 225 kilos (500 pounds) and contained about 129 kilos of TNT, was discovered during an excavation to fix sewer lines in January.
At mid-morning, authorities said the first two phases of the operation - the evacuation of residents, and the process to strip the fuses from the bombs, had been successfully completed.
After years of back-breaking toil, Fatima el Hanani now fears being reduced to begging in the street because of Morocco's closure of its border with a Spanish enclave to thousands of "mule women".
The impact has been felt on both sides of the frontier, with the Moroccan porters who lugged duty-free Spanish goods left out of work and shops closing as livelihoods dry up for traders.
"They want to turn us into beggars," says Hanani, who had spent all her working life transporting heavy loads from Ceuta to the town of Fnideq in the North African kingdom.
Like thousands of other Moroccan women -- and also men -- she would cross every day into the Spanish enclave and come back laden with merchandise for traders.
Goods brought on foot through the crossing on a hill looking over the Mediterranean are not subjected to import duties, unlike those brought by vehicles.
"Bad Boys of Life" went for a three-peat at the box office during Super Bowl weekend.
The Sony Pictures' film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence brought in $17.6 million to claim the No. 1 spot for the third straight week. The studio said the third installment became the highest-grossing film in the franchise with $148 million, eclipsing "Bad Boys II."
The World War I tale "1917" notched second as the film continues to build momentum as an Oscars contender. It has been an impressive feat for the Sam Mendes-directed war movie after going from 11 screen s in its first week to nearly 4,000.
It was a bumpy start for newcomers "Gretel & Hansel" and "The Rhythm Section," which barely cracked the top 10.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore.
1. "Bad Boys for Life," $17.6 million, ($30.8 million international).
2. "1917," $9.6 million, ($20.9 million international).
