Brandon Presser: 12 Shocking Things I Learned by Working as a Butler at the Plaza Hotel (Bloomberg)
Old-school service is alive and well at the Plaza: High tea treats are served in brass birdcages, tuxedo-clad bellman whisk away luggage to gilded suites, and chefs bear toques that tower above their heads. But in the age of Amazon Prime-when we all want everything now-what is it really like blending vestigial aristocratic assistance with light-speed wish fulfillment?

The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. is an American spy fiction TV series that aired on NBC for one season from September 16, 1966 to April 11, 1967. The series was a spin-off from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and used the same theme music composed by Jerry Goldsmith, in a different arrangement by Dave Grusin.
The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. stars Stefanie Powers as American U.N.C.L.E. agent April Dancer and Noel Harrison (son of Rex Harrison) as her British partner, Mark Slate. Leo G. Carroll plays their superior, Alexander Waverly. The character name "April Dancer" was suggested by James Bond creator Ian Fleming who was a consultant in the creation of the parent program shortly before his death.

Saw an article yesterday about Predator's body language during the Fire & Fury crap--hands across his body, hugging himself--totally defensive and afraid.
And he just did it again! Telling North Korea to go on and kill Americans in Guam, his hands are folded across his body.
We used to teach our guys to read body language as it gives a person away more than words. The rest of the world is totally seeing through his scared little boy bombast, but it still moves us closer to nuclear annihilation for this jackass to spew his idiocy!

The evidence behind global climate change continues to mount, and scientists keep speaking out. Now they hope the world will listen.
The latest international climate report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirms that 2016 was the third consecutive year of record global heat.
On Thursday afternoon the American Meteorological Society published the 27th annual "State of the Climate" report, which verifies last year surpassed 2015 as the hottest since record keeping began in 1880.
Based on preliminary data, NASA and NOOA had made the same assessment back in January, but this week's report is considered definitive.
According to the report, the effect of long-term global warming and a powerful El Niño early on pushed 2016 into record-setting warmth. The global average sea level reached a new record high last year as well, to 3.25 inches above the average level in 1993, which marks the beginning of the satellite altimeter record.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci will appear as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert next week.
The controversial financier and political figure will chat with Colbert on Monday, Aug. 14, the host announced on Twitter Wednesday. "This is just a heads up for our censors to get ready!" he said in the tweet.
Scaramucci stepped down from the communications director role just ten days after the announcement of his appointment by Donald Trump (R-Buffoon). The move was likely prompted by a profane interview given to the New Yorker in which Scaramucci made obscene, expletive-laden statements about members several members of the Trump Administration.
Trump fired Scaramucci after newly-appointed Chief of Staff John Kelly made the recommendation. His tenure lasted less than two weeks.
Archaeologists may have discovered evidence of an ancient civilisation that disappeared from a corner of the southwestern US over seven centuries ago.
The exodus of the Ancestral Puebloans has baffled scientists for years after they vanished without a trace from Colorado's Mesa Verde National Park in the 13th Century.
One theory was the group - also known as the Anasazi - had simply migrated several hundred kilometres east.
Now scientists may have found the evidence to prove that theory by studying the genetic composition of ancient animal bones buried in the region.
Mitochondrial DNA from ancient turkey bones found there had been an influx of fowl in the late 1300s, and prior to 1280 the turkeys' lineage had been different.

