The Flintstones is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera. The series takes place in a romanticized Stone Age setting and follows the activities of the titular family, the Flintstones, and their next-door neighbors, the Rubbles (who are also their best friends). It was originally broadcast on ABC from September 30, 1960, until April 1, 1966, as the first animated series to hold a prime time slot.
The continuing popularity of The Flintstones rested heavily on its juxtaposition of modern everyday concerns in the Stone Age setting. The Flintstones was the most financially successful and longest-running network animated television series for three decades, until The Simpsons debuted in late 1989.

With a sparing philosophy toward animation, The Flintsones was one of
couple of prime time offerings from Hanna Barbera. (Top Cat and The
Jetsons also come to mind).
Dave responded:
The Flintstones. I was just a tyke when the show premiered, but didn't watch it on ABC because may parents' TV didn't receive an ABC channel until the early '70s. It must have been syndicated and picked up by the nearby CBS and NBC stations for the non-network periods. The characters of The Flintstones so resembled Jackie Gleeson's TV series The Honeymooners, that Gleeson investigated suing ABC for royalties, but was advised that ABC would probably pull the series rather than pay up. Gleeson let the theft of his intellectual property pass because he didn't want to be blamed for cancelling the show so popular with children. Besides, he didn't need the money.

It would certainly be better than the current animated drek. Here's the Flagstones, the demo version of the original.

I grew riding bikes, whether to escape pesky younger siblings, buy a Sunday paper, or commute in South Jersey to work, family, friends, etc. I've been buzzed by stinky busses in Camden, cut off and sworn at by South Jersey drivers (so ago!), and fought to maintain my right to ride a bike where cars go, from the late 60s until present day. I often thought how much more fun cycling in South Jersey could be if the streets were closed to cars. Bless Mayor Schaff for this. We're close enough to Oakland to take advantage of the car-free streets, except for SiP. I hope other cities take a hard look at traffic and opening up streets to other than cars.
• Sir Thomas Beecham, the world-class conductor of classical music, once was staying at a rented house when he was disturbed by the noise made by a local boys' band. Sir Thomas suggested that the boys practice further away, and one of the boys told him, "You don't appreciate good music."
• Music critic Warren Zanes' son was greedy for mother's milk after he was born; in fact, Mr. and Mrs. Zanes referred to him as "The Milk Pig." They even speculated for a while that their son would devour his mother the same way that many people devour a chicken dinner - they start with the breast.
• Poly Styrene, the pseudonym of Marian Elliot-Said, was a well-known British female punk rocker who started writing protest songs when she was only five years old. She explains, "Our dinner lady used to make me eat meat and I didn't want to so I wrote a song about it."
Christmas
• Mark Evanier, a blogger at < newsfromme.com , ate frequently at the Farmers Market in Los Angeles. One day near Christmas, as a group of four young people were strolling around and singing carols, he noticed Mel Tormé, aka the Velvet Fog, sitting at a table eating an English muffin, drinking coffee, and reading The New York Times. Therefore, he motioned the carolers to come to him and told them that Mel Tormé was sitting at the nearby table. Because they were so young, they didn't knew who Mel Tormé was, so he explained that Mr. Tormé was a co-writer of "The Christmas Song," which begins with "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire …." After hearing this, the carolers approached Mr. Tormé's table and started to sing "The Christmas Song." With a big smile, Mr. Tormé got up to sing a few lines near the end of the song. The head of the carolers had a worried expression on his face as he wondered whether this short, fat, elderly man could sing, but of course the Velvet Fog sang perfectly. Everyone sang the last line of the song together, and nearby auditors broke into spontaneous applause. The leader of the carolers told Mr. Tormé, "You know, you're not a bad singer." Of course, Mr. Tormé realized that the leader of the carolers had little idea who he was, so he said, "Well, I've actually made a few records in my day...." "Really," the leader of the carolers said. "How many?" Mr. Tormé replied, "Ninety."
• In 1993, around Christmas, country music superstar Garth Brooks saw a man and woman carrying their one-year-old daughter and some bags of groceries. He gave them a ride to their home, during which he learned that the young couple's car had broken down, and they could not afford to have it fixed. Mr. Brooks returned in an hour to give them the keys to a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. (He gave them the car, too.) The woman thought she recognized him and asked if he was Garth Brooks, but Mr. Brooks said only that he was a fan of the popular country singer.
