In 1972, U.S. Senator Charles H. Percy (R-IL) entered an apology into the Congressional Record for a santimonious speech Edwin C. Johnson (D-CO) made 22 years earlier. Who was Johnson's target?
Edwin Carl Johnson (January 1, 1884 - May 30, 1970) was a Democrat who served as both governor and U.S. senator from the U.S. state of Colorado.
He was perhaps best known for making a speech on the Senate floor criticizing the extramarital affair of actress Ingrid Bergman, who at the time was married to Petter Lindström. Bergman's affair with Italian director Roberto Rossellini became a cause celebre as a result of Johnson's speech, forcing her to relocate to Europe for several years until her return to Hollywood in the 1956 blockbuster film Anastasia. In 1972, Senator Charles H. Percy of Illinois entered an apology into the Congressional Record for the attack made on Bergman twenty-two years earlier.

Lois Of Organ (hahah, dick joke!) was first, and correct, with:
Hahaha, so this guy named JOHNSON, HAHAHAH, had a huge
hard-on for the actress Ingrid Bergman, hahahah, and when he
found out she had got preggers by some guy who was NOT her
husband (GASP!), when she COULD have had HIM for the ASKING,
he reacted as any pubescent boy would and censured her in
congress (your tax dollars at work!). But then, he also
criticised FDR. It is right and fitting that the eastbound
BORE of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel is named for
him. Hahahaha, Johnson Tunnel...get it!?! What a dick.

I believe actress Ingrid Bergman was Johnson's target - back in the days when people were upset about adultery...
She was a wonderful actress though a bit loose in the morals...
PS: I remember Senator Charles Percy from the (still unsolved) murder of one of his twin daughters. So sad...

A Russian court on Thursday granted bail to the last of 30 Greenpeace crew members detained since their September protest against Arctic oil drilling.
The decision to free the ship's Australian radio operator Colin Russell reversed an earlier ruling and is likely to take diplomatic pressure off Russia as it prepares to host the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.
Russell was the only member of the multinational Arctic Sunrise crew to have had his bail request denied in a series of hearings held since November 18.
Thursday's ruling came less than two week after the same court ordered that Russell remain in pre-trial detention until the day after Russia's Winter Games end in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on February 23.
Hawaii officials said Wednesday they are investigating whether any state regulations were broken during the filming of the History channel's television show "American Jungle."
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said in a statement that an episode that aired Nov. 17 showed hunters at night, but hunting at night is illegal on both public and private land.
Maps used on the show also demark areas under the department's jurisdiction, even though the state denied a request by the production crew for a permit to film on state forest lands, the department said.
The first episode, broadcast Nov. 10, shows hunters using spears and dogs to hunt a cow, the department said, even though it's illegal to hunt cattle without a special feral cattle control permit.
The show is also culturally insensitive, the department said. There's no evidence that native Hawaiians ever used spears to hunt cattle or pigs in the forest. Early Hawaiians brought pigs with them to the islands on canoes.
A Lithuanian artist who angered Malaysian officials with a street mural depicting a knife-wielding Lego robber has found unlikely admirers across the border in graffiti-averse Singapore for his works on a softer theme.
Ernest Zacharevic, who has been likened to British graffiti artist Banksy, has seen photos of his murals depicting children playing go viral on Facebook as Singaporeans unused to seeing art on outdoor walls expressed their approval.
Zacharevic received permission from the owners of private buildings in Singapore to paint the child-themed murals in the city's picturesque Muslim trading and dining quarter, thereby avoiding a possible jail term for vandalism.
"It's been a very interesting experience," the 27-year-old Zacharevic told AFP by telephone.
"They do appreciate it. The moment I get out my tools, people approach me and they ask me what I'm doing," said the artist, who has a studio in Malaysia's Penang state.
A sticker art made by an artist known as 281 Antinuke is seen on a traffic light on a street in Tokyo November 26, 2013. With his face hidden behind sunglasses and a white surgical mask, the artist is almost as invisible as the radioactive contamination he is protesting against - yet his stickers are graphic reminders of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Known as 281 Antinuke, Japan's answer to Banksy has covered Tokyo streets in images depicting politicians as vampires and children being shielded from radioactive rain to highlight the consequences of a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant after an earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.

