Nathan Williams: 5 Insane Theories That Change How You See Great Works Of Art (Cracked)
We wouldn't dream of diminishing the work of any of the great masters on this list, or insist you start enjoying it less. But even great artists are just fallible human beings, which is why we can't dismiss these theories about their famous work being the result of accidents, trickery, or outright fraud.
In an episode of Seinfeld ("The Dog"), Jerry ends up "dogsitting" after a dog owner suffers a heart attack while sitting next to him on an airplane. What was the dog's name?
Ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson selling Nestle's Chocolate with two of his dummies. That's Danny O'Day on the left. What is the name of the dog on the right?
Farfel the Dog is a hound dog ventriloquist's dummy created by Jimmy Nelson. The Farfel character is best known for television commercials for Nestlé's Quik which ran from 1953 to 1965.
Beginning in 1955, Farfel sang the last word of the Nestlé's jingle, after the first two lines sung by Nelson's human dummy Danny O'Day:
Danny: "N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestlé's makes the very best...
Farfel: Choc'-late
At the end, Farfel's mouth would close with a distinctive clap, uncharacteristic of proper ventriloquist's technique. The sound was the result of Nelson's nervousness at his audition for the Nestlé executives; his hands sweated, resulting in his finger slipping off of the mouth control. The executives liked the effect so much, they insisted Nelson keep it in. The commercials ran for ten years from 1955 to 1965. Farfel made a brief comeback in the mid-1990s for a Nestlé's candy Christmas promo, with a send-in offer for a stuffed Farfel doll.

Oh, who does not love puppets? Especially adorable doggie
puppets like Farfel, who shilled for companies that sold
sugary food supplements to children? Yes, the beginning of
the end, polluting the purity of milk with that damn
delicious chocolaty powdered mixture from hell that addicted
children of all ages to a lifetime of hedonistic pursuit of
flavor enhancement, which resulted in a populous of portly
pubescent putzes. Oh my god, I think I've been possessed by
the ghost of Spiro Agnew! HELP ME!
P.S. DJ Useo, you and your brother were totally cute kids!
Jim from CA, retired to ID, responded:
Farfel the dog
DJ Useo responded:
Farfel the dog. When I was in grade school, I got a Danny O'Daye
venriloquist puppet that I loved. I practiced & got so good at ventriloquism that
they used to let me entertain the younger classes. True story.
Dale of Diamond Springs, Norhotcali replied:
Farfel the Dog, you Peckerwoods! Here are some more Dummies, you Peckerwoods! And a Nyquil Margarita, Peckerwoods.
For Lewd and Lovingly Lecherous Lois: And let's hear it for the Ants!

His name is Farfel. Another one I know because I'm old. Also I used to do ventriloquism in my youth. I won a few talent shows and was even on TV once when I was in the 6th grade. I could never understand why Jimmy named Farfel, Farfel. It's so hard to say without moving your lips. Try it, you'll see.
Annnnyway, I was pretty good. I had a Jerry Mahoney dummy, that I named, .......wait for it,....... Jerry. I wanted a Charley McCarthy doll until I actually saw Edgar Bergen live on TV. I was totally disappointed, watching Bergen's lips move. He was good at distracting you, but his lips were,(as my father put it) flapping like a whippoorwill's ass in a wind storm. I really wasn't sure what that meant, but Bergen's lips were moving. He was much better suited for radio than TV. Loved him on the radio. As for Danny O'Day and Farfel, I only saw them on Nestlé's commercials. Today I don't buy anything from Nestle, nothing.
Annnnnnyway, I've been thinking of taking up the art again to entertain and amaze my grandchildren. I don't think it would be much trouble to pick it back up, I was self-taught in the beginning.
This is the very dummy I had, cardboard suitcase and all. He didn't come with shoes but my mother picked up shoes for him somewhere. He didn't look right without shoes.
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are

What's the best way to keep a private matter out of public speculation? Sofia Vergara's ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb, seems to think writing an op-ed for The New York Times is the way to go.
"I wanted to keep this private, but recently the story broke to the world," Loeb wrote in a piece titled "Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live."
As Loeb waxes poetic in his editorial about his desire to become a father, equating his idea of family to that of a Norman Rockwell painting, he insists that the embryos should be treated like life because they were created with that intention.
Multiple outlets and Twitter users have condemned the Times for providing Loeb with an outlet to shame and pressure Vergara into handing over the embryos. Loeb's insistence on unfreezing the embryos could be construed as reproductive coercion, a practice the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology calls "behavior intended to maintain power and control in a relationship."

