"You'll Never Get Rich", a sitcom revolving around Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko of the United States Army, won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series. What comic actor portrayed Ernie Bilko?
The Phil Silvers Show, originally titled You'll Never Get Rich, is a sitcom which ran on CBS from 1955 to 1959. A pilot called "Audition Show" was made in 1955, but never broadcast. 143 other episodes were broadcast - all half-an-hour long except for a 1959 one-hour live special. The series starred Phil Silvers as Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko of the United States Army.
The series was created and largely written by Nat Hiken, and won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series.
The series was originally set in Fort Baxter, a sleepy, unremarkable U.S. Army post in the fictional town of Roseville, Kansas, and centered on the soldiers of the Fort Baxter motor pool under Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko. However, Bilko and his men seemed to spend very little time actually performing their duties-Bilko in particular spent most of his time trying to wheedle money through various get-rich-quick scams and promotions, or to find ways to get others to do his work for him.
Bilko's right-hand men were Cpl. Rocco Barbella (Harvey Lembeck) and Cpl. Steve Henshaw (Allan Melvin), and his long-suffering superior was Col. John T. Hall (Paul Ford). The large supporting cast included Herbie Faye (a former burlesque crony of Silvers) as Pvt. Sam Fender, Maurice Gosfield as Pvt. Duane Doberman, Joe E. Ross as camp cook Sgt. Rupert Ritzik, Beatrice Pons as loud-mouthed Mrs. Ritzik, Billy Sands as Pvt. Dino Paparelli, Jimmy Little as Sgt. Francis Grover, and Mickey Freeman as diminutive Pvt. Fielding Zimmerman. Other characters included Jack Healy as the tough-talking Pvt. Mullen, Ned Glass as quartermaster Sgt. Andy Pendleton, and former boxer Walter Cartier as botany fiend Pvt. Claude Dillingham. Some episodes gave Bilko a romantic interest, Elisabeth Fraser as Sgt. Joan Hogan. A notable member of the platoon was Terry Carter as African-American Pvt Sugarman, at a time when US society was still largely segregated.

The "King of Chutzpah" Phil Silvers. At first the 1955-1959 Sgt. Bilko TV series was titled "You'll Never Get Rich," then changed to the "Phil Silvers Show." The unlikely premise of the show was Bilko, instead of attending to his military duties, was involved in various underhanded scams and get rich quick schemes that occupied most of his time, but caused no end of trouble for Bilko's long suffering commander and the hapless Privates who Bilko either victimized or recruited to help him. Silvers was able to professionally play versions of a fast talking con man for the rest of his career, which slowed after a 1972 stroke that mostly limited Silvers to short roles

My Dad, who was an Army officer, loved Sgt. Bilko, but my dear Mom and I didn't care for the show at all. I always found the show to be a good time for me to get busy with my homework, or to read a book or something. I'm sure there were a hell of a lot of folks who got that kind of humor, but I was not among them.
What was the question again? Oh, yeah, it was Phil Silvers who portrayed that crazy Sgt. Bilko.

So far so good on beating cancer for now. I'm doing fine. At the end of the month I'll be 16 months into an 8 month mean lifespan. And yesterday I went on a 7 mile hike and managed to keep up with the hiking group I was with. So, doing something right.
Still waiting for future test results and should see things headed in the right direction. I can say that it's not likely that anything dire happens in the short term so that means that I should have time to make several more attempts at this. So even if it doesn't work the first time there are a lot of variations to try. So if there's bad news it will help me pick the next radiation target.
I have written a "how to" guide for oncologists to perform the treatment that I got. I'm convinced that I'm definitely onto something and whether it works for me or not isn't the definitive test. I know if other people tried this that it would work for some of them, and if they improve it that it will work for a lot of them.
The guide is quite detailed and any doctor reading this can understand the procedure at every level. I also go into detail as to how it works, how I figured it out, and variations and improvements that could be tried to enhance it. I also introduce new ways to look at the problem. There is a lot of room for improvement and I think that doctors reading it will see what I'm talking about and want to build on it. And it's written so that if you're not a doctor you can still follow it. It also has a personal story revealing that I'm the class clown of cancer support group. I give great interviews and I look pretty hot in a lab coat.
So, feel free to read this and see what I'm talking about. But if any of you want to help then pass this around to both doctors and cancer patients. I need some media coverage. I'm looking for as many eyeballs as possible to read these ideas. Even if this isn't the solution, it's definitely on the right track. After all, I did hike 7 miles yesterday. And this hiking group wasn't moving slow. So if this isn't working then, why am I still here?
I also see curing cancer as more of an engineering problem that a medical problem. So if you are good at solving problems and most of what you know about medicine was watching the Dr. House MD TV show, then you're at the level I was at when I started. So anyone can jump in and be part of the solution.