Clothing
• Atomic Records, an independent record store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, gave away lots of free T-shirts to band members. Rich Menning, owner of Atomic Records, says, "In the early days, we'd give them away like candy just for the thrill of maybe seeing them in a photo later on." Giving the T-shirts away did result in a few thrills. Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins wore one for the artwork of their compilation album Judas Iscariot. A member of Teenage Fanclub wore one for the artwork of their "Norman 3" single. Dave Abbruzzese of Pearl Jam wore one while performing on Saturday Night Live. Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick wore one for their encore at a concert on Milwaukee's lakefront. Mr. Menning, however, admits, "I've always figured the wearing of the Atomic t-shirt thing was more a matter of hygiene for touring bands and not so much a show of love. … I figured the bands only wore them because it meant they could go one more day without having to stop and do their laundry." Unfortunately, Atomic Records closed in 2009.

The Rolling Stones have released the brand-new song "Living in a Ghost Town" to tide fans over until they're able to reschedule the upcoming leg of their No Filter tour.
It's their first original composition since "Doom and Gloom" and "One More Shot" came out on their 2012 compilation album GRRR!, although they did put out the blues cover collection Blues & Lonesome in 2016.
In a new interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Jagger said he wrote the song with Keith Richards over a year ago. "It wasn't written for now, but it was just one of those odd things," he said. "It was written about being in a place which was full of life but is now bereft of life so to speak…I was just jamming on the guitar and wrote it really quickly in like 10 minutes."
He changed some of the lyrics to reflect the times. "Keith Richards and I both had the idea that we should release it," he said. "But I said, 'Well I've got to rewrite it.' Some of it is not going to work and some of it was a bit weird and a bit too dark. So I slightly rewrote it. I didn't have to rewrite very much, to be honest. It's very much how I originally did it."
Saturday Night Live took to Twitter to announce that they will have their second "At Home" version of the late-night comedy sketch show institution on April 25 as the nation stays under quarantine.
A video released on Twitter that simply said "We're back this Saturday #SNLAtHome" featured all the cast members trying to navigate through technical difficulties on their computer.
The first Saturday Night Live at Home aired on April 11 with new material produced remotely by SNL cast, crew as well as a special guest appearance by Tom Hanks and a performance by Chris Martin. It drew a 4.6 Live+Same Day household rating in the 44 local metered markets and a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with local people meters. That is despite the fact that NBC did not announce until several hours before the telecast that it will air live on the West Coast as has been the case for SNL's regular episodes in the past couple of seasons.
The cast of NBC's beloved comedy Parks and Recreation is returning to Pawnee, Indiana, for a one-time special amid the coronavirus pandemic. The half-hour scripted special to benefit Feeding America's COVID-19 Response Fund is set to air Thursday, April 30 at 8:30 pm ET/PT.
All of the original characters from the series will return in the Universal TV-produced special, played by original cast members Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O'Heir, and Retta. Several guest stars from the Pawnee universe may pop in as well.
The story comes from the events of the day - Pawnee's most dedicated civil servant, Leslie Knope (Poehler), is determined to stay connected to her friends in a time of social distancing.
The special comes five years after viewers said farewell to the iconic comedy series.
Jeff Dunham has done a lot of voices over the years, but today the superstar ventriloquist is in the role of plaintiff to pull the plug on unauthorized use of his name and characters to sell coronavirus protective gear and other merchandise.
"This case is simple and the facts are indisputable: Defendants are marketing, advertising, promoting, manufacturing, selling, and profiting off of consumer products, including COVID-19 face masks and t-shirts, that clearly incorporate and exploit the world-famous ventriloquism characters that Plaintiff Jeff Dunham spent years to develop, which are protected by registered copyrights and trademarks owned by the Plaintiff, andwhich contain protectable trade dress," says the multi-million copyright infringement complaint filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court against Ooshirts, Ince and its owner Raymond Lei (READ IT HERE).
Dunham is seeking "statutory damages of no less than $150,000 per registered copyright and no less than $2 Million per registered trademark" plus $10 million in "general and special damages" and all the profits from the offenders.