The Vatican under Pope Francis gave out aid worth 1.5 million euros ($1.6 million) in 2014, an increase of 25 percent over the previous year, an official said on Thursday.
Refugees, prisoners, the homeless, the sick and the elderly benefitted from the aid that charities received from the Vatican office responsible for taking care of the poorest.
Individuals also received direct Vatican aid -- 8,000 people benefited from it in 2014 -- along with religious communities which used it for basic needs or building renovation work.
The donations are generally modest, because the Vatican hopes to reach as many people as possible, explained Bishop Diego Giovanni Ravelli, chief of staff to Polish Archbishop Konrad Krajewski who heads up the charity office.
A lab worker in Boston became infected with a virus similar to smallpox after he accidentally stuck himself with a needle that was contaminated with the virus, according to a new report of the case.
But the case is noteworthy because the worker developed the infection despite having recently been vaccinated against the virus, which was intended to protect him in case of exactly such an accident.
In November 2013, the 27-year-old lab worker was preforming an experiment that required him to inject mice with the vaccinia virus - which is the virus in the smallpox vaccine. (The vaccinia virus is similar to smallpox, but doesn't actually cause the disease.) While putting a cap back on the needle he was using, he accidentally stuck the needle into his left thumb.
About 10 months before his injury, the man had received the smallpox vaccine because his job required him to work with the vaccinia virus. At that time, the man appeared to have a proper reaction to the vaccine - he developed a small white lesion at the vaccination site - which is thought to indicate a successful immune response to the vaccine. (The general public is no longer vaccinated against smallpox, since the disease has been eradicated worldwide .)
The man appears to be the first person to develop a vaccinia virus infection from a lab accident, even though he was recently vaccinated against the disease, the researchers said. It's not clear why the man developed an infection despite being vaccinated, but the researchers noted that the level of immune response needed to protect against the vaccinia virus is not known.
The group representing Japan's zoos and aquariums said Thursday it was baffled by its exclusion from a global body over the way its members catch dolphins.
The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) last week voted to suspend the Japanese chapter (JAZA) saying it had refused to stop taking dolphins caught in the controversial drive fishery in Taiji.
The town in southwestern Japan came to worldwide attention after the Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove" showed pods of the animals forced into a bay and then butchered with knives, in a mass-killing that turned the water red with blood.
WAZA "requires all members to adhere to policies that prohibit participating in cruel and non-selective methods of taking animals from the wild," the organisation said last week, adding JAZA refused a proposed two-year moratorium on using the Taiji hunt.
Fallen rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight will be rooting for Floyd Mayweather from behind bars this weekend -- hoping his old friend can help pay his $10 million bail bill, his lawyer said Thursday.
Speaking shortly after his latest court hearing, attorney Matthew Fletcher said Knight -- who denies murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run charges -- is counting on the unbeaten Mayweather to beat Filipino great Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
"I think we're going to have very good luck," Fletcher told reporters. "Hopefully next week... after Floyd Mayweather wins again, I think he's going to come riding to the rescue."
Fletcher said Mayweather "and Suge are very close friends -- have known each other for a while. Obviously he's been busy, they've both been busy, but I think we will be able to make bail."
The US boxer, who has a perfect 47-0 ring record and is the highest-paid sportsman on the planet, said this week he expects a payday of $200 million for this fight alone.

A demonstration by Israeli Jews of Ethiopian origin against police brutality turned violent on Thursday, with police using water canon to keep angry crowds away from the prime minister's residence.
At least 13 people were injured and two police officers and five protesters were taken to hospital, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
Police fired bursts of foul smelling water from a water canon and used stun grenades to disperse the demonstrators, who threw stones and bottles at scores of police officers on hand.
The demonstration, that began as a peaceful march near national police headquarters in East Jerusalem, was called after a video clip emerged showing two police officers assaulting an Ethiopian army conscript and arresting him.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman announced a new heir and made his son second in line to rule Wednesday, concentrating power in his inner circle as the kingdom faces enormous regional challenges.
Since acceding to the throne following the death of King Abdullah in January, Salman, 79, has been steadily bringing loyalists into the deeply conservative kingdom's upper reaches of power.
Salman named as the new crown prince his nephew Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, 55, the powerful interior minister who a decade ago led a crackdown on Al-Qaeda.
Prince Mohammed replaced Prince Moqren bin Abdul Aziz bin Saud, 69, as crown prince. Moqren, the last son of the kingdom's founder Abdul Aziz bin Saud in line for the throne, pledged allegiance to his replacement and to the new deputy crown prince at a palace in Riyadh.
It was the first time a Saudi crown prince was relieved of duty.