Activists vowed Thursday to block the proposed sale of sacred objects originating from Arizona's Hopi tribe at a Paris auction, just months after a similar controversy stoked outrage.
Tribal people's advocacy group Survival International said it would go to court in the French capital on Tuesday in an attempt to halt the sale of around 25 objects, known as katsinam, revered by the Hopi tribe.
The looming court battle is a replay of the legal saga that erupted in April when French firm Neret-Minet Tessier & Sarrou ignored internationals appeals to halt the sale of some 70 katsinam that eventually fetched around 930,000 euros ($1.3 million).
The latest sale is being conducted over two days by Alain Leroy of auctioneers EVE on December 9 and 11, despite please from the Hopi's religious authorities not to go ahead.
Lawyer Pierre Servan-Schreiber, who led an unsuccessful bid to halt the previous sale in April, will head London-based Survival and the Hopi's latest courtroom battle.
A group of ghost hunters has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a historic mansion near New Orleans. Perhaps inspired by the hit SyFy television series "Ghost Hunters" and its many imitators, the men climbed through a hole in a fence and broke into the LeBeau Plantation house near the Mississippi Riveron Nov. 21.
According to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office, the men were looking for ghosts. Though nobody was harmed, the fire shines a light on the dark side of ghost hunting, a side that seems to be only gaining in popularity.
The mansion, built in the 1850s, had survived through many incarnations, operating as a boarding house, a hotel and even an illegal gambling house. Though the mansion had been shuttered in recent years, its owner, the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation, had plans to renovate the building.
The fire at LeBeau broke out at about 2 a.m. local time Friday, Nov. 21, and the building was almost completely destroyed by the time firefighters arrived. The ghost hunters had been trying to produce a reaction from the spirits they assumed resided there, by doing what TV ghost hunters call "provocation," essentially making loud noises, yelling taunts at the ghosts and banging on walls. Frustrated that their efforts failed to yield any spirits, the group decided to light a fire. Whether this was intended to smoke the spirits out or simply burn the place down, the resulting flames soon reduced the mansion to ashes and four brick chimneys.
While many ghost hunters engage in harmless (and fruitless) fun, as this case shows, there can be a dark, dangerous side to the pursuit. In the wake of popular ghost-hunting TV shows, police across the country have seen a surge in people being arrested, injured and even killed while looking for ghosts .
Models present lingerie maker Triumph's new concept bra, the "Omotenashi Compact Bra", during its unveiling in Tokyo November 28, 2013. This year's bra focused on the Japanese spirit of omotenashi (meaning "attending to guests with warmhearted hospitality"), which has been drawing increasing attention around the world as a key Japanese characteristic, the company said. The characters on the bra reads "sincere heart". The collapsible cups and handtowels are stored in the bras to be used when attending to guests.

