Jim Hightower: WHAT DOES "GRASS FED" MEAN (jimhightower.com)
The good news is that your U.S. department of agriculture has created a new label to help you consumers know when grass fed meat actually comes from animals that, you know, were raised on grass. The bad news is that this is George W's department of agriculture - where business always comes first and consumer protection is a joke.

Star Trek broke many taboos, including the kiss between Capt. Kirk
and Uhura. This was a big deal. At the time, states still had
anti-miscegenation laws on their books: Racism was (and is)
institutionalized... but not in the clean future of
Gene Rodenberry.
And whether it's a coincidence or not, forty years later both
William Shatner (Kirk) and
Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) are currently starring on
hit tv shows (respectively, "Boston Legal"
and "Heroes").

The answer is D: Kirk and Uhura

my guess is star trek.
by the way, I loved that 100 movies 100 numbers link. that was way cool.
kitchenrat kept it simple with:
First interracial kiss was in outer space
Sandra B answered:
It was Star Trek. The kiss was between Captain Kirk and Lt. Uhura, and it was so controversial at the time there were some stations in the south, most notably Texas, that refused to air the episode.
Adam in NHwd said:
Star Trek, although it was forced on Uhura and Kirk by mind control.
All In The Family had a Sammy Davis Jr giving a reluctant Archie Bunker

I Spy - well, that would have been something.

Star Trek, after banging all those alien chicks I guess Kirk kissing a

And, Sally P was also right when she wrote:
Usually I avoid the TV trivia questions, because I watch so little on television. That being said, however, the answer to, "The first interracial kiss on American TV (yada, yada) HAS to be, "D" or Star Trek. I was a HUGE Star Trek fan (in case you were wondering why my son was a geek)...
I actually saw that episode (circa late 60s or early 70s) when (my hero) Captain James T Kirk and the African American Lieutenant "Uhura" embraced. I also remember it caused a big stink from the censors, but I didn't care: I was SO jealous of her! Nowadays, whenever I see William Shatner on TV, I find myself shivering with mild repulsion.

It was an unlikely combination of entertainers: Bruce Springsteen singing "Thunder Road," a Marine Corps band playing taps and "Amazing Grace," Robin Williams cracking off-color jokes.
They all shared the stage Wednesday night at a star-studded Manhattan benefit for wounded U.S. service members, organized by ABC's Bob Woodruff. The newsman became a champion of the cause after he was nearly killed by a roadside bomb while working in Iraq last year.
"Stand Up for Heroes," a benefit for the Bob Woodruff Family Fund, was expected to bring in upward of $2.5 million, organizers said, including proceeds from an online auction at charityfolks.com.
The event, produced in partnership with the New York Comedy Festival, was emceed by Conan O'Brien, who quipped that his performance was hobbled both by the current Hollywood writer's strike ("If anyone has a joke, I'm paying cash") and the need to shift the tone to comedy after a mournful rendition of taps by the Marine Corps band. "I'm a comedian following taps!" he moaned.
Along with O'Brien and Williams, comics Lewis Black and Brian Regan did standup routines. But the highlight for the audience was Springsteen, who performed three songs and then returned to auction off his Harley-Davidson (the motorcycle went for $85,000.)

After 25 years, the Bluebird Cafe, the famed songwriters club where Garth Brooks and Faith Hill were discovered and where so many hits were first performed, is changing ownership.
The Nashville Songwriters Association bought the club in a deal that ensures it will keep operating as a hub for songwriters, founder and longtime owner Amy Kurland told The Associated Press.
The ownership change, which will be announced in a Thursday night performance by Country Music Hall of Famer Kris Kristofferson, takes effect Jan. 1.
Kurland didn't disclose the sale price, but she described it as "extremely reasonable - even unreasonable." Bart Herbison, executive director of the NSA, said he views the sale essentially as a contribution.
After honoring the movie business with Oscars for nearly 80 years, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is planning to celebrate cinema in still another way - on about eight acres in the heart of Hollywood.
The academy has commissioned an architect to design what is probably the world's first museum dedicated to capturing the full scope of filmmaking.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will occupy two city blocks not far from the Kodak Theatre, where the Academy Awards are held. The moviemaking crafts represented will correspond with the academy's 15 branches, including actors, producers, directors and screenwriters.
The architect for the museum complex is French firm Atelier Christian de Portzamparc.
The name "Kerouac" typically evokes a sense of hip, cool, rebellion, exploration and of course "Beat," as in voice of the Beat Generation.
But an exhibit opening on Friday at the New York Public Library reveals some less flattering sides of the writer: mama's boy, anti-Semite and perhaps misogynist.
The centerpiece is a scroll on which Kerouac wrote "On the Road," the iconic work of the counterculture Beat Generation and one that is marking its 50th anniversary.
Some 60 feet, roughly half of the scroll, extends in a glass case around which is mounted the raw material of Kerouac's life: handwritten notebooks, photographs, diaries, letters, paintings and manuscripts.

