Steve M.: "Jimmy Kimmel Really Changed A Lot Of Minds In The Fox Audience (No, He Didn't)" (Crooks and Liars)
New York magazine's Margaret Hartmann responded to this with a post titled "Jimmy Kimmel Might Have Struck the Final Blow Against the GOP Health-Care Plan." I don't think so. I just checked out a Fox News story about Kimmel's monologue. If you think no one could fail to be moved by what Kimmel said, you don't understand conservatives. Here are some of the comments: "So some rich and famous dude has a baby born with birth defects and now everyone else has to be taxed to the max to provide universal health care?" …
Josh Marshall: TPM and The Future of Digital News Publishing (TPM)
If there's one thing I know a decent amount about it's digital news journalism and specifically the range of publishing, business and editorial factors that go into doing it. TPM has been in constant publication for almost 17 years. In that period there have been perhaps three to five different 'eras' of publication in which the methods of finding news and paying for it have altered, often dramatically.
"Where's the beef?" is a catchphrase in the United States and Canada introduced in 1984. The phrase originated as a slogan for the fast food chain Wendy's. Since then it has become an all-purpose phrase questioning the substance of an idea, event or product.

Clara Peller (August 4, 1902 - August 11, 1987), was a manicurist and American character actress who, at the age of 81, starred in the 1984 "Where's the beef?" advertising campaign for the Wendy'sfast food restaurant chain.

"Where's the beef?" is the catch phrase used in a Wendy's commercial in 1984. It was a great slogan that migrated to many other situations. Today it is trumped by a new 2017 phrase: "Here's the bullshit straight from the facial asshole of CpPDJT-ID covered in lies, since no flies will even touch it, except racists, bigots, greedy heartless billionaires, self-righteous christians, soulless republicans, con artists and gangsters all determined to destroy our nation for their own egotistic profit, glory and gain.

I was all worked up about the executive order Lumpy signed today, but Lawrence O'Donnell just made me feel better about it. The ACLU was ready to litigate, but they say that the EO is meaningless; there are LAWS that have been passed and enacted against discrimination. Those laws will continue to be enforced, and signing an EO does nothing to nullify any of the laws. They've labeled this EO "fake news."
Take that and stuff it up your orange rump. Stain!

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell received their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a special double ceremony on Thursday.
On hand to make speeches honoring the Hollywood couple were Hawn's daughter, actress Kate Hudson, as well as actress Reese Witherspoon and director Quentin Tarantino.
The couple's stars are near one another - an effort Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce tries to make for actors who work together or are romantically involved. "I always thought I'd be talking about them at a wedding or something but since a wedding doesn't seem to be in our near future -- ever -- this may be my only opportunity!" Hudson said to laughter. "Their real legacy is what they have instilled in us kids -- our tribe -- that they created that they so vehemently protect and defend, the relationship they fiercely refuse to lose sight of together, and the deep feeling of love and nurturing they reserve for the most important thing we have in this life: family. So that's what these stars represent to me."
Hawn, 71, rose to fame as part of the cast of the TV show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," and won an Academy Award for her role in 1969's "Cactus Flower." She went on to appear in films like "Sugarland Express," "Death Becomes Her" and "Private Benjamin." She stars alongside Amy Schumer in the upcoming film "Snatched," opening nationwide May 12.
Russell, 66, started acting as a child and has appeared in numerous TV shows, such as "Gilligan's Island," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "The Virginian" and "Gunsmoke." His film credits include, "Silkwood," "Escape from New York" and "Swing Shift." He stars in the upcoming film, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," opening nationwide on Friday.