Sally Field has weighed in on Samantha Bee calling Ivanka Trump a "feckless c**t" on her show "Full Frontal With Samantha Bee" on Wednesday night.
The 71-year-old tweeted on Thursday afternoon that Bee was wrong to call the first daughter a "cunt."
"Cunts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest," Field wrote.
The controversy surrounding Bee's comments led to a sponsor withdrawing from her show, many people on social media lambasting her, and even the White House asking that TBS and Time Warner discipline her.
Bee has since apologized, saying in a statement to HuffPost: "I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."
The nonprofit behind Sesame Street has officially lost its lawsuit against the creators of Melissa McCarthy's raunchy puppet comedy The Happytime Murders.
A New York Judge ruled on Wednesday that distributor STX Productions can continue to use the tagline, "No sesame. All street," to promote the R-rated flick despite Sesame Workshop's claim that the marketing campaign creates public confusion about Sesame Street's wholesome brand.
U.S. District Judge Vernon Broderick said in his ruling that the slogan is actually a "humorous, pithy way" to distinguish Happytime Murders from the beloved children's show, according to New York Daily News.
For their part, the makers of Happytime-which was directed by Brian Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim Henson-were quick to make their admiration for Sesame Street known via a statement attributed to puppet lawyer Fred, Esq.
"We fluffing love Sesame Street and we're obviously very pleased that the ruling reinforced what STX's intention was from the very beginning-to honor the heritage of The Jim Henson Company's previous award-winning creations while drawing a clear distinction between any Muppets or Sesame Street characters and the new world Brian Henson and team created," it read.
Matt LeBlanc is leaving the BBC's flagship automotive show "Top Gear," BBC Studios confirmed Thursday.
LeBlanc will depart after the next season - his fourth - airs later this year, BBC Studios said. The former "Friends" star said that the time and travel commitments for the show fueled his decision to leave but that he would "forever be a 'Top Gear' fan."
"My experience on 'Top Gear' has been great fun," LeBlanc said in a statement. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the whole team. However, the time commitment and extensive travel required takes me away from my family and friends more than I'm comfortable with. It's unfortunate, but for these reasons I will not be continuing my involvement with the show."
LeBlanc, who can currently be seen in "Episodes," joined the British show as co-host in 2016 alongside Chris Evans, following the departure of longtime hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. Evans left the re-booted show after one season following criticism of the chemistry between the hosts and falling ratings, leaving LeBlanc to lead the presenting team. Ratings have continued to fall off drastically from the numbers recorded by Clarkson's trio.
"Top Gear" is one of the BBC's most popular brands, airing in more than 200 territories around the world. It has scored with younger viewers, with the most recent season attracting six times the average number of 18-to-34-year-olds to BBC Two.
Serbian archaeologists at the site of the ancient Roman city of Viminacium have found an intact sarcophagus with two skeletons bedecked with gold and silver adornments.
Ilija Mikic, an anthropologist at the site, said the skeletons were of a tall, middle-aged man and a slim younger woman.
In addition to three delicate glass perfume bottles, the woman had golden earrings, a necklace, a silver mirror and several expensive hair pins, while a silver belt buckle and remains of shoes were found lying around the man.
"According to grave goods ... we can conclude that these two people surely belonged to a higher social class," Mikic said.
The Viminacium site, near the town of Kostolac, around 70 km east of Belgrade, was a military camp and the capital of the Roman province of Moesia Superior, dating back to the 1st century AD. It had a hippodrome, fortifications, a forum, palace, temples, amphitheatre, aqueducts, baths and workshops.
The attorney for former 49ers Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid is hinting that a witness in their collusion case can come forward with concrete evidence of a conspiracy to keep them out of the league for kneeling during the national anthem.
Lawyer Mark Geragos said on CNN Wednesday night that the NFL owners are conspiring against his clients to appease President Trump, and he suggested that more evidence will surface soon.
"I would stay tuned because this case is about to take a dramatic turn," he said.
Asked what he means by that, Geragos wouldn't offer specifics other than a suggestion that "somebody has decided they were going to dime out the NFL for what they were doing."
That may mean a witness can come forward who will contradict the stated position of the NFL, which is that each team decides for itself whether a player can help that team, and that if Kaepernick and Reid aren't on a roster, it's because teams have individually decided they can't help. If Geragos can produce a witness from the league office, or a team's coaching staff or personnel department, who can testify that the football people do, in fact, think Kaepernick and Reid can contribute, but that owners and the league office have decided that Kaepernick and Reid are not to see the field, that would go a long way toward making the players' case.
Donald Trump's administration has plans to crack down on certain visas issued to Chinese citizens.
The State Department announced the changes, to go into effect on 11 June, are an attempt to curtail alleged theft of US intellectual property.
US consular officers can begin limiting the length of visas as opposed to issuing them for the maximum length as has been done. Application procedures will not change, however.
Chinese graduate students will specifically be limited to one-year visas if they are studying in US for robotics, aviation, and other high-tech manufacturing fields. These are the same fields China noted were priorities as part of its "Made in China" 2025 manufacturing plan.
Researchers will also face more restrictions in the form of needing approval from several US agencies if the companies are on a list of entities requiring higher scrutiny, maintained by the Department of Commerce. Those applications could take months to approve, one official told the Associated Press.
Scientists said Wednesday they had tracked down the oldest known lizard, a tiny creature that lived about 240 million years ago when Earth had a single continent and dinosaurs were brand new.
Scans of the fossilised skeleton of Megachirella revealed the chameleon-sized reptile was an ancestor of today's lizards and snakes, which belong to a group called squamates, an international team wrote in the science journal Nature.
This finding dragged the group back in time by 75 million years, and means that "lizards inhabited the planet since at least 240 million years ago," study co-author Tiago Simoes of the University of Alberta in Canada told AFP.
That, in turn, suggested that squamates had already split from other ancient reptiles before the Permian/Triassic mass extinction some 252 million years ago, and survived it.
Megachirella, discovered some 20 years ago buried in compacted sand and clay layers in the Dolomites mountain range in northeast Italy, was initially misclassified as a close lizard relative.