Files $50 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Reporter
Bolling
Suspended Fox News host Eric Bolling on Wednesday sued the reporter who broke the story that he had allegedly sent lewd text messages to colleagues.
Bolling filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Manhattan against Yashar Ali, a Huffington Post contributing writer. The cable news host said Ali damaged his reputation through what the court papers call the "highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff's conduct and character."
Bolling was suspended over the weekend pending an internal investigation that a Fox spokesperson said is underway.
Ali wrote last week that Bolling is accused of sending unsolicited photos of male genitalia to co-workers over several years.
Huffington Post is not involved in the legal action.
CNN severed ties with Jeffrey Lord Thursday after Lord tweeted, "Sieg Heil!" in what he characterized as an attempt to "mock" Nazism and fascism.
"Nazi salutes are indefensible," a CNN spokesperson said. "Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network."
The brouhaha began as a tangle between Lord and Angelo Carusone, the president of Media Matters for America, a liberal media watchdog group. MMFA has been supporting an advertising boycott of Fox News' "Hannity," and Lord wrote a column in the American Spectator Thursday castigating the group as "anti-free speech bigots who, in typical fascist style, make it their mission to shut down speech they don't like."
It was Lord's second column in as many days on the subject. In the first installment, he compared MMFA to the propaganda machines in Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy.
When Carusone responded to Lord on Twitter Thursday to point out his name was misspelled in the headline of Lord's column, Lord responded, "Sieg Heil!"

Donald Trump (R-Crooked) on Thursday thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for ordering the United States to slash its diplomatic staff in Russia, remarks likely to rekindle criticism of Trump's kid-gloves handling of Putin.
Breaking nearly two weeks of silence on Putin's July 30 order cutting U.S. embassy and consulate staff by nearly two thirds, Trump said: "I'm very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll."
Trump said "there's no real reason for them to go back" and "we're going to save a lot of money," in response to Putin's Cold War-style move, differing from the reactions of other presidents in similar circumstances in the past.
It also clashes with a State Department official having called Moscow's order "a regrettable and uncalled-for act."
On Thursday, the State Department had no immediate reaction to the comments Trump made to reporters while on vacation at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
An emerging debate about whether elected officials violate people's free speech rights by blocking them on social media is spreading across the U.S. as groups sue or warn politicians to stop the practice.
The American Civil Liberties Union this week sued Maine Gov. Paul LePage and sent warning letters to Utah's congressional delegation. It followed recent lawsuits against the governors of Maryland and Kentucky and Donald Trump (Corrupt).
Trump's frequent and often unorthodox use of Twitter and allegations he blocks people with dissenting views has raised questions about what elected officials can and cannot do on their official social media pages.
Politicians at all levels increasingly embrace social media to discuss government business, sometimes at the expense of traditional town halls or in-person meetings.
Most of the officials targeted so far - all Republicans - say they are not violating free speech but policing social media pages to get rid of people who post hateful, violent, obscene or abusive messages.

China has sent an "unbreakable" code from a satellite to the Earth, marking the first time space-to-ground quantum key distribution technology has been realized, state media said on Thursday.
China launched the world's first quantum satellite last August, to help establish "hack proof" communications, a development the Pentagon has called a "notable advance".
The official Xinhua news agency said the latest experiment was published in the journal Nature on Thursday, where reviewers called it a "milestone".
The satellite sent quantum keys to ground stations in China between 645 km (400 miles) and 1,200 km (745 miles) away at a transmission rate up to 20 orders of magnitude more efficient than an optical fiber, Xinhua cited Pan Jianwei, lead scientist on the experiment from the state-run Chinese Academy of Sciences, as saying.
Any attempt to eavesdrop on the quantum channel would introduce detectable disturbances to the system, Pan said.
Engravings on a human bone from a prehistoric archaeological site in a cave in southern England shows that human cannibals ate their prey and then performed ritualistic burials with the remains, scientists said on Wednesday.
The forearm bone appears to have been disarticulated, filleted, chewed, and then engraved with a zig-zag design before being broken to extract bone marrow, said scientists from Britain's Natural History Museum who conducted the analysis.
The finding, published in the journal PLOS ONE, adds to previous studies of bones from the site, called Gough's Cave, thought to be from Britain's Palaeolithic period - the early Stone Age.
Those studies confirmed human cannibalistic behavior and showed some remains had been kept and modified, making human skulls into bowls, or "skull cups".
The zig-zag cuts are undoubtedly engraving marks, the scientists said, and had no utilitarian purpose but were purely artistic or symbolic.