"To add insult to injury, in order to attract consumers to their websites and help sell their counterfeit products, Defendants have exploited the name, photograph, image and/or likeness of Jeff Dunham himself, which has caused significant consumer confusion and led fans of the Plaintiff to ask him whether he was improperly trying to profit off of the COVID-19 pandemic by selling these COVID-19 products," the multi-claim filing by Hollywood heavyweight lawyer Marty Singer for Dunham adds. "This confusion has caused, and continues to cause, great harm to Plaintiff's reputation and brand," the 11-claim jury trial seeking suit proclaims.
Former vice-president Joe Biden has returned a donation from Louis CK.
Mr CK's $2,800 donation was not welcome by the Democratic hopeful, with a campaign spokesman saying it has since been refunded and would be reflected in the next report filed to the Federal Election Commission in May.
According to documents filed with the commission, the comedian donated to Mr Biden on 4 March, the day after the ex-vice president won more than a dozen states in Super Tuesday primaries on his way to securing the nomination.
The career of Mr CK, real name Louis Szekely, was brought to a halt in 2017 after The New York Times published sexual misconduct allegations from five women dating back to the late 1990s and early 2000s. Mr CK expressed remorse for his actions, saying he "tried to learn from them. And run from them. Now I'm aware of the extent of the impact of my actions".
Republican leaders have spent months promoting the myth that red low-tax states are subsidizing blue high-tax states because of the deduction for state and local taxes.
An Associated Press Fact Check finds it's actually the other way around. High-tax, traditionally Democratic states (blue), subsidize low-tax, traditionally Republican states (red) - in a big way.
In fact, most high-tax states send more money to Washington than they get back in federal spending. Most low-tax states make a profit from the federal government's system of taxing and spending.
Mississippi received $2.13 for every tax dollar the state sent to Washington in 2015, according to the Rockefeller study. West Virginia received $2.07, Kentucky got $1.90 and South Carolina got $1.71.
Meanwhile, New Jersey received 74 cents in federal spending for tax every dollar the state sent to Washington. New York received 81 cents, Connecticut received 82 cents and Massachusetts received 83 cents.
Frontline health workers and patients in France may be given nicotine patches after studies found that four times fewer smokers contracted Covid-19 than non-smokers.
It may sound counterintuitive that people who puff on Gauloises are less likely to catch a virus that can cause deadly attacks on the lungs. However, that was the statistical outcome of an in-depth study conducted by the Pasteur Institute, a leading French research centre into the disease.
The institute tested almost 700 teachers and pupils of a school in Crépy-en-Valois in one of the hardest-hit areas in France, as well as their families. The "highly accurate" tests found that only 7.2 per cent of smokers from among the adults tested were infected while four times as many non-smokers, some 28 per cent, were infected.
Arnaud Fontanet, an epidemiologist at the institute, warned that they were not encouraging people to take up smoking, remarking that those smokers who do catch the virus "risk suffering more complications" than others. Scientists suggested it could be the nicotine in cigarettes that was behind the surprising results regarding infection, although more research is needed.
The results appear to tally with another study by the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, which questioned 480 patients who tested positive for the virus.
Have you ever looked up at the moon lighting up the night sky and wanted to know about its cratered surface? Well, now you can take a closer look at its geology because The United States Geological Survey (USGS) just released the most comprehensive geological map of the moon ever created.
For the first time ever, scientists have mapped out the entire surface of the moon. In collaboration with NASA and the Lunar Planetary Institute, scientists from the USGS Astrogeology Science Center created the "Unified Geologic Map of the Moon." The definitive blueprint of the lunar surface, it will serve as an invaluable reference for future human missions to the moon and additional lunar science. But it's not just for professional scientists: The digital map is available online so people outside the scientific community can explore the moon's surface. In other words, you can check out the same blueprint that'll help NASA plan for future missions to the moon.
Scientists created the 1:5,000,000-scale geologic map using information from recent satellite trips to the moon and six regional maps from the Apollo era. Using new and old data, the researchers created unified descriptions of the moon's rock layers. With bright colors, the map charts the moon's surface features and time periods. So you can see where geological features like craters and plateaus are located and when they formed.
