YouTube: "Farmer Style (Gangnam Style Parody)"
"This isn't a parody video of "Gangnam Style," but a new parody song to the tune of PSY's song. The Peterson Farm Boys brought us I'm Farming and I Grow It, and this one is just as clever. Again, they are extolling the importance of agriculture and their pride in living "Farmer Style." -Neatorama
Tom Danehy: Thanks to weak laws and a lack of oversight, some of Arizona's charter schools are bilking Arizona (Tucson Weekly)
For Arizona's charter schools, the financial sleight-of-hand du jour is, "We'll take your money, spend it as we wish, and not tell you where it went. You just have to trust us." Sorry, but I don't.
Susan Estrich: The Miracle of the Rule of Law (Creators Syndicate)
It's easy, as a law professor and practicing lawyer, to take the rule of law for granted and even to question its existence. In my classes, I teach students cases in which courts, on similar facts, reach conflicting results, notwithstanding the fundamental principle that the rule of law means like cases must be treated alike. What's the difference, I ask my students, knowing that sometimes, the answer is no more than who is sitting in the room.

Charlie Jane Anders: "Asterix: The Great Unsung Fantasy Hero" (io9)
Asterix the Gaul has a huge following in Europe, thanks to decades of adventures in the Roman Empire and the rest of the world. But he's never gotten his props in the United States, and few people recognize his importance in the fantasy canon. Here's why Asterix deserves more props as a fantasy hero.
Roger Ebert: Review of "Fat Kid Rules the World" (R; 3 ½ stars)
"Fat Kid Rules the World" is a movie with a title that might be misleading: It's a lot better than it sounds like it has any right to be.

Johnny Carson Feud
Joan Rivers
A lot has changed since Joan Rivers got into comedy - Mindy Kaling, Kristen Wiig, Sarah Silverman, and loads of other female comics have made it clear that women are funny - but she remembers the days when she was treated like week-old leftovers.
In an essay for the Hollywood Reporter , Rivers, 79, opened up about not being one of the boys and her falling out with Johnny Carson, for whom she guest hosted for years on "The Tonight Show."
"My group was Woody [Allen] and George [Carlin] and Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby. Rodney Dangerfield. Dick Cavett," she said about the comedians she came up with. "But I never was one of the guys. I was never asked to go hang out - I never thought about it until later. They would all go to the Stage Delicatessen afterward and talk. I never got to go uptown and have a sandwich with them. So, even though I was with them, I wasn't with them."
According to Rivers, she landed on "The Tonight Show" after a male comic on the show bombed and Cosby told a producer, "Joan Rivers couldn't be any worse than this guy. Why don't you use her?"
"I adored Johnny," she said. "In the '70s, I did opening monologues, I was hosting. The turning point was when I left the show. Everybody left the show to go to do their own shows. Bill Cosby. David Brenner. George Carlin. Everybody. I stuck around for 18 years. And they finally offered me my own late-night show. The first person I called was Johnny, and he hung up on me - and never, ever spoke to me again. And then denied that I called him. I couldn't figure it out. I would see him in a restaurant and go over and say hello. He wouldn't talk to me."

Current TV Interview
Tommy Chong
Tommy Chong, the actor, comedian and marijuana activist, believes the legalization of recreational use of the drug in two states last month has rekindled the pro-pot movement.
"Washington and Colorado are just the toe into the water," Chong said in an interview on Al Gore's Current TV network on Wednesday. "The whole body's following."
Chong, best known for his role opposite Richard "Cheech" Marin in "Up in Smoke," predicted that the Nov. 6 votes will have a ripple effect on the rest of the country, including the dissolution of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
"It's going to empty the jails, and we're probably going to disband the DEA," Chong, 74, said, pumping his fist.

Hospital News
Roger Ebert
Famed Chicago movie critic Roger Ebert has been hospitalized with a hip fracture.
His wife, Chaz Ebert, told The Associated Press on Thursday that her husband was doing much better and "doctors are making assessments" about when he could leave the hospital.
Chaz Ebert tweeted earlier in the day that her Pulitzer Prize-winning husband was doing well and "asking for computer, will probably tweet." She jokingly attributed the fracture to "tricky disco dance moves."
The 70-year-old Chicago Sun-Times film critic has had health problems over the last several years. He has battled cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands and lost his ability to speak and eat after cancer surgeries.