Michelle Phillips, the last surviving member of The Mamas & The Papas, said actor Warren Beatty was the love of her life but that he lost her because he did not know how to treat women.
In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine released this week, she said, "I was madly in love with him," but ultimately she was put off by what she called his passive-aggressive behavior.
"I love (his wife) Annette Bening, and I pray for her every day! She can manage the guy, and I never could. He drove me nuts!"
In the article, Phillips also discusses other loves of her life, including Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper and her relationship with ex-husband John Phillips, who died six years ago.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has been asked to carry out a full inventory and improve security after an audit found tens of thousands of mementos unaccounted for.
National Archives Inspector General Paul Brachfeld said on Thursday that the Reagan Library complex, outside Los Angeles, could account for only 20,000 of an estimated 100,000 items in its collection.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday that the National Archives audit found the library "may have experienced loss or pilferage the scope of which will likely never be known."

A scooter-riding Mickey Rourke was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence. Rourke, star of "Sin City," "Diner" and "9 1/2 Weeks," was arrested at 4:20 a.m. and booked at the Miami-Dade County Jail, said Janelle Hall, a jail spokeswoman. He was released on a $1,000 bond, she said.
A Miami Beach Police report said Rourke made a U-turn with a red light and then swerved several times while on a green scooter. He had a flushed face and bloodshot, watery eyes, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, the report said.
"I'm not drunk, I didn't even drink that much," the report quoted Rourke as saying.
Rourke, 51, allegedly failed field-sobriety tests before being taken to headquarters. He also failed an alcohol breath test, police said.
A Georgia woman who claims to have married James Brown in 1953 says in court papers they were never divorced and she wants to be part of his estate.
Velma Warren Brown, 73, filed a sworn statement in Aiken County court Wednesday claiming she was never served with divorce papers and didn't sign any agreement severing her marriage to the late soul singer. Brown died Christmas Day at age 73.
However, at least two attorneys involved in disputes over Brown's estate and trust discounted the woman's claim, and said she had remarried.
The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle also reported Thursday on its Web site that it had obtained court documents showing a judge had granted a divorce in 1969.

The art market stumbled on Wednesday when a Vincent van Gogh landscape, painted just before the artist's death, went unsold and top works by Gauguin and Picasso all came up short at a Sotheby's auction.
With a total take of just under $270 million, Sotheby's Impressionist and modern art auction fell far short of even its low pre-sale estimate of $355 million.
Of the 76 lots on offer, 20 failed to find buyers, including Van Gogh's highly anticipated "Wheat Fields," an 1890 landscape painted only days before his suicide in a town outside Paris.
However, Gauguin's vibrant Tahitian work "Te Poipoi (The Morning)" did sell and was the evening's top lot. But the $39,241,000 price, including commission, fell short of its low estimate of $40 million. It was bought by Hong Kong collector Joseph Lau, Sotheby's said.
For six decades, Sam Sabbagh carried a good luck charm - a parchment he found on the floor of a burned synagogue.
Turns out that parchment likely is more than 1,000 years old, a fragment of the most authoritative manuscript of the Hebrew Bible. His family plans to present it to a Jerusalem institute next week, officials said Thursday.
The parchment, about "the size of a credit card," is believed to be part of the Aleppo Codex manuscript of the Hebrew Bible, said Michael Glatzer, academic secretary of the Yad Ben Zvi institute.

The Guinness Book of World Records has ruled that a church steeple in Germany, not the famous leaning tower of Pisa, is the most tilted tower in the world.
The 25.7-metre steeple tilts at an angle of 5.07 degrees, while the tower of Pisa tilts at just 3.97 degrees, said Olaf Kuchenbecker, head of Guinness's German edition.
The 15th century German church tower stands in Suurhusen, a small village near Emden in northwestern Germany. Although its tilt angle is greater than Pisa's tower, it has less than half the Italian tower's height and none of its ornate beauty.
Yellowstone National Park, once the site of a giant volcano, has begun swelling up, possibly because molten rock is accumulating beneath the surface, scientists report.
Smith and colleagues report in Friday's issue of the journal Science that the flow of the ancient Yellowstone crater has been moving upward almost 3 inches per year for the past three years.
That is more than three times faster than ever observed since such measurements began in 1923, the researchers said.
"Our best evidence is that the crustal magma chamber is filling with molten rock," Smith said in a statement. "But we have no idea how long this process goes on before there either is an eruption or the inflow of molten rock stops and the caldera deflates again."