The National Park Service has withdrawn "inappropriate" comments about a proposed rule regulating hydraulic fracturing operations on public lands.
Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis says no one in management reviewed the staff comments, which he said were submitted erroneously to the federal Bureau of Land Management. Both agencies are part of the Interior Department.
In a letter to Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, Jarvis said the park service erred when it submitted the unsigned comments, which quoted a New York Times opinion column written by Cornell University Professor Anthony Ingraffea, a well-known critic of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. Ingraffea has argued that shale gas produced by fracking poses a greater global warming risk than coal, primarily because of methane leaks during production.
The agency's action "illustrates a shared agenda" between the Obama administration and "anti-energy" special interest groups, Bishop said. Ingraffea is president of Physicians, Scientists and Engineers for Healthy Energy, a nonprofit group, and has appeared with the "Artists Against Fracking Coalition," an activist group that includes Yoko Ono and other celebrities
The Obama administration is trying to rein in the use of tax-exempt groups for political campaigning.
The effort launched Tuesday is an attempt to reduce the role of loosely regulated big-money political outfits like GOP political guru Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS and the pro-Obama Priorities USA.
The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department said they want to prohibit such groups from using "candidate-related political activity" like running ads, registering voters or distributing campaign literature as activities that qualify them to be tax-exempt "social welfare" organizations.
The agencies say there will be a lengthy comment period before any regulations will be finalized. That means groups like Crossroads and Priorities USA will be able to collect millions of dollars from anonymous donors ahead of next year's campaign.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer with a medical marijuana prescription for job-related stress provoked a national debate Thursday over whether he should be allowed to smoke in uniform.
Corporal Ronald Francis serves in Canada's New Brunswick province, and reportedly received a prescription for medical-grade marijuana on November 4.
He told Canada's public broadcaster CBC that he should be allowed to smoke joints while in uniform, but received a cool response from his bosses who fear tarnishing the RCMP's image.
His prescription allows for three grams, or up to 15 joints, a day, though he said he does not typically smoke that much.
"I get up in the morning, have my coffee and the marijuana. I go at lunchtime, have a marijuana joint, and then again in the evening. That would be my medical regime. But that may change with my tolerance to THC. It may take two joints in the morning, I don't know," he said.
The agency in charge of the troubled HealthCare.gov website said on Wednesday is it switching providers of Web hosting services, the latest change for the website at the heart of President Barack Obama's health care reforms.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) said it is replacing data center services from Verizon Communications Inc's Terremark subsidiary, with services from Hewlett-Packard Co.
Terremark's data center experienced issues in late October that caused outages across the system, prompting embattled Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to phone Verizon's chief executive to discuss the problems.
Both Verizon and HP declined comment on the contract change, as did the White House, which referred questions about the contract to CMS.
Jane Kean, a diverse performer who got her start in musical theatre but was best known as Trixie alongside Jackie Gleason on a TV revival of "The Honeymooners," has died. She was 90.
Kean, of Toluca Lake, died Tuesday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank where she was taken after a fall that led to a hemorrhagic stroke, her niece, Deirdre Wolpert, said Thursday.
Kean first started working with Jackie Gleason in the 1940s, when they were both on the vaudeville circuit.
Her big break, however, came in 1966 when Gleason and CBS revived the hit show "The Honeymooners" in Miami Beach, expanding it to an hour and adding musical numbers.
Kean, a talented singer with a belting voice, starred on the show for five years as Ed Norton's beleaguered wife Trixie.
Born in Hartford, Conn., on April 10, 1923, Kean got into show business at an early age along with her sister, Betty, with the encouragement of her mother.
She headlined at the London Palladium before making her debut in a 1943 Broadway production of the Fats Waller musical "Early to Bed."
She eventually moved to Los Angeles and appeared in some films for MGM before forming a comedy act in the 1950s with her sister, who is Wolpert's mother. The all-female comedy team, a rarity at the time, played night clubs and rubbed shoulders with comedians like Milton Berle.
After jumping to TV, Kean stayed on "The Honeymooners" for five years before leaving to pursue other avenues, including guest appearances, performing in Las Vegas and doing voice work. In 1977, she worked on the children's movie "Pete's Dragon" - behind-the-scenes work that the usually glamorous actress joked she didn't like because she didn't need to wear make-up, her niece said. Most recently, she provided the voice of Aunt Ida in the new children's film "Abner the Invisible Dog," said her publicist Alan Eichler.
Last year, Kean put on a one-woman show that was a retrospective of her life's work. She performed it again at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre just months ago and had plans to travel to London after Christmas with her niece. She was also preparing invitations for her annual Christmas party in the days before her death, Wolpert said.
In addition to Wolpert, Kean is survived by Wolpert's husband and two children and a stepson from her second marriage, Joseph Hecht Jr., and his family.
Her sister Betty Kean died in 1986. Her second husband, her manager Joe Hecht, died in 2006.