Arkansas Version Closes
Passion Play
For decades, visitors from around the world descended on the small Ozark mountain hamlet of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, to see The Great Passion Play, the tale of Jesus Christ's last week on earth.
The flashy play with a cast of hundreds, including live animals, was performed for 45 seasons in the shadow of the seven-story Christ of the Ozarks statue on Magnetic Mountain.
But no more. The lights are out on the statue, and it and a 700-acre campus are up for sale.
The Elna M. Smith Foundation, which owns the site, has announced it is unable to continue producing the play, which ran from May to October each year. The foundation has also shut the doors on exhibits including its famous Bible collection.
The Elna M. Smith Foundation was founded in the 1960s by Elna and Gerald L.K. Smith, a 1944 presidential candidate for the America First Party. He was known for his anti-Semitic views and pushed an anti-United Nations agenda.

Says Censorship Necessary
Mo Yan
This year's Nobel literature winner Mo Yan, who has been criticized for his cozy relationship with China's Communist Party, defended censorship Thursday as something as necessary as airport security checks.
He also suggested he has no plans to join an appeal calling for the release of the jailed 2010 Peace Prize laureate, Liu Xiaobo.
Mo has been criticized by human rights activists for not being a more outspoken defendant of freedom of speech and for being a member of the Communist Party-backed writers' association.
Awarding him the prize has also brought criticism from previous Nobel winners. Herta Mueller, the 2009 literature laureate, called the jury's choice of Mo a "catastrophe" in an interview with the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter last month. She also accused Mo of protecting China's censorship laws.

Sues NBC
Trayvon's Killer
George Zimmerman (IOKIYAR) sued NBC on Thursday, claiming he was defamed when the network edited his 911 call to police after the shooting of Trayvon Martin to make it sound like he was racist.
The former neighborhood watch volunteer filed the lawsuit seeking an undisclosed amount of money in Seminole County, outside Orlando. Also named in the complaint were three reporters covering the story for NBC or an NBC-owned television station.
The complaint said the airing of the edited call has inflicted emotional distress on Zimmerman, making him fear for his life and causing him to suffer nausea, insomnia and anxiety.
The lawsuit claims NBC edited his phone call to a dispatcher last February. In the call, Zimmerman describes following Martin in the gated community where he lived, just moments before he fatally shot the 17-year-old teen during a confrontation.

Stephen Baldwin
Actor Stephen Baldwin (R-Religiously Insane) was charged Thursday with failing to pay New York state taxes for three years, amassing a $350,000 debt.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said Baldwin, of Upper Grandview, skipped his taxes in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The youngest of the four acting Baldwin brothers pleaded not guilty at an arraignment and was freed without bail. His lawyer, Russell Yankwitt, said Baldwin should not have been charged.
Zugibe said Baldwin owes more than $350,000 in tax and penalties.
"We cannot afford to allow wealthy residents to break the law by cheating on their taxes," the district attorney said. "The defendant's repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools."

Dennis Rodman
Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has been found in contempt of court and ordered to pay $500,000 in back child support to his ex-wife, her attorney said Thursday.
The flamboyant basketball player known for his off-court antics was also sentenced to informal probation, his ex-wife's attorney, Mary Ann Noiroux, told City News Service. Orange County Superior Court Commissioner Barry Michaelson warned Rodman could face jail time if he doesn't pay the child support, she said.
Rodman and his ex-wife, Michelle, must still work out custody and visitation for their two pre-teen children: a son and a daughter.
A trial is set for Jan. 24 on those issues, but the two hope to work out an agreement before the court date, Noiroux said.

No-Show At Arraignment
Katt Williams
Comedian Katt Williams didn't show up at an arraignment hearing in Seattle to face assault charges stemming from several run-ins with people and police last weekend.
Williams' attorney, Thomas McAllister, told the judge Thursday that his client was under the impression that he didn't have to attend the hearing, citing information from a Seattle Times article. McAllister says Williams is back in California.
Authorities say Williams struck a man over the head with a microphone while performing Friday night, threw chairs at fans, and threatened a bar manager with a pool cue over the weekend.
Authorities say officers had to restrain Williams before he was taken into custody after the bar incident.

Malibu
A whale carcass rotting near celebrity homes in Malibu is causing a gigantic cleanup problem as authorities try to decide who's responsible for getting rid of it.
Los Angeles County lifeguards planned to try to pull the 40,000-pound carcass out to sea, perhaps at high tide Thursday, said Cindy Reyes, executive director of the California Wildlife Center.
The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors was not responsible for disposing of the more than 40-foot body, said Carol Baker, who represents the agency.
"It's on a private beach" controlled by homeowners down to the high tide line and the state is responsible for the tidelands, Baker said.
The young male fin whale washed up Monday between Paradise Cove and Point Dume, near the homes of Barbra Streisand and Bob Dylan.