While much of humanity concerns itself with saving the planet from the ravages mankind has inflicted upon it, one of the world's brightest minds is already warning that we should actually be spending our time planning our ultimate escape. Stephen Hawking - the cosmologist, author, and physicist who holds more awards and honorary titles than should even be allowed - says that we have about 100 years until Earth is a big old pile of gross, and that if we don't focus our efforts on colonizing other planets, namely Mars, humanity faces complete and total extinction.
Hawking's warning that humans should start packing their bags comes as a result of the scientist's belief that endless peril lies ahead thanks to overpopulation, climate change as a result of pollution, and even the threat of mankind building an AI or even a manmade virus capable of destroying us outright. Hawking has taken the stance that mankind is basically boned before, but his latest prediction is his most dire prediction yet.
In a new BBC documentary entitled Stephen Hawking: Expedition New Earth, the 75-year-old Hawking will attempt to prove that his theory isn't as crazy as it seems. "Professor Stephen Hawking thinks the human species will have to populate a new planet within 100 years if it is to survive," the BBC says. "With climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly precarious." The documentary will be split into two 60-minute programs and will air on BBC Two before presumably finding its way to western television.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has condemned Donald Trump (R-Crooked) for saying he would be "honoured" to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
Trump stoked controversy on Monday when he said he would meet with the supreme leader if it is "under the right circumstances".
"If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honoured to do it," Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg News. In a separate interview shortly beforehand he referred to Mr Kim as a "smart cookie" for being able to hold on to power in his country.
Albright, the first woman to become the US Secretary of State, said "honoured" was an inappropriate word to use to refer to a meeting with Mr Kim.
"A president doesn't go to a country without any preparation, and 'honoured' would definitely be the wrong way to discuss somebody who is keeping his people in poverty and starving and control," Albright said on CNN.
Less than 10 days after researchers reported the massive crack in Larsen C ice shelf in northwest Antarctica had to grown to over 175 kilometers (almost 110 miles) long, a new report out Tuesday said a new rift has branched out from the existing one. The new observations were reported by Project MIDAS, an Antarctic research organization based in the United Kingdom.
Using data from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-1 satellites, researchers found the new rift to be 15 kilometers long already. It branches out about 10 kilometers behind the tip of the bigger crack, and is headed in the direction of the ice-front. The only piece of good news, if it can be called that, is that the tip of the bigger crack, which is not 180 kilometers long, hasn't advanced since the last observation.
This is the first significant change to the rift since February of this year. Although the rift length has been static for several months, it has been steadily widening, at rates in excess of a meter per day," Professor Adrian Luckman of Swansea University and head of Project Midas, said in a statement Tuesday.
The new rift was observed using synthetic aperture radar interferometry, a method that combines data from two radars to provide information a single radar would be unable to provide. This happens because direct visual observations are difficult and inaccurate, especially in the ongoing Antarctic winter.
The Larsen C ice shelf is about 350 meters thick and is on the edge of West Antarctica, acting as a dam to the flow of glaciers that flow into the seas in the region. Now, with the large crack in it, just about 20 kilometers of ice is keeping a chunk of 5,000 square kilometers from floating away.
The owners of an American animal sanctuary have come under fire for killing all 11 of its exotic animals, despite other rescue centres offering to rehome the three tigers, three lions and five bears.
The Lion's Gate Sanctuary in Colorado said it was forced to euthanise its animals last month after it was denied permission to relocate away from a site that had repeatedly flooded.
Co-owners doctor Joan Laub and Peter Winney said in a statement they planned to build a new facility on 45 acres of empty land they owned, but were denied permission by commissioners who bowed to pressure from local residents in an "unfair" hearing.
In a statement the couple said they felt "the Elbert County Commissioners did not take... the plight of our animals seriously... [or] the safety of Elbert County residents seriously".
"As a result, 11 innocent animals paid the price."

A Fox News radio correspondent filed a lawsuit on Thursday claiming she was fired for complaining about sex discrimination, after the U.S. television network encouraged employees to report harassment amid a barrage of legal claims.
Jessica Golloher, who covers the Middle East and North Africa for Fox News Radio Network, says in the lawsuit that instead of addressing complaints, Fox is using the harassment hotline "to paint targets on the backs of employees."
In the lawsuit, filed in New York state court, Golloher says that in April she reported sex discrimination to a lawyer at the firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, which Fox retained last year to conduct an internal probe of harassment complaints.
The next day, Golloher was told she would be laid off in August due to budgetary concerns, the complaint says.
"Terminating an employee within 24 hours of utilizing the 'hotline' ... is yet another indication of (Fox's) lack of oversight and retaliatory animus for those that are brave enough to report unlawful conduct," Golloher's lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, said in a statement.
Donald Trump's (R-Corrupt) former campaign manager has resigned from the Washington influence firm he founded just after the election.
Corey Lewandowski (R-Tainted) says he was troubled by recent reports about firm-related projects that he says he had not sanctioned. Other people tied to his Avenue Strategies firm started a firm of their own and had pitched Eastern European clients with promises of access to Trump and high-ranking White House officials. Politico reported on that recently and also reported that Lewandowski's now-former partner, Barry Bennett, had inked a deal without him to lobby on behalf of Citgo.
Lewandowski, who liked to show off the views of the White House from his Washington office window, resigned Thursday, a move first reported by Bloomberg News.
Bennett said he has already shuttered the newer firm, Washington East West Political Strategies, which he said friends of his had launched without his final approval. He added that Avenue Strategies is continuing its work and that without Lewandowski "hopefully we will stop being in the news so much."
While Lewandowski had not registered as a lobbyist, Bennett has.
Joe "What Intern?" Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged, an MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo News on Thursday.
The engagement of the "Morning Joe" co-hosts was first reported by the New York Post's Page Six.
According to the report, Scarborough popped the question over the weekend during a trip to the south of France and Monaco, where the couple was celebrating Brzezinski's 50th birthday.
Scarborough and Brzezinski's romance reportedly began last year, following Brzezinski's divorce from James Hoffer, her husband of 23 years. Scarborough, a former Florida congressman, has been married twice before, most recently to Susan Waren, a former aide to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, from whom he split in 2013. (Brzezinski has two children. Scarborough has four.)
